Bolts' Nabokov Chased In Loss

News: Evgeni Nabokov gave up four goals on just 13 shots before being removed in the second period of Monday's 7-3 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: With Ben Bishop excelling in front of him, Evgeni Nabokov hasn't gotten many opportunities to start this season. When he has though, the 39-year-old has struggled to the tune of a 3.15 GAA and just an .882 save percentage. Even though the Bolts are one of the best offensive clubs in the league, Nabokov makes for a risky play on days that he receives the starting nod.

Lightning's Nabokov To Start Monday

News: Evgeni Nabokov has been confirmed as the starter for Monday's game against the Flyers.
Analysis: As expected, Evgeni Nabokov will be in goal for the first time since Jan. 2. He's 3-5-2 on the season with a 2.83 GAA and .892 save percentage.

Nabokov Likely Monday Starter For Lightning

News: Evgeni Nabokov was the first goalie off the ice at the Lightning's morning skate, suggesting that he will start Monday's game against the Flyers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov's projected start Monday thus sets the stage for Ben Bishop to draw the nod on Tuesday against the Bruins.

Bolts' Nabokov Gives Up Two Goals In Relief Duty

News: Evgeni Nabokov gave up two goals on 18 shots in relief of Ben Bishop in Friday's loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Bishop doesn't usually have a bad outing, but when he does, Nabakov is there to step in. The 39-year-old backup was given credit for the loss Friday, putting him at 3-5-2 on the season. With a .892 save percentage and 2.82 GAA, Evgeni Nabokov's best days are long behind him. The Lightning are one of the league's best teams, though, so whenever Nabokov gets the call, he makes for a decent spot start.

Bolts' Nabokov Unlikely To Start Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will likely serve as a backup Monday against the Penguins on Tuesday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov and Andrei Vasilevsky were the only two goalies on the ice for morning skate, but the latter appears to be the option in net Tuesday despite an earlier report indicating otherwise. Nabokov will likely continue split starts with Vasilevsky until Ben Bishop returns from a lower body injury.

Bolts' Nabokov Can't Get Job Done Friday

News: Evgeni Nabokov surrendered two goals on just 18 shots in Friday's shootout loss to New Jersey.
Analysis: It wasn't a strong outing for Evgeni Nabokov, who has managed only one win in his last five starts. With starter Ben Bishop (lower body) sidelined, the veteran Nabokov is expected to split time with youngster Andrei Vasilevskiy. The 20-year-old made 23 saves on 24 shots in Tuesday's win over Philadelphia and is expected to start Saturday's game against the Islanders. Considering Nabokov's recent struggles, it's very possible the former Shark takes a back seat to Vasilevskiy while Bishop is out.

Bolts' Nabokov On Track To Start Friday

News: Evgeni Nabokov said after the team's optional morning skate that he would make the start Friday against the Devils, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: With Ben Bishop (lower body) likely out until at least Tuesday, the Bolts appear set to split the weekend back-to-back starts between Evgeni Nabokov and the newly recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy, who is expected to go Saturday. Nabokov's performance has been mostly ugly when called upon this season (2.99 GAA and .893 save percentage in eight games), so if Bishop's absence proves to be longer than expected, Vasilevskiy could end up serving as the team's primary netminder.

Bolts' Nabokov Allows Three In Relief

News: Evgeni Nabokov surrendered three goals on 21 shots after replacing Ben Bishop at the first intermission in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Bishop was forced out of the game with a lower-body injury, but the extent of it is unknown at this point. If he's out for an extended period of time, Evgeni Nabokov could be in line to take over starting duties in his absence. After Monday, the 39-year-old is 3-4-1 with a 2.99 GAA.

Bolts' Nabokov Moving Up NHL Career Win List

News: Evgeni Nabokov made 29 saves and picked up an assist in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: It was his 353rd NHL victory, two away from tying Kings' great Rogie Vachon for 17th place on the NHL's career win list. Evgeni Nabokov still isn't getting any scoring support from his teammates, but he has started to show he can brick up the twine tent until his mates actually do score. And this time, he helped out with an assist. Roll him in match-up situations. He's starting to have fantasy value.

Lightning's Nabokov Set For Thursday Start

News: Evgeni Nabokov is on track to start Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov was the first goalie off the ice following Thursday's morning skate, which lines him up to start Thursday night for just the second time since Nov. 18. He will have a favorable matchup against a Carolina squad that sits 28th in the league with 2.19 goals per game and has won just three of its last 13 games entering Thursday's contest.

Bolts' Nabokov: Good Game, But Tough-Luck Loss

News: Evgeni Nabokov was the tough-luck loser Tuesday in a shootout loss to Buffalo. He stopped 21 of 22 shots.
Analysis: Even more frustrating? The tying goal came with less than four minutes to play in the third. His game has eroded, but it's clear that Nabby can still deliver some value in select matchups. That is, if his mates also help him by actually scoring.

Lightning's Nabokov To Start Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in goal for Tuesday's game against the Sabres, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The first-place Lightning take on a Buffalo team that has the worst goal differential in the league, so head coach Jon Cooper decided to give regular goaltender Ben Bishop the night off and hand Evgeni Nabokov his first start since Nov. 18.

Bolts' Nabokov Played Sieve In Loss

News: Evgeni Nabokov made 31 saves in a 5-2 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday night.
Analysis: In better news, he did pick up a minor penalty -- oh yah, PIMs don't count for goalies. His numbers are putrid this season. Keep him on your bench.

Bolts' Nabokov To Get Start Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be between the pipes Tuesday against the Islanders, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: With Ben Bishop making a turn Monday night against the Rangers, Evgeni Nabokov will step in for his fifth outing of the season. The 39-year-old has been far from stellar with a 3.32 GAA and .874 save percentage, but the Bolts' powerful offense will usually give him a shot at coming away with a win any time he's on the ice.

Bolts' Nabokov Saves 28 In Win

News: Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves in a 7-4 win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Analysis: He's only started four games this season and he's put up decent numbers aside from the night he got pulled in Minnesota. But at this rate, he'll be lucky to get 20 starts this season. There isn't much value in that ... unless you're in a daily league.

Bolts Going With Nabokov On Saturday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be between the pipes Saturday against the Blue Jackets, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Coach Jon Cooper planned to give both Evgeni Nabokov and regular starter Ben Bishop a turn in either of the team's back-to-back weekend contests, and it looks as though Nabokov will get the easier matchup of the two. The Blue Jackets rank in the bottom half of the league in goals per game this season and have been downright dreadful defensively without Sergei Bobrovsky (broken finger). Even if Nabokov doesn't play well Saturday, there's still a strong possibility that the Bolts' potent offense could lead him to the win column.

Bolts' Nabokov Chased From Net After Four In First

News: Evgeni Nabokov was chased from the Lightning's net Saturday night after yielding four goals on just eight shots by the Wild. He didn't make it through the first period.
Analysis: It was all Wild, all the time. They set a team record with four goals in the first period and they spread it around -- every line found twine.

Bolts Go With Nabokov On Saturday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in the crease Saturday against the Wild, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: There was some thought that coach Jon Cooper might turn to top netminder Ben Bishop for both ends of the Bolts' weekend back-to-back after the goalie was rested earlier in the week, but Evgeni Nabokov's dependability might have swayed the coach. Nabokov has stopped 44 of the 47 shots he's faced (.936 save percentage) in his previous two starts, guiding Tampa to a win over the Flames and a close loss to the Devils. However, with the red-hot Darcy Kuemper in the opposite net for the Wild and playing better than any goalie in the league, Nabokov may be hard-pressed to come away with a victory Saturday.

Bolts' Nabokov Claims First Win

News: Evgeni Nabokov picked up his first win of the season Tuesday against the Flames. He stopped 21 of 22 shots in the 2-1 victory.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov has stopped 44 of 47 shots (.936 save percentage) while spelling No. 1 goalie Ben Bishop on a pair of back-to-back sets this season -- production that's about as good as the Bolts could have hoped to receive from their backup. The 39-year-old will be used sparingly this season, which may allow him to uphold respectable ratios while he remains consistently fresh.

Bolts Give Nabokov A Spot Start Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be in the net Tuesday versus the Flames, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov will make his second start of the season with the Bolts' concluding their back-to-back set Tuesday. Those back-to-back scenarios are likely the only scenarios in which Nabokov will receive starts this season, as the Bolts appear set to lean heavily on Ben Bishop. Nabokov performed respectably in his season debut last Tuesday against the Devils, stopping 23 of 25 shot attempts in defeat.

Bolts' Nabokov Makes 23 Saves In Loss

News: Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: He put in a solid performance, but Cory Schneider stymied Nabby's mates at the other end. Expect him to get 20-25 starts this season to spell off Ben Bishop. He'll have value based on the strong team in front of him, so roll him when he's between the pipes.

Lightning's Nabokov Set To Start Tuesday

News: Evgeni Nabokov will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Devils, Bryan Burns of the Lightning's official website reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Nabokov will make his first start for Tampa Bay with Ben Bishop getting a night off after starting three straight games. He will be tested by a Devils team that scored 11 goals in its first two games of the season.

Bolts Sign Nabokov

News: The Lightning signed Evgeni Nabokov to a one-year, $1.55 million contract Tuesday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: The veteran netminder appeared in 40 games for the Islanders last season, but he'll head to Tampa Bay to serve as Ben Bishop's backup in 2014-15.

Isles' Nabokov Likely To Test Free Agency

News: Evgeni Nabokov and the Islanders aren't close to reaching agreement on a new contract, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: It seems likely that Evgeni Nabokov will test free agency. The Islanders signed Jaroslav Halak to be their starting goaltender so while there is no urgent need to sign Nabokov the team seems more comfortable with a veteran backup rather than going with an unproven younger net minder.

Islanders Are Still Interested In Nabokov

News: The Islanders are still interested in bringing back Evgeni Nabokov, according to Newsday.
Analysis: While the Isles wouldn't mind re-signing Evgeni Nabokov, it would be in a backup role. Jaroslav Halak was acquired Thursday with the hope that he can be signed before he hits free agency but even if that proves fruitless the Isles have no plans on going into next season with Nabokov as the main man in net.
