Bolts Sign Nabokov

News: The Lightning signed Evgeni Nabokov to a one-year, $1.55 million contract Tuesday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: The veteran netminder appeared in 40 games for the Islanders last season, but he'll head to Tampa Bay to serve as Ben Bishop's backup in 2014-15.

Isles' Nabokov Likely To Test Free Agency

News: Evgeni Nabokov and the Islanders aren't close to reaching agreement on a new contract, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: It seems likely that Evgeni Nabokov will test free agency. The Islanders signed Jaroslav Halak to be their starting goaltender so while there is no urgent need to sign Nabokov the team seems more comfortable with a veteran backup rather than going with an unproven younger net minder.

Islanders Are Still Interested In Nabokov

News: The Islanders are still interested in bringing back Evgeni Nabokov, according to Newsday.
Analysis: While the Isles wouldn't mind re-signing Evgeni Nabokov, it would be in a backup role. Jaroslav Halak was acquired Thursday with the hope that he can be signed before he hits free agency but even if that proves fruitless the Isles have no plans on going into next season with Nabokov as the main man in net.

Nabokov Stops 19 As Isles Shut Out Habs

News: Evgeni Nabokov stopped all 19 shots that came his way in Thursday's 2-0 win over Montreal. He also assisted on Brock Nelson's second-period power-play goal.
Analysis: In what's been a highly inconsistent year for Nabby, he's finishing on a somewhat high note, having notched shutouts in two of his last five starts while playing decently in the other three. He'll be 39 when next season starts and will more than likely have to settle for a backup role somewhere if he elects to continue his career.

Isles Go With Nabokov On Thursday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in the crease Thursday against the Canadiens, Marc Antoine Godin of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: After watching Anders Nilsson make the last two starts, Evgeni Nabokov gets the nod in what could be one of his final starts with the Islanders. The soon-to-be free agent has alternated wins and losses over his last six contests.

Isles' Nabokov Saves 28 In Loss

News: Evgeni Nabokov stopped 28 of 31 shots in Thursday's loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: For what it's worth, it's his first regulation loss since March 14, though he only made four starts in between, going 2-0-2.

Isles' Nabokov Falls In Shootout

News: Evgeni Nabokov took a shootout loss to the Capitals on Sunday, surrendering three goals on 29 shots.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov has shown improved play of late with three of fewer goals allowed in four straight starts, but he can safely be considered a lower-tier goalie at this point. In addition, coach Jack Capuano has been alternating starts between Nabokov and Anders Nilsson the last handful of games, making Nabokov most useful as a streaming option.

Isles' Nabokov Starting Saturday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will get the nod between the pipes Saturday against Washington.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov and Anders Nilsson continue to split the workload in net, as the Isles have used a soft stretch of the schedule to win five of their last six. Saturday's opponent may not be a bottom-feeder in the standings, but the Capitals are playing terrible hockey right now, and Saturday's game will be played in New York.

Nabokov Would Like To Re-Sign With Islanders

News: Evgeni Nabokov would like to re-sign with the Islanders, according to Newsday.
Analysis: If Evgeni Nabokov were to come back to the Islanders it would more than likely be as a backup as the team knows in order to become a consistent winner that they will need a more reliable presence between the pipes.

Isles' Nabokov Sees Little Work In Win

News: Evgeni Nabokov stopped 20-of-22 shots as the Islanders defeated the Panthers on Tuesday.
Analysis: The Islanders' 4-2 win over the Panthers wasn't as close as the score would indicate, as Evgeni Nabokov surrendered a Brandon Pirri power-play tally with just six seconds remaining in the third period. The veteran netminder remains tough to depend upon most nights, but he's still shown to be a worthy streaming option against bottom-feeding squads like Florida.

Islanders Turn To Nabokov On Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will start Tuesday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov, who gave way to Anders Nilsson on Saturday, returns to the Isles' net Tuesday for the first half of a back-to-back set of games that concludes Wednesday evening against the Senators.

Isles' Nabokov Loses In Lengthy Shootout

News: Evgeni Nabokov stopped 29 of 31 shots through 65 minutes, but ended up on the losing end of a 13-round shutout Thursday night in Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Coming off a 41-save shutout in his last start, Nabby did great work again in this one, but it wasn't quite enough to come away with a second consecutive win. The 38-year-old Russian hasn't managed to win two games in a row since Dec. 31 and Jan. 2; that remains the only time he's done so all season.

Isles Plan To Use Nabokov On Thursday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in the crease Thursday against the Lightning, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov turned in arguably his best outing of the season during his last turn Sunday against the Blue Jackets, stopping all 41 shots he faced to record his third shutout of the season. However, his overall middling numbers (2.87 GAA, .902 save percentage) suggest that Nabokov shouldn't be counted on to deliver a similarly strong performances with any sort of consistency.

Islanders' Nabokov Blanks Blue Jackets

News: Evgeni Nabokov stopped all 41 shots he faced in a shutout victory over the Blue Jackets on Sunday.
Analysis: This is a surprise from Evgeni Nabokov, as he's had a bad season, and shown no signs of a turnaround recently. This is just a fluke performance from a goalie on his last legs.

Isles Start Nabokov On Sunday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in goal for the Islanders when they face Columbus on Sunday, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Despite his recent struggles in which he's allowed 20 goals over his last five games, Evgeni Nabokov gets the nod against a tough Blue Jackets squad. He is currently 12-14-6 with a somewhat shaky 2.96 GAA and .898 save percentage.

Nabokov, Isles Fall Friday

News: Evgeni Nabokov allowed four goals on 26 shots in Friday's loss to San Jose, the second consecutive contest in which he has allowed four goals.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov has a 1-1-1 record over his last three starts, but allowing less than 11 goals in that span would be a nice boost to those opting to use the shaky netminder. The Islanders aren't in a position to give people reliable numbers from the crease, but Nabokov should still see regular starts down the stretch.

Islanders Go With Nabokov On Friday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will receive the start Friday vs. the Sharks.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov will benefit from facing off against perhaps a fatigued, road-weary Sharks squad that beat the Blue Jackets in a shootout Thursday, but it's still difficult to trust him to deliver a quality outing. He's surrendered at least three goals in six straight starts.

Islanders' Nabokov Stops 20 In Win

News: Evgeni Nabokov made 20 saves on 24 shots in a win over the Canucks on Monday.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov got the win, but he's still having a bad season. He has a .900 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA, and in his last five games, he hasn't had a save mark better than .897.

Isles' Nabokov Returns To Net Monday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be between the pipes Monday against the Canucks, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov's grip on the No. 1 job has taken a considerable hit recently, with Anders Nilsson starting three of the last four games, but Monday's outing represents a great opportunity for him to regain the trust of coach Jack Capuano. Like the Islanders, the Canucks are in free-fall mode, losers of 11 of their last 13 games, and they haven't scored more than two goals since Jan. 31 against the Jets.

Nabokov, Isles Fall In Edmonton

News: Evgeni Nabokov allowed three goals on 29 shots in Thursday's overtime loss to Edmonton.
Analysis: He did well to get the game to overtime, only to see Taylor Hall end things halfway through the extra frame. Nabby has won just two of his last 11 starts and hasn't so much as posted a .900-save mark in a game since his Feb. 4 shutout of Washington.

Islanders Turn To Nabokov On Thursday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will start Thursday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov, who was pulled from his last start after allowing five goals in two periods this past Saturday, returns to the Isles' net Thursday after deferring to Anders Nilsson in the team's last two games. As a team, the Islanders are last in the NHL with a 3.33 GA/G.

Isles' Nabokov Torched Again Saturday

News: Evgeni Nabokov was touched up for five goals on just 19 shots before he was mercifully removed after the second period in a 6-1 loss to the Devils on Saturday.
Analysis: Going back to the Islanders' first two games before the break, Evgeni Nabokov has given up a total of 15 goals over his last four outings. Although it would seem he has a stranglehold on the starting gig for the Islanders, that doesn't mean much with New York playing out the string on another losing season.

Isles Start Nabokov On Saturday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in net for the Islanders when they face the Devils on Saturday.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov didn't look all that sharp giving up four goals during the win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday, but he'll get the nod again here, nonetheless. The 38-year-old veteran is sporting a 11-12-5 record with a solid 2.78 GAA and .905 save percentage this season.

Isles' Nabokov Earns Win In High-Scoring Affair

News: Evgeni Nabokov made only 18 saves on 22 shot attempts Thursday against the Maple Leafs, but it was just enough for him to come away with a victory.
Analysis: Thanks to some help from a leaky Toronto defense that allowed two shorthanded goals in the first period, Evgeni Nabokov and the Isles were able to take the game to overtime. The goalie then picked up the win when Lubomir Visnovsky potted the clincher two minutes into the extra frame. Although the win was nice for Nabokov, he won't be as fortunate to benefit from strong showings like this by his offense every night, especially with superstar John Tavares out for the season. If fantasy owners can help it, Nabokov is only an advisable play primarily against the NHL's weaker offenses.

Isles' Nabokov Gets Starting Nod Thursday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will draw the start in goal Thursday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The break was probably much needed for the 38-year-old Evgeni Nabokov, who has battled injuries throughout the season and lost five of his last six contests before the Olympics. Now that the Isles will be without John Tavares (knee) for the rest of the season, it's hard to envision Nabokov finding the win column with much regularity the rest of the way.
