Penguins' Bennett: (Wrist) Nearing Full Health

News: Beau Bennett (wrist) has resumed skating and is taking part in drills while continuing to recover from offseason surgery, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett, who underwent the procedure May 22, was given a four-month recovery timetable from the injury, putting him on pace to be ready in time for the Penguins' season opener Oct. 9. However, because Bennett had previously undergone two wrist surgeries, he understandably isn't calling himself 100 percent healthy just yet. Bennett said his main goal is adding strength before training camp begins, after which he'll have a better idea if he'll be ready in time for the opener. With James Neal and Jussi Jokinen both departing in the offseason, a top-six role could potentially await for Bennett if he proves healthy.

Penguins' Bennett Undergoes Wrist Surgery

News: Beau Bennett underwent wrist surgery on Thursday and his recovery time is expected to be four months, the Penguins' official website reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett first injured his wrist back in November and missed 51 games throughout the season because of the ailment, but ultimately elected to wait until season's end to have surgery. With a modest three goals and four assists, Bennett's production was somewhat impacted by the lingering issue for the better part of this season. The 22-year-old winger will now take the summer to recover and hopefully return some time during training camp this fall.

Pens' Bennett To Undergo Wrist Surgery

News: Beau Bennett will undergo wrist surgery following the Penguins' elimination from the postseason, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: The Penguins gave Beau Bennett the option of surgery back in February when he suffered a setback in his rehab from the wrist issue that first sidelined him in November, but he elected to rest up for another month before returning to action. As a result, his wrist was never 100 percent healthy once he rejoined the Penguins, and it was reflected in his modest offensive contributions. The upcoming procedure should have Bennett on track to be back to full health in time for training camp.

Pens' Bennett Takes Back Seat Sunday

News: Beau Bennett had a rough game Sunday, going pointless while playing only 11:47 TOI against the Rangers.
Analysis: He was credited with three shots but was benched at times during the game. Beau Bennett has scored a goal and five points in the playoffs, nearly matching his regular-season point total -- he had seven points in 21 contests -- so the potential is there for a quick rebound.

Bennett Buzzes In Pittsburgh Defeat

News: Beau Bennett notched an assist in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers in Game 1 of the Metropolitan Division finals, his fourth assist of the postseason.
Analysis: Much of what Beau Bennett did on the ice did not show up in the box score. He gave the Rangers some problems on the rush and created several scoring chances. He played just 12:51 in Friday's loss but figures to see more opportunities as the playoffs wear on.

Penguins' Bennett Thriving On Top Line

News: Beau Bennett had two assists in Monday's Game 3 victory over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Life on the top line with Sidney Crosby has treated Beau Bennett well, as he's supplied four points in the first three postseason games. He makes for a good value play in daily formats while he maintains his perch on the top line.

Pens' Bennett Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Beau Bennett recorded a goal and an assist Wednesday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The Penguins moved Beau Bennett from the No. 1 line down to the third line, but that didn't stop the Californian native from producing -- or chipping in with a game-changing check on defender Ryan Murray. He was banged up for most of the regular season, and with three goals and four assists in 21 games, he wasn't that productive when healthy. If he can continue to contribute consistently, there's value to be found here.

Pens' Bennett Shakes Off Injury

News: Beau Bennett (undisclosed) saw 17:22 of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Beau Bennett entered Saturday with his status in question after he was shaken up by a hit Thursday night, but he ended up seeing ample minutes in the game. Unfortunately, opposing goalie Ilya Bryzgalov pitched a shutout, keeping Bennett and his mates off the scoresheet.

News: Beau Bennett (undisclosed) practiced on the team's No. 2 power play unit Saturday, an indication that he'll play against the Wild, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Pittsburgh recalled Andrew Ebbetts on Saturday, but he's likely to take the place of Jussi Jokinen, who has an upper-body injury.

Pens' Bennett Shaken Up Thursday

News: Beau Bennett was apparently "shaken up" by a hit in Thursday's game and his status for Saturday is unknown, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: He missed a good chunk of the third period Thursday and now we know why. Hopefully the winger will be able to play against the Wild, as he has provided a huge spark for the Penguins since returning from a broken wrist.

Bennett Big For Pens On Thursday

News: Beau Bennett skated with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on Thursday, scoring his third goal of the season against the Jets.
Analysis: Beau Bennett's goal was essentially a power-play marker, as it came just after a Winnipeg penalty had elapsed. He missed nearly half of the third period for unknown reasons, but returned late in the game. Bennett continues to spark a team in need of an offensive boost, and makes an intriguing start in a wide variety of fantasy formats.

Bennett Big In Friday Return For Pens

News: Beau Bennett scored the game-winning goal Friday, registering three shots on net and four hits in a 2-1 win over Columbus.
Analysis: Beau Bennett boosted Pittsburgh's energy level and provided the team with a much-needed second playmaker in the wake of Evgeni Malkin's injury. He saw 14:51 TOI skating alongside Jussi Jokinen and James Neal on the second line. Look for the Pens to expand his role on the power play Sunday against Chicago.

Bennett Back For Pens On Friday

News: Beau Bennett will skate on a line with Jussi Jokinen and James Neal on Friday in Columbus, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: After missing the Penguins' last 50 games, Beau Bennett will skate as a left winger on the team's No. 2 line. He makes for a nice speculative play, seeing as though the offensive forward was likely dropped in many pools while injured.

Penguins Recall Bennett From Conditioning Work

News: Beau Bennett was recalled from his conditioning assignment AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday, Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: It looks like Beau Bennett will stick with the Penguins for now, but he could find it difficult to earn regular ice time in Pittsburgh. He had three points in 12 games with Penguins prior to injuring his wrist in November.

Pens' Bennett Concludes Conditioning Assignment

News: Beau Bennett (wrist) has concluded his conditioning assignment with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The Penguins now must face the decision of whether to keep him on their active roster or reassign him to the minors, where he'd be able to receive more consistent ice time. Should he remain with the Penguins, Beau Bennett would assume the unglamorous duty of playing in a bottom-six role.

Pens' Bennett (Wrist) Begins Rehab In AHL

News: Beau Bennett (wrist) will start a conditioning assignment with AHL Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Beau Bennett suffered a setback in his recovery from a wrist injury in late February, but currently appears to be progressing on track with his rehab. He'll likely play a few games in the minors in order to get his timing back, before eventually rejoining the Penguins this season.

Penguins' Bennett To Require A Few Practices

News: Coach Dan Bylsma said Beau Bennett (wrist) would need a few more full-contact practices before returning to action.
Analysis: Beau Bennett rejoined the team for a full session Monday, but Bylsma's statement suggests the forward won't be available for at least Tuesday's game vs. the Stars. A return to the lineup Thursday vs. the Red Wings or over the weekend appears more realistic, assuming Bennett hits no snags in his recovery from the wrist injury.

Return For Pens' Bennett Remains A Bit Far Off

News: Beau Bennett (wrist) is not expected to return to action for the Penguins first game out of the break Thursday against the Canadiens, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Though Beau Bennett was projected to be ready to return soon, he's still experience issues with stick-handling as he waits for his wrist to heal up. Bennett will remain limited to conditioning work before practices until further notice.

News: Beau Bennett (wrist) skated on his own Wednesday morning, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Pens' Bennett Still Four Weeks Away

News: Coach Dan Bylsma said Beau Bennett (wrist) is still four weeks away from returning to action.
Analysis: Though Beau Bennett was initially targeting a return by the end of the month after breaking his wrist Nov. 22, it now looks like he won't be available until mid-February. Bylsma said that Bennett is skating without incident, but the wrist is giving him issues with holding his stick and catching passes.
