Oilers' Yakupov Returning To Action Saturday

News: Nail Yakupov (groin) will return to the Edmonton lineup Saturday against St. Louis, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov missed Tuesday's game against Minnesota with the groin ailment, but appeared to shake off the injury quickly. He returned to full practice Thursday without any issues, so he'll be cleared to slot back in on Edmonton's second line, where he'll join Teddy Purcell and Derek Roy. Yakupov was playing his best hockey of the season prior to the succumbing to the minor injury, producing four goals and five assists over his last eight games. Hopefully, the short absence won't do much to disrupt his rhythm.

Oilers' Yakupov Practicing Thursday

News: Nail Yakupov (groin) returned to practice Thursday, according to the Oilers' web site.
Analysis: The Oilers don't play again until Saturday, but a return to practice should be a good sign that Nail Yakupov will play. On the whole, Yakupov's play has been disappointing this season, but he had been heating up prior to the injury, producing four goals and eight points in his last eight games.

Oilers' Yakupov Day-To-Day

News: Nail Yakupov (groin) won't play Tuesday against the Wild.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov, who evidently suffered a groin injury Saturday against the Ducks, is considered day-to-day, with his absence from Tuesday's contest viewed as a precautionary measure. Though only a short-term absence looks to be in store, it's still a tough break for Yakupov, who had been playing his best hockey of the season with seven points in his last eight games.

Oilers' Yakupov Unlikely To Play Tuesday

News: Nail Yakupov (undisclosed) is unlikely to play Tuesday versus the Wild, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov is said to have "tweaked" something in the game versus Anaheim but no word yet on to what exactly is bothering him or how long he may be out for.

Oilers' Yakupov Leaves Practice Early

News: Nail Yakupov (undisclosed) was forced to leave practice early Monday.
Analysis: The Oilers are calling his removal from practice "precautionary" and will monitor him Tuesday morning to see if he is healthy enough to play later that evening versus Minnesota.

Oilers' Yakupov Keeps Streak Going

News: Nail Yakupov bagged two goals -- one on the power play -- in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has now run his point streak to five straight as he's having by far his most productive month of the season. Still, the 21-year-old has managed to see a dip in most of his numbers from last season's immensely disappointing campaign, and even with the recent outburst he has just 19 points on the season.

Oilers' Yakupov Extends Point Streak To Four

News: Nail Yakupov recorded an assist in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Senators, extending his point streak to four games.
Analysis: It's the second-longest streak of Nail Yakupov's career, but that's probably more of an indictment of his slow development than anything. Many were pegging Yakupov for a bounce back in 2014-15 after a disastrous sophomore campaign, but he's somehow seemed to regress even further. He's sitting on a minus-28 rating over 57 games, and even after the modest point surge, he's still scoring at a lower rate (0.29 points per game) than last season (0.38).

Oilers' Yakupov Gets Game-Winner

News: Nail Yakupov potted the game-winning goal on the power-play in Monday's 2-1 win over the Devils.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov finished the game with a minus-1 rating, bringing his total on the season down to an alarming minus-27, tied for third worst in the league. After flashing his potential in his strike-shortened rookie season, the winger has just 14 points through 54 games and has mostly let down owners who have still held on to him this long.

Oilers' Yakupov Picks Up Assist In Win

News: Nail Yakupov collected an assist in Monday's shootout win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov would later have his shootout attempt denied by Sharks goalie Antti Niemi, but it still amounted to a productive night compared to what the youngster has delivered recently. He's accumulated just five points across the last two months, showing limited progress in his quest to return to the form he showed as a rookie.

Rare Points For Oilers' Yakupov Friday

News: Nail Yakupov scored his fifth goal of the season and added an assist in Friday's surprising 5-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks. He also skated to a plus-3 rating.
Analysis: The lamp-lighter snaps a 14-game goalless drought for the former first overall pick. With just 11 points and an atrocious minus-17 rating in 42 games this year, Nail Yakupov hasn't provided much fantasy value regardless of league format, as he continues to frustrate those in keeper leagues in particular who cling to him hoping he'll somehow fulfill his potential.

Oilers' Yakupov Still Not Producing

News: Nail Yakupov only has two points in the past two months for the Oilers, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: On the season Nail Yakupov only has four goals in 41 games. That's incredible for a player who was drafted first overall in 2012. Yakupov has played on the third line for most of the season so he isn't playing with the most talented of teammates but that is still not an excuse for his lack of production. The Oilers have been giving him time on the second line and the second power play unit so perhaps his numbers will pick up but one has to wonder if a change of scenery would be best for everyone involved.

Oilers' Yakupov Has Ice Time Cut

News: Nail Yakupov saw his ice time cut in Edmonton's loss to Dallas on Sunday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has been an enigma since day one with Edmonton. He has the talent to be a top line player but has yet to put it all together. He has no points in his last seven games and only one in his last 18. He is yet another Edmonton player that may need a change of scenery.

Oilers' Yakupov Cashes In On Power Play Sunday

News: Nail Yakupov netted a power-play goal in Sunday's win over San Jose.
Analysis: A big goal for Nail Yakupov, who had gone 10 straight games without recording a point. With only four goals and eight points in 27 games, the 21-year-old is once again on track for another disappointing season. Unless things change in Edmonton, Yakupov has been too inconsistent to be trusted in fantasy leagues right now.

Oilers' Yakupov Set To Play Thursday

News: Nail Yakupov (wrist) is set to play Thursday against the Senators.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov took a slice to the wrist at the tail end of Tuesday's game against the Predators, but it wasn't anything that warranted much concern. While the former No. 1 pick isn't exactly lighting it up for Edmonton, his seven points and minus-4 rating over 16 games represent a drastic improvement from the woeful numbers he provided during his sophomore season.

Oilers' Yakupov Cuts Wrist

News: Nail Yakupov suffered a cut on his wrist at the end of the game versus Nashville on Tuesday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Although Nail Yakupov needed a couple of stitches to close the wound, the injury is not serious and should not keep him out of the lineup.

Oilers' Yakupov Could Move To Top Line

News: Nail Yakupov could move up to the top line for Edmonton, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: With Taylor Hall out for 2-4 weeks someone will need to take his spot on a line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle. Nail Yakupov was that person Saturday versus Vancouver and could be once again Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Edmonton Wants Yakupov To Shoot More

News: The Oilers are encouraging Nail Yakupov to shoot the puck more often, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: In the 10 games Nail Yakupov has played so far this season he only has 16 shots. The Oilers want him to start to think about shooting first and passing second. Yakupov has a good and accurate shot, something Edmonton wants to see Yakupov use about a half dozen times per game.

Oilers' Yakupov Nets First Goal Of Season

News: Nail Yakupov scored a goal in Saturday's shootout loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov gave the Oilers a two-goal lead with his marker early in the second period, giving him two points through the team's first two games. However, he skated only 16 shifts on the evening, finishing with 9:50 of ice time. While the lack of minutes could be something to monitor, it's encouraging to see the gifted Russian off to a respectable start this season. He contributed a disappointing 24 points and a horrid minus-33 rating over 63 games in 2013-14.

Oilers' Yakupov To Start On Third Line

News: Nail Yakupov will open up training camp on the third line, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov played mainly on the right wing last season but will be moved to the left side this season playing on a line with Mark Arcobello and Teddy Purcell. This is obviously not good for fantasy owners but this is also not written in stone. A productive camp could see Yakupov bumped back up to the second line.

Oilers' Yakupov To Switch Numbers This Season

News: Nail Yakupov will wear number 10 this coming season instead of 64, the number he broke into the league with, reports the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: Shawn Horcoff wore number 10 last season, but said Nail Yakupov could take it this season. Yakupov is looking to change things up this season and shake off a horrible sophomore season (24 points in 63 games and a minus-33 rating). He grew up wearing 10 and hey -- it's not like hockey players are superstitious or anything. His game will improve this season, but it won't be because of the number.

Oilers' Yakupov Back To Full Strength

News: Nail Yakupov (foot) is skating and fully healthy, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov was injured back in February when he took a slap shot from teammate Justin Schultz off his foot. If the season started now, he'd be ready to go -- now it's just a matter of him bouncing back from last year's brutal campaign.

Oilers' Yakupov Likely Out For Season

News: Head coach Dallas Eakins does not expect Nail Yakupov (ankle) to play again this season.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov recently suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury, so he will likely be held out for the rest of the season with the Oilers playing only for pride the rest of the way. The Oilers will be hoping that things finally click for Yakupov next season, as he will finish his sophomore campaign with just 24 points and an unsightly minus-33 rating in 63 games.

Oilers' Yakupov Suffers Setback

News: Nail Yakupov suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov's ankle swelled up Sunday just a day after skating during an optional practice. The Oilers have yet to release a timeline as to when he might return to the team but with only two weeks left in the regular season we may not see him again until September.

Oilers' Yakupov Has Resumed Skating

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) participated in an optional practice Saturday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has missed the last five games due to the injury and although the fact that he is skating is a good sign, he still needs time to get back into hockey shape. Yakupov has been a disappointment in his sophomore year with only 11 goals in 63 games.

Oilers' Yakupov Dealing With Ankle Issue

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) is on track to resume skating later this week.
Analysis: The report suggests that Nail Yakupov's injury is an ankle fracture, so while it's promising that he is expected to skate soon, it's unclear when he might be able to return to action.
