Isles' Reinhart Wins WHL Championship Series MVP

News: Griffin Reinhart was named MVP of the WHL Championship Series, according to the Islanders' official site.
Analysis: The superbly talented Griffin Reinhart was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft and could be up with the Islanders as soon as next season. The two-way defender tallied a disappointing 21 points in 45 games during the regular season, but stepped it up with 13 points in 21 playoff games.

Isles Send Reinhart Back To Juniors

News: The Islanders sent Griffin Reinhart back to WHL Edmonton on Wednesday, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Griffin Reinhart was eligible to return to the WHL as long as he didn't play more than nine games with the Islanders, so he was at least expected to get look for a few games. It's surprising that the Isles would send down the fourth overall pick from the 2012 draft without even putting him in the lineup for a game first, but they did. Either way, fantasy owners will need to wait another year before they get to see what Reinhart can do at the NHL level.

Reinhart To Open Season With Islanders

News: Griffin Reinhart has earned a spot with the Islanders, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Griffin Reinhart can still be sent down to junior if he doesn't play more than nine games, so this is more than likely just a tryout unless he gives the Isles no choice but to keep him. The team is short a defenseman right now, as Travis Hamonic is out with a concussion, so Reinhart could just be insurance in case Hamonic is unable to go in the opener Friday.

Isles' Reinhart Turning Heads

News: Griffin Reinhart has been turning heads in training camp, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: What once seemed like a foregone conclusion at the beginning of camp, that Griffin Reinhart would be sent back to his junior team, now is up in the air. Problem for Reinhart is the Islanders are loaded with bottom pair d-men who have NHL contracts, so he might have to wait until one or two go down with injuries before getting his chance to play.

Isles' Reinhart Not Expected To Make Team

News: Griffin Reinhart is not expected to make the team out of training camp, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Griffin Reinhart is caught in a numbers game. The Islanders have seven d-men under contract and unless a few of them get hurt, Reinhart would seem to be ticketed once again to begin the season in junior as he can't even play for AHL/ECHL until he reaches the age of 20.

Isles' Reinhart Sent Down To Junior

News: Griffin Reinhart was sent down to Junior by the Islanders on Thursday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Even though the Isles have more holes on defense than a fridge full of Swiss cheese, they aren't going to rush their top pick in the 12 draft. Like Ryan Strome also though, there really is no reason to start his entry level contract in a shortened season with the club not close to being a cup contender.

Reinhart To Report To Camp With The Islanders

News: Griffin Reinhart will attend training camp with the Islanders, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: No matter how good a camp Griffin Reinhart has, it is unlikely that he would start the season with the Islanders. That could change however with a great camp and if Lubomir Visnovsky doesn't report and Travis Hamonic doesn't get cleared after suffering a concussion during the lockout.
