Devils' Brunner Scores First Of Season

News: Damien Brunner scored his first goal of the season in Friday's shootout loss to Dallas.
Analysis: A terriffic outing from Damien Brunner, who was credited with a team-high six shots on goal in the loss. The 28-year-old now has three points in three games on the season. If he remains healthy, which has been a past concern, Brunner could net 20 goals and 40-50 points skating on the Devils' second line. Brunner is an elite sniper, whose consistency issues always seem to prevent him from becoming an elite fantasy player.

Devils' Brunner Notches Two Helpers

News: Damien Brunner picked up a pair of power-play assists in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Despite playing just 12:40 overall, Damien Brunner saw enough time on the man advantage to set up goals by Adam Henrique and Jon Merrill. That should help his case to stay in the lineup after being healthy scratched several times to start the year.

Devils' Brunner Likely Out Thursday

News: Damien Brunner isn't likely to play Thursday against the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner and Jacob Josefson were both left out of regular line duty in practice the last two days, suggesting they'll be bound for the press box for the opener. While Brunner offers more offensive upside in a bottom-six role than most players, it appears the more physical Jordin Tootoo is a better fit for what coach Pete DeBoer wants on his checking line.

Devils' Brunner Practices, But Won't Play Saturday

News: Damien Brunner (face) took part in morning skate but doesn't look as though he will play in Saturday's preseason finale, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner required stitches on his upper lip after taking a puck to the face at Friday's practice. While he'll be held out for the preseason finale, his status for the beginning of the regular season isn't in jeopardy. He'll likely fill a bottom-six role for the Devils this season.

Devils' Brunner (Face) Leaves Practice Early

News: Damien Brunner left Friday's practice early after taking a puck to the face, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: According to coach Pete DeBoer, Damien Brunner required a few stitches to close up a cut on his face, but the forward should otherwise be fine. DeBoer said he expects to have Brunner available for Saturday's preseason finale, though he could be held out as a precaution.

Devils Scratch Brunner Saturday

News: Damien Brunner will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Rangers, according to the Newark Star-Ledger's Rich Chere. This is the second-consecutive game in which Brunner will be a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Damien Brunner has a goal and three assists in the last seven games and is a bit perplexed as to why he is out of the lineup, noting he is still adjusting to the way the Devils play. Brunner has just two goals since his January 21 return from his knee injury. Compounding the situation for Brunner is the fact that he was told he'd play in Saturday's game after sitting out Thursday's tilt against Minnesota.

Brunner Busy In Devils Loss

News: Damien Brunner grabbed two assists in Friday's 5-3 loss to Florida, giving him three points in the last three games.
Analysis: New Jersey's first goal was originally credited to Damien Brunner, but replays showed in went in off Jaromir Jagr. Brunner has games where he is productive but he will also disappear for stretches.

Devils' Brunner Records Goal Saturday

News: Damien Brunner scored one of the Devils' five goals in their win over the Hurricanes on Saturday.
Analysis: The forward missed the Devils' first two games this month with a charley horse, but he's returned with points in two of his three games since. He's not bad roster filler at forward in deeper leagues while the Devils continue to thrive offensively of late.

News: Damien Brunner (leg) is in line to play in Tuesday's game against the Red Wings, Ansar Khanof of MLive.com reports.

News: Damien Brunner (leg) was on the ice for the Devils' optional morning skate Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Devils' Brunner To Miss Sunday's Game

News: Damien Brunner (lower-body) will not play Sunday against the Sharks, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner left Thursday's game early in the first period and was scratched Saturday as well. He is still being considered day-to-day, but expect the Devils to re-evaluate him to determine whether a stint on injured reserve is necessary.

Devils' Brunner Likely Out For Saturday

News: Damien Brunner (lower-body) was not out on the ice for warm-ups on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner left Thursday's game after just 1:35 of ice time in the first period. No further updates on his condition have been given, but not being on the ice Saturday is obviously not a good sign. Still consider him day-to-day until further notice.

News: Damien Brunner left Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets with a lower-body injury and will not return, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.

Devils' Brunner Quiet, But Seeing Chances

News: Damien Brunner has just one assist in the last five games, but he is seeing time on the power play for New Jersey.
Analysis: Damien Brunner has been remarkably quiet since scoring twice against St. Louis two weeks ago, notching just an assist in the five games since. He's been seeing time on the power play, including stints at the point. Brunner, surprisingly hasn't been shooting the puck much though, putting just four shots on goal the last five tilts. He's worth a look in deep leagues or a quick fix in a daily leagues on a night with a light slate of games.

Devils' Brunner First Star In Return

News: Damien Brunner, making his return after a 14-game absence, was named the game's first star in Tuesday's 7-1 win over St. Louis, totaling a power-play goal and two assists.
Analysis: One of the assists also came on the power play. The Swiss winger had been out since suffering the knee injury on Dec. 20, but went straight back to the high-flying offense he'd been flashing before he was hurt. In his last five full games, Damien Brunner's collected five goals and three assists.

Devils' Brunner Will Play Tuesday

News: Damien Brunner (knee) will play Tuesday against the Blues, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Previously listed as a game-time decision, Damien Brunner's return was officially OK'd after morning skate. He's been out since Dec. 20, but Brunner put up four goals and an assist in his five games before the injury.

Devils' Brunner: Game-Time Call Tuesday

News: Damien Brunner (knee) will be a game-time decision Tuesday against the Blues, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete DeBoer wouldn't commit to Damien Brunner suiting up against St. Louis, but it seems the 27-year-old winger has a good chance to play after receiving full medical clearance Monday. He'll need to be officially activated from IR prior to game time.

News: Damien Brunner (knee) returned to practice Monday for the Devils, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

News: Damien Brunner (knee) will resume practicing with his teammates after the Devils conclude their current road trip Saturday night, Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner just resumed skating Wednesday, but it appears the team is satisfied with his progress and will allow him to resume taking part in full workouts. Although Brunner will almost certainly miss Saturday's game, he could be back on the ice as soon as Tuesday.

Devils' Brunner Resumes Skating

News: Damien Brunner (knee) resumed skating in New Jersey on Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: GM Lou Lamiorello said the forward is ahead of schedule in his recovery from the right knee injury suffered Dec. 20. Damien Brunner is about three weeks through the four-week timetable originally established for his recovery period, but it sounds like he could be back in the lineup Saturday vs. Phoenix if he's able to clear some final hurdles.

Devils' Brunner Improving, But Not Skating

News: Damien Brunner (knee) is showing signs of improvement, but he has not resumed skating, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: At this point, it is uncertain whether the previous late-January timetable for Damien Brunner needs to be adjusted, but it does not appear as though he's going to return significantly ahead of schedule.

Devils Move Brunner To IR

News: Damien Brunner (knee) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.

Devils' Brunner Out Four Weeks With Knee Injury

News: Damien Brunner will be out for at least four weeks after suffering a knee injury during Friday's game, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Damien Brunner left Friday's game near the end of the first period when he was checked into the boards by defenseman Mark Fistric. He had to be helped off the ice by teammates. The initial word is that surgery will not be necessary, but he will need at least a month's worth of rest and rehab before being able to get back on the ice and into a game.

Devils' Brunner Suffers Lower-Body Injury Friday

News: Damien Brunner left Friday's game against the Ducks with a lower-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: The team is calling it a lower-body injury, but it looked like Damien Brunner's knee collided with Anaheim's Mark Fistric's in the corner. Brunner could not put weight on his right leg as he left the ice, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he missed additional time beyond Friday.
