Rare Points For Oilers' Yakupov Friday

News: Nail Yakupov scored his fifth goal of the season and added an assist in Friday's surprising 5-2 win over the visiting Blackhawks. He also skated to a plus-3 rating.
Analysis: The lamp-lighter snaps a 14-game goalless drought for the former first overall pick. With just 11 points and an atrocious minus-17 rating in 42 games this year, Nail Yakupov hasn't provided much fantasy value regardless of league format, as he continues to frustrate those in keeper leagues in particular who cling to him hoping he'll somehow fulfill his potential.

Oilers' Yakupov Still Not Producing

News: Nail Yakupov only has two points in the past two months for the Oilers, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: On the season Nail Yakupov only has four goals in 41 games. That's incredible for a player who was drafted first overall in 2012. Yakupov has played on the third line for most of the season so he isn't playing with the most talented of teammates but that is still not an excuse for his lack of production. The Oilers have been giving him time on the second line and the second power play unit so perhaps his numbers will pick up but one has to wonder if a change of scenery would be best for everyone involved.

Oilers' Yakupov Has Ice Time Cut

News: Nail Yakupov saw his ice time cut in Edmonton's loss to Dallas on Sunday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has been an enigma since day one with Edmonton. He has the talent to be a top line player but has yet to put it all together. He has no points in his last seven games and only one in his last 18. He is yet another Edmonton player that may need a change of scenery.

Oilers' Yakupov Cashes In On Power Play Sunday

News: Nail Yakupov netted a power-play goal in Sunday's win over San Jose.
Analysis: A big goal for Nail Yakupov, who had gone 10 straight games without recording a point. With only four goals and eight points in 27 games, the 21-year-old is once again on track for another disappointing season. Unless things change in Edmonton, Yakupov has been too inconsistent to be trusted in fantasy leagues right now.

Oilers' Yakupov Set To Play Thursday

News: Nail Yakupov (wrist) is set to play Thursday against the Senators.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov took a slice to the wrist at the tail end of Tuesday's game against the Predators, but it wasn't anything that warranted much concern. While the former No. 1 pick isn't exactly lighting it up for Edmonton, his seven points and minus-4 rating over 16 games represent a drastic improvement from the woeful numbers he provided during his sophomore season.

Oilers' Yakupov Cuts Wrist

News: Nail Yakupov suffered a cut on his wrist at the end of the game versus Nashville on Tuesday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Although Nail Yakupov needed a couple of stitches to close the wound, the injury is not serious and should not keep him out of the lineup.

Oilers' Yakupov Could Move To Top Line

News: Nail Yakupov could move up to the top line for Edmonton, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: With Taylor Hall out for 2-4 weeks someone will need to take his spot on a line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle. Nail Yakupov was that person Saturday versus Vancouver and could be once again Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Edmonton Wants Yakupov To Shoot More

News: The Oilers are encouraging Nail Yakupov to shoot the puck more often, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: In the 10 games Nail Yakupov has played so far this season he only has 16 shots. The Oilers want him to start to think about shooting first and passing second. Yakupov has a good and accurate shot, something Edmonton wants to see Yakupov use about a half dozen times per game.

Oilers' Yakupov Nets First Goal Of Season

News: Nail Yakupov scored a goal in Saturday's shootout loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov gave the Oilers a two-goal lead with his marker early in the second period, giving him two points through the team's first two games. However, he skated only 16 shifts on the evening, finishing with 9:50 of ice time. While the lack of minutes could be something to monitor, it's encouraging to see the gifted Russian off to a respectable start this season. He contributed a disappointing 24 points and a horrid minus-33 rating over 63 games in 2013-14.

Oilers' Yakupov To Start On Third Line

News: Nail Yakupov will open up training camp on the third line, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov played mainly on the right wing last season but will be moved to the left side this season playing on a line with Mark Arcobello and Teddy Purcell. This is obviously not good for fantasy owners but this is also not written in stone. A productive camp could see Yakupov bumped back up to the second line.

Oilers' Yakupov To Switch Numbers This Season

News: Nail Yakupov will wear number 10 this coming season instead of 64, the number he broke into the league with, reports the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: Shawn Horcoff wore number 10 last season, but said Nail Yakupov could take it this season. Yakupov is looking to change things up this season and shake off a horrible sophomore season (24 points in 63 games and a minus-33 rating). He grew up wearing 10 and hey -- it's not like hockey players are superstitious or anything. His game will improve this season, but it won't be because of the number.

Oilers' Yakupov Back To Full Strength

News: Nail Yakupov (foot) is skating and fully healthy, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov was injured back in February when he took a slap shot from teammate Justin Schultz off his foot. If the season started now, he'd be ready to go -- now it's just a matter of him bouncing back from last year's brutal campaign.

Oilers' Yakupov Likely Out For Season

News: Head coach Dallas Eakins does not expect Nail Yakupov (ankle) to play again this season.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov recently suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury, so he will likely be held out for the rest of the season with the Oilers playing only for pride the rest of the way. The Oilers will be hoping that things finally click for Yakupov next season, as he will finish his sophomore campaign with just 24 points and an unsightly minus-33 rating in 63 games.

Oilers' Yakupov Suffers Setback

News: Nail Yakupov suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov's ankle swelled up Sunday just a day after skating during an optional practice. The Oilers have yet to release a timeline as to when he might return to the team but with only two weeks left in the regular season we may not see him again until September.

Oilers' Yakupov Has Resumed Skating

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) participated in an optional practice Saturday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov has missed the last five games due to the injury and although the fact that he is skating is a good sign, he still needs time to get back into hockey shape. Yakupov has been a disappointment in his sophomore year with only 11 goals in 63 games.

Oilers' Yakupov Dealing With Ankle Issue

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) is on track to resume skating later this week.
Analysis: The report suggests that Nail Yakupov's injury is an ankle fracture, so while it's promising that he is expected to skate soon, it's unclear when he might be able to return to action.

Oilers' Yakupov Doubtful For Thursday

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) is doubtful to play Thursday vs. the Sabres, Jim Matheson of Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov sat out Tuesday's contest against the Predators with the ankle ailment, and based on coach Dallas Eakins' comments, he looks set to miss another game. The Oilers will likely have Anton Lander take his spot on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' line.

Oilers' Yakupov Won't Play Tuesday

News: Nail Yakupov is dealing with an ankle injury and will not play Tuesday vs. the Predators, Derek Van Diest of the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Nail Yakupov looked to be feeling sick in the dressing room during morning skate, so it's possible that an illness is also contributing to his absence. Yakupov previously nursed an ankle injury in late February, but he only missed one game before returning to action Mar. 4.

Oilers' Yakupov Has No Breaks In Ankle

News: Nail Yakupov (ankle) said X-rays came back negative on his injured ankle.

Oilers' Yakupov Suffers Ankle Injur

News: Nail Yakupov left Thursday's game with an ankle injury and did not return. He left the arena in a walking cast after the game, Rob Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: Nail Yakupov took a slap shot off the ankle from teammate Justin Schultz, and while the injury doesn't sound good, the walking cast could just be a precaution. An update on Yakupov's status should be available Friday, and the Oilers' next game is scheduled for Saturday against the rival Flames.

Oil's Yakupov Riding Small Streak

News: Nail Yakupov assisted on the Oilers' lone goal in Friday's loss to New Jersey, giving him a point in each of the last three games.
Analysis: It's a bit different when you're alongside players like Taylor Hall, but Nail Yakupov has responded well to his assignment with a goal and two assists over the last three contests. Look for Yakupov to continue to be a frustrating player to leave on your roster, but, if he stays on the team's top line, he can be useful. Remember he finished the season rather strongly as a rookie and could do so once more.
