Hawks' Teravainen Appears Headed For Start

News: Teuvo Teravainen practiced on Thursday on the line with Bryan Bickell and Antoine Vermette and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Both Teuvo Teravainen and Bickell were healthy scratches on Wednesday against Philadelphia, but both appear headed to skate against Columbus. In addition both Joakim Nordstrom and Daniel Carcillo suffered upper-body injuries so the Blackhawks have fewer options for Friday. Even if both Nordstrom and Carcillo were not injured, Teravainen probably was going to skate against the Blue Jackets.

Hawks' Teravainen Scratched Wednesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen was a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Flyers as Hawks coach Joel Quenneville sorts out a consistent lineup as the team heads toward the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen, the team's top prospect this season, is still trying to find his way in the NHL. If it was a team not in the running for the playoffs, Teravainen would be on the ice for every game. He has shown some flashes this season with three goals and four assists in 25 games in his first full season in the NHL. Quenneville sat both Teravainen and Bryan Bickell while rolling out Andrew Desjardins and Daniel Carcillo against Philadelphia. With the Hawks losing 4-1 to the Flyers, there is a good chance that Teravainen would be back on the ice on Friday against Columbus.

Chicago's Teravainen Likely To Be Scratched Friday

News: Teuvo Teravainen is expected to serve as a healthy scratch Friday against the Oilers, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: It sounds like coach Joel Quenneville is itching to get a look at the recently acquired Andrew Desjardins, so he'll slot into the lineup for his Blackhawks debut while Teuvo Teravainen heads to the press box. Teravainen was expected to be the main ice time beneficiary in the wake of Patrick Kane's long-term injury, but he hasn't played more than 14 minutes in the three games since his call-up.

Chicago's Teravainen Kicks Off Scoring Thursday

News: Teuvo Teravainen netted his third goal of the season in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Blackhawks. It went down as the first game-winning tally of his NHL career.
Analysis: Recalled by the Blackhawks in the wake of Patrick Kane's likely season-ending injury, Teuvo Teravainen made an immediate impact while skating on the third line next to Bryan Bickell and Andrew Shaw, getting the 'Hawks on the board three minutes into the match. Don't expect Teravainen to play Lou Gehrig to Kane's Wally Pipp, but the 20-year-old's standing as a top-flight prospect and the strong quality of his linemates might make him worth a speculative pickup.

Blackhawks To Recall Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be officially recalled from AHL Rockford on Wednesday, ESPN.com's Scott Powers reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen's promotion comes as no surprise after Patrick Kane left Tuesday's game with a suspected broken collarbone, which is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the regular season. The 20-year-old winger didn't find overwhelming success during his previous stay with the Blackhawks while Kris Versteeg was sidelined, producing only two goals and two assists in 15 games. It's likely that another player will get the first crack at filling Kane's void on the Patrick Sharp-Brad Richards line, but Teravainen should get ample opportunity to solidify a role on the club's third trio.

Blackhawks Assign Teravainen to AHL

News: Teuvo Teravainen was reassigned to AHL Rockford on Thursday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen played in 15 games with the Blackhawks after being recalled, but was a healthy scratch against the Canucks on Wednesday. With Kris Versteeg's return to the lineup, Teravainen will head back to the AHL to receive more consistent playing time.

Blackhawks To Make Teravainen A Scratch

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's game against the Canucks, ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers reports.
Analysis: With the Blackhawks welcoming Kris Versteeg (hand) back from injured reserve Wednesday, Teuvo Teravainen will head to the press box to clear the way for his return to the lineup. Coach Joel Quenneville reiterated Wednesday that he prefers not to use Teravainen outside of a top-nine role, but with the Blackhawks now back at full strength at forward, it may be tough for the rookie to reclaim a spot. If he fails to crack the lineup over the Blackhawks' next handful of games, Teravainen would more than likely get reassigned to AHL Rockford. Teravainen has contributed two goals and two assists while averaging 11:35 of ice time during his 15 games since being recalled.

Hawks' Teravainen Finding Stride

News: Teuvo Teravainen scored his second goal, added his first career assist and went plus-2 Tuesday in a 6-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: A sharp outing for the rookie, who's now got three points over his last three games and has looked impressively active on the offensive end in general. His usage remains low, but he'll eventually force the Blackhawks' hand if he continues being so noticeable on the ice despite bottom-six minutes.

Blackhawks' Teravainen Nets First Career Goal

News: Teuvo Teravainen scored his first NHL goal in Friday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Though it's the only point the young winger has produced in his five games with the Blackhawks thus far, Teuvo Teravainen does at least seem to be looking for his own offense after appearing tentative in the early going. He's fired off a total of nine shots over his last two games.

Hawks' Teravainen On Ice For Back-To-Back Games

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be on the ice on Sunday against the Wild for his first back-to-back game scenario since being called up from AHL Rockford on Jan. 2, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was a healthy scratch on Thursday against the Wild and then returned to the ice on Friday against Edmonton. He did have almost 15 minutes of ice time against the Oilers, a sign the Blackhawks might be preparing him for a larger role. Despite not registering a point in the first three games of this season, Teravainen is receiving good reviews on other aspects of the game.

Hawks' Teravainen Scratched Thursday

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against the Wild, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: After a decent season debut over the weekend against Dallas, Teuvo Teravainen was less active in Tuesday's loss to the Avalanche, logging just one shot on goal over 10:07 of ice time. The Blackhawks aren't giving up hope on him providing some high-impact minutes in their bottom-six, but he'll get a day out of the lineup to take some of the pressure off. He'll be replaced by Daniel Carcillo.

Hawks' Teravainen Impressive In Season Debut

News: Despite picking up no points, Teuvo Teravainen looked good and was very involved Sunday in his season debut for the Blackhawks, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: He skated just under 11 minutes, including some early power-play time. Teuvo Teravainen won two of five face-offs on the fourth line while putting three shots on goal. Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said afterward that Teravainen has improved from last spring. "I think he's moving better," Quenneville said. "I think he looks bigger, he looks quicker. Positionally, I thought he was more aware."

Chicago's Teravainen To Debut On Fourth Line

News: Teuvo Teravainen, who was called up from AHL Rockford on Friday, centered the fourth line with wingers Joakim Nordstrom and Ben Smith in Saturday's practice, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen is expected to be on the ice Sunday against the Stars. The Blackhawks will probably ease their top prospect in for his second trip in the NHL, so don't expect big minutes on Sunday. Teravainen skated last spring in three games for the Hawks and did not register a point. He has come on recently for Rockford, and has six goals and 17 assists in 33 games for the squad on the season. For many teams in the NHL, he probably would have been up with the big club to begin the season, but the Blackhawks left him in the minors in an attempt to have him pick up more significant ice time.

Hawks Recall Teravainen

News: Tervainen was recalled from AHL Rockford on Friday.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was recalled after Kris Versteeg injured his hand blocking a shot, and indications are Versteeg will likely miss an extended period of time. Teravainen is considered one of the top AHL prospects, and either he or Patrick Sharp will likely take Versteeg's spot on the second line. In 33 games with AHL Rockford this season, the 20-year-old has six goals and 17 assists. He figures to make his NHL debut Sunday against the Stars.

Chicago's Teravainen (Illness) Out For AHL Tilt

News: Teuvo Teravainen missed AHL Rockford's game Tuesday due to a sinus infection, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: As of now, the illness doesn't sound like it will be a major setback for Teuvo Teravainen. The 20-year-old has a goal and six assists in 10 games for Rockford this season.

Versteeg Injury Won't Force Teravainen To Chicago

News: The Blackhawks won't promote Teuvo Teravainen from AHL Rockford, despite Wednesday's announcement that forward Kris Versteeg would miss about three weeks with a lower-body injury, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Though Versteeg's absence creates a vacancy in the Blackhawks' bottom-six forward corps, the team brass reiterated that it doesn't want Teuvo Teravainen with the parent club if he's not going to receive substantial minutes. At this stage in his development, the 20-year-old Teravainen would benefit from seeing more consistent ice time as a top-line center in the minors than he would playing on a checking line for the Blackhawks. Don't expect the organization to change their tune on the matter at any point in the immediate future.

Chicago Sends Teravainen To AHL

News: Teuvo Teravainen was assigned to AHL Rockford on Saturday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen is Chicago's top prospect and is widely viewed as one of the best in the NHL, but there was simply no room for him to earn meaningful ice time on a deep Blackhawks squad. The 20-year-old provided a glimpse of his vast potential with a goal and an assist over his two preseason contests, and he'll likely be a top candidate to earn a call-up to the Blackhawks any time one of the team's top-six forwards suffers an injury. His big break might not come until next season, however, when second-line center Brad Richards will be a free agent.

AHL Likely Awaits Blackhawks' Teravainen

News: While Blackhawks head man Joel Quenneville indicated Wednesday that the team hasn't decided on Teuvo Teravainen's fate for this season, the coach strongly suggested that the young winger would open the season at the AHL level, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: With only a fourth-line duty available for Teuvo Teravainen if he makes the team's Opening Night roster, it seems the Blackhawks are leaning toward stashing him in the minors, where he could better develop as a top-six player. The 20-year-old ranks as the Blackhawks' top prospect and one of the best in all of hockey, and while he might not get a full-time opportunity to showcase his skills in 2014-15, he could be centering Patrick Kane by this point next season.

Hawks' Teravainen Finally Hits The Ice

News: Teuvo Teravainen, who missed the first three exhibition games with an upper-body injury, was on the ice Sunday and scored his first goal in a Blackhawks' uniform in the 5-0 win over Edmonton, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Despite the goal Teuvo Teravainen is expected to be sent down to Rockford of the AHL, but he might be one of the last cuts. He could stick with the Hawks if one of the centers is injured, but the plan is to get as much ice time as possible for the Blackhawks' top prospect.

Hawks' Teravainen Expected To Play Sunday

News: Teuvo Teravainen (upper body) is expected to play Sunday, Scott Powers of ESPN.com reports

Blackhawks' Teravainen Won't Play Thursday

News: Teuvo Teravainen (upper body) will not play in Thursday's exhibition against the Red Wings, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was able to return to practice Wednesday after missing the previous three days of activity due to the injury, which he obtained during a scrimmage last Saturday. The Blackhawks seem to be taking precaution with their prized 20-year-old prospect in holding him out Thursday, but it shouldn't be long before he slots back in for regular duty in preseason contests.

Hawks' Teravainen To Make Preseason Debut Tuesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen was held out of Monday's preseason opener as a precaution due to an upper-body injury he sustained over the weekend, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was leveled on a check from defenseman Cam Barker in Saturday's practice, resulting in him missing Sunday's scrimmages. Coach Joel Quenneville dismissed the injury as anything serious, and suggested Teravainen would be able to play in Tuesday's exhibition match. The 20-year-old is considered among the best prospects in hockey, but Chicago's considerable depth on the wings probably means he won't remain with the big club for good until 2015-16.

Hawks Preach Patience On Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen has impressed at rookie camp, according to CSN Comcast Sportsnet, but the Blackhawks will be patient with his development. "It's going to take a number of years … He's only 19 years old," said General Manager Stan Bowman.
Analysis: His offensive skills were on full display during the camp and coach Joel Quenneville raved about him Friday. "I thought he had a special day," said Quenneville. "Over the course of the week, you can see his skills. When you put a puck and you're playing for real, you see his vision, anticipation and how he's creating with the puck. And his anticipation offensively is excellent." There is still a chance that Teuvo Teravainen starts the season in Rockford of the AHL, so don't overrate him in single-year leagues.

Blackhawks Reassign Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen was reassigned to AHL Rockford, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen had been a healthy scratch the last four games for the Blackhawks, as coach Joel Quenneville evidently determined he wasn't ready to compete at the NHL level just yet. The 19-year-old is still regarded as one of the hockey's top prospects, but it may take a few years before he makes an impact.

Hawks' Teravainen Healthy Scratch Sunday

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch again on Sunday, and does not appear to be in the Blackhawks' plans for the playoffs, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: It will be the third straight game that the 19-year-old rookie will be a healthy scratch. For Teuvo Teravainen it is the timing as the Blackhawks are chasing the Avalanche for home-ice advantage. In addition the team does not want to push into the pressure situations. There has been no decision yet on whether Teravainen will play for the Hawks in the postseason or Rockford of the AHL. "It's a big league and a hard league," said Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville. "And we want to make sure we're helping ourselves get points. At the same time, he's (Teravainen) learning, as well." No matter what happens with him, he will be a big player on the fantasy radar in the 2014-15 season.
