Bolts' Vasilevskiy Not Starting Game 5

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy isn't starting Saturday versus the Blackhawks in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Bryan Burns of the Lightning's official site reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy will yield goalie duties to Ben Bishop (undisclosed), who has been given the all-clear to take the ice. If for some reason Bishop needs treatment at some point, Vasilevskiy has allowed two goals on 24 shots in his two appearances in the Finals.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Stops 17 In Loss

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed two goals on 19 shots in Wednesday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy wasn't overly busy, but made some big saves throughout the course of the game, and had a little help from the pipes as the Hawks drew iron three times. There's no word on whether starter Ben Bishop (lower body) will be healthy enough to start the pivotal Game 5 Saturday, or is Vasilevskiy will get the call once again.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Expected To Start Wednesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy led the Lightning onto the ice for pregame warm-ups ahead of Wednesday's Game 4 tilt against the Blackhawks and is expected to start, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy appears to be in line to get the start Wednesday as usual starter Ben Bishop is not even on the ice for warmup. He picked up the win in Game 2 after replacing Bishop in the third period. Vasilevskiy stopped all five shots he faced in that outing.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Not Starting Game 3

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will not get the start in net in Monday's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Blackhawks, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: For a time, it appeared as though Ben Bishop's apparent knee injury would keep him out of Monday's contest. However, Bishop led the Lightning onto the ice for pregame warmups, indicating he'll get the start in net in Game 3 of the Finals. Andrei Vasilevskiy, however, will have to be ready to relieve Bishop at any moment, as Bishop could easily aggravate his nagging injury at some point during the Game 3 matchup.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Expected To Start Game 3

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to receive the start in goal for Monday's Game 3 against the Blackhawks, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Ben Bishop took part in Monday's morning skate, but the fact that third-string goalie Kristers Gudlevskis traveled with the rest of the team to the United Center suggests that Bishop might not be available. If that's the case, the Lightning would turn to the 20-year-old Andrei Vasilevskiy to make his first career postseason start. Don't expect clarity on the Lightning's starting goalie to arrive until pregame warmups, but the signs seem to point toward Vasilevskiy manning the net.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Comes Off Bench To Win Game 2

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all five shots he faced after replacing Ben Bishop (undisclosed) midway through the third period in Saturday's Game 2 against the Blackhawks. He would ultimately go on to pick up his first career postseason win.
Analysis: With Bishop slowed by injury, Andrei Vasilevskiy, who had only made two previous appearances in the postseason, was called upon to enter the crease with the game knotted 3-3. Despite the lack of prep time, Vasilevskiy was sharp in his limited action, then earned the victory when Jason Garrison potted the game-winner 8:49 into the third period. The 20-year-old became only the fourth goalie in 77 years to get his first playoff win in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the first rookie goalie to win a Finals game since the Canes' Cam Ward achieved the feat in 2006. It remains to be seen if Bishop's injury will prevent him from playing in Game 3, but coach Jon Cooper seems to have faith in Vasilevskiy to keep the Bolts competitive if he's needed.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Replaces Bishop in Third Period

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy replaced Ben Bishop in the third period of Saturday's Game 2 of the Stanley CupJoe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Bishop's status for Game 3 remains unclear, but if the Lightning have to go with Andrei Vasilevskiy, the team is confident in him to perform at a high level. If Vasilevskiy is needed in Game 3, Tampa Bay will make an announcement in the next few days.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Sees Rare Postseason Duty

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy replaced Ben Bishop with 12:46 remaining in the third period of Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6. The Bolts backup goalie stopped six of seven shots.
Analysis: It was the 20-year-old's second appearance of the postseason, with both coming when the Lightning were on the wrong end of blowouts. While Bishop's outing in front of the home crowd was hardly inspiring, there's little chance that coach Jon Cooper will turn away from his No. 1 netminder with the series on the line in Friday's Game 7. Don't expect Cooper to even entertain the idea of going with Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Makes Postseason Debut

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made his playoff debut in Thursday's Game 4 loss to Montreal, giving up three goals on 26 shots in relief of Ben Bishop.
Analysis: Bishop wasn't effective, but Andrei Vasilevskiy wasn't all that much better against a Canadiens team that was determined to avoid a sweep. He'll almost certainly return to the bench in his backup role come Game 5.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Makes 25 Saves In Loss

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves on 28 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: He's now 7-5-1 on the season with a solid save percentage (.920 heading into Tuesday) for such a young player. But Andrei Vasilevskiy's just 3-4-1 in his last eight starts, so it's unlikely he'll steal time from Ben Bishop any time soon.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Confirmed In Goal Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy led the Lightning on the ice for pregame warmups and has been confirmed as the starter in goal Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy, who owns a 7-4-1 record and 2.30 GAA over his 15 appearances with the Lightning, will match up against Leafs backup goalie James Reimer. Though Reimer led the Leafs to the victory column in his previous start, the team had lost its seven previous games, making them a rather vulnerable target Tuesday. Vasilevskiy should have strong odds of securing win No. 8 on the year.

Lightning Could Start Vasilevskiy On Tuesday

News: Joe Smith of The Tampa Bay Times expects Andrei Vasilevskiy to draw the start Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: With Ben Bishop having earned the win Monday against Montreal, it looks like Andrei Vasilevskiy is in line to get a shot at Toronto on Tuesday. The Leafs snapped a seven-game slide with Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Ottawa.

Tampa's Vasilevskiy Appears In Relief

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy replaced starter Ben Bishop about seven minutes into the second period of Thursday's game. He stopped all eight shots he faced.
Analysis: Bishop had an off game; nothing more, nothing less. Andrei Vasilevskiy has had a solid March, delivering a 3-1 record in four starts. The net is still Bishop's, though, so don't too excited (unless you're in a keeper league and playing for next year).

Vasilevskiy, Lightning Outlast Panthers

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 33 of 36 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over Florida.
Analysis: Making his first start in 10 days, the Russian rookie showed no rust while outplaying Roberto Luongo. He doesn't get to start over Ben Bishop very often, obviously, but makes for a terrific spot start when he does get the call.

Lightning Turn To Vasilevskiy On Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Panthers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy, who sports a 6-4-1 record to go along with a 2.35 GAA and .918 save percentage overall, is thus in line to make his first appearance since March 14, with the Lightning in the midst of a three-game win streak.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy: 27 Saves In 2-1 Loss

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: He didn't allow a goal until the 10-minute mark of the third and then was betrayed by his defence when they gave the puck away to Blake Wheeler who drilled home the winner from the right circle. He earned the game's third star for his effort.

Bolts Going With Vasilevskiy On Saturday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Jets, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Regular starter Ben Bishop has been exceptional his past few times out, but with coach Jon Cooper pledging to rest his No. 1 goalie more frequently down the stretch in preparation for the postseason, Andrei Vasilevskiy will receive increased opportunities over the next few weeks. The playoff-contending Jets don't represent the easiest matchup for the rookie netminder, but he's proven capable when called upon thus far, going 6-3-1 with a 2.37 GAA and .917 save percentage. He should be considered the favorite to pick up the win over the Jets' Ondrej Pavelec, who will start in the opposite net.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy: 31 Saves In Win

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves in a 5-4 win over Dallas on Saturday night. He has won his last two starts.
Analysis: Unfortunately, he's been hot or stone cold since his call up in early February. He delivered a shutout earlier this week and he stands on his head when he appears in relief. But in between those moments, he delivers sub .900 save percentages in starts. He still needs to grow his game; he is young, after all. So don't over invest just yet.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy To Get Start Saturday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and will receive the start in goal Saturday against the Stars, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: After earning his first career shutout against the Sabres on Tuesday, Andrei Vasilevskiy will be handed his second start in three games. Coach Jon Cooper previously stated that No. 1 goalie Ben Bishop would be rested with more frequency for the remainder of the regular season, opening the door for Vasilevskiy to become one of the more valuable backup goalies in the fantasy realm. He previously made a start against the Stars back in early February, stopping 33 shots in a 5-3 win.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Gets First NHL Shutout

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside all 28 shots the Sabres sent his way in Tuesday's 3-0 victory -- the first shutout of his young NHL career.
Analysis: After a short trip back to the AHL, Andrei Vasilevskiy got called up Thursday, and after Ben Bishop gave up four goals on Sunday, the Russian rookie ended up drawing the cake assignment against the tanking Sabres. It's his first win in nearly a month, dating back to Feb. 5, but Vasilevskiy has nonetheless given the Lightning strong work between the pipes in a limited sample.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Confirmed To Start Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Tuesday's game against the Sabres, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: A call on the Bolts' starting goalie came down to the bitter end, as there was still some uncertainty whether Andrei Vasilevskiy or Ben Bishop would get the call after the team concluded pregame warmpus, as both goalies participated. Confirmation on Vasilevskiy came barely before the 7:30 p.m. ET scheduled start time for the game, likely limiting the ability of those in daily leagues to add the goalie into their lineups on time. For those who were fortunate to keep Vasilevskiy active, he should be one of the best goalie plays on the board for Tuesday, as he'll match up against the league's 30th-ranked scoring offense.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Gets Surprise Nod Tuesday

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy led the Lightning on the ice for pregame warmups and will receive the start in goal Tuesday against the Sabres, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Ben Bishop had been expected to receive the starting nod after he was the first goalie off the ice at the Lightning's morning skate, but coach Jon Cooper decided to turn to Andrei Vasilevskiy in a surprise move. With the Sabres owning the league's worst record and clearly not aiming to be competitive this season, it probably makes some sense for coach Jon Cooper to give Bishop a rest for more important matchups down the road. In any event, Vasilevskiy represents a tremendous spot-starting option for those looking for goalie help during the Tuesday slate.

Lightning's Vasilevskiy To See More Playing Time

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy will likely get one or two starts per week for the rest of the regular season, Joe Smith of The Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: The Lightning want to keep Ben Bishop fresh for the playoffs, though the team still has quite a bit to play for in terms of seeding. Bishop will get the nod Friday against Chicago, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Andrei Vasilevskiy in net for Sunday's game against the Panthers.

Vasilevskiy Recalled By Lightning

News: The Lightning recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy from AHL Syracuse on Thursday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Andrei Vasilevskiy returns to the big club to back up Ben Bishop, after making a spot start for Syracuse on Wednesday in a 4-3 loss to Rochester.

Bolts' Vasilevskiy Sent To AHL Syracuse

News: Andrei Vasilevskiy was reassigned to AHL Syracuse on Tuesday.
Analysis: It's likely only a short-term deployment, as the Lightning won't play again until Friday. Look for Andrei Vasilevskiy to play for Syracuse during Wednesday's game before either he or Kristers Gudlevskis joins the parent club prior to the weekend.
