Bruins' Subban Yanked In Debut

News: Malcolm Subban's NHL debut didn't go as planned Friday. The 21-year-old was yanked after giving up three goals on six shots in a loss to the Blues.
Analysis: A rough night for Malcolm Subban, who re-entered the game later on after Tuukka Rask struggled in relief duty. At only 21-years of age, Subban has a bright future in front of him, so don't worry too much. It was fairly surprising the youngster started against the surging Blues, as it would've made more sense if he had made his NHL debut the night prior against the lowly Oilers. He's likely some time away from making a fantasy impact, but keep your eyes peeled.

Bruins' Subban Reassigned To AHL Providence

News: Malcolm Subban was reassigned to AHL Providence on Saturday, and he will likely stay there for a while, according to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban struggled in his NHL debut, giving up three goals to the Blues on just six shots, before getting pulled in the second period. He'll head back to the AHL, while Niklas Svedberg will work behind Tuukka Rask.

Bruins Confirm Subban For Friday's Game

News: Coach Claude Julien confirmed Malcolm Subban would make his NHL debut Friday against the Blues.
Analysis: As had been expected following his Feb. 16 promotion, Malcolm Subban will be given the opportunity to pick up a start during the Bruins' road trip, in what could amount to a showcase for a potential trade as the deadline approaches. After posting excellent numbers at AHL Providence each of the last two seasons -- including a 2.47 GAA and .920 save percentage in 24 games this season -- Subban has emerged as one of the game's top goaltending prospects. However, with Tuukka Rask locked in as the Bruins' goalie for the foreseeable future, his path to regular action with the parent club remains blocked. It will probably take a trade to another organization that lacks a franchise goaltender in order for Subban to draw much interest in season-long fantasy formats.

Bruins' Subban Could Start Friday

News: Malcolm Subban may make his NHL debut Friday in St. Louis, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban was reportedly a candidate to start Wednesday's game against Edmonton, but Tuukka Rask ended up getting the nod. While Boston won't have any back-to-backs until next weekend, it's been a while since Rask got a break.

Bruins' Subban Will Not Start Wednesday

News: Malcolm Subban will not be in net for the Bruins on Wednesday as Tuukka Rask received the nod, the Bruins Official Twitter Account reports.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban was a candidate to get the start Wednesday, but the Bruins are sticking with the struggling Rask. The rookie goalie will have to wait for another opportunity to make his NHL regular season debut.

Bruins' Subban Could Start Wednesday

News: Malcolm Subban is a candidate to start Wednesday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis: Though Coach Claude Julien didn't confirm Wednesday's starter, he acknowledged that it would be either Malcolm Subban or Tuukka Rask. Given that the Bruins face the Blues on Friday and Chicago on Sunday, Wednesday's game against the Oilers (who are last place in the Western Conference) looks like a favorable spot to for the 21-year-old Subban to make his NHL regular season debut.

Bruins' Subban Could Start Later This Week

News: Malcolm Subban could make his NHL regular season debut later this week, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Per the Bruins' official site, Malcolm Subban is expected to be recalled by the team this week, with the Globe report suggesting that the team could potentially be showcasing Subban for a possible trade. The young goalie is thus a candidate to see his first NHL regular season action later this week, with the Bruins on the road and slated to face Edmonton on Wednesday, St. Louis on Friday, and Chicago on Sunday.

Bruins Plan To Recall Subban From AHL

News: Malcolm Subban will be recalled from AHL Providence in advance of Wednesday's game at Edmonton, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Backup netminder Niklas Svedberg has played just once since Jan. 8 and gave up three goals on 10 shots in that outing, so the promotion could indicate Malcolm Subban will take over the backup job behind Tuukka Rask. Subban has spent time with the NHL club this season, but has yet to make an appearance.

Bruins Recall Subban

News: The Bruins have recalled Malcolm Subban from AHL Providence, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban, who has compiled a 10-10-3 record in 24 games for Providence, with a 2.47 goals against average and a .920 save percentage, will practice with the Bruins on Tuesday and could make his NHL regular season debut as soon as Wednesday against the Oilers. Whether he's up with the big club simply to gain some NHL game experience or to be showcased for a possible trade, Subban is no threat to overtake starter Tuukka Rask anytime soon.

Bruins Return Subban To AHL

News: The Bruins have assigned Malcolm Subban to AHL Providence, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With Malcolm Subban headed back to the AHL, Niklas Svedberg has been recalled to once again serve as Tuukka Rask's top backup. During his four-game stint with Boston following his first NHL recall on January 30, Subban backed up Rask and has yet to make his regular season debut with the big club. The 2012 first-rounder will thus return to Providence, where he has gone 9-10-2, with a 2.47 GAA and .921 save percentage in 22 AHL contests to date this season.

Bruins' Subban Recalled From AHL

News: Malcolm Subban was recalled from AHL Providence on Thursday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: For the corresponding move, fellow netminder Niklas Svedberg is headed to Providence on a conditioning loan. Svedberg has played well in limited action this season, and Malcolm Subban has been magnificent in the AHL. It's probably just the case where the Bruins want to get Svedberg some extended work, but Subban's presence may eventually make the Swedish goaltender expendable.

Bruins Send Subban To Minors

News: Malcolm Subban was returned to AHL Providence on Wednesday, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban will serve as the No. 1 goalie at AHL Providence this season, and would seem to be the first in line for a call-up in the event of an injury to Tuukka Rask or Niklas Svedberg.

Bruins Recall Subban

News: Malcolm Subban was recalled from AHL Providence on Tuesday, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: No, Malcolm Subban is not coming up to replace Niklas Svedbeg as Boston's backup; it looks like he was simply recalled in an effort by the Bruins to get under the salary cap by Tuesday's deadline. Subban will technically be eligible for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Flyers, but look for him to return to Providence shortly thereafter.

Bruins Send Subban To Minors

News: Malcolm Subban was assigned to AHL Providence on Saturday, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Malcolm Subban ended his training camp with the Bruins on a high note, saving 32 shots in Friday's 6-1 preseason victory over the Islanders. He'll operate as Providence's No. 1 goalie this season.

Bruins' Subban Earns Win Over Islanders

News: Malcolm Subban made 32 saves in Friday's 6-1 preseason win over the Islanders, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 20-year-old is slated to open the season as AHL Providence's top netminder, where he'll continue to gain valuable pro experience. Meanwhile, Niklas Svedberg is on track to open the coming season with the Bruins as Tuukka Rask's backup.

Opportunity Knocks For Bruins' Subban

News: Malcolm Subban is slated to participate in the Bruins' annual summer development camp, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday, the Providence Journal reports.
Analysis: With Chad Johnson having signed with the Islanders, Niklas Svedberg would appear to have the edge in claiming the job as Tuukka Rask's top backup in 2014-15. In such a scenario, Malcolm Subban would have a chance to see plenty of action this coming season as AHL Providence's top netminder. In his first campaign as a pro, Subban put together a 15-10-5 record, 2.31 GAA and .920 save percentage in 33 games for Providence while working in tandem with Svedberg, who appeared in 45 AHL contests. With Rask in his prime, the Bruins have no reason to rush the 20-year-old Subban to the NHL, but the 2012 first-rounder remains a top prospect and thus maintains value in keeper formats.

Bruins Send SubbanTo AHL

News: The Bruins have assigned Malcolm Subban to AHL Providence, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask in the fold for the long haul, Malcolm Subban won't be rushed along by the B's, but the 2012 first-rounder is brimming with long-term upside. At the age of 19, though, he is likely to need at least a couple of seasons of minor-league experience before permanently graduating to the NHL.

Bruins' Subban Struggles Thursday

News: Malcolm Subban allowed eight goals on 28 shots in Thursday's preseason loss to Detroit.
Analysis: It was the young goalie's first start for the B's after he stopped all 12 shots he faced in Monday night's 6-3 win over Montreal. Overall, it was a forgettable night for Malcolm Subban, but it does nothing to change his promising long-term outlook. He's expected to open his first pro season with AHL Providence.

Bruins' Subban Sharp Monday

News: Malcolm Subban stopped all 12 shots he faced in Monday's 6-3 win over Montreal in the Bruins' preseason opener.
Analysis: Not a bad opener for Malcolm Subban, but he's not really in the conversation to open the season with Boston, the Boston Globe notes. The young goalie is clearly best served by seeing ample playing time at this stage of his development as a pro and it's likely he will start the season with AHL Providence.

Bruins' Subban Likely Ready For The Pros

News: GM Peter Chiarelli didn't rule out Malcolm Subban competing for the Bruins' No. 2 goaltending job this coming season, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: That said, the 19-year-old Malcolm Subban is a longshot to stick with the big club, with an assignment with AHL Providence -- where he'd likely be split time with either Niklas Svedberg or Chad Johnson -- likely on tap for him. In what was likely his final junior season, Subban compiled a 29-11-4 record along with a 2.14 GAA and superb .934 save percentage (both OHL bests) for the Belleville Bulls, to go along with five shutouts. With Tuukka Rask around for the long haul though, Subban won't be rushed along, but the Bruins do believe that the 2012 first-rounder is ready to move on to the pro level, where he is likely to need at least a couple of seasons of minor league experience before graduating to the NHL.

Bruins Won't Move Subban

News: The Bruins have no interest in dealing Subban, cbslocal.com reports. "I could tell you this, I'm not trading Malcolm Subban," GM Peter Chiarelli said Wednesday. "He's young, a very good goalie prospect and I see him being a big part of our future. We have some goalie depth, but I can tell you I'm not trading Malcom Subban."
Analysis: The Bruins are said to be interested in acquiring Calgary's Jarome Iginla and trading for him would come at quite a cost, which is why Malcolm Subban's name is being brought up in trade rumors. In any case, while the 19-year-old Subban, selected 24th overall in last year draft, is probably two or three years away from prime-time, he is clearly viewed as a key part of the Bruins' future and won't be dealt at this time.
