Caps' Wilson Ends Drought With Goal

News: Tom Wilson scored his third goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson has struggled mightily to work his way onto the scoresheet this season as the goal was his first since Nov. 29, spanning a stretch of 34 games for the young winger. The three goals match his total output from last season, but with just 13 points the 20-year-old doesn't offer much value to owners in standard formats.

Caps' Wilson Won't Be Scratched Thursday

News: Updating a previous report, Tom Wilson will not be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Senators, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After skating as an extra at the Capitals' morning session, Tom Wilson appeared to be bound for the press box. Instead, it appears coach Barry Trotz had a change of heart in the afternoon, as Wilson will in fact be in the lineup, replacing Michael Latta on the fourth trio. Though he remains active, Wilson's waning production (no goals, two assists over last 21 games) won't endear him to many fantasy players.

Caps Likely To Scratch Wilson On Thursday

News: Tom Wilson will likely serve as a healthy scratch Thursday against the Senators, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson didn't participate in Thursday's morning skate as a member of a regular line, suggesting he'll be sitting for the first time since Dec. 23. Michael Latta reenters the lineup in Wilson's place.

Caps' Wilson Registers Assist

News: Tom Wilson registered an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson hasn't played on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Niklas Backstrom since January, which has unsurprisingly resulted in a huge downgrade in productivity offensively. The 20-year-old offers some needed physicality for the Capitals on the fourth line, but outside of specialty formats, there's not much fantasy upside in that role.

Caps' Wilson Returns To Lineup Saturday

News: Tom Wilson will return to the lineup when the Capitals visit the Penguins on Saturday night, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson was scratched for Washington's previous game and had been benched for long stretches of play in the contests immediately prior. He's expected to return alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on the top line, so if he can find his scoring touch again, the former Plymouth Whaler could become worth owning in fantasy formats. Needless to say, he may be on a short leash with Trotz after posting only four assists in 10 games during the month of December. Lucky for Wilson, no one has outplayed him for the coveted spot alongside Washington's superstars, so the door remains open for the former 16th overall pick.

Caps Make Wilson A Healthy Scratch

News: Tom Wilson will serve as a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Tom Wilson will head to the press box for non-injury purposes for the first time in his career, as he drops all the way from the top line to healthy scratch status. The development was in the works after Wilson saw his time on the top trio highly limited in Monday's win over Ottawa, with coach Barry Trotz suggesting that the young winger was turning the puck over too frequently. Andre Burakovsky will replace Wilson in Tuesday's lineup, while Eric Fehr gets the much-desired move to the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.

Caps' Wilson Benched In Second Straight Game

News: Tom Wilson was benched more much of the Capitals' 2-1 victory over Ottawa on Monday night, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Analysis: This marks the second straight game that Tom Wilson has been removed from the top line, missing out on playing time with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. His ice time is down in the last two games as a result, and he is a source of frustration for head coach Barry Trotz, who commented after the game that "too many pucks are dying with Tom right now. Too many turnovers for me...[Tom] is going to miss some shifts here and there...". Wilson has just four points (all assists) in 10 games this month, and is in danger of losing his coveted position alongside Ovechkin and Backstrom. Keep an eye on his ice time moving forward, as solid hits and penalty minute totals may not be enough to keep the 20-year-old Toronto native fantasy relevant in most leagues.

Caps' Wilson Fights, Gets Two Helpers Saturday

News: Tom Wilson captured two assists and spent five minutes in the penalty box in Saturday's win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Tom Wilson has accrued an assist in three of his last four games, which looks to be enough to justify his stay on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom until further notice. His willingness to drop the gloves while remaining active offensively probably makes him deserving of wider ownership in fantasy leagues.

Caps' Wilson Captures Assist In Win

News: Tom Wilson picked up an assist and spent four minutes in the penalty box in Tuesday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: Tom Wilson is still skating for the Capitals in a top-line role, but with under 14 minutes of ice time in each of the last three games, coach Barry Trotz might be leaning toward reconsidering that deployment. Though he has assists in consecutive games, Wilson hasn't been scoring with much frequency of late. He's at least made up for it by averaging 3.24 PIM per game, tops among players who have suited up for at least 15 games.

Caps' Wilson Suits Up Saturday

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) saw 15:16 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: After missing the Caps' previous two games, Tom Wilson entered the contest as a game-time decision, but ended up seeing a relatively normal amount of ice time. Though he didn't record any points and finished with a minus-2 rating on the evening, he did produce seven penalty minutes and six hits to give some value to those who own him in specialty formats.

Caps' Wilson A Game-Time Call Saturday

News: Tom Wilson will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Blues.
Analysis: Tom Wilson will participate in pregame warmups before the team decides whether or not he'll suit up in the contest. He's missed the previous two games with the lower-body injury.

Caps' Wilson Won't Play Friday

News: Coach Barry Trotz said that Tom Wilson (lower body) has been ruled out from playing Friday against the Devils, but remains a possible option for Saturday's game against the Blues, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Trotz indicated that while Tom Wilson is recovering well from the injury, he didn't feel comfortable with using the forward in back-to-back games. Though he'll miss his third straight game, there's a good chance he'll slot back in on the Caps' top line Saturday if he can make it through the morning skate without incident.

Caps' Wilson May Return Friday

News: Coach Barry Trotz upgraded Tom Wilson to questionable for Friday's game against the Devils, but the forward is still considered more likely to make his return to the lineup Saturday versus the Blues, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The Capitals seemed to initially rule Tom Wilson out entirely for Friday after he was limited to skating on his own the last few days, but his participation in practice in a non-contact capacity Thursday morning seems to have improved his outlook. Wilson acknowledged that while he was closing in on 100 percent health, it still seems more likely that the Capitals will hold him out to Saturday, just so he's not overextending himself by playing back-to-back nights right away coming off the injury.

Caps' Wilson Targeting Saturday Return

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) is hoping to return to the lineup Saturday against the Blues, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson was able to skate for the second straight day, but his lack of participation during practice will probably preclude him from playing in the final game of the Caps' homestand Friday against the Devils. Instead, he'll travel with the team for its three-game road trip, and could be available as soon as Saturday night if he's able to skate earlier that day without any setbacks.

Caps' Wilson Not Practicing Wednesday

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) didn't practice Wednesday, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Both Tom Wilson and fellow injured forward Brooks Laich were able to take to the ice for Tuesday's morning skate, but the absence of both from practice Wednesday would seem to suggest neither has been cleared for contact just yet. The Capitals won't play their next game until Friday against the Devils, giving Wilson another day to potentially practice and state his case for a return to game action.

Caps' Wilson Ruled Out Tuesday

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) will not play Tuesday against the Blue Jackets, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson was on the ice for morning skate Tuesday, but was limited to non-contact work and didn't skate on a regular line. On a more fortunate note, coach Barry Trotz did seem optimistic that Wilson would be a lineup option on Friday against the Devils if he remains on schedule with his recovery from the injury.

Caps' Wilson Misses Practice

News: Tom Wilson (lower body) did not participate in Monday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson left Saturday's game after pulling up on the forecheck, and is still feeling sore. Consider him a game-time decision for Tuesday's matchup with the Blue Jackets until we hear more.

Caps' Wilson Exits Saturday's Game

News: Tom Wilson left the ice with an apparent injury early in the second period with an apparent injury, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson pulled up grimacing while back-checking early in the second period and went straight to the locker room. Having been recently been promoted to the team's top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, Wilson was emerging as a sleeper across all fantasy formats with two goals and an assist in his last three games.

Caps' Wilson Promoted To Top Line

News: Tom Wilson skated with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on the top line during Tuesday's practice, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson found his way onto the line during Washington's 6-3 loss to Arizona on Sunday night and recorded two points. Head coach Barry Trotz appears to be inclined to keep that trio together as the Capitals look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Flames on Tuesday. Needless to say, should the former Plymouth Whaler stick with such offensively gifted linemates, his fantasy value would skyrocket. Wilson may be worth a speculative add at this point, as the situation warrants close monitoring.

Caps' Wilson Picks Up Two Points

News: Tom Wilson added a goal and an assist in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: Tom Wilson recorded his first points of the season in his third game since being recalled from the AHL. He may continue to see a decent amount of ice time, as he logged over 15 minutes on Sunday, but he likely won't tally too many points.

Caps' Wilson Back In The Fold

News: Tom Wilson (ankle) has been recalled from Hershey.
Analysis: He'll replace Chris Brown on the Caps' roster and make his season debut Wednesday against the Red Wings. Tom Wilson figures to fill a depth role in Washington again this season, likely shuffling around in the team's bottom-six forward ranks.

Caps' Wilson Eyeing Oct. 29 Return

News: Coach Barry Trotz acknowledged Tuesday that Tom Wilson (ankle) could return to the Washington lineup Oct. 29 against the Red Wings, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson, who was sent out on a rehab assignment at AHL Hershey on Monday, will play in two minor league games over the weekend, logging top-six minutes in each tilt. If his ankle holds up fine, Wilson will rejoin the Capitals for practice on Monday, when the team returns from its three-game road trip through western Canada. Trotz will then have to decide if he wants to slot Wilson back into his bottom-six, most likely at the expense of Liam O'Brien or Chris Brown.

Caps Reassign Wilson

News: The Capitals reassigned Tom Wilson (ankle) to AHL Hershey on Monday.
Analysis: Tom Wilson has been on IR with an ankle injury, and will likely use the stint in Hershey to get back up to speed. Expect him to be called back up to the big club when he's healthy.

Caps' Wilson (Leg) Could Return Next Week

News: Capitals head coach Barry Trotz indicated there was an "outside chance" that Tom Wilson (ankle) would return to action during the team's upcoming three-game road trip in Western Canada, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson (ankle) has yet to play this season as he rehabs from surgery to repair a broken leg sustained during the offseason. Although Wilson might "catch the tail end" of the trip, he is also just as likely to be sent to AHL Hershey for a conditioning assignment, so he's still a risk to add in single-season leagues at this time, although the time for his season debut appears to be drawing closer.

Caps' Wilson Won't Return Next Week

News: Coach Barry Trotz said that Tom Wilson (leg) will not return to action for at least two more games, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Wilson resumed practicing earlier this week, but it still sounds like he's a little behind the rest of his mates in terms of conditioning work. Look for the Capitals to send him to AHL Hershey for a rehab assignment before activating him from injured reserve.
