Sabres' Kotalik Might Be Europe Bound

News: The Sabres are attempting to reach an arrangement allowing Ales Kotalik to play in Europe this season, the Associated Press reports. Kotalik cleared waivers earlier this week, but did not report to AHL Rochester.
Analysis: Ales Kotalik was part of a summer deal that was really centered around bringing veteran blueliner Robin Regehr to Buffalo from the Flames. No one seems to want Kotalik, the former sniper with the booming shot who has 20-plus goals three times in his career. Make sure he's nowhere near your draft board.

Sabres' Kotalik Clears Waivers

News: Ales Kotalik has cleared waivers and was assigned to Rochester (AHL) on Monday, the Sabres' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: He may get back to Buffalo at some point this season, but the salary cap is a big factor with Ales Kotalik being on the roster and ultimately, he may spend most of the year with Rochester.

Sabres Waive Kotalik

News: Ales Kotalik was placed on waivers on Saturday, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: The Sabres need to get under the cap and there were no takers for Ales Kotalik in a trade. Scratch him from your draft list.

Kotalik Returns To Buffalo In Trade With Flames

News: Kotalik was traded to Buffalo from Calgary on Saturday along with Robyn Regehr and a second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Chris Butler and Paul Byron.
Analysis: Buffalo likely wanted little to do with Kotalik, but it needed to take on his contract to make the deal work. Kotalik played the best hockey of his career during his first stint in Buffalo, but we aren't counting on much during his second tour of duty.

Calgary Sends Kotalik To AHL

News: Kotalik was sent to the AHL on Thursday, Toronto Globe & Mail writer James Mirtle reports.
Analysis: Kotalik was sent down due to the return of Daymond Langkow.

Kotalik Tallies In Return To Flames

News: Kotalik scored a goal and an assist in his first game back with the Flames on Thursday against the Avs.
Analysis: The Flames put together a nice game against a weakened opponent, scoring five goals. They draw Anaheim on Saturday, perhaps another good scoring opportunity.

Flames' Kotalik Clears Waivers, Recalled From AHL

News: The Flames recalled Kotalik from AHL Abbotsford on Wednesday, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik has cleared waivers and should get another chance with Calgary now that David Moss is dealing with an ankle injury.

Kotalik On Re-Entry Waivers With Flames

News: The Flames put Kotalik on re-entry waivers from Abbotsford of the AHL on Tuesday, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: This was obviously done in the wake of the David Moss injury. If Kotalik clears waivers, and he will, he'll almost certainly get on the ice right away for the Flames. He had four goals and 19 points in 18 games in the AHL.

Calgary's Kotalik Clears Waivers

News: Kotalik cleared waivers Thursday, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Kotalik's contract was a bit pricey for the (lack of) production he offered, so it's not surprising that no teams wanted to pick up the tab.

Flames Put Kotalik On Re-Entry Waivers

News: The Flames have placed Kotalik on re-entry waivers, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: As noted in the report, NHL teams can submit a claim for Kotalik by Thursday morning and only be on the hook for half of his salary, currently valued at $3 million per season and through 2011-12.

Flames Kotalik Could Be Europe Bound

News: Kotalik said he plans to play in Europe if the can't cut it in Calgary next season, the Calgary Sun reports. "If I get the opportunity to get back there (to Calgary), it would be great. If not, it would probably be my last couple months in North American hockey," Kotalik told the Abbotsford News.
Analysis: Kotalik is just 32, but he's a long way removed from his 20-goal seasons in Buffalo. Injuries haven't helped, and we'd be surprised if he regains fantasy value in NHL circles again.

Calgary's Kotalik Clears Waivers

News: Kotalik cleared waivers and landed in the AHL, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Kotalik had just three points (all goals) through 20 games this year, so the 32-year-old predictably didn't drum up much interest across the league.

Flames Waive Kotalik

News: The Flames have placed Kotalik on waivers, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik has turned in just three goals for his only points this season. Of course, apologists of the winger will be quick to blame a knee injury, which forced Kotalik to the long-term injured reserve in early October, limiting him to 20 games to date.

Flames' Kotalik Comes Up With Deciding Goal

News: Kotalik scored a game-winning goal on the power play Friday against the hosting Senators.
Analysis: Kotalik, who made his season debut December 5, is staying healthy but only has two goals -- both game-winners -- for his only points in 16 contests. That is not what you want to see from your fantasy players, but Kotalik is starting to be more active with the puck, as evidenced by his 19 shots on goal in five January games.

Flames' Kotalik Finally Records A Point

News: Kotalik put the puck past Ryan Miller during a 5-2 win over the Sabres on Monday. It was his first point all season.
Analysis: Of course, by all season we mean 10 games, as Kotalik's 2010-11 campaign has been shortened thanks to a knee injury that he sustained in preseason. Since Kotalik is only averaging 11:34 of ice time per game, it's best to leave him alone in fantasy leagues until he can work with more shifts.

Flames' Kotalik Blanked On All Six Shot Attempts Thursday

News: Kotalik came up empty Thursday despite six shot attempts during the Flames' eventual 3-2 SO win over the Stars.
Analysis: Kotalik has gone without any goals or helpers through nine games this season, but we're starting to see him more active shooting the puck as of late. It's been a rough first half of the season for Kotalik since he's battled through knee problems and the obvious inability to produce offensively.

Flames' Kotalik To Watch Monday's Game From The Pine

News: Kotalik will be held out of Monday's contest against the Wild, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik has not registered any points in seven games following a serious knee injury this season, which seems to be a driving factor in coach Brent Sutter's decision to scratch him for the night. "We're in a situation where we have to win hockey games," said Sutter. "We need to dress the lineup that we think is the best lineup for that night. Kotes has probably fought it a little bit." It's safe to sever ties with Kotalik while he's cold and watching from the press box.

Flames' Kotalik Finally Returns

News: Kotalik returned from a knee injury, making his season debut in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Kotalik's first game of the season ended up as an extremely physical contest. Nineteen total penalties were called, with Kotalik himself getting a two-minute call for delaying the game when he sent the puck over the boards. He only received 8:30 of ice time in the game, but that number figures to rise once he shakes off any rust caused by his sprained knee.

Flames' Kotalik Ready to Go Following Knee Injury

News: Kotalik (knee) could rejoin the Flames at any time, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik reportedly could make his season debut as soon as Friday night in Minnesota, but that might depend on whether or not Curtis Glencross ultimately gets disciplined for a cross-checking penalty which occurred Wednesday night against Vancouver. Either way, it appears that Kotalik is inches away from a return.

Flames' Kotalik Could Return Very Soon

News: Kotalik (knee) could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday against Vancouver after participating in Sunday morning drills, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Once Kotalik officially returns, the Flames should get a capable scorer and playmaker. However, from the standpoint of a fantasy player, we recommend giving yourself plenty of time to see how he responds from ligament damage in his knee before picking him up in fantasy leagues. Remember, he has yet to play this season, so consider being optimistically cautious with Kotalik.

Flames' Kotalik Close to Returning from Knee Injury

News: Kotalik (knee) is expected to return as soon as next week, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Kotalik has yet to play this season with a sprained knee that forced him to the long-term IR. When healthy, he can contribute on the power play, which has been an Achilles' heel for the Flames, a team that has failed to win its past three road games.

Flames' Kotalik Not Skating Yet

News: Kotalik (knee) hasn't started skating yet, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: On the bright side, Kotalik has shed his knee brace, so perhaps skating isn't too far off.

Flames Place Kotalik on Long-Term IR

News: The Flames have placed Kotalik on long-term IR due to a sprained knee, SLAM! Hockey reports.
Analysis: He wasn't going to be back anytime soon, but now that's locked in for at least 10 games and 24 days. At this time, the team doesn't think the hard-shooter's injury will require surgery, so he could be back near the time he's eligible. Kotalik only had 27 points between 71 games with the Flames and Rangers last season.

Flames' Kotalik Probably Starting the Year on Injured List

News: Kotalik's leg injury has been classified as a knee injury and he'll probably begin the year on the injured list, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: The Flames look to have five forwards all hurt for their season opener on Thursday.

Flames' Kotalik Out Indefinitely

News: Kotalik, who suffered an apparent leg injury in Friday's game, is out indefinitely, AOL FanHouse's Chris Botta reports.
Analysis: The Flames haven't released any details about Kotalik's injury, so this is pretty much all we have to go on right now.
