Gomez Signs PTO With Blues

News: Scott Gomez accepted a professional tryout offer with the Blues on Thursday, Andy Strickland of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
Analysis: After failing to garner a contract in free agency for the second straight offseason, Scott Gomez will again head to training camp on a PTO, as he did last season in New Jersey. Though he wasn't able to crack the Devils' Opening Night roster, he continued to work out with the team after the tryout period ended and was eventually signed to the team when injuries opened up an opportunity in late November. Gomez would end the season as one of the more productive contributors on the offensively challenged Devils, finishing third on the team with 34 points. The Blues boast a far deeper roster of forward talent, but with the news surfacing after Gomez's signing that Patrik Berglund would miss at least four months following shoulder surgery, an opening on the third line could exist for the 35-year-old.

Gomez Will Not Return To Devils Next Season

News: The Devils will not attempt to re-sign Scott Gomez in the offseason, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The Devils are likely trying to get younger. Unfortunately, the 35-year-old Scott Gomez simply doesn't fit into those plans. However, someone will likely take a chance on the veteran forward, as he has been able to remain relatively productive even as he has gotten up there in age. He managed to tally 34 points in 58 games with the Devils in 2014-15, and can still serve as a valuable offensive contributor when healthy.

Devils' Gomez Rattles Off Two Assists

News: Scott Gomez picked up two assists -- one on the power play -- Thursday in a loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: After he had a great game Tuesday against the Rangers, but was rewarded with just one point and a minus-2 rating, it had to feel good for Scott Gomez to have a better statistical game despite not necessarily playing quite as well. He's now collected 34 points in 57 games since returning to New Jersey during the season.

Devils' Gomez Handed 15 PIM In Win

News: Scott Gomez recorded 15 PIM in Friday's win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: A rough night for Scott Gomez, who was ejected after replying to an Alexei Emelin hit with a brutal elbow. With 31 points in 54 games, the 35-year-old remains a decent point producer who can pile up assists at a level that warrants a look in some deeper leagues.

Devils' Gomez Scores In Loss

News: Scott Gomez provided the team's lone goal in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Scott Gomez has managed just seven goals, but he's quietly recorded 30 points in 49 games thanks to 23 assists. While the 35-year-old is clearly no longer in his prime years, he's been able to work his way on to the score sheet regularly enough to merit some consideration in deeper leagues.

Devils' Gomez Collects Two Assists

News: Scott Gomez collected two assists in Friday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Skating on the top line with Steve Bernier and Adam Henrique, Scott Gomez is now up to 29 points in 47 games. While his best years are behind him and he's managed just 54 shots on goal all season ,the 35-year-old is showing he can still put up points. He has 11 points in his last 17 games, so if you're looking for a decent assist man in a deeper league, Gomez could be your guy.

Devils' Gomez Notches Two Assists

News: Scott Gomez dished out a pair of assists in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Scott Gomez has had some trouble finding the back of the net himself, but he's still been productive as he's added nine helpers in 15 games. The 35-year-old's late start to the season has limited him to just 42 games, but he's been able to contribute on a regular basis with 26 points and over 17:00 worth of ice time per game.

Devils' Gomez (Illness) Will Play Friday

News: Scott Gomez (illness) will play Friday against the Bruins, Tom Glitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez indicated he believed the illness was either food poisoning or a minor bout with the flu, but it will not prevent him from taking the ice Friday. He should be fine to place in lineups moving forward.

Devils' Gomez (Flu) Questionable For Friday

News: Scott Gomez (flu) is questionable for Friday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: After Scott Gomez missed morning skate, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said the veteran center is "very questionable". If Gomez can't go, both Michael Ryder and Martin Havlat figure to join the lineup, following Thursday's trade of Jaromir Jagr to the Panthers.

Devils' Gomez Extends Streak With Goal

News: Scott Gomez notched his fifth goal of the season in Monday's 3-0 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: While it was just his first goal since Jan. 9, Scott Gomez has been heating up lately as he's gotten on the scoresheet in three straight and five of his last six. The 35-year-old has been working at a consistent pace since signing in December as he's grabbed 23 points in just 36 games, and could be worth a look in deeper leagues while he's rolling.

Devils' Gomez Picks Up Power-Play Assist

News: Scott Gomez picked up a power-play assist in Saturday's loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Scott Gomez's continued presence in a top-six role speaks to the Devils' lack of forward talent rather than representing a deserved appointment for the aging veteran. He thrived initially upon joining the team's active roster in December, but has been sputtering since late January. Gomez has no goals, four assists, and only 10 shot attempts over his last nine games.

Couple Of Assists For Devils' Gomez

News: Scott Gomez handed out two assists in Monday's 5-2 triumph over the Sharks.
Analysis: Don't look now, but the 35-year-old has nine points in his last eight games, three of which were multi-point efforts. Skating primarily on a line with Adam Henrique and Jaromir Jagr or Steve Bernier (since Jagr has been out with an illness), life is good right now for Scott Gomez, and there could be some fantasy value to be harvested here if you feel like taking a flyer. If you decide to take the plunge, just be ready to pull the plug as soon as he cools off, since the point-per-game pace is't likely to continue.

Devils' Gomez Assists Twice In Win

News: Scott Gomez picked up two assists in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Scott Gomez's career looked to be on life support after initially losing out on a roster spot with the Devils out of training camp, but he's helped revive a moribund offense since signing a contract with the team in early December. He's produced four goals and 14 points over 21 games, solidifying himself as a top-six forward for the squad.

Devils' Gomez: Three-Point Night

News: Scott Gomez delivered three points -- one goal and two assists -- in New Jersey's 5-2 win over Philadelphia on Saturday night.
Analysis: He has 10 points in 16 games after putting up just 12 in 46 games the previous season. He is skating with Adam Henrique and Jaromir Jagr, and that trio was potent on Saturday night. Take a flyer on him -- you can get him on the cheap.

Devils' Gomez Tallies Two More Points

News: Scott Gomez scored a goal and chipped in an assist in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: The comeback parade continues for the veteran, who now has six points over his last five games. The 34-year-old even potted a nifty goal in the shootout and fired four shots on goal, flashing a glimpse of the Scott Gomez of old. We wouldn't shake up our roster to make room for him just yet, but if you need some scoring and can acquire him without dropping a more valuable player, the former 84-point man makes for an interesting flier.

Devils' Gomez Picks Up First Points

News: Scott Gomez factored in on both of his team's goals with two assists in Monday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The two points were Scott Gomez's first of the season after being signed by the Devils last week. The 34-year-old hasn't recorded more than 15 points in any of the last three seasons so there may not be much here, but he should continue to feel more comfortable with his new mates the more games he plays.

Gomez Skates Huge Minutes In Devils Return

News: Scott Gomez spent 22:10 on the ice Tuesday in his first game back with the Devils, but went scoreless along with the rest of the team. He managed one shot on goal and one hit while winning just eight of 20 faceoffs.
Analysis: Not the most inspiring start to Scott Gomez's second go-'round with New Jersey, as that's a lot of ice time for not a lot of stats, but the fact that he skated such heavy minutes does offer a small amount of promise for fantasy owners.

Devils Sign Gomez To Contract

News: The Devils officially signed Scott Gomez to a contract on Monday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez had originally failed to make the Devils' opening night roster after being invited to training camp with the team. However, Gomez continued to practice with the team and due to several injuries, he was given a contract and will likely play in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Gomez played last season with the Panthers and only managed two goals and 10 assists in 46 games played.

Unsigned Gomez Biding More Time With Devils

News: Scott Gomez, who was participating in New Jersey's training camp on a professional tryout basis, failed to make the Opening Night roster, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. He will, however, stick around with the team, despite not having a contract.
Analysis: The Devils came away highly impressed with Scott Gomez's performance during training camp, but the lack of available spots at forward resulted in him getting caught up in a numbers game. He'll likely stick around with the team for another week or so to stay in shape in the event an injury strikes the team's forward ranks. Gomez's affinity for the organization from his time there during the Devils' two Stanley Cup runs likely motivated his decision to continue practicing with the team, rather than pursuing an opportunity elsewhere.

Devils Tryout Gomez Available Saturday

News: Scott Gomez (wrist) will be available to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez downplayed the severity of the injury and was able to take part in a scrimmage Friday, suggesting that his health won't factor into the Devils' decision on whether or not to include him on their Opening Night roster. He's likely battling Jacob Josefson and Steve Bernier for two of the three remaining roster spots that are up for grabs.

Gomez' Roster Spot In Jeopardy After Wrist Injury

News: Scott Gomez did not skate Monday so that he could rest the wrist injury he suffered earlier in the preseason, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez scored two goals in the Devils' preseason game against the Flyers on Sunday, but the wrist injury is threatening his chances of getting a contract offer and a spot on the team. He has had an ice pack on his wrist throughout the preseason, and there are concerns from teammates and management that his injury will prevent him from earning a second stint with the Devils, where he started his career in 1999. Even if Gomez does make the team, he has not eclipsed more than 15 points in the last three seasons or played in more than 46 games in any of those campaigns, so he'd be unlikely to have much value in anything other than deep leagues.

Gomez On Scoresheet For Devils

News: Scott Gomez grabbed an assist in Friday's preseason shootout loss to the Islanders and is hoping to impress enough to earn a roster spot.
Analysis: Scott Gomez is attending training camp on a tryout basis but there are not many roster spots available amongst New Jersey's forward corps. His assist came on the power play and he's always been a good playmaker in his career but there is no guarantee of a roster spot. Even if Gomez makes the team, there's little assurance he will see significant ice time.

Gomez Gets Tryout With Devils

News: Scott Gomez will attend Devils' training camp on a tryout basis, reports Tom Gulitti of The Record. He hopes to follow a path similar to that of Petr Sykora, who attended Devils' camp on a tryout in 2011 and ended up making the team.
Analysis: Scott Gomez played sparingly last season in Florida, recording two goals and 10 assists in 46 games. He admitted to Gulitti that he'd thought about retiring at points last season, but realized he still had something to give when he did see playing time late in the season. "I've still got a lot to prove," said Gomez. "I still want to play. There's a lot of hockey left." He's working with Vladimir Bure, the Devils' former fitness consultant and the man who helped him prepare for his Calder-winning rookie season. Still, that alone won't win him a job. "There's nothing guaranteed," continued Gomez. "I've got to make them keep me."

Panthers' Gomez Out With Illness Thursday

News: Scott Gomez (illness) will not play Thursday against the Maple Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The illness seems to be passing around the team, as forward Krys Barch and goalie Dan Ellis will also be unavailable Thursday for the same reason. With only Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets remaining on the schedule, we may seen the last of Scott Gomez this season.

Gomez To Stay With Panthers After Clearing Waivers

News: Scott Gomez will stay with the Panthers after clearing waivers Wednesday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers waived Scott Gomez on Tuesday in preparation of the trade deadline, but with the team actually subtracting two players (Marcel Goc, Tim Thomas) and adding just one (Dan Ellis), Gomez won't have to go to AHL San Antonio. Though he'll remain with the parent club, expect the rebuilding Panthers to make it priority to give ice time to their younger centers rather than the 34-year-old Gomez.
