Sabres Prospect McCabe Might Resume AHL Play Soon

News: Jake McCabe (concussion) may resume playing with AHL Rochester next week, Rob Sanderson of FOX Sports 1280 reports.
Analysis: The concussion has kept Jake McCabe out of commission for Rochester since March 4. The blueliner likely would have been in line to join the Sabres as a late-season call-up, but the long-term absence due to the head injury probably dashes those hopes.

No Timetable For Sabres' McCabe

News: Jake McCabe suffered a possible concussion Wednesday in the AHL and there is no timetable for his return, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Jake McCabe played in two games for the Sabres before being demoted. With Mark Pysyk sitting out with a heart-related issue, McCabe was first in line for a potential call-up, but now it looks like Chad Ruhwedel will be at the top of the list. McCabe will continue to be evaluated.

Sabres' McCabe Suffers Injury In Minors

News: Jake McCabe suffered an upper-body injury in his last game with AHL Rochester and will be reevaluated Thursday, Rob Sanderson of FOX Sports 1280 reports.
Analysis: Jake McCabe reportedly hit his head on the ice during Wednesday's game, with Rochester coach Chadd Cassidy indicating the injury is "pretty serious." With Mark Pysyk off the ice after requiring hospitalization last weekend upon collapsing during a pickup basketball game, McCabe seemed to be the next defenseman in line for a promotion to the Sabres, but his injury might spell an end to those hopes.

Sabres Send McCabe Back To Rochester

News: Jake McCabe, who played two games for the Sabres following a recent call-up, was sent back to Rochester of the AHL on Wednesday, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: If Tyson Strachan returns to health by the team's next game Thursday, the promising Jake McCabe may have to wait a bit for his next stint, as fellow call-up Mark Pysyk seems to be more NHL ready right now. The other option on defense is Nikita Zadorov, who has sat out the previous two games due to disciplinary reasons. McCabe recorded four hits, two shots, and a blocked shot in his recent stint.

Sabres' McCabe Has Something To Prove

News: Jake McCabe says his confidence and consistency has improved significantly, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Jake McCabe played just 10 minutes in his season debut against Nashville, but finished the night with three hits and a blocked shot. After a slow start to his pro career after three seasons at Wisconsin, McCabe has emerged as one of AHL Rochester's best defenseman, and though head coach Ted Nolan doesn't think McCabe is ready for a full-time NHL role, understands that McCabe has immense potential and will need more seasoning in the minors. Between McCabe and Mark Pysyk, who was called up at the same time, Pysyk offers more upside in the short-term, but long-term McCabe is considered to have more game-breaking skill. Look for both players to play more with Nikita Zadorov (suspension), Mike Weber (upper body) and Tyson Strachan (illness) unavailable.

Sabres' McCabe Recalled From AHL

News: Jake McCabe has been recalled to the NHL, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Buffalo is dealing with some injury and suspension problems, so Jake McCabe will add depth to the team until they can get their regular players back on the ice. Nikita Zadorov (suspension), Tyson Strachan (illness), Mike Weber (upper body) are all out while Josh Gorges (lower body) is done for the season. McCabe has been one of AHL Rochester's best defensemen this year and offers some game-breaking ability at both ends of the ice. Between McCabe and Mark Pysyk, the Sabres' other call-up, McCabe has the higher upside. The former Wisconsin Badgers captain should be able to step into the Sabres lineup next year, so the remainder of the season will likely serve as an audition.

Sabres' McCabe Struggling In AHL

News: Jake McCabe, in Rochester on a conditioning assignment, hasn't played very well, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Jake McCabe and Mark Pysyk were assigned to Rochester after recovering from their respective injuries but both players have struggled since. McCabe in particular had a really strong training camp, and had it not been for Nikita Zadorov blocking his path, McCabe may have made the team. There's no hurry with McCabe, one of Buffalo's top prospects, and he won't be fantasy relevant yet for a few more years.

Sabres Assign McCabe To Minors

News: Jake McCabe (undisclosed) was assigned to AHL Rochester on Thursday.
Analysis: Fellow injured blueliner Mark Pysyk (shoulder) was also sent to Rochester on Thursday, but it's not clear whether they'll be there to stay or are just on a rehab assignment. The Sabres have received miserable play from their defense in the early stages of the season, and the addition of Jake McCabe might represent an upgrade over one of their incumbent defensemen.

Sabres' McCabe Close To Returning

News: Coach Ted Nolan said Thursday that Jake McCabe (undisclosed) is close to playing, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: General manager Tim Murray is set to meet with Jake McCabe later Thursday to get a clearer idea of how he's coming along from his injury, but all indications from the Sabres are that he could be ready to go at some point next week. The Buffalo blue line has been a mess in the early stages of the season, so it wouldn't be especially surprising if McCabe claimed a regular spot in the lineup immediately upon his activation.

Sabres' McCabe To Miss At Least A Week

News: Coach Ted Nolan said Wednesday that Jake McCabe (undisclosed) would be out for about "a week or so."
Analysis: It was expected that Jake McCabe was just receiving a maintenance day when he was held out of practice earlier this week, but Nolan acknowledged that the blueliner had been dealing with a nagging injury that wasn't showing much improvement. With a week off the ice, the hope is McCabe will be able to put the issue behind him. If that ends up materializing, he could reclaim a spot on Buffalo's third defensive pairing.

Sabres Place McCabe On IR

News: Jake McCabe (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Analysis: Jake McCabe was held out of practice Monday and Tuesday for what was believed to be maintenance purposes, but the roster move suggests the Sabres might have been concealing something. More details about his injury should emerge in the coming days, but it looks like McCabe will be out for at least the Sabres' season opener Thursday vs. the Blue Jackets.

Sabres' McCabe Scores In Loss

News: Jake McCabe scored a goal and played 23:16 in Friday's 6-4 loss to Toronto.
Analysis: It was a classic Jake McCabe play. After gathering a bouncing puck off a broken breakout by the Leafs, McCabe calmly skated towards the goal, settled the puck, toe-dragged an on-his-knees Petter Granberg, and sniped it top shelf right under the crossbar over James Reimer's left shoulder. McCabe's offensive instincts and wrist shot are some of his strengths and also led the team in time on ice. He is obviously impressing the coaching staff despite coming into camp with just seven games of pro experience. The 20-year-old defenseman is on track to crack Buffalo's lineup. He could also feature on Buffalo's second power play unit.

Sabres' McCabe: Game-Time Decision

News: Jake McCabe (undisclosed) is a game-time decision for Saturday's prospect game against the Rangers.
Analysis: The team didn't specify what was bothering Jake McCabe, but it doesn't appear to be anything serious. If he's in the lineup, the NHL Prospect Tournament is a good chance to get a look at McCabe, who is expected to be a fixture on the Sabres' blue line for years to come.
