Bruins Ink Clark To PTO

News: Chris Clark has signed a professional tryout contract with AHL Providence, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: The Providence Bruins are Boston's AHL affiliate. Chris Clark has already begun practicing with his new squad but remains free to sign an NHL contract with any team. Clark does have a season with 54 points (2006-07) but his production had fallen off over recent years. Until he is signed to more than a tryout, he should be off fantasy radars.

Bruins Pass On Clark

News: The Bruins have decided to pass on offering Chris Clark a contract, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Chris Clark spent training camp with the Bruins on a tryout basis, but the team ultimately decided not to add him to the roster. Clark has 607 NHL games under his belt, so he figures to draw at least mild interest as a free agent.

Bruins Give Clark A Chance

News: Chris Clark has accepted a tryout invitation from the Bruins, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Chris Clark, who scored five goals and 10 assists in 53 games for the Blue Jackets last season, is a solid veteran two-way player who will have to beat out some of the organization's promising young forwards in order to crack the Boston roster.

Clark Won't Return To Columbus Next Season

News: The Blue Jackets have informed Clark that they won't be re-signing him, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The veteran will be an unrestricted free agent as of July 1. Clark got off to a hot start last season, but overall he didn't make much of an impact during his time in Columbus. As a solid veteran fourth line player he shouldn't be unemployed for too long.

Jackets' Clark Out Tuesday

News: Clark (lower body) won't play against the Stars on Tuesday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He remains day-to-day, while it appears as though he's nearing a return as there were previously reports that he might be able to get on the ice Tuesday night.

Clark Nears Return To Blue Jackets' Lineup

News: Clark (lower-body injury) could return for Tuesday's game against Dallas, the Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Getting Clark back would boost the Blue Jackets' depth up front, but with 14 points in 51 games, he's not much of a fantasy factor.

Jackets' Clark Back Sooner Than Expected?

News: Clark (lower body) said Tuesday that he could return sooner than coach Scott Arniel's estimate that the forward will be out three to four weeks, Tom Reed of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Columbus only has 13 games (just over three weeks) left on the regular-season schedule, so the exact timetable for Clark's return has more relevance to the Blue Jackets and its depth than it does in the world of fantasy hockey. Besides, fantasy owners generally require much more than the 14 points in 51 games that Clark has posted in 2010-11.

Blue Jackets' Clark Deals With Lower Body Injury

News: Clark did not play in the third period of Saturday's game against Carolina after suffering a lower body injury, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Clark, who has just 14 points and 36 PIMs in 51 games to date, will be evaluated Sunday in Columbus

Jackets' Clark A Healthy Scratch Wednesday

News: Clark was a healthy scratch Wednesday.
Analysis: After a quick start offensively to the season, Clark has regressed to being the unremarkable fourth liner everyone expected him to be.

Two Goals for Jackets' Clark in Rout

News: Clark scored twice in Wednesday's 8-1 thumping of the Blues.
Analysis: They were his first two goals of the season, and Clark now has eight points in 12 games. He occasionally sees shifts on the second line, but Nikita Filatov seems to be solidifying his spot on that unit so despite Clark's production so far, he remains a risky fantasy pickup.

Clark Misses Jackets' Practice Monday

News: Clark did not practice Monday, but it was considered a maintenance day and he'll be able to play Tuesday against Montreal, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: No need to be alarmed here, though the Blue Jackets' leading scorer (we're not joking about that) is unlikely to continue chugging along at a 60-point pace so you'll want to start making other plans for wing help if you've been taking advantage of his fast start.

Jackets' Clark Picks Up Two Assists Thursday

News: Clark assisted on both of the Blue Jackets' goals in regulation in their 3-2 shootout win over the Oilers Thursday.
Analysis: Quietly, he's now collected six points (all assists) with a plus-5 rating in the last six games. It's been a few seasons since Clark had any fantasy relevance, but new coach Scott Arniel's system seems to have enlivened the grinders on the Blue Jackets' roster, and players like Clark and Kyle Wilson have been the early beneficiaries. A point a game is an unrealistic pace for Clark over the long haul, but even half that would be an unexpected bonus for the Jackets.

Clark done for the season

News: The Columbus Dispatch reports that Blue Jackets RW Chris Clark is out for the season with a knee injury.
Analysis: Clark was the unlucky guy who moved from one of the league's best teams (Washington) to one of the worst (Columbus) in the Jason Chimera deal. He will continue to have no Fantasy value.

Clark suffers undisclosed injury

News: Columbus RW Chris Clark suffered an undisclosed injury in the second period Sunday against the Blackhawks and didn't return. He had no points in 7:38 of ice time.
Analysis: While Clark has played regularly for the Blue Jackets since his arrival from Washington, it's not like he has moved mountains offensively. He was pretty much added for his veteran leadership and you don't get points for that in Fantasy. Clark has minimal Fantasy appeal when healthy.

C. Clark scores 1st goal in a month

News: Blue Jackets RW Chris Clark scored his first goal in a month as Columbus defeated the Blues on Monday.
Analysis: Clark hasn't done much offensively since coming over from the Capitals in late December. Continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

Clark hits the ice for Columbus

News: The Sports Xchange reports RW Chris Clark made his Blue Jackets debut on Tuesday against the Islanders, skating on a third line with center Samuel Pahlsson and left wing Fredrik Modin. He had no points in 13:49 of ice time.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets pursued Clark as a much needed veteran voice in the dressing room as well as a checking-line right wing. Previously, the club had an abundance of left wings. Clark showed some offensive potential in the past, but injuries have derailed his career. Clark still has minimal Fantasy appeal despite his new surroundings.

Jackets trade Chimera for Clark, Jurcina

News: The Blue Jackets have traded LW Jason Chimera to the Capitals for captain RW Chris Clark and D Milan Jurcina.
Analysis: Chimera must think he's died and gone to heaven with this trade, as he moves from one of the NHL's worst teams to one of the league's elite units. The 30-year-old, who has never reached 40 points in his career, will probably play mostly third-line action with the stocked Capitals, and his Fantasy value will probably drop if anything. It was already pretty minimal to begin with, so just continue to ignore him outside of the deepest leagues. Clark is an oft-injured winger who has one decent NHL season under his belt (54 points in 2006-07) and could see some time on the scoring lines in Columbus. Keep an eye on his numbers if you're in a deeper leagues with deficiencies on the wing. Jurcina is in his fifth NHL season and has never topped 15 points. Continue to ignore him in all formats.

Clark scores on Friday vs. Canucks

News: Capitals RW Chris Clark scored a goal and finished at plus-1 on Friday against the Canucks. Clark put Washington ahead with 1:54 left in the first period as he beat Roberto Luongo with a slap shot. He has two goals and two assists in his last seven games.
Analysis: Clark had all of 15 points during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons because of injury. He already has 14 points in 35 games this season and has managed to stay relatively healthy. While Clark isn't lighting up the scoreboard, he is still a great veteran presence. He serves his purpose as leader for the Caps, but Clark definitely has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Clark nets second goal vs. Sens

News: Capitals RW Chris Clark scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Monday's game against the Senators. Clark drew Washington even at 11:19 when Brian Pothier's slap pass went in off the Washington captain's left skate. Alex Ovechkin drew an assist for his pass to Brian Pothier to begin the play -- and the goal was upheld by a video review.
Analysis: Clark has two goals in 24 games this season and definitely hasn't been a very good scoring presence for the Capitals. Two injury-plagued seasons have taken Clark off course from what looked like a very promising career. He still serves his purpose as leader for the Caps, but Clark definitely has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Clark has first point in seven games

News: Capitals RW Chris Clark scored a goal during Thursday's game against the Thrashers. Clark capped a run of three second-period goals by scoring on a rebound of Mike Green's shot. It was his first goal of the season and first point in seven games.
Analysis: Washington is glad to have Clark back on the ice in 2009-10 after two straight injury-plagued seasons limited his impact. Washington hasn't needed Clark to step up offensively in the early going, but if he can get back to his 20-goal ways, then the Capitals would welcome it. Clark has minimal Fantasy appeal until further notice.

Chris Clark

Clark extremely valuable to Capitals

News: The Sports Xchange reports Capitals C Chris Clark is one of those players that could have a big effect on the team in several different ways. Injuries again sidelined him for most of last season, but he somehow made it back to play eight games in the playoffs. He's been a great leader in the locker room for this young team, and contributes enough offensively -- when healthy -- to really mean something. If he has to battle injuries again, losing Clark would be tough for the Caps.
Analysis: It was 2006-07 that Clark recorded a career-high 30 goals, 24 assists and 54 points. He has since regressed the last two seasons because of injuries. Clark plays in all situations for the Caps and is extremely valuable to their cause. However, he remains an injury-risk flier in Fantasy since he has played just 50 games the last two seasons. He is also worth a look in leagues that reward heavily for PIM and short-handed stats.

Clark makes return from injury

News: Washington Capitals captain Chris Clark played for the first time since January, taking the place of suspended enforcer Donald Brashear for Tuesday night's Game 7 against the New York Rangers. Brashear was suspended six games by the NHL for two separate incidents in Game 6. Clark had not played since Jan. 27 because of a wrist injury.
Analysis: Clark didn't have a point in 8:13 of ice time Tuesday, but it was nice to see him back out on the ice. If he can play in a few more games, he might get his confidence up heading into 2009-10 after two straight injury-plagued seasons. Clark flashed 30-goal potential in the past, but will be a low-end, injury-risk Fantasy option Draft Day.

Clark has wrist surgery Thursday

News: Capitals captain Chris Clark had surgery on his right wrist Thursday. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Analysis: Clark was a rising star in 2006-07 when he totaled a career-high 30 goals. But he has had two straight injury-plagued seasons since and was having a tough time cracking the top-six rotation before getting hurt. Feel free to cut him in all formats.

News: Sportsnet.ca reports that Capitals RW Chris Clark is likely out for the rest of the regular season with a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist.
Analysis: Clark was a rising star in 2006-07 when he totaled a career-high 30 goals. But he has had two straight injury-plagued seasons since and was having a tough time cracking the top-six rotation before getting hurt. Feel free to cut him in all formats.

Clark has one point in 10 outings

News: Capitals RW Chris Clark failed to record a point in 12:34 of ice time Monday against the Islanders. He doesn't have a point in six games and just one in his last 10 outings.
Analysis: Clark was a rising star in 2006-07 when he totaled a career-high 30 goals. But he has had two straight injury-plagued seasons and is having a tough time cracking the top-six rotation at this time. Clark seems like a fading star and should be left on Fantasy benches until further notice.
