Bennett Re-Signs With Penguins

News: Beau Bennett signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Penguins on Wednesday.
Analysis: Beau Bennett missed an extended amount of time last season due to a number of injuries, only managing to suit up for 49 of the Penguins' 82 games in 2014-15. In those 49 games, Bennett tallied four goals and eight assists for a total of 12 points. He will return to his bottom-six role with Pittsburgh in 2015-16. If he manages to stay healthy for the length of the season, his offensive numbers will likely increase.

Pens' Bennett Heads Into Offseason Feeling Healthy

News: Beau Bennett (upper body) said Sunday that he's fully healthy heading into the offseason, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The upper-body injury resulted in Beau Bennett being scratched for the final three games of the Penguins' first-round series with the Rangers, but it looks like he would have been a candidate to play had his team extended the series to six games. With just 10 goals and 33 points in 96 games over his three seasons with the Penguins, Bennett has yet to emerge as the top-six winger the team thought it had on hand when they selected him 20th overall in 2010. He'll be a restricted free agent this summer, but it remains to be seen if the Penguins will tender him a contract.

Penguins' Bennett Out For Game 5

News: Beau Bennett (upper body) will not play in Friday's Game 5 against the Rangers, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: The Penguins won't make any lineup changes as they face elimination, but Beau Bennett may stand some chance to return for Game 6 on Sunday, if the Pens win Friday night.

Pens' Bennett Set To Remain Out For Game 4

News: Beau Bennett (upper body) isn't likely to play in Wednesday's Game 4 against the Rangers, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett returned to the ice for the team's morning skate Wednesday after the injury prevented him from suiting up in Game 3, but the fact that he remained on the ice for extra work suggests he's not due for a return to the lineup. Instead, look for Scott Wilson to once again fill in for Bennett.

Pens' Bennett Out With Upper-Body Injury

News: Beau Bennett will miss Monday's Game 3 against the Rangers with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Scott Wilson filled in for Beau Bennett on the third line at the Pens' morning skate and will be called upon to make his postseason debut Monday. Bennett failed to record a point and put only two shots on goal in the first two games of the series.

Pens' Bennett Finds Net In Loss

News: Beau Bennett tallied his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Senators.
Analysis: It was Beau Bennett's first goal since Jan. 20, and just his fourth point overall since that time. The 23-year-old opened the season with hopes of snagging a top-six role for the Penguins, but his inability to get on a roll has kept him primarily on the team's third or fourth line. His utility remains limited to very deep dynasty leagues.

Pens' Bennett Shooting Blanks

News: After tallying assists in back-to-back efforts, Beau Bennett has been held without a point in four straight games.
Analysis: He's settled into a third-line role in recent games and has been bumped off the power play. The young player hasn't lit up the score board lately, but at least the Pens haven't made him a healthy scratch. His inconsistent production makes the winger a risky fantasy proposition at this stage of his career.

Pens' Bennett Comes Up Big Sunday

News: Beau Bennett assisted on Pittsburgh's lone goal Sunday, taking a career-high nine shots on goal against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The game was likely Beau Bennett's best in his young career. Coach Mike Johnston didn't skate him in overtime, so the team still doesn't have full confidence in him, but he's on the right path after recently sitting out four games as a healthy scratch.

Pens' Bennett Scores Rare Point Thursday

News: Beau Bennett picked up an assist in a 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa on Thursday.
Analysis: The point was Beau Bennett's second in 11 games. Before Wednesday, the winger served as a healthy scratch four times in five games. It appears as though he's found a home on the third line with Brandon Sutter and Nick Spaling, though coach Mike Johnston may deploy him more against skilled teams and sit him against gritty opponents.

Pens' Bennett To Play Wednesday Against Wings

News: Beau Bennett will play on the third line Wednesday against Detroit.
Analysis: The oft-scratched Beau Bennett will be centered by Brandon Sutter, with Nick Spaling skating left wing. He hasn't played since Feb. 1 against Nashville.

Pens' Bennett Expected To Sit Wednesday

News: Beau Bennett is set to serve as a healthy scratch for the fifth time in the Pens' last six games Wednesday.
Analysis: The team is dissatisfied with his compete level, especially in 1-on-1 battles along the boards. Of course, Beau Bennett is more of a skilled player, making it surprising that Pittsburgh is focusing so much on the gritty side of things. The expected return of Blake Comeau Wednesday pushes Bennett further down the depth chart in the short term. A trade or demotion might be in the offing if he remains out much longer.

Pens' Bennett Expected Back Friday Or Saturday

News: Beau Bennett is expected to play in one of Pittsburgh's next two games during its Western Canada road swing.
Analysis: Even though Beau Bennett is in the doghouse right now, the former first-round pick has totaled just 67 games in the NHL, making it far too early to give up on him. He's served as a healthy scratch in two of the team's last three contests.

Pens' Bennett Out Wednesday

News: Beau Bennett is expected to serve as a healthy scratch Wednesday for the second time in three games, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The Penguins are looking for the talented forward to do the dirty work along the boards, something he hasn't shown a willingness to do lately. If the Penguins beat the Oilers on Wednesday, there's a chance the team could go with the same lineup Friday.

Pens' Bennett Back Sunday

News: Beau Bennett will return to the lineup Sunday afternoon following a one-game benching.
Analysis: Beau Bennett has but one goal in his last eight games. Health has always been a concern, but the winger played in 12 straight games before sitting out Friday. He's expected to serve as a left winger on a third line centered by Maxim Lapierre with Steve Downie.

Pens Make Bennett A Healthy Scratch

News: Beau Bennett will be a healthy scratch for the first time in his career Friday against the Devils.
Analysis: Beau Bennett skated as an extra during Friday's morning session, with Mark Arcobello rejoining the lineup in his stead. Coach Mike Johnston has expressed disappointment with Bennett's play of late, which has been reflected in his declining point totals. He's mustered a lone goal over his last eight games.

Pens' Bennett Breaks Slump Tuesday

News: Beau Bennett snapped a four-game pointless streak Tuesday, potting his third goal of the season against the Flyers.
Analysis: He converted a pretty pass from linemate Evgeni Malkin for the score. Beau Bennett, who saw 5:33 TOI on the Pens' No. 2 PP unit, now has three goals and eight points in 16 games.

Bennett Playing With Pen's Malkin

News: Beau Bennett, who skated with Evgeni Malkin and Nick Spaling on Saturday, was held pointless with three shots, two hits and a plus-1 rating in Montreal.
Analysis: His biggest achievement Saturday just might have been playing in his fifth straight contest -- health has eluded the talented winger. Beau Bennett figures to skate top-six for at least a couple more weeks (if not longer), especially with Patric Hornqvist still out. Ultimately he could return to the third line with Brandon Sutter, as Pens' coach Mike Johnston has an unhealthy fascination of the two playing together, but for now he's likely to continue skating with the red-hot Russian.

Pens' Bennett Gets Two Assists In Return

News: Beau Bennett dished out a pair of assists in Wednesday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Beau Bennett, who was making his first appearance in 16 games after recovering from a knee injury, was credited with the primary helpers on the Pens' only goals of the game. He's been incredibly injury-prone over the past two seasons, but it hasn't soured the Penguins on the idea of trying to find a top-six role for him. He saw 17:29 of ice time Wednesday, including 3:16 on the power play.

Pens' Bennett (Knee) Activated From IR

News: Beau Bennett (knee) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday, signaling he'll play later in the evening against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: After practicing fully with the Penguins on Tuesday, Beau Bennett was present for the team's optional skate Wednesday, which was enough for the team to sign off on his activation. Bennett, who also battled the mumps virus while rehabbing the knee injury, is expected to slot in on the second line with Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter.

Pens' Bennett Optimistic About Wednesday

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is optimistic about his chances of playing Wednesday versus the Hurricanes. "I feel good...hopefully I can get out there [Wednesday] night," Bennett said after Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: Beau Bennett took part in line rushes with the Penguins during the session, which would normally seem to indicate that he's ready to play. However, because Bennett has been out over a month with the knee injury and also battled the mumps along the way, the Penguins may want to get him a little more practice time before activating him. Though Bennett isn't a premier offensive threat for the Penguins, his return would be a welcome development for a club that's been absolutely ravaged by injuries at the forward spot.

Pens' Bennett Back Wednesday?

News: Beau Bennett (knee) will not play Monday but could return as soon as Wednesday.
Analysis: Pens coach Mike Johnston said that Beau Bennett needed at least three practices before returning to action (and Monday was his third). If the highly-talented but injury-prone forward returns Wednesday, that would give him three games played for Week 13.

Pens' Bennett (Knee) Skates Sunday

News: Beau Bennett (knee) practiced for a second straight day Sunday, but has no set date to return.
Analysis: Beau Bennett's status moving forward appears cloudy, and while he hasn't been ruled out Monday, the report seems to hint that he's doubtful for the contest. If he can't play, his next chance to return would be Wednesday against the Hurricanes.

Pens' Bennett Skates Saturday

News: Beau Bennett (knee, mumps) took part in Pittsburgh's gameday skate Saturday.
Analysis: He remains on injured reserve and won't play in Saturday's game against Washington, if only because he didn't skate on one of the team's four lines during practice. The good news is that Beau Bennett is past the mumps and appears close to rejoining the lineup, which could occur as soon as Monday.

Pens' Bennett Diagnosed With Mumps

News: Beau Bennett (knee) was diagnosed with the mumps virus Tuesday, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett becomes the 14th NHL player confirmed as having the illness, and the second Penguin after Sidney Crosby was determined to have the virus over the weekend. Bennett is dealing with a knee injury that seemingly represents a greater worry for him than the mumps -- which has symptoms that typically last for about a week -- but it's yet another reminder that the debilitating virus continues to menace the entire league and might not go away anytime soon.

Pens' Bennett May Have Mumps

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is showing mumps symptoms, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett is still on IR with the knee injury, but it's a bad sign that he may have the mumps as well. The team has quarantined him for now, but keep an eye out for another update on his status soon.
