Ducks Waive LaBarbera

News: Jason LaBarbera was waived by the Ducks on Monday and later reassigned to AHL Norfolk, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Activated from injured reserve last Thursday, Jason LaBarbera acted as the Ducks' backup for two games before he was given his walking papers. With Ilya Bryzgalov now ready to play after finishing his conditioning stint with Norfolk, LaBarbera looks like he'll remain with the organization as strictly a depth goalie.

Ducks Activate LaBarbera

News: Jason LaBarbera (hand) was activated from injured reserve Thursday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The Ducks indicated just eight days earlier that Jason LaBarbera would miss two-to-three weeks with a broken bone in his hand, so his early activation could just be a paper move in anticipation of Ilya Bryzgalov's promotion to the Ducks. Even if LaBarbera is truly healthy, Bryzgalov's larger cap hit virtually guarantees that he'll be the team's top backup once he gets some conditioning under his belt, ensuring that LaBarbera's stay with the Ducks will be a short one. That being said, the Ducks will play back-to-back games over the weekend, meaning LaBarbera could get the start in one of the games before departing for the minors.

Ducks' LaBarbera (Hand) Out 2-3 Weeks

News: Jason LaBarbera is out two-to-three weeks with a broken bone in his hand, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: In the wake of the injuries to Jason LaBarbera and John Gibson (groin), the Ducks will audition veteran backstop Ilya Bryzgalov, who figures to sign with the team shortly. Even if Gibson doesn't beat LaBarbera back from IR, the Ducks could simply opt to keep rolling with Bryzgalov as their backup if he proves serviceable.

Ducks' LaBarbera Dealing With Upper-Body Injury

News: Jason LaBarbera is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Eric Stephens of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: When Jason LaBarbera's injury occurred is unknown, but it could cause the Ducks to call up someone from AHL Norfolk. Rickard Rakell could draw into the lineup Monday if LaBarbera is unavailable.

Ducks' LaBarbera Solid In Relief Duty Saturday

News: Jason LaBarbera stopped all 15 shots he faced in relief of Frederik Andersen in Saturday's loss to San Jose.
Analysis: While Jason LaBarbera looked good Saturday, he won't see much action behind starter Frederik Andersen. While LaBarbera might get a rare start at some point, he will return to being the third-stringer once John Gibson (groin) returns form injury.

Ducks' LaBarbera Fills In Again Sunday

News: Jason LaBarbera stopped 12 of 14 shots in relief of Frederik Andersen in a 6-2 loss to the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera had to come in for Andersen on Thursday as well. It's a bit alarming for Andersen owners that he's having a tough time, but he still has a solid record and is the go-to guy in net on a really good team.

Ducks' LaBarbera Earns Win In Relief

News: Jason LaBarbera stopped 14 of 16 shots in relief Wednesday against the Kings, earning the victory in a shootout.
Analysis: Thrust into the rivalry game midway through the second period after Frederik Andersen yielded three goals, Jason LaBarbera didn't exactly shut down the Kings, but was able to pick up the win when two late Anaheim goals extended the game to overtime. LaBarbera would then deny Anze Kopitar in the shootout to lift the Ducks to a come-from-behind win. Despite the respectable performance Wednesday, LaBarbera's career track record wouldn't suggest he's deserving of extended playing time, so look for the Ducks to continue to start Andersen on a near-every game basis.

Ducks' LaBarbera Takes OT Loss

News: Jason LaBarbera stopped 33 of 36 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera was in tough from the get-go in a last-minute starting nod coupled with the absence of stars Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf (both had the flu). The journeyman performed well and allowed the Ducks to grab a point, but his role going forward remains largely that of a third-stringer, as the team is expected to make a move for another netminder with John Gibson (groin) recently being ruled out for six weeks.

Ducks' LaBarbera Leads Team Out For Warmups

News: Jason LaBarbera led the Ducks out on the ice for pregame warmups, suggesting he'll start in goal for their matchup with the Islanders, Lance Pugmire of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera drew the unexpected start Sunday after regular goalie John Gibson sustained a groin injury, and will get his second straight starting nod after picking up the win Sunday. Though Gibson has since been moved to IR, Frederik Andersen (leg tightness) was deemed healthy enough to back up LaBarbera for Wednesday's contest. It looks like it's only in an effort to ease Andersen back into action coming off the injury, so it doesn't look like LaBarbera will see much long-term run as the No. 1 goalie beyond Wednesday's outing.

Ducks' LaBarbera Makes 16 Saves In Win

News: Jason LaBarbera stopped 16 of 18 shots in Sunday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera made an unexpected start Sunday after John Gibson was scratched due to a lower-body injury sustained during pregame warmups. Considering the fact that LaBarbera was playing in his third game in three days after starting Friday and Saturday for AHL Norfolk, he acquitted himself quite well after a couple of hiccups in the first period. With both Gibson and Frederik Andersen (leg tightness) also listed as day-to-day, LaBarbera is currently the No. 1 goalie in Anaheim for the moment. He'll provide some immediate fantasy value behind a rock-solid Ducks team while he sticks around in a starting role, but once Andersen and Gibson return, the 34-year-old veteran will be sent back to Norfolk.

Ducks' LaBarbera Starting In Goal Sunday

News: Jason LaBarbera will start in goal Sunday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera, who was just recalled from AHL Norfolk earlier in the day, will draw the start in place of expected starter John Gibson. The veteran LaBarbera has 182 NHL games under his belt and owns a career 2.86 goals against average.

Ducks' Labarbera Recalled From AHL Norfolk

News: Jason LaBarbera was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Monday.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera has appeared in 182 career NHL games, posting a 60-73-19 record with six shutouts and a 2.86 goals-against average. With Frederik Andersen (leg) considered day-to-day, Labarbera will serve as the primary backup to John Gibson in the short term.

Ducks Reassign LaBarbera

News: The Ducks reassigned Jason LaBarbera to AHL Norfolk on Monday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Labarbera filled in for John Gibson as Frederik Andersen's backup for a while, but will return to the minors, where he's expected to spend most of the season.

Ducks Recall LaBarbera From AHL

News: Jason LaBarbera was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Wednesday by Anaheim.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera was signed in the offseason to serve as a mentor the Ducks' two young goalies, Frederik Andersen and John Gibson, but was never a serious threat to see regular action with the parent club. He'll just stick with the Ducks through the weekend, as the organization looks to have Gibson pick up some playing time in a short-term stay at Norfolk. The 34-year-old appeared in seven games for the Oilers last season, posting a 1-3 record with a 3.28 GAA and .870 save percentage.

LaBarbera Signs With Ducks

News: The Ducks have signed Jason LaBarbera to a one-year, $750,000 contract, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With Jonas Hiller no longer in the mix, the 34-year-old Jason LaBarbera -- who has 182 career NHL games under his belt -- gives the Ducks an experienced netminding option to go along with promising youngsters Frederik Andersen and John Gibson.

LaBarbera Recalled By Chicago

News: The Blackhawks have recalled Jason LaBarbera from AHL Rockford, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera, who went 15-15-12 with a 2.94 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 32 games with Rockford this season, gives the Hawks an emergency backup option, now that his team's AHL season is done.

Blackhawks Reassign LaBarbera to AHL Rockford

News: Jason LaBarbera was reassigned to AHL Rockford on Saturday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera wasn't expected up for long as the team was simply waiting for both Corey Crawford and Nikolai Khabibulin to get healthy. With Crawford back now, his time is up. LaBarbera was 1-3-0 with a 3.27 GAA and .970 save percentage over seven appearances (four starts).

Hawks Recall LaBarbera

News: The Blackhawks recalled Jason LaBarbera from AHL Rockford on Thursday.
Analysis: The veteran net minder will be brought up to replace Kent Simpson as Antti Raanta's backup while Corey Crawford and Nikolai Khabibulin are both injured. Once Crawford or Khabibulin returns, Jason LaBarbera will almost certainly be returned to Rockford, but he might see some action for the time being.

Oilers Ship LaBarbera To Blackhawks

News: The Oilers traded Jason LaBarbera to the Blackhawks on Saturday for future considerations, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: With Ilya Bryzgalov activated from IR on Saturday, the Oilers had no need to carry Jason LaBarbera as an extra goalie. Although No. 1 netminder Corey Crawford is currently sidelined for the Blackhawks, LaBarbera will only function as a minor league depth for the Blackhawks in the time being, as he was quickly assigned to AHL Rockford after the trade was completed.

Oilers Recall LaBarbera

News: The Oilers recalled Jason LaBarbera from AHL Oklahoma City on Monday.
Analysis: The addition of Jason LaBarbera to the roster is a sign that Ilya Bryzgalov, who suffered a head injury Sunday, will miss some time. Assuming that is the case, expect Devan Dubnyk to serve as the primary goaltender, and LaBarbera his backup, until Bryzgalov is able to return.

Oilers' LaBarbera Clears Waivers

News: Jason LaBarbera cleared waivers Tuesday, Tim Wharnsby of CBC reports.
Analysis: No team was willing to take a gamble and pick up Jason LaBarbera after he posted a 3.69 GAA and .858 save percentage over six games with the Oilers. With Ilya Bryzgalov now in the fold in addition to the presence of Devan Dubnyk and Richard Bachman on the active roster, LaBarbera looks to be no better than the fourth-best goalie option in the organization. He'll head to AHL Oklahoma City.

Oilers' LaBarbera Placed On Waivers

News: Jason LaBarbera was placed on waivers by the Oilers on Monday.
Analysis: Jason LaBarbera is the latest change in a re-shuffling effort by the Oilers to shore up issues defensively that have happened this season. He has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.69 GAA and an .858 save percentage in six games. With the Oilers bringing in Ilya Bryzgalov, LaBarbera could be headed to the AHL instead if he clears waivers.

LaBarbera Sees Emergency Duty For Oilers

News: Jason LaBarbera came on in relief of injured starter Richard Bachman late in the first frame of Edmonton's contest with Detroit Saturday. He allowed three goals on 22 shots in just over 46 minutes of crease time.
Analysis: Our best advice for fantasy owners looking for goaltending help is not to shop in Edmonton. Jason LaBarbera's composite numbers are ruinous (3.69, .858) and the team isn't going to win many games.

Oilers' LaBarbera Languishes Against Former Team

News: Jason LaBarbera surrendered five goals on 27 shot attempts in Saturday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: In spite of his poor work in goal, Jason LaBarbera was actually on the verge of a win at one point in the third period before the Coyotes besieged him for two late power-play goals. By failing to make the most of the start against his former team, LaBarbera failed to make up any ground in his battle with Devin Dubnyk for No. 1 goalie duties.

Oilers To Start LaBarbera On Saturday

News: Coach Dallas Eakins said Jason LaBarbera is on track to start Saturday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Barring a last-minute change of heart, it sounds like Eakins will go with Jason LaBarbera on Saturday while Devin Dubnyk will receive the start in goal Sunday against the Kings. Dubnyk has gathered the last four starts and gone 2-2 to tighten his grip on the No. 1 job, but LaBarbera could reenter the conversation with a strong performance against the surging Coyotes, who have scored four-plus goals in three consecutive games.
