Oilers' Yakupov To Start On Third Line

News: Nail Yakupov will open up training camp on the third line, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov played mainly on the right wing last season but will be moved to the left side this season playing on a line with Mark Arcobello and Teddy Purcell. This is obviously not good for fantasy owners but this is also not written in stone. A productive camp could see Yakupov bumped back up to the second line.

Oilers' Yakupov To Switch Numbers This Season

News: Nail Yakupov will wear number 10 this coming season instead of 64, the number he broke into the league with, reports the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: Shawn Horcoff wore number 10 last season, but said Nail Yakupov could take it this season. Yakupov is looking to change things up this season and shake off a horrible sophomore season (24 points in 63 games and a minus-33 rating). He grew up wearing 10 and hey -- it's not like hockey players are superstitious or anything. His game will improve this season, but it won't be because of the number.

Oilers' Yakupov Back To Full Strength

News: Nail Yakupov (foot) is skating and fully healthy, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov was injured back in February when he took a slap shot from teammate Justin Schultz off his foot. If the season started now, he'd be ready to go -- now it's just a matter of him bouncing back from last year's brutal campaign.

Oilers' Yakupov Likely Out For Season

News: Head coach Dallas Eakins does not expect Nail Yakupov (ankle) to play again this season.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov recently suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury, so he will likely be held out for the rest of the season with the Oilers playing only for pride the rest of the way. The Oilers will be hoping that things finally click for Yakupov next season, as he will finish his sophomore campaign with just 24 points and an unsightly minus-33 rating in 63 games.

Oilers' Yakupov Suffers Setback

News: Nail Yakupov suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov's ankle swelled up Sunday just a day after skating during an optional practice. The Oilers have yet to release a timeline as to when he might return to the team but with only two weeks left in the regular season we may not see him again until September.

Oilers' Yakupov Has Resumed Skating

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) participated in an optional practice Saturday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has missed the last five games due to the injury and although the fact that he is skating is a good sign, he still needs time to get back into hockey shape. Yakupov has been a disappointment in his sophomore year with only 11 goals in 63 games.

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) is on track to resume skating later this week.
Analysis: The report suggests that Nail Yakupov's injury is an ankle fracture, so while it's promising that he is expected to skate soon, it's unclear when he might be able to return to action.

Oilers' Yakupov Out Again Saturday

Oilers' Yakupov Doubtful For Thursday

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) is doubtful to play Thursday vs. the Sabres, Jim Matheson of Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov sat out Tuesday's contest against the Predators with the ankle ailment, and based on coach Dallas Eakins' comments, he looks set to miss another game. The Oilers will likely have Anton Lander take his spot on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' line.

Oilers' Yakupov Won't Play Tuesday

News: Nail Yakupov is dealing with an ankle injury and will not play Tuesday vs. the Predators, Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Nail Yakupov looked to be feeling sick in the dressing room during morning skate, so it's possible that an illness is also contributing to his absence. Yakupov previously nursed an ankle injury in late February, but he only missed one game before returning to action Mar. 4.

Oliers' Yakupov To Sit Saturday

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) will not play Saturday against the Flames.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov took a slap shot off the ankle during Thursday's game and was forced to leave. X-rays showed no break, but he's not quite ready for game action just yet.

Oilers' Yakupov Has No Breaks In Ankle

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) said X-rays came back negative on his injured ankle.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov left Thursday's game after taking a slap shot off the ankle from teammate Justin Schultz. It appeared serious, but he said it is feeling better Friday and it did not show any breaks.

Oilers' Yakupov Suffers Ankle Injur

News: Nail Yakupov left Thursday's game with an ankle injury and did not return. He left the arena in a walking cast after the game, Rob Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov took a slap shot off the ankle from teammate Justin Schultz, and while the injury doesn't sound good, the walking cast could just be a precaution. An update on Yakupov's status should be available Friday, and the Oilers' next game is scheduled for Saturday against the rival Flames.

Oil's Yakupov Riding Small Streak

News: Nail Yakupov assisted on the Oilers' lone goal in Friday's loss to New Jersey, giving him a point in each of the last three games.
Analysis: It's a bit different when you're alongside players like Taylor Hall, but Nail Yakupov has responded well to his assignment with a goal and two assists over the last three contests. Look for Yakupov to continue to be a frustrating player to leave on your roster, but, if he stays on the team's top line, he can be useful. Remember he finished the season rather strongly as a rookie and could do so once more.

Yakupov Nets Game Winner, Oilers Win

News: Nail Yakupov registered six shots on goal and netted the game-winning goal in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: While the point is his second in as many games, it's the young forward's first goal in five contests. Nonetheless, he found the net late in the third period, notching his first game-winning tally of the season and perhaps some brownie points with head coach Dallas Eakins. Yak now has 22 points (11 goals) through 53 games played this season.

Oilers' Yakupov Bumped Up To Top Line

News: Nail Yakupov will play on the top line Thursday versus the Rangers, according to the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov and Jordan Eberle will switch spots with Yakupov playing on a line with Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. This could be just a one-game switch, and with the Olympic break right around the corner there is certainly nothing written in stone.

Oilers' Yakupov Posts Two Assists Monday

News: Nail Yakupov assisted on two goals in Monday's win over the Canucks.
Analysis: It's probably premature to say that Nail Yakupov has busted out of his season-long slump, but he's now managed to provide a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating over his last two contests. That sort of production should put him back on the radar in mid-sized leagues, but fantasy players may want to wait a little longer before buying into him fully once again.

Oilers' Yakupov Will Play Friday

News: Nail Yakupov (concussion) will play Friday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: As of Thursday, Nail Yakupov still had not been cleared by the league's concussion protocol, but it seems he passed the final tests within the last 24 hours. The 20-year-old has chipped in nine goals and eight assists so far this season, albeit with an unsightly minus-31 rating.

Oilers' Yakupov Skating Monday

News: Nail Yakupov (concussion) skated on his own during Monday's practice.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov is still under the league's concussion protocol and is only doing limited activities at the moment. The Oilers have declined to put him on injured reserve as of yet in anticipation that he might be able to return later this week, but he'll need to practice with the team for a couple days before receiving clearance.

Oilers Not Placing Yakupov On IR -- Yet

News: Updating a previous report, Nail Yakupov (concussion) has not yet been placed on injured reserve, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: In any case, it still appears safe to call Nail Yakupov "out indefinitely" while he remains under the league's concussion protocol. Should he fail to show much sign of improvement over the next few days, a move to IR would remain likely.

Oilers Place Yakupov On IR

News: Nail Yakupov (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: With Nail Yakupov in the midst of the league's concussion protocol, he likely won't be cleared for a return to action until next weekend at the earliest. The concussion is just the latest setback in an awful season for the young forward, who has just 17 points in 47 games to go along with a league-worst minus-31 rating.

Oilers' Yakupov Misses Practice Friday

News: Nail Yakupov (head) did not practice Friday.
Analysis: Given the possibility that Nail Yakupov suffered a concussion Thursday, the forward -- who sports an unsightly minus-31 rating -- looks pretty iffy for Saturday's game against the Jets.
