Guite Heads Overseas

News: Ben Guite signed a deal with HC Pusteral of the Italian Serie A League on Wednesday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Ben Guite hasn't appeared in the NHL since playing in six games for the Predators in 2009-10. Even once the lockout ends, he could opt to remain overseas.

Sharks Reassign Guite

News: Ben Guite cleared waivers and subsequently was sent down to AHL Worcester, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The Sharks appear to have given Ben Guite an honest look after signing him to a one-year contract this past July. But considering he's only drawn into 175 games at the NHL level since his draft year of 1997, he stands a better chance of picking up ice time in the minors.

Sharks Bring Guite Out West

News: The Sharks signed Guite to a one-year contract Friday, according to the Contra Costa Times.
Analysis: Guite will fill a depth role, likely from the AHL. He did score 47 points for Springfield last season, but if he couldn't make his mark with the Blue Jackets there's little reason to think he'll end up on a scoring line with a more powerful team like the Sharks. He's also 32, so there's little upside here either.

Jackets' Guite Placed On Waivers

News: Guite was placed on waivers by the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Analysis: Assuming he clears, he'll be sent down to AHL Springfield.

Ben Guite Update

News: The Blue Jackets have signed Guite to a one-year contract, the Sports Network reports.
Analysis: Guite, who spent most of this past season in the AHL, gives the Blue Jackets some added forward depth/experience, but there's not much fantasy upside to be had here.

Guite leaves Colorado for Nashville

News: The Predators signed free agent forward Ben Guite to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Guite has spent the last three seasons with the Avalanche. He totaled 45 points (19 goals) in 168 games. Guite appeared in only 50 games last season, totaling five goals and 12 points. Guite could provide some lower-line depth for Nashville, but he won't have any Fantasy appeal Draft Day.

Guite headed for free agency

News: The Sports Xchange reports captain Joe Sakic is the most prominent of the eight Avalanche players who are eligible for unrestricted free agency, and goalie Peter Budaj is the most significant of four players who could become restricted free agents. The other unrestricted free agents are goalie Andrew Raycroft, defenseman Daniel Tjarnqvist, forwards Tyler Arnason, Ben Guite, Ian Laperriere, Per Ledin and Brian Willsie. The other restricted free agents are forwards T.J. Hensick, David Jones, Cody McCormick and Cody McLeod.
Analysis: Guite can be a useful fourth-line center, but he also can easily be replaced. He had just five goals and seven assists in 50 games last season. Guite likely will have little to no Fantasy value heading into 2009-10.

Guite sneaks in fifth goal

News: Avalanche RW Ben Guite scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Sunday's game against the Canucks. Guite made it 2-0 in the second with a quick shot from inside the left faceoff circle that went between the legs of both defenseman Willie Mitchell and goalie Roberto Luongo. It was his fifth goal and first since March 8.
Analysis: Guite has a pair of multi-point games in 2008-09, but too bad he has just 11 points on the year. Guite is not an every-game player and has minimal Fantasy appeal when healthy.

News: Avalanche C Ben Guite (illness) did not return to the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. He has missed the last four games and remains questionable heading into Thursday.
Analysis: Guite is having a hard time overcoming this illness, but he is hardly being missed in Fantasy. Guite is not an every-game player and has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Guite still out sick

News: Avalanche C Ben Guite (illness) was scratched Saturday against the Penguins for the third time after becoming ill Monday night. He could return to the lineup Tuesday at Columbus.
Analysis: Guite often rotates as the team's fourth-line center when healthy and hardly helps out on the offensive end. It's still safe to ignore him in most Fantasy formats.

Guite, Tucker skate before practice

News: The Rocky Mountain News reports that Avalanche RW Ben Guite (ribs) and LW Darcy Tucker (knee) skated before practice Monday.
Analysis: Both Guite and Tucker have minimal value in Fantasy play, so don't worry too much about their expected return dates.

Guite placed on IR for Avs

News: The Colorado Avalanche called up Brian Willsie from its AHL affiliate on Saturday and placed center Ben Guite on injured reserve because of a rib injury.

Guite not back in uniform

News: Avalanche RW Ben Guite did not return to the lineup Thursday against the Flames because of a rib injury. He has not played since getting injured in practice Nov. 10, but might return Saturday against the Kings.
Analysis: Coach Tony Granato said Guite will accompany the team on their two-game road trip, possibly signaling a return for the fourth-line center. When healthy, Guite is a low-end Fantasy reserve since he doesn't get much PT.

Sakic, Guite out Tuesday

News: The Rocky Mountain News reports that Avalanche C Joe Sakic (back) and RW Ben Guite (rib) will both miss Tuesday's game at Calgary.
Analysis: Sakic's back injury is lingering around and who knows when he'll be ready to return. Thursday looks like a possibility, but you're better off playing it safe and benching him for Fantasy Week 7 (Nov. 17-23). Sakic remains a must-start Fantasy option when healthy. As for Guite, he is a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy, as he plays less than 10 minutes a game.

Guite does some skating Saturday

News: The Sports Xchange reports Avalanche C Ben Guite (ribs), who was injured in practice Nov. 10 and is out indefinitely, did some skating on Saturday in Denver.
Analysis: The fact that Colorado still lists Guite as out indefinitely is not good as we head into Week 7 (Nov. 17-23). The Avs' fourth-line center should continue to be kept reserved in Fantasy. When healthy, he is a low-end Fantasy reserve since he doesn't get much PT.

Guite might have broken ribs

News: The Denver Post reports that Avalanche RW Ben Guite is out indefinitely with what could be broken ribs sustained Tuesday at practice.
Analysis: Guite showed decent offensive touch in 2007-08 with 11 goals and 11 assists, but hasn't managed to crack the Avs lineup much yet this season. Continue to ignore him in all formats, healthy or not.

Guite scores on goalie's error

News: Ben Guite and Milan Hejduk scored for the Avalanche during a 6-2 loss to the Blackhawks Monday. Guite scored the lone goal of the first period with 3:38 left on a shot Nikolai Khabibulin misplayed. Guite's 40-foot drive from right wing struck Khabibulin's stick, then rolled under him and over the goal line. It was Guite's second goal of the season.
Analysis: Guite now has four points in the seven games he has dressed this season. He is no longer an every-game player since Colorado is trying to find ways to get Cody McCormick in the lineup. Guite has decent offensive skills, but without a regular lineup spot, he remains a low-end Fantasy reserve.

Guite scores from 60 feet

News: Avalanche RW Ben Guite scored a goal and finished at plus-1 in 10:27 of ice time Tuesday against the Flames. Guite's 60-foot one-hop wrist shot was muffed by Miikka Kiprusoff 11:18 into the third period for his first goal of the season.
Analysis: Guite showed decent offensive touch in 2007-08 with 11 goals and 11 assists. He continues to center the team's checking line, but hardly goes to the penalty box. He is not your typical checking forward and has little to no Fantasy value at this time.
