Calder assigned to AHL team

News: Left wing Kyle Calder has cleared waivers and been assigned to the Anaheim Ducks' minor league affiliate in Toronto. Anaheim recalled right wing Troy Bodie from the AHL on Monday to replace him.
Analysis: The Ducks hoped for a scoring boost from Calder when they signed the nine-year NHL veteran to a one-year contract in late October, but he hasn't scored a goal in 14 games with Anaheim, managing just two assists. Calder scored 27 points for the Los Angeles Kings last year. Ignore Calder in all Fantasy formats.

Kyle Calder

Calder ends up on waivers

News: The Orange County Register reports the Ducks placed LW Kyle Calder on waivers Monday. Calder, who had subbed in after injuries to Teemu Selanne and Joffrey Lupul, had two assists and a minus-7 rating in 14 games. "We felt Kyle played hard for us," coach Randy Carlyle said. "The situation we're in, there wasn't enough results to play him with our best players... he worked hard. It just didn't work this time. Maybe next time it does."
Analysis: Teams have until Tuesday to claim Calder. If no one does, Anaheim might put him in the minors, but clearly they have soured on the veteran forward. Ignore Calder in all Fantasy formats.

Calder back in lineup Friday

News: Ducks LW Kyle Calder returned to the lineup on Friday against the Red Wings after missing six games with an eye injury. He failed to record a point in 9:57 of ice time and finished at even. He took three shots on net.
Analysis: Calder is lucky he didn't sustain any permanent eye damage after taking a puck to the face in practice a few weeks back. Calder is a veteran forward that is hanging on by a thread in his NHL career. He is merely a lower-line forward that has little to no Fantasy value when healthy.

Calder should return Friday

News: The Orange County Register reports that Ducks LW Kyle Calder should be back in the lineup Friday after sitting out six games because of hyphema or blood in his iris.
Analysis: Calder is a veteran forward that is hanging on by a thread in his NHL career. He is merely a lower-line forward that has little to no Fantasy value when healthy.

Kyle Calder

Calder to miss 2-4 weeks

News: The Oranger County Register reports Ducks left wing Kyle Calder will miss 2-4 weeks with hyphema in his left eye. Hyphema refers to blood in the iris, often caused by blunt trauma. Calder was struck by the puck Saturday in practice when it ramped up his stick during a defensive-zone drill. Anaheim recalled Matt Beleskey from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL to replace Calder.
Analysis: Calder has only on point in six games since his recall from the ECHL. Calder is a veteran forward that is hanging on by a thread in his NHL career. He is merely a lower-line forward that has little to no Fantasy value when healthy.

K. Calder summoned from ECHL

News: The Ducks have recalled LW Kyle Calder from the ECHL.
Analysis: Calder is a veteran of 577 games but is only filling in while the Ducks deal with some injuries. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.

Ducks sign Calder after all

News: The Ducks have signed LW Kyle Calder to a one-year contract. Calder will start off in the ECHL.
Analysis: Calder was with the Ducks in camp this season but was one of the final cuts after coming in on a tryout contract. He has no Fantasy value at this time.

Ducks have no room for Calder

News: The Anaheim Ducks have released forward Kyle Calder and defenseman Jassen Cullimore in one of their final cutdowns before the regular season. Anaheim also assigned left wing Ryan Donally and goalie Justin Pogge to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio, trimming the Ducks' roster to 26 players.
Analysis: Calder is a nine-year NHL veteran who joined the Ducks in September on a tryout deal. Calder has 114 goals and 178 assists in a career spent mostly with Chicago. He played the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, frequently skating on their top two lines. Calder might latch on with someone, but he is not expected to contribute much this season and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Ducks going to give Calder a look

News: The Ducks have invited forward Kyle Calder to training camp on a tryout basis.
Analysis: The Ducks don't have a lot of natural left wingers on their roster, so Calder is coming to camp just in case they need help in that area. Calder had eight goals and 27 points in 74 games last season with the Kings. He is more of a lower-line forward these days and has minimal Fantasy appeal, if he makes the Ducks' roster.

Calder does well vs. Hawks

News: The Sports Xchange reports Kings LW Kyle Calder had an assist Sunday against Chicago. Calder scored one point in every game against the Blackhawks, his former team, this season. He had one goal and three assists, meaning that four of Calder's 25 points this season have come against Chicago.
Analysis: While Calder has done well against Chicago this season, the same can't be said for his season as a whole. He has just one goal and four assists in his last 21 games after having a nice run in late January to early February where he posted eight points in seven games. Coach Terry Murray hasn't received quality production from Calder at all times and that has limited his Fantasy appeal.

Kyle Calder

Calder has three points in 15 games

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Saturday's 4-3 win against the Wild. Calder regained the lead for the Kings just 29 seconds after Owen Nolan tied the game in the first, scoring his eighth goal on a slap shot from the top of the left circle that snuck past Niklas Backstrom's left leg. It was his first goal since Feb. 5.
Analysis: Calder has just three points in his last 15 games. He was one of the Kings' best skaters in late January and early February when he was on a line with Jarrett Stoll and Dustin Brown. He is still playing with Stoll, but his offense has disappeared. Calder still has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Calder scores decisive goal

News: LW Kyle Calder scored with 1:33 left to give the Kings a 5-3 lead Thursday and it proved to be the game winner in a 5-4 victory against the Capitals. Calder has three goals and five assists in his last seven games.
Analysis: After floundering for most of the season, coach Terry Murray moved Calder to the second line with Dustin Brown and Jarrett Stoll. The change seems to have sparked Calder's game since he has been locked in for a few weeks. Calder had some decent scoring lines back in the day, but he is still not a top-offensive player and has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Calder thriving in new position

News: The Sports Xchange reports that forty-plus games into the season, Kings coach Terry Murray took a look at winger Kyle Calder and decided that Calder was out of place. So Murray did something bold and put a non-goal-scorer in a goal scorer's role, and it's working. Calder, who spent the majority of the season as a checking-line grinder, has spent the last couple weeks on the second line, alongside talented forwards Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll, and they seem to have formed a potent unit. In his first 38 games this season, Calder totaled four goals and eight assists. In his last five games, including Saturday's 4-3 loss to Montreal, Calder has two goals and five assists, playing in his new, higher-profile role.
Analysis: "They really enjoy playing for each other, with the battle and the board work," Murray said. "That's (Calder's) M.O., that's what he has always shown in his years in the NHL." Calder's new role has made him more effective, but by no means a high-end threat. He remains a low-end option until he proves that he can keep up this pace.

Kyle Calder

Calder has three points in two games

News: The Sports Xchange reports Kings LW Kyle Calder scored a power-play goal in the first period Wednesday against the Avalanche, his sixth goal of the season and his first power-play goal of the season. Calder scored goals in back-to-back games for the first time this season and tied a season best with three points in his last two games.
Analysis: alder has really frustrated coach Terry Murray with his play in 2008-09. He has expected a lot more from the veteran forward and has even made him a healthy scratch at times to display his frustrations. Calder has played well as of late, but is still getting few offensive chances and remains a very low-end Fantasy flier.

Calder has goal, assist vs. Wild

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder tallied a goal, assist and plus-2 rating during Tuesday's game against the Wild. Calder used a screen from Dustin Brown to score his fifth goal of the season and give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. It was his first goal since Dec. 20 when he also had a 1-and-1 night.
Analysis: Calder has really frustrated coach Terry Murray with his play in 2008-09. He has expected a lot more from the veteran forward and has even made him a healthy scratch at times to display his frustrations. Calder is getting few offensive chances and remains a very low-end Fantasy flier.

Calder scores, assists in loss

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder scored and assisted in a loss to the Red Wings on Saturday. He now has 11 points on the season.
Analysis: Calder has a couple of nice seasons under his belt in his eight-year career, but he's really struggled the last three campaigns. He is barely worth owning in Fantasy play right now.

Kyle Calder

Calder scores twice in five games

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder scored a goal during Saturday's 3-0 win against the Blue Jackets. Calder made it 2-0 at 12:29 of the period, redirecting Kyle Quincey's slap shot from the left point after Anze Kopitar won a faceoff from R.J. Umberger. It was his second goal in five games and third on the season.
Analysis: Calder has a few 50-point seasons to his credit, but has always been a streaky offensive player and hasn't had a really good season since 2005-06 with the Blackhawks. Calder is going to frustrate Fantasy owners as much as the Kings, so he has low-end appeal.

Kyle Calder

Calder a frustrating player for Kings

News: The Sports Xchange reports LW Kyle Calder perplexes Kings fans and, at times, coach Terry Murray. Calder has played on each of the top three lines at different points this season, and he's also been a healthy scratch in five games. He has only one goal and three assists in 16 games this season, and his game is traditionally suited toward an energy-line role, but Murray hasn't been shy about skating Calder with C Anze Kopitar and RW Dustin Brown, even in games that Calder starts as the third-line left wing. Calder scored his second goal of the season Saturday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Calder has a few 50-point seasons to his credit, but has always been a streaky offensive player and hasn't had a really good season since 2005-06 with the Blackhawks. Calder is going to frustrate Fantasy owners as much as the Kings, so he has low-end appeal.

Calder scores with rare PT

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder scored a goal during Monday's 4-3 loss to the Red Wings. Calder scored his first goal on a wrist shot past Chris Osgood 1:16 into the second period. He now has a goal and an assist in four games this season.
Analysis: Calder has been a healthy scratch for half of the Kings' games this season and appears to be just roster filler when coach Terry Murray wants to mix it up. Until Calder becomes a permanent fixture, it's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Calder to skate on top line?

News: The L.A. Daily News reports that Kings LW Kyle Calder has been skating on the top line at practices recently with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown.
Analysis: Calder has been a healthy scratch more often than not this season, so this is quite a promotion if it sticks over the weekend. Calder's best season came in 2005-06 when he put up 59 points with Chicago, so you shouldn't get too excited about this move just yet. Keep a close eye on his stats over the next few games, however.

Kyle Calder

Calder active for just one game

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder was a healthy scratch for the fourth time in five games Monday against the Avalanche. He has no points in the one game he has played this season.
Analysis: Calder had 20 points in 65 games last season for Los Angeles, but the team has opted to go toward a youth movement and the veteran forward is left on the outside looking in. It's safe to ignore Calder in Fantasy at this time.

Calder (finger) "out indefinitely"

News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Kings LW Kyle Calder (finger) is out indefinitely.
Analysis: At this late stage in the season, it's very possible we've seen the last of Zeiler. He's been a very low-end Fantasy producer this season and should be left on the waiver wire.

Calder scores against former team

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder got some payback Thursday against his former team, as he scored his seventh goal of the season during a 5-3 win against the Red Wings. Calder also had his 10th assist in the game. He managed his first points in seven games.
Analysis: Calder played for Detroit last season before latching on with L.A. this season. He had a down season with Detroit after a 59-point performance in 2005-06 with Chicago. He is not having a much better run with the Kings this season and remains just a low-end Fantasy flier.

Calder fires home loose puck

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder's power-play goal at 7:29 of the third period Sunday against the Blackhawks tied the game at 2. He fired in a loose puck after Tom Preissing's shot had deflected off traffic in front of the net. It was his fifth goal of the season and first since Nov. 25 against the Ducks.
Analysis: Calder missed about a month with a broken thumb and is just finally getting his feet back under him. The Kings hope he can find some of that magic he had with the Blackhawks in 2005-06 when he tallied a career-high 59 points. So far, he has not met the challenge. He remains a low-end Fantasy option at this time.

News: Kings LW Kyle Calder tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 in 12:52 of ice time Saturday against the Coyotes. It was his first point in six games and just his second since returning to the lineup Nov. 24.
Analysis: Calder missed about a month with a broken thumb and is just finally getting his feet back under him.
