Pens' Bennett Breaks Slump Tuesday

News: Beau Bennett snapped a four-game pointless streak Tuesday, potting his third goal of the season against the Flyers.
Analysis: He converted a pretty pass from linemate Evgeni Malkin for the score. Beau Bennett, who saw 5:33 TOI on the Pens' No. 2 PP unit, now has three goals and eight points in 16 games.

Bennett Playing With Pen's Malkin

News: Beau Bennett, who skated with Evgeni Malkin and Nick Spaling on Saturday, was held pointless with three shots, two hits and a plus-1 rating in Montreal.
Analysis: His biggest achievement Saturday just might have been playing in his fifth straight contest -- health has eluded the talented winger. Beau Bennett figures to skate top-six for at least a couple more weeks (if not longer), especially with Patric Hornqvist still out. Ultimately he could return to the third line with Brandon Sutter, as Pens' coach Mike Johnston has an unhealthy fascination of the two playing together, but for now he's likely to continue skating with the red-hot Russian.

Pens' Bennett Gets Two Assists In Return

News: Beau Bennett dished out a pair of assists in Wednesday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Beau Bennett, who was making his first appearance in 16 games after recovering from a knee injury, was credited with the primary helpers on the Pens' only goals of the game. He's been incredibly injury-prone over the past two seasons, but it hasn't soured the Penguins on the idea of trying to find a top-six role for him. He saw 17:29 of ice time Wednesday, including 3:16 on the power play.

Pens' Bennett (Knee) Activated From IR

News: Beau Bennett (knee) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday, signaling he'll play later in the evening against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: After practicing fully with the Penguins on Tuesday, Beau Bennett was present for the team's optional skate Wednesday, which was enough for the team to sign off on his activation. Bennett, who also battled the mumps virus while rehabbing the knee injury, is expected to slot in on the second line with Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter.

Pens' Bennett Optimistic About Wednesday

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is optimistic about his chances of playing Wednesday versus the Hurricanes. "I feel good...hopefully I can get out there [Wednesday] night," Bennett said after Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: Beau Bennett took part in line rushes with the Penguins during the session, which would normally seem to indicate that he's ready to play. However, because Bennett has been out over a month with the knee injury and also battled the mumps along the way, the Penguins may want to get him a little more practice time before activating him. Though Bennett isn't a premier offensive threat for the Penguins, his return would be a welcome development for a club that's been absolutely ravaged by injuries at the forward spot.

Pens' Bennett Back Wednesday?

News: Beau Bennett (knee) will not play Monday but could return as soon as Wednesday.
Analysis: Pens coach Mike Johnston said that Beau Bennett needed at least three practices before returning to action (and Monday was his third). If the highly-talented but injury-prone forward returns Wednesday, that would give him three games played for Week 13.

Pens' Bennett (Knee) Skates Sunday

News: Beau Bennett (knee) practiced for a second straight day Sunday, but has no set date to return.
Analysis: Beau Bennett's status moving forward appears cloudy, and while he hasn't been ruled out Monday, the report seems to hint that he's doubtful for the contest. If he can't play, his next chance to return would be Wednesday against the Hurricanes.

Pens' Bennett Skates Saturday

News: Beau Bennett (knee, mumps) took part in Pittsburgh's gameday skate Saturday.
Analysis: He remains on injured reserve and won't play in Saturday's game against Washington, if only because he didn't skate on one of the team's four lines during practice. The good news is that Beau Bennett is past the mumps and appears close to rejoining the lineup, which could occur as soon as Monday.

Pens' Bennett Diagnosed With Mumps

News: Beau Bennett (knee) was diagnosed with the mumps virus Tuesday, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett becomes the 14th NHL player confirmed as having the illness, and the second Penguin after Sidney Crosby was determined to have the virus over the weekend. Bennett is dealing with a knee injury that seemingly represents a greater worry for him than the mumps -- which has symptoms that typically last for about a week -- but it's yet another reminder that the debilitating virus continues to menace the entire league and might not go away anytime soon.

Pens' Bennett May Have Mumps

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is showing mumps symptoms, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett is still on IR with the knee injury, but it's a bad sign that he may have the mumps as well. The team has quarantined him for now, but keep an eye out for another update on his status soon.

Pens' Bennett Gets In Skate

News: Beau Bennett (knee) took to the ice on his own prior to Friday's morning skate, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston said that Beau Bennett's session was "very preliminary," indicating that a return is by no means forthcoming. Until he starts practicing with teammates for a few days in a row, Bennett should be viewed as out indefinitely.

Bennett Still Not Skating With Team

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is progressing slowly and is still unable to practice with the team.
Analysis: He was initially expected to miss only two weeks, but the brittle Beau Bennett is going on three weeks since suiting up (Nov. 24). Coach Mike Johnston did not sound optimistic about the forward returning any time soon.

Penguins' Bennett Lands On Injured Reserve

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is now listed on injured reserve, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett is not on the verge of returning, so he was placed on injured reserve to open up a roster spot. He has already been sidelined over a week, so he will be eligible to return whenever the Penguins determine he is ready to get back on the ice.

Pens' Bennett Out Two Weeks

News: Beau Bennett will miss two weeks with a lower-body injury suffered against the Bruins on Monday.
Analysis: Replays appeared to show the winger twisting his surgically-repaired right knee in a collision Monday, making it likely that he might have aggravated something. The Penguins recalled Jayson Megna recently, and it appears as though he'll assume Beau Bennett's lineup spot in the interim.

Pens' Bennett Misses Wednesday's Morning Skate

News: Beau Bennett (knee) is not taking part in the Pens' game-day skate Wednesday.
Analysis: The Penguins will address the severity of Beau Bennett's knee injury -- suffered Monday against Boston -- later in the day. The winger has shown flashes of excellence when healthy, but hasn't been able to stay on the ice.

Penguins' Bennett Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: Beau Bennett did not take part in Tuesday's practice due to a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Beau Bennett suffered what appeared to be a knee injury Monday; and although he was able to return to the game, it appears he was still feeling some soreness Tuesday morning. The full extent of Bennett's injury is uncertain, but the Penguins should have a better idea about his status after he is evaluated over the next 24 hours.

Pens' Bennett Finishes Monday's Game Playing Hurt

News: After leaving the second period of Monday's tilt against Boston, Beau Bennett (knee) skated only four shifts for 2:22 of ice time in the third period.
Analysis: He looked tentative on the ice and appeared to be playing at less than 100 percent. It wouldn't be surprising to see Beau Bennett sit out Wednesday, though the team is already down a quality forward in Pascal Dupuis. Bennett recently said he didn't trust his knee, and Monday will do little to instill confidence in the injury-jinxed forward.

Penguins' Bennett (Knee) Returns To Ice Monday

News: Beau Bennett returned to the ice in the third period of Monday's game against the Bruins despite spending time in the locker room with an apparent right knee injury.
Analysis: Beau Bennett's injury must not have been concerning enough to stay off the ice for the rest of the night. His ability to stay on the ice Monday suggests that he'll have no problem playing the Maple Leafs come Wednesday.

Penguins' Bennett Leaves Game Monday

News: Beau Bennett left Monday's game against the Bruins with an apparent right knee injury, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett has already missed the majority of the season thus far with a left knee injury, and now he's hurt the other one. It's currently indeterminate whether he'll return to the game. Either way, he should be considered day-to-day until further information is released.

Pens' Bennett Breaks Mental Barrier Tuesday

News: Beau Bennett picked up his first three points of the season Tuesday, netting the game-winning goal and two assists against the Canadiens.
Analysis: The winger noted Monday he wasn't "mentally" past his recent knee injury, and a scoreless effort in his first three games backed the statement up. No longer. The three-point effort Tuesday was Beau Bennett's first at the NHL level, as was his plus-3 rating. Coach Mike Johnston continues to skate Bennett with Brandon Sutter and Steve Downie, and his reluctance to move Bennett up to a top-two line paid off Tuesday.

Pens' Bennett Still Looking For Love

News: Beau Bennett, who has been held pointless in his first three games back from a knee injury, said he hasn't mentally gotten past his ailment, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: "When something happens to your lower body, it's always in the back of your head," Beau Bennett said. "Mentally you have to get over it. Eventually I will." The winger tore up AHL play but hasn't seen results at the NHL level. He'll skate on Pittsburgh's third line Tuesday night in Montreal.

Bennett Returns To Pens On Tuesday

News: The Penguins eased Beau Bennett back into the lineup Tuesday, with the winger totaling less than 10 minutes (9:35 TOI) in 11 shifts against the Rangers.
Analysis: He picked a bad night to return as New York outplayed the Penguins from the drop of the puck. Beau Bennett moved around, skating on the team's fourth line initially and then seeing time with Evgeni Malkin. Pittsburgh is looking to jumpstart Malkin at even strength, making it possible Bennett again sees time with Malkin on Friday.

Bennett To Debut Tuesday For Pens

News: Beau Bennett will make his season debut for Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Analysis: The team has Beau Bennett slated to start on the fourth line, but at some point he'll likely move up to the second or third line. It's also possible he sees time on the Pens' second power-play as he works his way back into the league. Bennett tallied five assists and compiled a plus-4 rating in two games with AHL Wilkes-Barre prior to his recall.

Penguins Recall Bennett From Assignment

News: Beau Bennett (knee) was recalled from his conditioning assignment at AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Analysis: Beau Bennett looked impressive during his two-game stint in the minors, collecting five assists. The winger has been out all season while recovering from the knee injury sustained late in training camp. It doesn't sound like he'll be used in Tuesday's game against the Rangers, but he could make his return to action Friday against the Maple Leafs.

Bennett Close To Returning For Pens

News: Beau Bennett (knee), who collected five assists and compiled a plus-4 rating in two games over the weekend for AHL Wilkes-Barre, could be activated in the next couple days.
Analysis: "Beau had a great weekend, not just the points but just how he played overall," Pens coach Mike Johnston said Monday. "We're happy with his play and will have another discussion today to evaluate where he's at." The Penguins aren't in desperate need for offense as the NHL's top scoring team, but there's a chance Beau Bennett could help fantasy teams with second-unit power play and a possible spot next to Evgeni Malkin.
