Caps' Wilson Chips In With Assist

News: Tom Wilson notched an assist in Friday's Game 5 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: It's the first postseason point for Tom Wilson, who has taken on more of an agitating role on the Caps' fourth line. Though he's a below-average source of points, Wilson has been picking up the penalty minutes in droves, already amassing 34 PIM across 12 playoff contests.

Caps' Wilson (Head) Medically Cleared

News: Tom Wilson (head) has been medically cleared to play, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson said he was medically cleared Thursday, so all signs point to him playing in Friday's Game 2 against the Capitals after sitting out Game 1. The 21-year-old posted four goals and 13 assists during the regular season.

Caps' Wilson Skates Thursday

News: Tom Wilson (head) participated in Thursday's optional skate, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson indicated he felt "pretty good" after the session and plans to skate again Friday morning in advance of the Capitals' Game 2 matchup with the Islanders. The winger, who sat out Wednesday's postseason opener, no longer appears to be dealing with any symptoms of a concussion, but getting back into game shape still represents something of a hurdle. He should be viewed as questionable for Friday's contest.

Caps' Wilson Appears Out For Game 1

News: Tom Wilson (head) will likely remain out of the lineup for Wednesday's Game 1 matchup against the Islanders, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Both Tom Wilson and Andre Burakovsky were on the ice for morning skate, but neither took part in line rushes, suggesting that both will be scratched for the playoff opener. Coach Barry Trotz said earlier in the week that Wilson is "very close" to a return, so we could see the young winger draw back into the lineup for Game 2 on Friday.

Caps' Wilson Close To Return

News: Tom Wilson (head) is nearing a return to action, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: "He's very close," coach Barry Trotz noted Tuesday with regard to Tom Wilson's potential return to action, though at this stage the forward's status for Wednesday's game against the Islanders remains murky. That said, with Jay Beagle and Eric Fehr poised to suit up Wednesday, we wouldn't be surprised if the Caps proceeded cautiously with Wilson in the coming days.

Caps' Wilson Takes To Ice Monday

News: Tom Wilson (head) was on the ice for part of Monday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson left the ice after about 30 minutes, but per the report, his exit was part of the Caps' training staff's scheduled plan for him, not a setback. In any case, Wilson's status for Wednesday's game against the Islanders has yet to be clarified.

Caps' Wilson To Skate Saturday Morning

News: Tom Wilson (head) will resume skating with the Capitals on Saturday morning, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson didn't take part in Friday's practice, so it appears unlikely that the Capitals will sign off on his return for a mostly meaningless season finale against the Rangers. The winger is likely aiming to be ready for the Capitals' first playoff game next week.

Caps' Wilson Out For Wednesday

News: Tom Wilson wasn't present for the Capitals' morning skate and looks to be out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Bruins, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Though coach Barry Trotz previously indicated Tom Wilson was free of any concussion symptoms, the winger's absence from Wednesday's practice suggests he might not be out of the woods yet. He'll be viewed as day-to-day for the time being, but will need to resume skating over the next two days to have a shot at playing in Saturday's regular-season finale against the Rangers.

Caps' Wilson Iffy For Wednesday

News: Tom Wilson, who was struck on his head by a puck on Sunday, is symptom-free and has passed all his concussion tests so far, the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Though Tom Wilson appears to have avoided a serious injury here, his status for Wednesday's game against the Bruins remains cloudy. "They did all the protocol tests," coach Barry Trotz noted Tuesday. "We're going to be 100 percent sure and there's no timeframe. At this point, he feels fine. He could take the morning skate and he could be ready to go. He really could. But we'll be 100 percent sure. There's no risk. We're not going to put our player or our organization at any risk for playing a player that shouldn't be in there. We'll see where he is tomorrow and go from there."

Capitals' Wilson Could Skate Wednesday

News: Tom Wilson (upper body) could skate Wednesday, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson left Sunday's game against Detroit to be evaluated for a concussion, and he's unsurprisingly now listed with an upper-body injury. The Capitals recalled Stanislav Galiev from AHL Hershey on an emergency basis Tuesday, indicating that Wilson and/or Eric Fehr may be in danger of missing Wednesday's game against the Bruins.

Caps' Wilson May Have Concussion

News: Tom Wilson was evaluated for a possible concussion during Sunday's win over the Wings, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Tom Wilson -- who left the ice after seeing 7:26 worth of ice time Sunday -- will be re-evaluated Monday.

Caps' Wilson Gets Assist Tuesday

News: Tom Wilson recorded an assist in Washington's 4-2 win over Carolina on Tuesday.
Analysis: The assist broke a six-game scoring drought for the pugnacious power forward, who is back on the fourth line after a brief, albeit recurring, stint on the top line with Alex Ovechkin. Alongside Michael Latta and Curtis Glencross, his fantasy value is limited to deeper leagues that count hits and penalty minutes unless his role grows over the next few games.

Caps' Wilson Tallies Assist In Saturday's Win

News: Tom Wilson netted an assist on Brooks Laich's goal in Washington's 6-1 victory over Buffalo on Saturday.
Analysis: Tom Wilson skated on the fourth line with the aforementioned Laich and the talented Evgeny Kuznetsov. While Kuznetsov is a more talented playmaker than is conventional for an "energy line", Wilson's fantasy prospects for this season remain limited as long as he's out of the top-six picture -- even if he does have two points in his last three games.

Wilson Nets Goal, Penalty Minutes In Caps Win

News: Tom Wilson netted a goal and 17 penalty minutes in Washington's 5-3 win over Columbus on Tuesday.
Analysis: Aside from his second goal in the last five games, Tom Wilson was again at the center of attention when it comes to physical play, as he fought Blue Jackets heavyweight Jared Boll following a heavy hit that knocked teammate Michael Latta from the game. While Wilson may get more looks at the revolving door of right wing alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, the situation is too fluid and unpredictable to start Wilson on every night, unless you are in a league that counts hits and penalty minutes. The situation continues to bear monitoring.

Caps' Wilson Ends Drought With Goal

News: Tom Wilson scored his third goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson has struggled mightily to work his way onto the scoresheet this season as the goal was his first since Nov. 29, spanning a stretch of 34 games for the young winger. The three goals match his total output from last season, but with just 13 points the 20-year-old doesn't offer much value to owners in standard formats.

Caps' Wilson Won't Be Scratched Thursday

News: Updating a previous report, Tom Wilson will not be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Senators, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After skating as an extra at the Capitals' morning session, Tom Wilson appeared to be bound for the press box. Instead, it appears coach Barry Trotz had a change of heart in the afternoon, as Wilson will in fact be in the lineup, replacing Michael Latta on the fourth trio. Though he remains active, Wilson's waning production (no goals, two assists over last 21 games) won't endear him to many fantasy players.

Caps Likely To Scratch Wilson On Thursday

News: Tom Wilson will likely serve as a healthy scratch Thursday against the Senators, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson didn't participate in Thursday's morning skate as a member of a regular line, suggesting he'll be sitting for the first time since Dec. 23. Michael Latta reenters the lineup in Wilson's place.

Caps' Wilson Registers Assist

News: Tom Wilson registered an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson hasn't played on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Niklas Backstrom since January, which has unsurprisingly resulted in a huge downgrade in productivity offensively. The 20-year-old offers some needed physicality for the Capitals on the fourth line, but outside of specialty formats, there's not much fantasy upside in that role.

Caps' Wilson Returns To Lineup Saturday

News: Tom Wilson will return to the lineup when the Capitals visit the Penguins on Saturday night, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson was scratched for Washington's previous game and had been benched for long stretches of play in the contests immediately prior. He's expected to return alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on the top line, so if he can find his scoring touch again, the former Plymouth Whaler could become worth owning in fantasy formats. Needless to say, he may be on a short leash with Trotz after posting only four assists in 10 games during the month of December. Lucky for Wilson, no one has outplayed him for the coveted spot alongside Washington's superstars, so the door remains open for the former 16th overall pick.

Caps Make Wilson A Healthy Scratch

News: Tom Wilson will serve as a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson will head to the press box for non-injury purposes for the first time in his career, as he drops all the way from the top line to healthy scratch status. The development was in the works after Wilson saw his time on the top trio highly limited in Monday's win over Ottawa, with coach Barry Trotz suggesting that the young winger was turning the puck over too frequently. Andre Burakovsky will replace Wilson in Tuesday's lineup, while Eric Fehr gets the much-desired move to the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.

Caps' Wilson Benched In Second Straight Game

News: Tom Wilson was benched more much of the Capitals' 2-1 victory over Ottawa on Monday night, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Analysis: This marks the second straight game that Tom Wilson has been removed from the top line, missing out on playing time with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. His ice time is down in the last two games as a result, and he is a source of frustration for head coach Barry Trotz, who commented after the game that "too many pucks are dying with Tom right now. Too many turnovers for me...[Tom] is going to miss some shifts here and there...". Wilson has just four points (all assists) in 10 games this month, and is in danger of losing his coveted position alongside Ovechkin and Backstrom. Keep an eye on his ice time moving forward, as solid hits and penalty minute totals may not be enough to keep the 20-year-old Toronto native fantasy relevant in most leagues.

Caps' Wilson Fights, Gets Two Helpers Saturday

News: Tom Wilson captured two assists and spent five minutes in the penalty box in Saturday's win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Tom Wilson has accrued an assist in three of his last four games, which looks to be enough to justify his stay on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom until further notice. His willingness to drop the gloves while remaining active offensively probably makes him deserving of wider ownership in fantasy leagues.

Caps' Wilson Captures Assist In Win

News: Tom Wilson picked up an assist and spent four minutes in the penalty box in Tuesday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: Tom Wilson is still skating for the Capitals in a top-line role, but with under 14 minutes of ice time in each of the last three games, coach Barry Trotz might be leaning toward reconsidering that deployment. Though he has assists in consecutive games, Wilson hasn't been scoring with much frequency of late. He's at least made up for it by averaging 3.24 PIM per game, tops among players who have suited up for at least 15 games.

Caps' Wilson Suits Up Saturday

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) saw 15:16 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: After missing the Caps' previous two games, Tom Wilson entered the contest as a game-time decision, but ended up seeing a relatively normal amount of ice time. Though he didn't record any points and finished with a minus-2 rating on the evening, he did produce seven penalty minutes and six hits to give some value to those who own him in specialty formats.

Caps' Wilson A Game-Time Call Saturday

News: Tom Wilson will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Blues.
Analysis: Tom Wilson will participate in pregame warmups before the team decides whether or not he'll suit up in the contest. He's missed the previous two games with the lower-body injury.
