Oilers' Fasth Out Indefinitely With Knee Injury

News: Viktor Fasth (knee) is being listed as out indefinitely.
Analysis: With no timetable in place for his return, it appears safe to say that Viktor Fasth will not be activated from injured reserve when eligible Feb. 24. The Oilers will welcome back Ben Scrivens from a hamstring injury Wednesday against the Bruins, and he'll be in line to assume the bulk of the starts for the Oilers while Fasth remains out of commission. Richard Bachman will stick with Edmonton as Scrivens' backup.

Oilers Place Fasth On IR

News: Viktor Fasth (knee) was moved to injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The severity of Viktor Fasth's injury is still unknown, but by virtue of his placement on IR, he's have to sit out the Oilers' next three games, as he won't be eligible for activation until Feb. 24. Ben Scrivens, who had been dealing with a hamstring injury, was activated from IR to assume Fasth's roster spot. Fasth has been plagued by injuries throughout his tenure with the Oilers and has been horrible in his 26 games with the team this season, going 6-15-3 with a 3.41 GAA and .888 save percentage.

Oilers' Fasth Injures Knee

News: Viktor Fasth suffered a knee injury in Monday's shootout loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Per the report, the severity of Viktor Fasth's injury has yet to be determined, but fortunately for the Oilers, it looks like fellow goalie Ben Scrivens will be available for Wednesday's game against the Bruins, according to Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network.

Oilers' Fasth Hurt In Loss

News: Viktor Fasth allowed four goals on 46 shots before being helped off the ice with a knee injury in Monday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Jets.
Analysis: It was another high-scoring game for the opposition with Viktor Fasth in net, but he was tested heavily throughout. As of now there's no further word about the nature and extent of his injury, but the team should update his status in the near future.

Oilers' Fasth Leaves Shootout Early

News: Viktor Fasth (knee) had to leave the game early versus the Jets on Monday.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth was injured on the first shootout attempt while trying to make a behind the back save. He had to be helped off the ice. Unfortunately for Fasth and the Oilers, that save attempt was unsuccessful and was the only goal in the shootout.

Oilers Start Fasth On Monday

News: Viktor Fasth is slated to start Monday's game against the Jets, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth, who has dropped four of his last five decisions, will look to bounce back Monday after being pulled in the first minute of the second period of Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Senators.

Oilers' Fasth Gives Up Three Before Getting Pulled

News: Viktor Fasth surrendered three goals on 15 shots before he was pulled after in the first minute of second period in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Backup Richard Bachman came on and was equally horrid in relief, so Viktor Fasth's standing as the team's No. 1 goalie shouldn't change. That being said, Fasth is 2-4-0 over six February starts, posting a 3.72 GAA and .875 save percentage. Even in leagues that start multiple goalies, fantasy owners might be better off leaving a slot empty rather than deploying Fasth.

Oilers Sticking With Fasth On Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth led the Oilers on the ice for pregame warmups and will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Senators, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth will make his third straight turn with Ben Scrivens (hamstring) facing an indefinite return date. With save percentages below .900 in his previous three outings and an .889 mark over 24 games on the season, Fasth should be avoided even against a relatively low-scoring squad like the Senators.

Oilers, Fasth Get Past Montreal In OT

News: Viktor Fasth allowed three goals on 26 shots, but ended up with a 4-3 overtime win against Montreal on Thursday.
Analysis: With the win, Viktor Fasth snaps a three-game losing skid, but his inconsistent play and the Oilers' unreliable offense mean he's not a very reliable option even with Ben Scrivens (hamstring) sidelined.

Oilers' Fasth Set To Face Habs

News: Viktor Fasth is slated to start Thursday's game against Montreal, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth, who has dropped his last three turns, allowing 10 goals in the process, draws another start Thursday, with fellow goalie Ben Scrivens dealing with a hamstring injury.

Oilers To Start Fasth On Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease for Tuesday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: With Ben Scrivens out indefinitely after tweaking his hamstring in Monday's win over the Devils, the Oilers' net should belong exclusively to Viktor Fasth over the next several games. The team has generally employed a platoon all season between the two goalies, so this could represent the first opportunity for Fasth to make several starts in a row. That should give Fasth's value in an uptick in leagues that heavily weight counting stats, but it's hard to imagine the goalie offering much usefulness with his ratios. He enters Tuesday's match with a deplorable 3.34 GAA and .889 save percentage on the season.

Oilers' Fasth Takes Another Loss Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth was slapped with his third consecutive loss Tuesday against the Islanders, giving up three goals on 28 shots in a 3-2 defeat.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth's got the starting job in Edmonton essentially to himself -- Richard Bachman isn't much of a challenge -- while Ben Scrivens' hamstring has him out of action, but there's not much fantasy value to be found in the Edmonton crease.

Oilers' Fasth: 23 Saves In 5-1 Loss

News: Viktor Fasth made 23 saves in a 5-1 loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Analysis: Well, it sucks to be an Oiler and it sucks even more to be the guy who let the Leafs snap a franchise-worst 11-game losing streak. His season record isn't great, but three of his five wins this season have come in his last six starts. He appears to be trending upward, but just remember -- the Oilers are still struggling, so when they do, they allow too much unfettered access to the net. And that makes Viktor Fasth a fantasy risk even with his improved play.

Oilers Go With Fasth On Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth will earn a third straight start after stopping a respectable 57 of 63 shots over his last two outings, which came in tough matchups against the Sharks and Penguins. While Fasth's two performances in those games were nothing exceptional, they were at least good enough to keep the Oilers competitive, which is all the team can ask for at this point. While he's normally not normally a goalie fantasy owners should rely upon, Fasth looks like a relatively safe play against a Leafs squad that has dropped 11 games in a row, scoring one or fewer goals nine times during that stretch.

Oilers' Fasth Stops 24 In Loss

News: Viktor Fasth allowed two goals on 26 shots in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth has been disappointing for the Oilers this season, although Wednesday's loss was clearly not his fault. His save percentage on .892 is way below the league average, and will need to come up a lot if he wants to become a viable option for fantasy owners.

Oilers Roll With Fasth On Wednesday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease for Wednesday's game against the Penguins, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth has more than doubled his season victory total over his last four starts, winning three of those contests to improve his record to 5-11-2. He needed his offense to bail him out in two of those wins, however, so it's probably not reasonable to say that Fasth has turned the corner in what has been a miserable season. He doesn't make for an attractive option against an occasionally potent Penguins squad.

Oilers' Fasth Beats Sharks With 33 Saves

News: Viktor Fasth stood his ground for his fifth win of the season Monday, stopping 33 of 37 shots in a 5-4 shootout victory over the Sharks.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth's solid performance was punctuated by another 12 stops in a marathon shootout that was finally ended by the Oilers' Rob Klinkhammer in the 13th round. Fasth had actually been cruising with a 3-1 lead in the third before a three-goal explosion by the Sharks in less than eight minutes left the Oilers trailing by one. Nonetheless, the Swedish twine-tender has now grabbed three wins in his last four starts. That should help him get a few more nods in the crease over Ben Scrivens despite his still-ugly .891 save percentage and 3.31 GAA.

Oilers' Fasth To Start On Monday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease on Monday against the Sharks, Oilers broadcaster Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth will be back in net for the fourth time in six games, earning a win in the first two in that span. He'll carry a 4-11-2 record, 3.29 GAA, and .891 save percentage into Monday's contest, making him a risky play for fantasy owners.

Oilers' Fasth Plays Well In Loss

News: Viktor Fasth allowed just two goals on 29 shots, but took the loss Tuesday against visiting Minnesota.
Analysis: Ex-Oiler Devan Dubnyk stuck it to his old mates on the other side, ending Viktor Fasth's brief two-game winning streak. He's posted save marks of .925 or higher in three of the last four, but Fasth's body of work as a whole this year suggests that he can hardly be trusted by fantasy owners.

Oilers To Start Fasth On Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth will start Tuesday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth, who earned wins in the Oilers' final two games before the NHL All-Star break, checks back in with a 3.37 GAA and .888 save percentage overall.

Oilers' Offense Bails Out Fasth Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth made just 20 saves on 24 shots Tuesday in Washington, but rode some late help from his offense to a 5-4 shootout win.
Analysis: Awful nice of the Oilers to bail out Viktor Fasth after he left them in a 4-2 hole with the game winding down, and he actually has consecutive wins now for just the second time all season. Despite this relative success, Fasth remains tremendously hard to trust for fantasy purposes, considering his hideous season numbers and the Oilers' general struggles.

Oilers' Fasth Gets The Start Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth is slated to start Tuesday's game against Washington, Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth notched a 3-2 win in his his last turn, Saturday against the Panthers, but with a 3-10-2 record, .891 save percentage and 3.34 GAA overall, he remains a speculative play while tending goal for the last-place Oilers.

Oiler's Fasth Could Be In Line For Playing Time

News: Viktor Fasth could be in line to play more often for the Oilers in the future, according to the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth have simply been awful in net for Edmonton this season as neither has a GAA below three or a save percentage better than .900. Throw in that Fasth hasn't won a game at home and Scrivens has yet to win on the road and you're starting to get the picture as to why the Oilers are in the position they are in.

Oilers' Fasth Outstanding In Win

News: Viktor Fasth was remarkable in Saturday's win over Florida, stopping 35 of 37 shots in regulation, before denying all three Panthers' shooters in the shootout.
Analysis: It was the second consecutive solid outing for Viktor Fasth, who stopped 37 of 40 shots in a loss to Detroit last week. With Ben Scrivens struggling, having lost three straight games, Fasth could see some more starts in the near-future. While his 3-10-2 record, .891 save percentage, and 3.34 GAA is unappealing, Fasth is coming off two outstanding performances. It's the Oilers, though, so even if the 32-year-old does get some more time in the crease, wins will be hard to achieve.

Oilers Turn To Fasth On Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth hasn't played in over a week, but was uncharacteristically dependable the last time his number was called back on Jan. 6, as he made 37 saves in a 4-2 loss to the Red Wings. No. 1 goalie Ben Scrivens has lost three straight starts while posting save percentages under .870, so if Fasth can at least keep the Oilers competitive Saturday, he may be able to parlay the outing into an increased role.
