Oilers' Fasth To Start Saturday

News: Viktor Fasth will get the start in goal Saturday against the Flames, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Fantasy players should avoid Viktor Fasth, and any Edmonton netminder, in just about any format at this point, as the team has lost 19 of its last 20 games and the high save totals are likely not enough to make up for the damage caused in the ratio categories. Fasth is an abysmal 2-8-2 on the season, with an equally dreadful 3.29 GAA and .888 save percentage.

Oilers' Fasth A Sieve In Relief

News: Viktor Fasth played the final 55 minutes of Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Coyotes, surrendering three goals on 19 shot attempts.
Analysis: Despite playing over 80 percent of the game, Viktor Fasth didn't factor into the decision, as Ben Scrivens immediately put the Oilers in a 2-0 hole before he was pulled at the five-minute mark. Fasth marginally restored order upon taking over, but with the Oilers mustering just one goal on the night, he wouldn't have a shot at picking up the comeback victory. The loss was the Oilers' fifth in their five meetings on the season with the Coyotes, the Western Conference's second-worst team.

Oilers' Fasth Yanked In Loss

News: Viktor Fasth was yanked late in the second period after giving up three goals on 13 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss the Ducks.
Analysis: The nightmare season continues for the Oilers and their netminders, who haven't been able to turn around a horrendous season that has them dead last in the NHL with a 7-18-5 record. Only two of those seven wins have come courtesy of Viktor Fasth, so we'd avoid him at all costs in all formats unless you're absolutely desperate for a spot start against a similarly weak opponent.

Oilers Roll With Fasth In Rematch With Ducks

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease Friday against the Ducks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth fared well in the matchup against his former team Wednesday night, stopping 32-of-34 shots in the 2-1 defeat. Keeping the team within one goal is good enough these days for an Oilers squad that has dropped 12 of 13 games, so Fasth will get the call in the rematch. He'll benefit from playing on home ice this time around, but Fasth's ugly numbers (3.11 GAA, .896 save percentage) on the season don't inspire much confidence.

Oilers' Fasth Solid In Loss

News: Viktor Fasth turned aside 32 of 34 shots but came away with the loss as the Oilers fell 2-1 to the Ducks on Wednesday night.
Analysis: There wasn't much else Viktor Fasth could do against the league's top team. Neither Fasth or Ben Scrivens have been able to help right the ship for the Oilers, as they're now losers of 12 of their last 13 games and sit firmly entrenched as the worst team in the NHL with 19 points. With that being said, it's difficult to recommend either Oilers netminder, especially when you factor in Fasth's .896 save percentage and 3.11 GAA.

Oilers Turn To Fasth On Wednesday

News: Viktor Fasth will be in the crease Wednesday versus the Ducks.
Analysis: After yielding the net to Ben Scrivens the last three games, Viktor Fasth will get the nod against his former squad. The Oilers' recent 11-game losing skid allowed Fasth to reenter the conversation as the team's preferred option in goal, but Scrivens still looks to have an edge over him for that designation.

Oilers' Fasth Flops Monday

News: Viktor Fasth was torched for five goals on 24 shot attempts in Monday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: The loss was the fifth straight for Viktor Fasth and the 10th in a row for the Oilers, who were beaten soundly by the Coyotes, who scored two short-handers and two goals with the man advantage. Fasth has seen more work in goal than Ben Scrivens of late, but both should be avoided if nearly any other starting alternative exists.

Oilers' Fasth Starting Monday

News: Viktor Fasth will start Monday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth has struggled lately, and is 2-5-2 on the season. He's currently in the heat of a competition for the starting netminder job with Ben Scrivens, so fantasy owners should follow the Oilers' goalie performances going forward no matter who starts.

Oilers' Fasth Loses Shutout Bid In Overtime

News: Viktor Fasth stopped all 24 shots he faced in the first three periods before Nashville's Filip Forsberg beat him for the winning goal in overtime Thursday night.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth did an incredible job of holding serve with Pekka Rinne and the overwhelmingly favored Predators for most of the night, but the game ended with the Oilers taking their eighth straight loss. If there's any silver lining for Fasth, it's that the sterling outing probably gives him the upper hand on the starting job for the Oilers at the moment. He hasn't been great in his last handful of starts, but the team's porous defense and tendencies to disappear offensively have been the more pressing problems during Edmonton's losing streak.

Oilers Going With Fasth On Thanksgiving

News: Viktor Fasth will be between the pipes Thursday against the Predators, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth has only marginally outperformed Ben Scrivens of late, but it will be enough for him to earn his third start in four games. He's still been an underachiever by and large this season, carrying a 2-5-1 record, 3.32 GAA and .893 save percentage. He'll have little chance at upsetting the Predators and Vezina Trophy candidate Pekka Rinne at their own arena.

Oilers Fall Despite Fasth's 31 Stops

News: Viktor Fasth allowed three goals on 34 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Dallas.
Analysis: A pair of Tyler Seguin goals in the second period ended up giving the Stars enough cushion to beat Edmonton, and Viktor Fasth can hardly be faulted for being Seguin's latest victim. Nonetheless, he's now taken losses in three straight starts and six out of eight on the season.

Oilers' Fasth To Start Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth will start Tuesday against the Stars.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth will start for the second time in three games in place of regular goaltender Ben Scrivens. He will take on a Dallas squad that lit the lamp 12 times over its last three games.

Oilers' Fasth Makes 15 Saves In Relief Duty

News: Viktor Fasth stopped 15 of 17 shots in relief duty Saturday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Starter Ben Scrivens was pulled after giving up five goals on 13 shots, so Viktor Fasth was thrown in to try and fend off the dominant Blackhawks. While it was Scrivens who was credited with the loss, Fasth is still winless in his last two starts and has posted a lackluster .890 save percentage and 3.337 GAA on the season. It's best just to stay away from Fasth right now, as the Oilers have lost seven straight and Fasth has done nothing to show he should start ahead of Scrivens.

Fasth Will Not Start Saturday

News: Contrary to an earlier report, Viktor Fasth will not start Saturday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The roster sheet distributed prior to the game incorrectly identified Viktor Fasth as the starter, leading to the confusion. It will in fact be Ben Scrivens, as the Oilers announced earlier in the day.

Oilers Decide To Start Fasth Saturday

News: In a last-minute change, the Oilers will start Viktor Fasth at goalie Saturday against the Blackhawks, the Chicago Sun-Times' Mark Lazerus reports.
Analysis: Earlier in the day, the Oilers said Ben Scrivens would start, but instead both Edmonton and Chicago made surprise goalie changes right before puck dropped. Evidently the Oilers have seen enough of Scrivens during his seven-game losing streak and opted to give Viktor Fasth another shot.

Oilers' Fasth Loses Friday

News: Viktor Fasth gave up two goals on 24 shots in a 2-0 loss to the visiting Devils on Friday.
Analysis: Although Viktor Fasth wasn't able to grab a W in relief of struggling Oilers starter Ben Scrivens, it wasn't his fault as Edmonton's offense was held off the scoresheet for the second time this season. Scrivens is currently mired in a seven-game losing streak, so there's a good chance Fasth will see his playing time increase -- with an opportunity to grab the starter's reins -- if Scrivens continues to struggle.

Oilers Going With Fasth On Friday

News: Viktor Fasth will be between the pipes Friday against the Devils.
Analysis: It's the first home start of the season for Viktor Fasth, who continues to remain in the picture for regular goaltending duties. Ben Scrivens is probably coach Dallas Eakins' No. 1 option for now, but that could easily change if Fasth enjoys a run of solid outings in the near future.

Oilers' Fasth Yanked After One Period Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth was pulled from Tuesday's loss against Nashville after allowing three goals on 17 shots in the first period.
Analysis: Ben Scrivens came in and stopped all 18 shots over the final two periods. Viktor Fasth looked like he was gaining ground on Scrivens over the last two games, but he may have at least partly undone that progress on Tuesday.

Oilers' Fasth Receives Another Start

News: Viktor Fasth will be in goal Tuesday versus the Predators.
Analysis: With Viktor Fasth guiding the Oilers to wins over the Sabres and Rangers in impressive fashion, coach Dallas Eakins will continue to ride the netminder while he's hot. Don't expect the run of success to last much longer, with Tuesday's road start against Pekka Rinne and the Central Division-leading Predators representing a tough task.

Oilers' Fasth Strong In Second Win

News: Viktor Fasth made 20 saves on 21 shots to lead the way to a 3-1 win over the Rangers on Sunday.
Analysis: With starter Ben Scrivens struggling in his past few starts, Viktor Fasth has been called upon to start three of the team's last four contests. He allowed four goals in a losing effort in the first of those three, but rebounded to allow just three goals combined in wins in the next two. Scrivens is still the starter until further notice, but Fasth could be earning himself more playing time.

Oilers' Fasth Starts Again Sunday

News: Viktor Fasth will make his second straight start Sunday versus the Rangers.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth played well in the Oilers' 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Friday and with victories being difficult to come by for Edmonton, coach Dallas Eakins has decided to stick with his winning combination. This could also be a sign that the team will ride the hot goalie in net rather than just go with Ben Scrivens game in and game out.

Oilers' Fasth Makes 29 Saves For First Win

News: Viktor Fasth stopped 29 of 31 shots for his first win of the year Friday against Buffalo.
Analysis: A good bounce-back outing for Viktor Fasth, who gave up four goals on 25 shots Tuesday against the Flyers. Although Friday's win came against the lowly Sabres, it was the perfect confidence booster for Fasth, who is now 1-2-1 on the season. Now fully healthy, expect Fasth to see his fair share of starts going forward.

Oilers' Fasth In Net Friday

News: Viktor Fasth will start in goal for the Oilers on Friday, Oilers' play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth was the likely candidate in net for the Oilers, who are on the back end of back-to-back games. He allowed four goals on 25 shots Tuesday against the Flyers, but will look for a better outing as he faces a struggling Sabres squad.

Oilers' Fasth Flounders In Tuesday's Loss

News: Viktor Fasth let in four scores on 25 shot attempts in Tuesday's loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Making his first appearance since Oct. 14, Viktor Fasth put the Oilers in an early 1-0 hole and was never able to recover. It's not overly surprising that Fasth was rusty in his return from a groin injury, but he was at least able to finish the game on a high note, saving all 10 shots he faced in the third period. While Fasth figures to see the occasional start behind No. 1 goalie Ben Scrivens, he's not viewed as much of a challenger for the top spot on the depth chart at this time.

Oilers' Fasth Gets The Nod Tuesday

News: Viktor Fasth will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Flyers, Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: Viktor Fasth will play Tuesday for the first time since Oct. 14, and he will take on a Flyers team that is averaging an even three goals per game through 11 contests.
