Wild's Coyle Scores One For Highlight Reels

News: Charlie Coyle scored a late-third-period goal Tuesday to make the difference in a 2-1 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: It was one for the highlight reels, as Charlie Coyle swooped down the ice by himself at high speed past Oilers goalie Viktor Fasth, went past the net, sent the puck up toward the goal line, and then came back with the stick to tap it home from behind the goal. It's worth watching again and again. Coyle's offense remains inconsistent, but Tuesday's goal offers a reminder of what he's capable of doing.

Wild's Coyle Assists Twice In Win

News: Charlie Coyle gathered two assists in Friday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The pair of assists snapped a three-game scoring drought for Charlie Coyle, who turned in a mostly blank slate throughout December, tallying just three points in the month. He hasn't taken the leap forward many expected in his third NHL season, but continues to hold down a second-line role for the Wild.

Wild's Coyle Picks Up Two Assists Saturday

News: Charlie Coyle snapped a seven-game scoring drought Saturday, picking up two assists in a loss to Nashville.
Analysis: The 22-year-old now has two goals and 13 points in 31 games this season, to go with an even plus-minus rating. While Charlie Coyle is on pace for a career-season points-wise, he hasn't been able to duplicate the scoring success of his carer-high 12-goal season in 2013-14. Centering Minnesota's third line, the youngster should still hit the 30-point mark in 2014-15.

Wild's Coyle Likely To Play Tuesday

News: Charlie Coyle (illness) was back on the ice for the Wild's morning skate and is expected to play Tuesday versus the Islanders, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: A stomach ailment kept Charlie Coyle out of commission at Monday's practice, but the Wild were simply happy that his absence wasn't on account of the mumps, a virus which was afflicted five of the team's defensemen this season. Barring any afternoon setbacks with his illness, Coyle appears poised to reclaim his spot in the team's bottom-six forwards.

Wild's Coyle Misses Practice Due To Illness

News: Charlie Coyle missed Monday's practice due to an illness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "I was told it is definitely ... not ... the mumps," coach Mike Yeo said. "It's a stomach ailment. We'll see where he's at [Tuesday]."
Analysis: Several Wild players have been sidelined due to the mumps, so hopefully this is a minor ailment.

Wild's Coyle Moves To Center

News: Charlie Coyle has moved from wing to center on the Wild's third line with Thomas Vanek and Jason Zucker, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Charlie Coyle's move to center could be permanent based on his success at the position last year, but head coach Mike Yeo frequently changes his line combinations.

Wild's Coyle Assists Twice

News: Charlie Coyle handed out a pair of assists in Thursday's 6-3 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: He assisted on two goals of Nino Niederreiter's hat trick -- the even-strength one and the empty-netter -- to end a four-game scoreless skid during which he'd gone minus-6, rapidly erasing the plus-6 rating he'd compiled in the early going. Despite the production, Charlie Coyle went without a shot on goal for the second straight game.

Wild's Coyle Slumping

News: Charlie Coyle was a minus-2 in Tuesday's loss to New Jersey and didn't have a shot on goal. He has just one point in his last six games. "I don't see a lot of confidence," head coach Mike Yeo said about Coyle to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle doesn't look at risk of losing ice time in the short term, but that could change if his slump continues.

Wild's Coyle Celebrates Contract With Goal

News: Charlie Coyle celebrated Wednesday's contract extension in Thursday's win over the Coyotes, scoring the game's first goal -- which turned out to be the winner -- early in the second period.
Analysis: It's the second goal of the year for the talented young Charlie Coyle, who's going to be a fixture for years to come in Minnesota. He's got three points and a plus-4 rating over five games so far this season.

Wild's Coyle Signs Five-Year Extension

News: Charlie Coyle signed a five-year, $16 million extension with the Wild on Wednesday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The 22-year-old had just entered the final season of his entry-level deal, but he'll now be afforded some peace of mind with the five-year extension. A first-round pick (28th overall) in 2010, Charlie Coyle had a minus-7 rating but tallied 30 points (12G, 18A) in 70 games last season, and his speed and strong chemistry with teammate Mikko Koivu recently earned him a promotion to the second line.

Wild's Coyle Gets Promotion To Second Line

News: Charlie Coyle was elevated to the second line at Tuesday's practice, Rachel Blount of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Yeo is hoping that the addition of Charlie Coyle will provide an infusion of speed to a second line that has struggled to produce under the stewardship of regulars Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek, who have combined to tally one point in four games. Coyle demonstrated strong chemistry with Koivu while the two played together last season, so there's a good chance the move will prove beneficial for all three players involved in the arrangement.

Wild's Coyle Posts Assist

News: Charlie Coyle had a power-play assist in 13 minutes of ice time in Thursday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle is on the third line with Nino Niederreiter and Erik Haula, but the Wild's third line may be more productive on offense than its second line.

Wild's Coyle Played Through Separated Shoulders

News: Charlie Coyle played through both a separated left and right shoulder in the final two games of the Wild's second-round series loss to the Blackhawks, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle was held scoreless over the final two games of the series, grimacing on the bench in Game 6 when he had difficulty with stick-handling. The youngster was enjoying a productive postseason up to that point, and with the entire offseason in front of him to rest up, Coyle may be primed for a breakout 2014-15 campaign.

Wild's Coyle Finding Scoring Touch In Playoffs

News: Charlie Coyle scored his third goal of the playoffs -- a power-play tally -- in Thursday's Game 4 win over the Avs.
Analysis: He probably wasn't a big name in your playoff pool, but if you've got him, Charlie Coyle's been paying you off. He's playing heavy minutes and this series looks like it could need seven games to be decided.

Wild's Coyle Not Slowing Down

News: Charlie Coyle gathered two assists in Saturday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: The 22-year-old forward has come into his own of late, providing at least one point in seven of the past eight contests. He'll have decent odds of keeping the production going over the final week of the regular season while he stays on a line with Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu.

Wild's Coyle Tallies Goal In Third Straight

News: Charlie Coyle registered a goal against the Canucks on Wednesday.
Analysis: The young center has tallied goals in three consecutive games, with his increased number of shots on goal starting to yield points. With Matt Moulson and Mikko Koivu as his linemates, there's no reason to think Charlie Coyle can't continue to thrive while in a top-six role.

Wild's Coyle Scores In Loss To Red Wings

News: Charlie Coyle found the back of the net in Saturday's 3-2 home defeat to the Red Wings. Mikko Koivu scored the other goal for the Wild.
Analysis: It was goal number eight on the year for the big 6-foot-3, 220-pound center, who also notched eight last year - but in 22 less games. Aside from a mini six-point outburst in five games in January, Charlie Coyle has been largely underwhelming this season, failing to find a consistent scoring touch despite getting ample opportunity with studs like Zach Parise and set-up man Mikko Koivu. Also discouraging is his minus-10 rating, second-worst on the Wild only to Dany Heatley.

Wild's Coyle Slumping Into Break

News: Charlie Coyle was held without a point in his final eight games before the Olympic break.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle became a popular waiver wire pickup in mid-January after accruing six points over a five-game stretch, only to fall into the drought right after attracting interest. The potential remains high for the 21-year-old, but it might not be fully realized until a couple of years from now.

Wild's Coyle Grabs Two Asissts

News: Charlie Coyle had two assists in Sunday's win over Nashville. He has six points in his last seven games.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle is clicking on a line with Dany Heatley and Jason Zucker. At age 21, this could be a sign of things to come.

Coyle Scores Two For Minny

News: Charlie Coyle had his first career two-goal game in the NHL in a 4-2 loss to Colorado on Saturday night. The goals are his first in 11 games.
Analysis: The kid is talented and could develop into a top-line player. Short-term, that "could' part is a limiter -- he just isn't providing value in most single-year formats right now.

Coyle Grabs Assist In Wild Loss

News: Charlie Coyle registered an assist in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis, his second helper in the last three games.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle is still more of a lottery ticket for single-season leagues but he's one of the league's better offensive prospects. His 11 points through 30 games are not going to lead the league, but he remains an excellent prospect in keeper leagues. Coyle's been active the last three games as well with 13 shots on goal.

Wild's Coyle Moves To 2nd Power Play Unit

News: Dany Heatley was moved to the Wild's top power-play unit in Wednesday's practice, with Charlie Coyle moving to the second unit, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: After a fast start (five points in his first seven games), Charlie Coyle has just two points in his last eight contests, and this move won't help.

Wild's Coyle Scores Third Goal

News: Charlie Coyle scored his third goal of the season in Monday's win over Philadelphia. It was just his second point in the last eight games.
Analysis: The 21-year old rookie has been getting playing time on the top two lines, but has been quiet the last month after a fast start (five points in his first seven games). Hopefully this goal gets his offense going.

Wild's Coyle Scores Game-Winner Friday

News: Charlie Coyle's second goal of the season proved to be the game-winner against the Panthers on Friday.
Analysis: The Wild jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but after a third period comeback by the Panthers, Charlie Coyle found the net after Mikko Koivu hit him with a pass in front of the crease a little more than midway through the final period. The 21-year-old rookie now has two goals and two assists through eight games this season.

Wild's Coyle Adds Assist In Shootout Win

News: Charlie Coyle notched an assist in Wednesday's shootout win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Charlie Coyle has been fairly productive since returning from injured reserve Nov. 1, scoring a point in three of the five games he's played. With the Wild apparently committed to using him on the top line for now, he should be able to keep his scoring relatively staple working alongside Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise.
