Stars Waive Krahn

News: The Stars waived Krahn on Thursday, ESPNDallas.com reports.
Analysis: The move means the Stars have settled on Andrew Raycroft as their backup goaltender. "Brent beformed very well but ultimately we had to get down to two goalies here," coach Marc Crawford said. "We still think he has a very bright future." He'll be assigned to the AHL if he clears waivers.

Stars' Krahn Stays Level with Raycroft

News: Krahn allowed two goals on 13 shots in Dallas' 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
Analysis: Krahn and Andrew Raycroft both allowed two goals, and the battle between the two for Kari Lehtonen's scraps will likely linger for the duration of the preseason.

Dallas' Krahn Gets Chance to Earn Backup Job

News: Krahn will battle Andrew Raycroft for the backup netminder duties, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Krahn has battled injuries throughout his career after being an early first-round selection several years back, but had a solid season for the Texas Stars in the AHL last season. There could be opportunity behind oft-injured Kari Lehtonen, though Krahn's injury history is nearly as lengthy.

Krahn stays with the Stars

News: The Stars signed goaltenders Brent Krahn and Matt Climie to one-year, two-way contracts Tuesday. Both players made their NHL debuts with the Stars last season, and each spent time in both the American Hockey League and the ECHL.
Analysis: Krahn, 27, appeared in his first NHL game with Dallas on Feb. 14 at Chicago. He played in six games with the Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) during the 2008-09 season before being assigned to the Chicago Wolves on Dec. 12, 2008. He played in 13 games for Chicago, posting a 6-6-0 record with two shutouts, a 2.11 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Krahn is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Krahn returned to Chicago (AHL)

News: The Dallas Morning News reports the Stars recalled Tobias Stephan from Bridgeport of the AHL and sent Brent Krahn back to Chicago of the AHL Tuesday.
Analysis: Krahn made just one appearance with the Stars, allowing three goals on nine shots in relief of Marty Turco Feb. 14 against the Blackhawks. Krahn is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Krahn makes debut in NHL

News: Dallas' Marty Turco started his 26th straight start game against the Blackhwaks in as 6-2 loss to extend his franchise record. He made 24 saves on 27 shots through two periods, including several difficult stops, as Chicago dominated. Brent Krahn replaced Turco to start the third period and make his NHL debut. He permitted three goals on nine shots.
Analysis: Welcome to the NHl Mr. Krahn. Don't allow three goals per period from now on. Not an impressive debut, although it was a relief outing. Krahn was recently sent up from the AHL as the Stars wanted to switch out backup Tobias Stephan. Don't own Krahn unless something happens to Turco.

Stars add Krahn to bench

News: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Stars switched backup goalies Friday by sending Tobias Stephan to Bridgeport of the AHL and recalled Brent Krahn from Chicago of the AHL.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Krahn has gone 4-3 in eight games for Chicago with a 2.28 GAA and a .910 save percentage. he earned his first shutout since 2007 on Saturday when the Wolves blanked the Houston Aeros, 3-0. Krahn is nothing more than organizational depth and has little to no Fantasy value.

Krahn is 4-2 with Quad City (AHL)

News: Flames G Brent Krahn has made just six appearances for Quad City (AHL) since being activated from the injured reserve on Nov. 12. He is 4-2 with 2.15 GAA. His most recent result was a loss on Dec. 1 in which he allowed three goals while making 25 saves.
Analysis: Krahn is waiting for his chance to crack the NHL roster but it won't happen until an injury befalls Curtis McElhinney. Even when that happens, he likely won't see much time backing up Miikka Kiprusoff. He is merely a long-term keeper at this juncture.

Knee limiting Krahn in preseason

News: Prospect Brent Krahn (knee), who was expected to battle Curtis McElhinney for the backup job to starter Miikka Kiprusoff, appears to be well behind in the race. That's because he has been limited to a pesky knee injury during the preseason.
Analysis: While McElhinney has a 3.53 GAA so far during the preseason, Krahn is more and more likely to start the season at the AHL level since he has been unable to show what he can do. Neither Krahn or McElhinney will have much Fantasy appeal with the bull Kiprusoff in front of them and wanting to play nearly every game.

Krahn battling a sore knee

News: Brent Krahn, locked in a training camp battle with Curtis McElhinney for the backup job to Miikka Kiprusoff, is battling a sore knee. He was unable to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Krahn is considered the better prospect of the two netminders. However, whichever goalie wins the job will still have very little Fantasy appeal in weekly formats since Miikka Kiprusoff is very durable and plays 70-75 games per season.

G Krahn nursing a sore knee

News: The Calgary Herald reports Brent Krahn was unable to practice on Thursday due to a sore knee. He missed the past three days of prospects camp due to the nagging injury. He is battling Curtis McElhinney for the backup job to Vezina Trophy nominee Miikka Kiprusoff.
Analysis: If the Flames decide Krahn or McElhinney can't cut the mustard, they might bring back veteran Jamie McLennan, who parted ways with Metallurg Magnitogorsk after signing with the Russian team during the offseason. The winner of the job will see very little playing time unless Kipper suffers a long-term injury.

Brent Krahn to get a chance

News: Jamie McLennan, formerly of the Calgary Flames, has signed a contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Russian Super League according to the Calgary Herald. "My agent had conversations with (NHL) teams," McLennan said, "but nothing concrete came about, so it was tough to wait. There (are) a lot of great goalies still available. As far as the Flames, it's a great opportunity for one of the young guys (either Brent Krahn or Curtis McElhinney) to step up and show their stuff. When you have Kipper, it will be nice for a young guy to learn from him."
Analysis: McLennan was unable to find work to serve as a backup for an NHL team. The good news is that he will not have to serve his four-game suspension for slashing Detroit's Johan Franzen in the playoffs back in April. So Krahn or McElhinney will battle during the preseason for the backup job to Miikka Kiprusoff. Neither of the two are worth anything more than consideration in long-term Fantasy keeper leagues and the deepest of average formats.

Brent Krahn assigned to ECHL

News: Krahn was assigned to the ECHL on Monday.
Analysis: Krahn is no longer considered a top prospect in the Flames system.
