Fasth Stops 45, But Oilers Get Overwhelmed

News: Viktor Fasth made an outstanding 45 saves on 48 shots Thursday, but his teammates mustered only 17 shots and were shut out by Martin Jones and the Kings.
Analysis: Not a pretty picture for the Oilers as they approach the season's end, but Viktor Fasth can point to this outing with some pride despite taking his third loss in his last four starts.

Oilers Will Start Fasth On Thursday

News: Viktor Fasth will be between the pipes Thursday against the Kings.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins will split the final two starts for the Oilers, with Ben Scrivens getting the nod Saturday against Vancouver. The Oilers will use the performances of both goalies this season to determine a more clear-cut No. 1 option heading into next season, with Scrivens likely in better position for that role than Viktor Fasth at the moment.

Ducks' Fasth Stops 34 In Win

News: Viktor Fasth made 34 saves on 36 shots in a win over the Ducks on Sunday.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth got the win against how old team, but the presence of Ben Scrivens in Edmonton has kept Fasth from getting much more action than he did in Anaheim.

Oilers' Fasth To Make Another Turn Vs. Anaheim

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease Sunday against the Ducks.
Analysis: After taking the loss in his first star against the Ducks on Wednesday, Viktor Fasth will get a shot at revenge against his former team just a few days later. Coach Dallas Eakins is using the final few games to discern whether either Ben Scrivens or Fasth is a long-term option in goal, so look for both netminders to continue to swap starts.

Oilers' Fasth Falls Against Former Team

News: Viktor Fasth stopped 23 of 26 shots Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: Following the early-season emergence of rookie goalie Frederik Andersen, Anaheim deemed Viktor Fasth expendable, dealing him to Edmonton for two draft picks in March. For one night, the Ducks were proven correct in their assessment, as Andersen outplayed Fasth, stopping 30 of 32 shots to edge the Oilers.

Oilers' Fasth Will Start Wednesday

News: Viktor Fasth will start Wednesday against the Ducks.
Analysis: After missing the past week with a neck injury, Viktor Fasth will draw back to the crease to face off against his former team. A strong outing against one of the league's best teams could earn him a couple extra starts over Ben Scrivens before the season winds down.

Oilers May Start Fasth Wednesday

News: Viktor Fasth, who had been out with a neck injury, served as Ben Scrivens' backup on Sunday and could be the starter Wednesday against Anaheim, reports Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register.
Analysis: It's been a rough, injury-plagued season for Viktor Fasth, and it doesn't seem likely to get any better if he does indeed draw Wednesday's start against the far superior Ducks.

Oilers' Fasth Takes To The Ice Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth (neck) participated in an optional practice Saturday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth suffered the sprained neck after a collision during practice with one of his teammates. There is still no word yet as to when he will get back between the pipes for Edmonton.

Oilers' Fasth Day-To-Day

News: Viktor Fasth (neck, head) is listed as day-to-day by the Oilers.
Analysis: While we suppose that the day-to-day tag is somewhat encouraging, the report adds that Viktor Fasth is not likely to play against the Ducks on Friday.

Oilers' Fasth Has Sprained Neck

News: Viktor Fasth was diagnosed with a sprained neck after leaving Monday's practice.
Analysis: The Oilers seem confident that Viktor Fasth didn't suffer a concussion after colliding with teammate Anton Lander, but he'll meet with a doctor to gain further clarity on the injury. The neck sprain would seemingly rule Fasth out for a few games, with a more concrete timetable likely to come forth after the doctor visit.

Oilers' Fasth Leaves Practice After Collision

News: Viktor Fasth left Monday's practice after colliding with teammate Anton Lander.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth initially stayed on the ice for a few minutes, but had to be helped off shortly thereafter. It's especially troubling news considering Fasth had been slowed by a lower-body injury for most of the season, only to enter the mix for the Oilers' starting job after returning to full health a few weeks ago. The Oilers should provide an update on his condition in the coming days.

Fasth Yanked In Oilers' Home Loss

News: Viktor Fasth was pulled from the crease after allowing five goals on 16 shots in the first 27 minutes of Saturday's loss to Calgary.
Analysis: This loss won't matter as much in the standings as it will in Viktor Fasth's head. The Oilers' season isn't completely dead, but the copy editor is reviewing the obituary. Fasth and Ben Scrivens will likely share netminding duties from here on out, but the results probably won't help your fantasy fortunes.

Oilers Start Fasth On Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth will be between the pipes when the Oilers face the Flames on Saturday, according to Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels.
Analysis: The Oilers have already said that they want Viktor Fasth to be part of a regular rotation, so this would be his turn, so to speak. Fasth is currently 4-2-2 with a 2.43 GAA and .907 save percentage.

Fasth To Be Given Equal Time In Net For Edmonton

News: Viktor Fasth will be part of a regular rotation in net for the Oilers, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth is 2-0-1 since coming over from Anaheim and will be given the same chance as Ben Scrivens down the stretch to show the organization what he can do. No matter what happens during the final weeks of the season, Fasth and Scrivens are likely to enter training camp in September battling for the number one job.

Fasth Stops 28 As Oilers Beat Preds

News: Viktor Fasth made 28 saves on 29 shots in Tuesday's win over Nashville.
Analysis: That's his second consecutive one-goal effort and his second win in an Edmonton jersey -- he's now 2-0-1 in his three games with the Oil. Ben Scrivens has established himself as the top dog, but Viktor Fasth could carve out a role for next year if he continues to play this well down the stretch.

Oilers To Start Fasth On Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth will start Tuesday's game against the Predators.
Analysis: Tuesday's game will mark the first home start as an Oiler for Viktor Fasth, who has surrendered four goals over his previous two turns on the road for Edmonton.

Fasth, Oil Fall In Shootout

News: Viktor Fasth topped 22 of 23 shots in Friday's 2-1 shootout loss to Detroit.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth has started two of five games since his arrival in Edmonton and figures to see a handful of starts for the Oil as the season winds down. He won't have the insulation of an Anaheim team in front of him, but Fasth isn't a bad option in daily leagues for a spot start if the matchup is favorable.

Oilers Likely To Go With Fasth On Friday

News: Viktor Fasth is expected to start Friday vs. the Red Wings.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins hasn't announced a starter for Friday's game, but given that Ben Scrivens started a night earlier, Viktor Fasth figures to draw into the crease to relieve him. Fasth won in his Oilers debut Tuesday vs. the Wild, stopping 28 of 31 shots.

Fasth Wins Edmonton Debut In Shootout

News: Viktor Fasth, making his debut with the Oilers, allowed three goals on 31 shots and held on in the shootout for a 4-3 win over Minnesota on Tuesday.
Analysis: That's not going to make anyone terribly excited, especially considering how well Ben Scrivens has played with Edmonton so far. Still, it's a solid win for those fantasy owners desperate enough to roll Viktor Fasth.

Fasth To Make Debut With Oilers

News: Viktor Fasth will start Tuesday's game against the Wild, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: In doing so, Viktor Fasth will make his Oilers debut and play in first NHL game since Nov. 18, when he was with the Ducks. Prior to his trade to Edmonton, Fasth (who was previously slowed by a lower-body injury) was limited to just five games with Anaheim, going 2-2-1 with a 2.95 GAA and .885 save percentage.

Fasth Has Arrived In Edmonton

News: Viktor Fasth has arrived in Edmonton and could start as early as Sunday.
Analysis: The Oilers have done a solid job of upgrading their goaltending with the addition of Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth this season. Fasth could have a shot at the starting role should Scrivens falter but at this point in time he looks like the backup.

Ducks Deal Fasth To Oilers

News: Viktor Fasth (lower body) was traded to the Oilers on Tuesday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. The Ducks will reportedly receive a 2014 fifth-round pick and a 2015 third-round pick in exchange for Fasth, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
Analysis: With rookie Frederik Andersen playing impressively in spot duty behind Jonas Hiller, the Ducks didn't have much of need any longer for Viktor Fasth, who was due to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Instead, the goalie-starved Edmonton will likely allow Fasth to compete for starts with Ben Scrivens, who was inked to a two-year extension a day earlier. A persistent lower-body injury has limited Fasth to just five appearances on the season, but he was highly impressive in a timeshare with Hiller in 2012-13, posting a 15-6-2 record, 2.18 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Ducks' Fasth Expected Back Wednesday

News: Viktor Fasth (lower body) is expected to suit up Wednesday against the Canadiens, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth hasn't played since November 18, but will likely be available Wednesday. He won't necessarily see any action though, since he is expected to backup Jonas Hiller against the Canadiens.

Ducks' Fasth Continuing Rehab

News: Viktor Fasth (lower body) will start in net Wednesday for AHL Norfolk, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The game will be Viktor Fasth's second rehab start with Norfolk as he attempts to work his way back onto the Ducks' roster. Fasth allowed three goals on 32 shots against Albany in his first outing, and was saddled with the loss. The goaltender was 2-2-1 with a .885 save percentage and a 2.95 GAA in five appearances with the Ducks before being injured.
