Chicago's Teravainen (Illness) Out For AHL Tilt

News: Teuvo Teravainen missed AHL Rockford's game Tuesday due to a sinus infection, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: As of now, the illness doesn't sound like it will be a major setback for Teuvo Teravainen. The 20-year-old has a goal and six assists in 10 games for Rockford this season.

Versteeg Injury Won't Force Teravainen To Chicago

News: The Blackhawks won't promote Teuvo Teravainen from AHL Rockford, despite Wednesday's announcement that forward Kris Versteeg would miss about three weeks with a lower-body injury, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Though Versteeg's absence creates a vacancy in the Blackhawks' bottom-six forward corps, the team brass reiterated that it doesn't want Teuvo Teravainen with the parent club if he's not going to receive substantial minutes. At this stage in his development, the 20-year-old Teravainen would benefit from seeing more consistent ice time as a top-line center in the minors than he would playing on a checking line for the Blackhawks. Don't expect the organization to change their tune on the matter at any point in the immediate future.

Chicago Sends Teravainen To AHL

News: Teuvo Teravainen was assigned to AHL Rockford on Saturday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen is Chicago's top prospect and is widely viewed as one of the best in the NHL, but there was simply no room for him to earn meaningful ice time on a deep Blackhawks squad. The 20-year-old provided a glimpse of his vast potential with a goal and an assist over his two preseason contests, and he'll likely be a top candidate to earn a call-up to the Blackhawks any time one of the team's top-six forwards suffers an injury. His big break might not come until next season, however, when second-line center Brad Richards will be a free agent.

AHL Likely Awaits Blackhawks' Teravainen

News: While Blackhawks head man Joel Quenneville indicated Wednesday that the team hasn't decided on Teuvo Teravainen's fate for this season, the coach strongly suggested that the young winger would open the season at the AHL level, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: With only a fourth-line duty available for Teuvo Teravainen if he makes the team's Opening Night roster, it seems the Blackhawks are leaning toward stashing him in the minors, where he could better develop as a top-six player. The 20-year-old ranks as the Blackhawks' top prospect and one of the best in all of hockey, and while he might not get a full-time opportunity to showcase his skills in 2014-15, he could be centering Patrick Kane by this point next season.

Hawks' Teravainen Finally Hits The Ice

News: Teuvo Teravainen, who missed the first three exhibition games with an upper-body injury, was on the ice Sunday and scored his first goal in a Blackhawks' uniform in the 5-0 win over Edmonton, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Despite the goal Teuvo Teravainen is expected to be sent down to Rockford of the AHL, but he might be one of the last cuts. He could stick with the Hawks if one of the centers is injured, but the plan is to get as much ice time as possible for the Blackhawks' top prospect.

Hawks' Teravainen Expected To Play Sunday

News: Teuvo Teravainen (upper body) is expected to play Sunday, Scott Powers of ESPN.com reports
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen has yet to play this preseason, so this is good news for his fantasy value. He has been day-to-day after taking a big hit, but looks ready to go for Sunday.

Blackhawks' Teravainen Won't Play Thursday

News: Teuvo Teravainen (upper body) will not play in Thursday's exhibition against the Red Wings, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was able to return to practice Wednesday after missing the previous three days of activity due to the injury, which he obtained during a scrimmage last Saturday. The Blackhawks seem to be taking precaution with their prized 20-year-old prospect in holding him out Thursday, but it shouldn't be long before he slots back in for regular duty in preseason contests.

Hawks' Teravainen To Make Preseason Debut Tuesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen was held out of Monday's preseason opener as a precaution due to an upper-body injury he sustained over the weekend, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen was leveled on a check from defenseman Cam Barker in Saturday's practice, resulting in him missing Sunday's scrimmages. Coach Joel Quenneville dismissed the injury as anything serious, and suggested Teravainen would be able to play in Tuesday's exhibition match. The 20-year-old is considered among the best prospects in hockey, but Chicago's considerable depth on the wings probably means he won't remain with the big club for good until 2015-16.

Hawks Preach Patience On Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen has impressed at rookie camp, according to CSN Comcast Sportsnet, but the Blackhawks will be patient with his development. "It's going to take a number of years … He's only 19 years old," said General Manager Stan Bowman.
Analysis: His offensive skills were on full display during the camp and coach Joel Quenneville raved about him Friday. "I thought he had a special day," said Quenneville. "Over the course of the week, you can see his skills. When you put a puck and you're playing for real, you see his vision, anticipation and how he's creating with the puck. And his anticipation offensively is excellent." There is still a chance that Teuvo Teravainen starts the season in Rockford of the AHL, so don't overrate him in single-year leagues.

Blackhawks Reassign Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen was reassigned to AHL Rockford, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen had been a healthy scratch the last four games for the Blackhawks, as coach Joel Quenneville evidently determined he wasn't ready to compete at the NHL level just yet. The 19-year-old is still regarded as one of the hockey's top prospects, but it may take a few years before he makes an impact.

Hawks' Teravainen Healthy Scratch Sunday

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch again on Sunday, and does not appear to be in the Blackhawks' plans for the playoffs, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: It will be the third straight game that the 19-year-old rookie will be a healthy scratch. For Teuvo Teravainen it is the timing as the Blackhawks are chasing the Avalanche for home-ice advantage. In addition the team does not want to push into the pressure situations. There has been no decision yet on whether Teravainen will play for the Hawks in the postseason or Rockford of the AHL. "It's a big league and a hard league," said Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville. "And we want to make sure we're helping ourselves get points. At the same time, he's (Teravainen) learning, as well." No matter what happens with him, he will be a big player on the fantasy radar in the 2014-15 season.

Blackhawks' Teravainen A Healthy Scratch

News: Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch for Friday's game against the Ottawa Senators, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen failed to score a point in his first two NHL games, but he should see more ice time before the end of the regular season. In the 19-year-old's absence, Matt Carey could join the fourth line.

Quiet NHL Debut For Hawks' Teravainen

News: Teuvo Teravainen skated 11:39 in his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Stars, recording no points and no shots on goal, but winning all seven of his faceoffs.
Analysis: Despite missing the scoresheet, he received praise for his playmaking in the contest. It's also good to see Teuvo Teravainen come out and win faceoffs; if he keeps that up, with his playmaking skills, he could conceivably rise as far as the Blackhawks' second line before the season's out.

Hawks' Teravainen Will Skate Tuesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen will make his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Stars, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen, one of the team's top prospects, was called up last Friday and has been practicing with the team, but Tuesday's game will be his first action in the NHL. He skated in preseason games for the Blackhawks, but has otherwise spent the season in the Finnish Liiga, where he tied for sixth in the league with 44 points (nine goals and 35 assists) in 49 games. He also helped Finland to the gold medal in the World Junior Championship in January, recording 15 points in seven games. The 19-year-old skated on a line with Brandon Saad and Ben Smith on Tuesday morning.

Hawks' Teravainen Expected To Play Tuesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen is expected to make his NHL debut Tuesday against the Stars, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen took warm-ups Sunday against the Predators, but didn't end up playing in the game. If he's in the lineup Tuesday, it may be the first look at the Blackhawks' second-line center of the future. The team has had trouble finding a true playmaking center to play alongside Patrick Kane, but they're hopeful Teravainen can fill that role. Kane won't be in the lineup Tuesday, but Teravainen should have a chance to play alongside some skilled players in Brandon Saad and Andrew Shaw, and may also get a look on the second power-play unit.

Teravainen Won't Skate Sunday, Could Tuesday

News: Teuvo Teravainen won't suit up on Sunday for the Blackhawks against the Predators, but coach Joel Quenneville said that there is a good chance that he will skate on Tuesday against the Stars, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: The much anticipated arrival of Teuvo Teravainen appears to be close. There is a lot of hype for the 19-year-old who recently finished tied for sixth in the Finnish Liiga with 44 regular-season points (nine goals, 35 assists) in 49 games for Jokerit Helsinki.

Hawks' Teravainen Won't Skate Friday

News: Teuvo Teravainen, who was recalled on Friday by the Blackhawks, will not skate in Friday night's game against the Hurricanes, ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen could skate Sunday against the Predators in Chicago. The decision to place Patrick Kane on long-term injured reserve helped open up some salary cap and allowed the Blackhawks to bring up Teravainen, who just finished his season in the Finnish league. There was some talk that he could have been placed in Rockford of the AHL. Teravainen is somebody to watch in the last few weeks of the regular season, but he is still only 19. He's the Blackhawks' 2012 first-round pick.

Hawks' Teravainen Recalled Friday

News: Teuvo Teravainen was recalled Friday after the Blackhawks put Patrick Kane on long-term injured reserve, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: There was some debate over whether the 'Hawks should bring Teuvo Teravainen up with the big club or place him with AHL Rockford after his season in Finland ended. Part of the problem was the salary cap, but that opened up with Kane placed on long-term injured reserve. Teravainen is somebody to watch in the last few weeks of the regular season, but he is still only 19. The Blackhawks' 2012 first-round pick, who is 5-foot-11, 169 pounds, finished tied for sixth in the Finnish Liiga with 44 regular-season points (nine goals, 35 assists) in 49 games for Jokerit Helsinki.

Teravainen To Join Blackhawks After Finnish Season

News: Coach Joel Quenneville said Teuvo Teravainen would arrive in Chicago after his season in Finland concludes, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: The 19-year-old led Finland to the gold medal in the World Junior Championships in January and continues to shine for Jokerit, his club team in the Liiga. While Teuvo Teravainen wouldn't be asked to play a pivotal role if he's in fact added to the Blackhawks roster in the final couple of weeks of the season, he'd certainly be some one worth tracking in dynasty formats.

Hawks' Teravainen Leads Fins To Gold

News: Teuvo Teravainen, the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks, led the Finish team and the entire tournament in scoring at the World Junior Championships in Sweden.
Analysis: The 19-year-old, who helped lead Finland to the gold medal on Sunday, collected 15 points, two goals and 13 assists during the tournament. He played for the Blackhawks for a couple of games during the preseason; but mainly has been skating in Finland and will for most of the rest of the season. Teuvo Teravainen could still see some time for the Blackhawks in April, but he could also skate for Finland in the World Championships in Belarus in May. No matter what, Teravainen could very well be in the NHL come the 2014-15 season.

Teravainen Leaves Hawks For Finland

News: Teuvo Teravainen finished up his time with the Blackhawks, training camp and two preseason planes and was on a plane back to Finland on Friday, the ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: He is only 19 so the team wants him to gain some seasoning in Finland with his team, Jokerit in Finland's SM-liiga. He is expected to be back in April with the Blackhawks and he could be staying for a while. There is a lot of expectations from just the little that the team has seen of Teuvo Teravainen.

Blackhawks Sign Prospect Teravainen To Three-Year Deal

News: Teuvo Teravainen signed a three-year contract with the Blackhawks on Thursday, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Teuvo Teravainen, the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, was stashed overseas last season but could make an impact for the reigning Stanley Cup champions at some point in the near future, but probably not until next year. Despite his lack of size for a forward, he's a savvy passer and should ultimately become a top-line player for the Blackhawks once he fully matures.
