Lightning's Vasilevskiy Re-Assigned To AHL

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy was re-assigned to AHL Syracuse on Thursday.
Analysis: This would seem to suggest Ben Bishop's setback with his lower-body injury is relatively minor, though the team has not yet named a starter for Friday's game against the Penguins. In four starts for the Lightning this season, Andrei Vasilevskiy has posted a 1.76 GAA, saving 104 of 111 shots faced.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Stops 10 In Win

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed one goal on 11 shots in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy got the start Wednesday to give starter Ben Bishop some rest, and played well once again. It obviously helped that he only faced 11 shots for the whole game, but with three wins in four starts on the season, Vasilevskiy is looking like a promising prospect considering he's still just 20 years old.

Lightning's Vasilevskiy Gets The Start Wednesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will be between the pipes for Wednesday's game against the Sabres, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy will start, and Evgeni Nabokov will likely back him up, as the Lightning look to get regular goaltender Ben Bishop some rest. Vasilevskiy will square off against a Buffalo squad that has generally played better since mid-November, but is averaging just 1.86 goals per game.

Lightning's Vasilevskiy Recalled From AHL

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy was recalled from AHL Syracuse on Tuesday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy may be a candidate to start Wednesday's game in Buffalo, in which case he might also be sent back to the AHL after the game. With both Ben Bishop and Evgeni Nabokov healthy, the Lighting probably won't keep Vasilevskiy around for long. Coach Jon Cooper may just want to give Bishop a day out of the net Wednesday against a weak opponent.

Bolts Reassign Vasilevskiy To AHL

News: The Lightning have reassigned Andrei Vasilevskiy to Syracuse of the AHL.
Analysis: He was 2-1 with a 2.01 GAA and .940 save percentage during this call-up. He's 8-3-3 with a 2.34 GAA and .918 save percentage in the AHL this season and had been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week on Dec. 15. He'll be back, but only if there's another injury.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy To Start Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will make the start in goal Tuesday versus the Penguins, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy has adapted quickly to the increased speed of the NHL, turning in impressive showings in both of his previous two starts, highlighted by a 45-save effort in Saturday's loss to the Islanders. With Ben Bishop (groin) set to miss his fourth straight contest, Vasilevskiy will get another turn, but expect him to head back to the AHL shortly after the Christmas break. It's generally expected that Bishop will be fully recovered and ready to resume No. 1 duties for Saturday's game against the Hurricanes, while Evgeni Nabokov sticks around to serve as his backup.

Vasilevskiy Saves 26 In Bolts' Win

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The game did get a bit hairy -- the Bolts were up 4-0 before the Pens put the pedal to the metal, scoring three unanswered goals. He has a bright future, but it'll be better honed (as least for now) in the minors. And that's where he's likely to find himself when Ben Bishop returns after Christmas.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Expected In Net

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and is expected to start in net Tuesday against the Penguins.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy will receive his second start in a row coming off a superb outing in which he allowed just two goals on 47 shots. He will receive the nod Tuesday, though Ben Bishop's impending return will likely halt his fantasy value moving forward.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy: 45 Saves In Loss

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made 45 saves in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Islanders. He allowed two goals.
Analysis: He was nursing a shutout until the 16:51 mark of the third period when the floodgates opened up. The Isles notched two goals in 12 seconds and then found the empty net, too. He has allowed just three goals in two games this season and is a solid activation while Ben Bishop is out.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy To Receive Nod Saturday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will be between the pipes Saturday against the Islanders, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: As expected, Andrei Vasilevskiy will be handed his second NHL start Saturday after Evgeni Nabokov manned the net in Friday's shootout loss to the Devils. Vasilevskiy's debut Tuesday went about as well as the Bolts could have hoped, as the young netminder stopped 23 of 24 shots to dispatch the Flyers. However, with Ben Bishop (lower body) looking to be on the mend after he was able to skate Saturday, Vasilevskiy's time in Tampa Bay might not last much longer.

Bolts Could Go With Vasilevskiy Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy, who was recalled following Monday's loss to the Penguins, looks like the favorite to draw the start Tuesday against the Flyers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Ben Bishop (lower body) not expected back until at least Saturday, the Bolts will have openings to fill in their next two games. Evgeni Nabokov played the final 40 minutes of Monday's loss to the Penguins after Bishop went down to the injury, but considering that he's 39 years old, coach Jon Cooper would probably prefer not to go with the aging netminder two nights in a row. That could pave the way for Andrei Vasilevskiy to make his first career start Tuesday, though Cooper is officially calling it a game-decision. The 20-year-old had an 8-3-3 record, 2.34 GAA and .918 save percentage across his 14 outings with AHL Syracuse.

Victorious Debut For Bolts' Vasilevskiy

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy downed the Flyers in his NHL debut Tuesday, stopping 23 of 24 shots in a 3-1 win.
Analysis: The Lightning's first-round draft pick in 2012, Andrei Vasilevskiy was playing in just his 15th game in North America and he did good work against a Flyers team that'd been rediscovering its offense recently. With Ben Bishop (lower body) hurting, Vasilevskiy could get a chance to start again Friday in New Jersey. The situation's worth monitoring for daily formats.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy To Make NHL Debut

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy led the Lightning onto the ice for pregame warmups and will receive the nod in goal Tuesday against the Flyers, Erik Erlenddson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Called up Monday night in the wake of Ben Bishop's lower-body injury, Andrei Vasilevskiy will make his first NHL appearance Tuesday. Though the Flyers have been mostly a disaster this season, they still rank in the middle of the pack in goals per game, which could make it difficult for Vasilevskiy to find immediate success. Still, he could be worthy of a short-term pickup in leagues that start multiple goalies.

Lightning Recall Vasilevskiy From AHL

News: The Lightning recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy from AHL Syracuse on Tuesday.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy was brought up to provide some insurance in case Ben Bishop, who exited Monday's game with a lower-body injury, is unable to play Tuesday night. Vasilevskiy is the Lightning's goalie of the future, but if Bishop misses any time due to his injury, Evgeni Nabokov would likely get the first shot to replace him.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Heads To AHL

News: Andrey Vasilevskiy has been assigned to the AHL Syracuse Crunch.
Analysis: He impressed this preseason, but really needs consistent playing time to build his game. He'll get that in a likely platoon in the AHL.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Shows Potential In Win

News: Andrey Vasilevskiy went the distance Tuesday in a 4-2 exhibition win over Nashville. He made 30 saves and his coach, Jon Cooper, was enthusiastic about his goalie's play: "You can see the potential in that kid ... He didn't lose composure when we were behind in the third period, and he won us the game."
Analysis: He's only 20 and is ticketed to split duties in the AHL this season. But it's clear he has the tools to excel at the NHL level ... some day. That day -- at least from a full-time perspective -- will not come for a few years, but he's still worth holding in deep dynasty leagues.
