Devils' Gomez Tallies Two More Points

News: Scott Gomez scored a goal and chipped in an assist in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: The comeback parade continues for the veteran, who now has six points over his last five games. The 34-year-old even potted a nifty goal in the shootout and fired four shots on goal, flashing a glimpse of the Scott Gomez of old. We wouldn't shake up our roster to make room for him just yet, but if you need some scoring and can acquire him without dropping a more valuable player, the former 84-point man makes for an interesting flier.

Devils' Gomez Picks Up First Points

News: Scott Gomez factored in on both of his team's goals with two assists in Monday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The two points were Scott Gomez's first of the season after being signed by the Devils last week. The 34-year-old hasn't recorded more than 15 points in any of the last three seasons so there may not be much here, but he should continue to feel more comfortable with his new mates the more games he plays.

Gomez Skates Huge Minutes In Devils Return

News: Scott Gomez spent 22:10 on the ice Tuesday in his first game back with the Devils, but went scoreless along with the rest of the team. He managed one shot on goal and one hit while winning just eight of 20 faceoffs.
Analysis: Not the most inspiring start to Scott Gomez's second go-'round with New Jersey, as that's a lot of ice time for not a lot of stats, but the fact that he skated such heavy minutes does offer a small amount of promise for fantasy owners.

Devils Sign Gomez To Contract

News: The Devils officially signed Scott Gomez to a contract on Monday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez had originally failed to make the Devils' opening night roster after being invited to training camp with the team. However, Gomez continued to practice with the team and due to several injuries, he was given a contract and will likely play in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Gomez played last season with the Panthers and only managed two goals and 10 assists in 46 games played.

Unsigned Gomez Biding More Time With Devils

News: Scott Gomez, who was participating in New Jersey's training camp on a professional tryout basis, failed to make the Opening Night roster, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports. He will, however, stick around with the team, despite not having a contract.
Analysis: The Devils came away highly impressed with Scott Gomez's performance during training camp, but the lack of available spots at forward resulted in him getting caught up in a numbers game. He'll likely stick around with the team for another week or so to stay in shape in the event an injury strikes the team's forward ranks. Gomez's affinity for the organization from his time there during the Devils' two Stanley Cup runs likely motivated his decision to continue practicing with the team, rather than pursuing an opportunity elsewhere.

Devils Tryout Gomez Available Saturday

News: Scott Gomez (wrist) will be available to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez downplayed the severity of the injury and was able to take part in a scrimmage Friday, suggesting that his health won't factor into the Devils' decision on whether or not to include him on their Opening Night roster. He's likely battling Jacob Josefson and Steve Bernier for two of the three remaining roster spots that are up for grabs.

Gomez' Roster Spot In Jeopardy After Wrist Injury

News: Scott Gomez did not skate Monday so that he could rest the wrist injury he suffered earlier in the preseason, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez scored two goals in the Devils' preseason game against the Flyers on Sunday, but the wrist injury is threatening his chances of getting a contract offer and a spot on the team. He has had an ice pack on his wrist throughout the preseason, and there are concerns from teammates and management that his injury will prevent him from earning a second stint with the Devils, where he started his career in 1999. Even if Gomez does make the team, he has not eclipsed more than 15 points in the last three seasons or played in more than 46 games in any of those campaigns, so he'd be unlikely to have much value in anything other than deep leagues.

Gomez On Scoresheet For Devils

News: Scott Gomez grabbed an assist in Friday's preseason shootout loss to the Islanders and is hoping to impress enough to earn a roster spot.
Analysis: Scott Gomez is attending training camp on a tryout basis but there are not many roster spots available amongst New Jersey's forward corps. His assist came on the power play and he's always been a good playmaker in his career but there is no guarantee of a roster spot. Even if Gomez makes the team, there's little assurance he will see significant ice time.

Gomez Gets Tryout With Devils

News: Scott Gomez will attend Devils' training camp on a tryout basis, reports Tom Gulitti of The Record. He hopes to follow a path similar to that of Petr Sykora, who attended Devils' camp on a tryout in 2011 and ended up making the team.
Analysis: Scott Gomez played sparingly last season in Florida, recording two goals and 10 assists in 46 games. He admitted to Gulitti that he'd thought about retiring at points last season, but realized he still had something to give when he did see playing time late in the season. "I've still got a lot to prove," said Gomez. "I still want to play. There's a lot of hockey left." He's working with Vladimir Bure, the Devils' former fitness consultant and the man who helped him prepare for his Calder-winning rookie season. Still, that alone won't win him a job. "There's nothing guaranteed," continued Gomez. "I've got to make them keep me."

Panthers' Gomez Out With Illness Thursday

News: Scott Gomez (illness) will not play Thursday against the Maple Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The illness seems to be passing around the team, as forward Krys Barch and goalie Dan Ellis will also be unavailable Thursday for the same reason. With only Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets remaining on the schedule, we may seen the last of Scott Gomez this season.

Gomez To Stay With Panthers After Clearing Waivers

News: Scott Gomez will stay with the Panthers after clearing waivers Wednesday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers waived Scott Gomez on Tuesday in preparation of the trade deadline, but with the team actually subtracting two players (Marcel Goc, Tim Thomas) and adding just one (Dan Ellis), Gomez won't have to go to AHL San Antonio. Though he'll remain with the parent club, expect the rebuilding Panthers to make it priority to give ice time to their younger centers rather than the 34-year-old Gomez.

Panthers Place Gomez On Waivers

News: Scott Gomez was placed on waivers Tuesday, Pierre Lebrun of ESPN reports.
Analysis: It is unclear what to make of this move at the moment since the Panthers are likely to be involved in a bevy of transactions during the next 48 hours. Regardless, Scott Gomez has been in and out of the lineup for the Panthers this season, registering one goal and seven assists in 29 games.

Three-Game Point Streak For Panthers' Gomez

News: Scott Gomez has notched an assist in each of his last three games.
Analysis: Scott Gomez served as a healthy scratch for a game while he was in the midst of the scoring streak, but it didn't do much to deter his production. When in the lineup, Gomez has seen most of his usage on the fourth line while playing less than 15 minutes, making it difficult to count on him continuing the point streak much further.

Panthers: Gomez To Play First Game of 2014

News: Scott Gomez will play his first game of the new year Friday night according to George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez has not played a game since Dec 28 and has been a healthy scratch for 29 of the Panthers' last 36 games. However, Aleksander Barkov is out of the lineup with a leg injury and Gomez will center Brad Boyes and Sean Bergenheim in his place. Do not expect much from Gomez on Friday.

Panthers' Gomez Back In Saturday

News: Scott Gomez will return to the lineup Saturday against Detroit, Harvey Fialkof of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: It's unclear just how much ice time he'll see, as the Panthers could give Scott Gomez more minutes than the man he's replacing, Krys Barch, but it's hardly a guarantee.

Panthers' Gomez A Healthy Scratcch ON Sunday

News: Scott Gomez will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game, The Gazette's Dave Stubbs reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez has just one assist in the four games he's played since returning from a groin injury and is now sitting for a seventh straight game. He'll take a break Sunday to rest and clear his head and perhaps he'll be back in the lineup during the week.

Panthers' Gomez Notches Assist In Return

News: Scott Gomez (groin) returned from injury Friday to notch an assist in an overtime loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Scott Gomez saw 16:33 of ice time after missing the previous seven games with a groin injury. It's possible that Gomez had been healthy for a few days already, as he may have only entered the lineup Friday because of injuries to Thomas Kopecky (hand) and Jesse Winchester (lower body). Even if he does remain in the lineup going forward, Gomez seems unlikely to ascend into a regular top-six role.

Panthers' Gomez To Miss Sixth Straight Game

News: Scott Gomez (groin) will miss his sixth straight game Tuesday against the Canucks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers previously labeled Scott Gomez as day-to-day with his groin injury, but having not played since Nov. 7 against the Bruins, it appears safe to regard him as out until further notice. Gomez had been an occasional healthy scratch for the Panthers prior to obtaining the injury and could see his minutes fall further as Florida looks to rebuild around younger players.

Panthers' Gomez Day-To-Day With Groin Injury

News: Scott Gomez has missed to the last three games due a to a groin injury and is currently listed as day-to-day, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It was initially believed that Scott Gomez was being punished for poor play as he had gone scoreless in his last eight games. However, the veteran forward is taking his time to ensure that his groin is healthy before returning to the lineup. Despite some mild success early this season, Gomez is barely roster worthy in the deepest of leagues even when he is healthy.

Panthers' Gomez To Be Healthy Scratch Tuesday

News: Scott Gomez will be a healthy scratch for the Panthers on Tuesday as they take on the Oilers, reports George Richards of the Miami Herald.
Analysis: Scott Gomez has struggled for the Panthers as of late, failing to register a point in the last six games. It's been a long time since he was a strong fantasy asset.

Panthers' Gomez Seeing Time On First Line

News: Scott Gomez has ascended into a first-line role with the Panthers, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The 33-year-old Scott Gomez has warranted the promotion by contributing a goal and two assists in five games while serving as a key veteran presence on a young team. Now that he'll be given the opportunity to continue to work with budding star Jonathan Huberdeau and Kris Versteeg, Gomez should attract some more attention in deeper leagues.

Gomez Scores For Panthers

News: Scott Gomez, who's scored just two goals in each of the last two seasons, picked up the Panthers' first marker of the year in Thursday's season-opening win over Dallas.
Analysis: He won just five of 14 face-offs, but the offensive contribution is certainly a pleasant surprise for the Panthers. Scott Gomez is a guy to monitor in fantasy in case he suddenly undergoes a career renaissance, but that doesn't seem terribly likely.

Gomez To Play Mentorship Role With Panthers

News: Scott Gomez will be counted on to provide leadership to a very young Panthers team in 2013-14, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: With 15 points in 39 games last season, the 33-years-old Alaskan native is no longer the premier playmaker he was with New Jersey. Nevertheless, Scott Gomez has been brought in by the Panthers this off-season to mentor young players like Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad, and Drew Shore. Gomez is expected to center Florida's third or fourth line and may see time on the second power-play unit this season.

Panthers Agree To A One-Year Deal With Gomez

News: Scott Gomez agreed to a one-year deal with the Panthers worth $900,00 on Wednesday, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Scott Gomez played with San Jose last season where he recorded 15 points and a minus-10 rating. While he's not the elite playmaker he was earlier in his career, he does provide the Panthers with added experience at the center position.

Gomez Has Multi-Point Night For San Jose

News: Scott Gomez had two assists and a plus-2 rating in the San Jose loss to Los Angeles on Thursday.
Analysis: Those two assists are Scott Gomez's first points of the postseason. With Raffi Torres, Martin Havlat, and Adam Burish out, Gomez will need to take on a bigger role in the Sharks' offense this series. He has the potential to do so with 101 points in 144 career playoff games.
