News:Manny Legace has agreed to join Springfield of the AHL, MassLive.com reports.
Analysis:Manny Legace has played in 118 games for Springfield over the course of his career. He will provide some depth at goaltender with the Springfield's parent NHL club, Columbus, dealing with several injuries at the same position.
News: The Canucks released Manny Legace on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider on their roster and plenty of younger goaltending options in the minors, the Canucks couldn't find room for Manny Legace. Don't be surprised if the veteran goaltender explores overseas options.
News:Manny Legace accepted an invite from the Canucks to training camp, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis:Manny Legace played last season in Germany and was expected to return to Europe before receiving the invite from Vancouver. With Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider, Legace is a long shot to make the final roster. More than anything, he should be viewed as insurance for the Canucks in case a goaltender suffers an injury or the team decides to trade Schneider.
News: The Isles released Legace Sunday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Dean McAmmond, Krys Kolanos, Jed Ortmeyer, and Anders Eriksson were also released as the Islanders come closer to reaching their opening night roster.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace backed up Cam Ward during Thursday's 5-2 win over the Canadiens. Legace skated off the ice Tuesday midway through the second period against the Lightning due to an undisclosed injury. He was listed as day to day.
Analysis: Legace wasn't seeing many starts since the return of Ward, and has gone 1-1-2 in his last five starts. He remains a low-end Fantasy flier. The Hurricanes TG is at best a No. 2 option.
News: An injury to Manny Legace forced the Hurricanes to bring Cam Ward off the bench during a 8-5 win against the Lightning on Tuesday. Legace skated off the ice midway through the second period with an undisclosed injury and is listed day to day. He made nine saves and left with a 5-2 lead, but Ward ended up with the win as Tampa Bay eventually scored five times. Ward finished with 23 saves on 26 shots.
Analysis: Legace probably would have picked up the win Tuesday had he stuck around. Unfortunately, this is all too familiar of a situation. Injuries have been the unraveling of Legace's career, and now he could finish the 2009-10 season on the injured list. Legace wasn't seeing many starts since the return of Ward, so he remains a low-end Fantasy flier. The Hurricanes TG is at best a No. 2 option.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace had 32 saves during a 4-3 shootout loss to the Senators on Thursday. Erik Karlsson scored his second goal of the game with 7.7 seconds remaining in regulation to draw the Senators even at 3. Alexei Kovalev and Jason Spezza scored in the shootout, as no Carolina skater beat Brian Elliott.
Analysis: Legace jumped back in net Thursday after watching Cam Ward win his first two games since returning from a back injury. It seems Carolina will once again lean on Ward despite the fact he might suffer a setback with his injury. Legace continues to have low-end Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is at best a No. 2 option when Ward is healthy.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace stopped 39 shots Saturday in a 4-0 loss to Atlanta.
Analysis: Legace has only won once since March 7, but should get the majority of the starts down the stretch for Carolina. Unfortunately, the Canes aren't very good, so Legace might not win much. Think of both him and the Hurricanes TG as just low-end options.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace gave up two goals in the first 10 minutes of Thursday's game against the Captials, but stoned them the rest of the way, as Carolina won 3-2 in a shootout. Legace made 41 saves.
Analysis: Legace won for the first time in his last five starts. He's is likely to split time with Justin Peters until, or if, Cam Ward (back) returns this season. Legace continues to have low-end Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is also a low-end option without Ward.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made 24 saves during a 3-2 loss to the Lightning on Tuesday. Martin St. Louis scored his second goal of the game 29 seconds into overtime to lift Tampa Bay past Carolina. St. Louis skated into the Hurricanes' zone from center ice, made a backhand pass to himself past a Carolina defender and then beat Legace with a wrist shot. Legace held a 2-1 lead in the third period before Steve Downie tied the game at 13:03 on the power play.
Analysis: Legace is winless in his last five appearances, but only three of them have been full games. Legace was injured on Saturday against Pittsburgh and had to be removed after facing eight shots. Legace then came off the bench Sunday to relieve Justin Peters. Legace is likely to split time with Peters until, or if, Cam Ward (back) returns this season. Legace continues to have low-end Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is also a low-end option without Ward.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace, who suffered a lower-body injury on Saturday against the Penguins, had to come off the bench on Sunday against the Sabres. Legace replaced Justin Peters at the 8:45 mark of the second after Peters couldn't stop Toni Lydman's wrist shot on a 2-on-1. Buffalo had built a 4-0 lead after that goal. Carolina scored three of the final four goals, but it wasn't enough to get past the Sabres. Legace finished with five saves.
Analysis: It seems the injury Legace sustained on Saturday wasn't enough to keep him sidelined. We are sure Carolina would have liked to keep Legace on the bench Sunday, but at least he was healthy enough to play in a pinch. Legace will continue to share time in net with Justin Peters until Cam Ward (back) is healthy. Legace continues to have low-end Fantasy appeal.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace exited in the second period Saturday with an unspecified lower body injury, shortly after being leveled during a scramble in front of the net. Legace needed several minutes to get to his feet after being upended by a hit from Penguins forward Tyler Kennedy, who was called for goaltender interference at 6:43 of the period. Legace was checked by trainers and initially stayed in the game, although he appeared to be shaken up. Legace left the ice when play stopped again 49 seconds later and was replaced by Justin Peters. Legace stopped all eight shots he faced in the game.
Analysis: Legace had been shelled in his previous two games, allowing four and five goals. He's only getting regular starts with Cam Ward injured, so he didn't have a great deal of Fantasy value prior to getting hurt himself. If both Legace and Ward are out, Justin Peters will get the starts in Carolina. Regardless, Peters is at best a No. 3 goalie. The TG is a No. 3 option as well until Ward returns.
News: The Bruins tickled the twine five times against Hurricanes G Manny Legace in Tuesday's 5-2 victory. Legace made 32 saves. He has allowed nine goals in his last two games.
Analysis: Legace is 0-1-1 after winning his previous five starts. He's only started four of Carolina's eight games since the Olympic break, so he's not going to give you a lot of starts. Legace only has low-end Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is just a low-end No. 2 option.
News: The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Hurricanes G Manny Legace will start Tuesday against the Bruins.
Analysis: Legace has been playing some great hockey over the last few weeks with five wins in his last six games. He's keeping Justin Peters from stealing starts and is certainly worth a look in deeper Fantasy leagues. Unfortunately, Carolina faces both Pittsburgh and Washington in Week 22 (March 15-21), so Legace is clearly a bit of a risky play. The Hurricanes TG is just a low-end option for now.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made 35 saves but Carolina still fell to the Capitals 4-3 in overtime. Tomas Fleischmann scored at 3:20 of the extra period to end the game. Legace had won his five previous starts.
Analysis: Legace has played well filling in for Cam Ward, winning five of six starts. With the Hurricanes pretty much out of the playoff race, barring a miracle March, management might not see the need to get Ward back on the ice in a lost season. Legace could be a nice pickup in deeper leagues right now. The Hurricanes TG remains a low-end No. 2 option.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made it five wins in a row Sunday as he made 27 saves in a 4-0 shutout win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Legace has filled in nicely for the injured Cam Ward, with one goal or less allowed in three of his last five contests. With the Hurricanes pretty much out of the playoff race, barring a miracle March, management might just let Ward heal up the rest of the way. Legace might be a nice pickup in deeper leagues right now, but you likely won't want to start him in Fantasy Week 21 (March 8-14), as Carolina plays Washington, Pittsburgh and Phoenix. The Hurricanes TG, usually a low-end No. 2 option, shouldn't be used for the scoring period, either.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace stopped 25 of 26 shots in Thursday's win over the Senators. Legace has won each of his last four starts.
Analysis: Legace has won four straight starts and has put the Carolina coaching staff at ease with Cam Ward potentially out the rest of the season. It will be interesting to see what happens during the Olympic break. At this rate we envision Legace continuing to see the bulk of starts with Ward sidelined. However, if it is a lost season, then Carolina might play prospect Justin Peters a bit more. Legace is still a low-end Fantasy option but worth grabbing in larger formats. The Hurricanes TG is also a low-end start.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made 29 saves during a 4-3 overtime win against the Sabres on Thursday. Legace fell into an early 2-0 hole in the first period before Carolina scored three unanswered goals. Buffalo forced overtime as Derek Roy tied it with 7:07 left in the third by beating Legace with a backhander. Sergei Samsonov then won it 1:47 into overtime.
Analysis: Legace improved his career record against Buffalo to 5-0 by beating the Sabres for the second time in a week. He has won three straight starts and has put the Carolina coaching staff at ease with Cam Ward potentially out the rest of the season.
News: Carolina G Manny Legace was sharp in net on Tuesday and was able to pull the win over the Florida Panthers. Legace stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced in the game and won 4-1. The only goal he allowed came in the second period by Cory Stillman.
Analysis: Legace is splitting time in net with Justin Peters as Cam Ward tries to get healthy. He has two starts thus far in February and has won both of them, allowing a total of four goals. His record improves to 6-6-3 with the win. Due to his splitting with Peters, Legace only has low-end Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is just a low-end No. 2 option.
News: The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Hurricanes G Manny Legace will start on Tuesday vs. Florida.
Analysis: Legace beat Buffalo on Friday before taking a seat on Saturday as Justin Peters picked up his first NHL win. Cam Ward might not play in Fantasy Week 19 (Feb. 8-14), so expect Legace and Peters to split the three games Carolina has in the scoring period. With two starts no guarantee for either, Legace and Peters will be just very risky starts in just the deepest of leagues. The Hurricanes TG is just a low-end No. 2 option.
News:Jussi Jokinen snapped a third-period tie and added an assist, and backup Manny Legace made 28 saves in the Carolina Hurricanes' 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Legace started in place of Cam Ward, who was sent home for treatment on an upper-body injury. Coach Paul Maurice said Ward, who played in 26 of the previous 27 games after returning from a leg laceration, stiffened up on the team's flight from Calgary to Buffalo following a loss Wednesday night. Legace trailed 3-2 in the third period before Carolina scored twice in the final 12 minutes.
Analysis: Appearing in just his fifth game in the last 28, Legace experienced a scare before the game even started. In pregame warmups he was stunned by Aaron Ward's slap shot, and was down on the ice clutching his upper chest area for a couple of minutes before skating off. Can you imagine how much of a panic Carolina would have been in had they lost two goalies in one day? Luckily, Legace is OK and even got the win. Ward could play before the Olympic break, but Legace should do most of the work while he is out. He remains a low-end Fantasy flier. The Hurricanes TG is a No. 2 option when Ward is healthy.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace was back on the bench on Wednesday against the Rangers after missing one game with pink eye.
Analysis: Legace played a lot earlier in the season when Cam Ward was sidelined by injury. However, he has mostly stayed on the bench since Ward's return. That will only change in the event Ward gets injured again. It's safe to ignore Legace in most Fantasy formats.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace did not dress for Sunday's win over Boston as he continues to deal with pink eye.
Analysis: When healthy, Legace only spells No. 1 Cam Ward on occasion and can continue to be ignored in all but the deepest of formats.
News: Carolina G Manny Legace lasted just 6:36 of Saturday's loss to the Flyers before leaving with an eye injury related to a recent bout with conjunctivitis. He made six saves and allowed one goal before being replaced by Cam Ward.
Analysis: Legace is now 4-6-3 on the season with a GAA over three. He only spells No. 1 Cam Ward on occasion and can continue to be ignored in all but the deepest of formats.
News: Carolina G Cam Ward allowed four goals on Montreal's first seven shots attempted Wednesday and was removed from the game before the 1st period came to a close. His replacement in goal, Manny Legace, fared better but not that much. Legace allowed another goal to score in the 1st period and coughed up two for the night. He stopped 16 of 18 shots. The Hurricanes lost the game 5-1.
Analysis: Ward has been really bad this year and his record now falls to 4-13-4. Legace hasn't been much better at 4-6-3. Ward has been better than his record suggests but is still a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option, at best. Legace is worth less than that. The Hurricanes TG remains just a low-end option until Carolina starts winning again.
News:Cam Ward stopped 21 of 26 shots for the Hurricanes before he was replaced by Manny Legace in the third period of a 6-3 loss to the Panthers on Friday. Legace faced two shots, allowing one goal -- a short-handed tally from Dominic Moore. Ward held a 1-0 lead in the second period before Florida took a commanding lead with six unanswered scores.
Analysis: We are not surprised that Legace was rusty coming off the bench cold on Friday. He has really hit a bad spot in his career since last season and is no longer an elite netminder. He has won the backup netminder job in Carolina, but that is not saying a lot. Legace has marginal Fantasy appeal.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made 35 saves Saturday as Carolina fell 4-2 to the Senators, ending Legace's two-game win streak.
Analysis: With Michael Leighton being sent down, Legace has sewn up the No. 2 spot in Carolina now that Cam Ward is back. Once Ward gets the rust off, Legace will only start once in a while, so only stash him on your bench in super-deep leagues. The Hurricanes TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option until the wins really start to pour in.
News:Manny Legace stopped 30 shots, Ray Whitney had the decisive goal and an assist and the Hurricanes won on the road for the first time this season by holding off the Penguins 3-2 on Monday night. Sidney Crosby and Mike Rupp scored less than a minute apart in the second, but the Penguins couldn't do any other damage against Legace, who turned aside Crosby and Jordan Staal during the final 10 seconds to preserve only the second victory in seven games for Carolina. Legace is 4-0 in his career against Pittsburgh, which lost its second in a row at home after winning five straight. "Our guys just weathered the storm," Legace said. "You knew it was coming. You know it's going to come three or four times against these guys."
Analysis: Legace picked a funny time to get hot for the Hurricanes. He has won his last two starts, but it comes as Cam Ward is set to return from a leg laceration on Wednesday. The good news for Legace is that he beat out Michael Leighton for backup duty. The bad news is Ward pretty much starts every night when he is healthy, so Legace will probably be a seldom-used backup. He still has minimal Fantasy appeal. The Hurricanes TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option until the wins really start to pour in.
News:The Raleigh News and Observer reports the Hurricanes have placed backup goalie Michael Leighton on waivers Wednesday in anticipation of removing Cam Ward from injured reserve, so he can play Wednesday against the Devils. Ward has been out since Nov. 7 because of a leg laceration. "We've identified Manny Legace as being ahead of Michael," general manager Jim Rutherford said. "That's our decision for now, but we will deal with this on a week-to-week basis and see where this is going. Michael has played some good games for us. From a team viewpoint, he has not gotten a lot of help. Both goalies have given us some good games with Cam out."
Analysis: Legace hasn't been much better than Leighton since signing with the club in November, but at least he has more wins. Legace is 3-4-2 with a 3.20 GAA and .894 save percentage. Ward pretty much starts every night when he is healthy, so Legace will probably be a seldom-used backup. He still has minimal Fantasy appeal.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace made 33 saves Saturday as he ended a three-game losing streak in Carolina's 5-3 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: Legace might be out of a job when Cam Ward comes back from his leg injury, but the veteran has outplayed usual backup Michael Leighton, so he could stick around the rest of this season. Only worry about him in the deepest of leagues as a low-end bench option. The Hurricanes TG is just a No. 3 option until Ward returns.
News: The Hurricanes' official Web site reports that G Cam Ward (leg) practiced fully Thursday. You tend to forget that its been over three weeks since Ive seen a shot, said Ward. Youd think that it would take some time to get your reaction back, but quite honestly I felt pretty comfortable out there in the net, and hopefully I can get a few more good practices in the next few days. The Hurricanes and Ward are now targeting a return date of Dec. 9 at New Jersey.
Analysis: Ward will have been out just over a month by the time he returns and will obviously be pretty rusty, so you might not want to risk using him in Fantasy Week 10 (Dec. 7-13). We suggest giving him a couple of starts to get back in a groove and then using him in all formats for the following scoring period. Of course, if you're desperate for goalie help, then by all means take a shot with him next week. The Hurricanes TG might recover its value as a No. 2 option right away. With Ward's return, Michael Leighton and Manny Legace will go back to being mostly non-factors in Fantasy play.
News: The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Hurricanes G Michael Leighton will get a second straight start Monday when Carolina hosts the Capitals.
Analysis: Leighton has been splitting starts with Manny Legace since Cam Ward went down with a cut leg, but Leighton's stats have been simply awful with his 4.51 GAA and .832 save percentage. The Canes only have two games in Fantasy Week 9 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6), so you should probably just ignore both goalies in the scoring period. The Hurricanes TG is not worth using in any Fantasy format as this point.
News: Rich Peverly scored the fourth of Atlanta's five third-period goals with 6:03 remaining to help the Thrashers rally for a 6-4 victory over Manny Legace and the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. On a seemingly harmless rush, Bryan Little passed the puck back to Peverly, who found open space and snapped it over Legace's shoulder for the winner. Atlanta had scored three goals in 2:39 span to tie it at 4 after trailing 4-1 coming into the third. Legace made 28 saves against the team that cut him during training camp.
Analysis: Legace has lost his last three starts and Friday's performance just goes to show you how far he has fallen in his NHL career. We wouldn't be shocked if Carolina let him go as soon as Cam Ward is healthy. Legace remains a stopgap Fantasy option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option.
News: Carolona G Manny Legace lost his second start in a row on Wednesday, losing to the Ducks 3-2. Legace made 30 saves in the game and allowed three goals in a 3-2 loss. His record dropped to 2-3-2 on the season with the performance.
Analysis: The Hurricanes have been terrible on the road this season and those woes continued on Wednesday at Carolina. Legace will continue to start for the Hurricanes the next few weeks with Cam Ward out, but we warn Fantasy owners to use him just as a stopgap option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option without Ward.
News:Manny Legace made 27 saves while the Hurricanes remained winless on the road this season (0-8-3) during a 2-0 loss to the Stars on Monday. Jamie Benn's goal off a rebound gave Dallas the lead at 9:30 of the first period, 24 seconds after Carolina's Tom Kostopoulos began serving a cross-checking penalty. Brad Richards' shot glanced off the stick of Carolina defenseman Joe Corvo, into the air and over Legace's shoulder at 2:07 of the third period to extend Dallas' edge to 2-0.
Analysis: Legace is 2-2-2 in six outings since joining the Hurricanes after Cam Ward went down with a leg injury. He has pretty much met our expectations as a shaky option in net. Legace will continue to start for the Hurricanes the next few weeks, but we warn Fantasy owners to use him just as a stopgap option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option without Ward.
News: Hurricanes G Manny Legace picked up his second win of the season and second in a row on Saturday, beating the Lightning 3-1. He made 20 saves in the game, allowing just the one goal. His record improved to 2-1-2 with the performance.
Analysis: Legace was much more deserving of his win on Saturday than the win he earned on Thursday in which he allowed five goals. Legace is pretty much just bridging the gap until Cam Ward is able to return from injury and is just a stopgap Fantasy option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option as well.
News:Tuomo Ruutu and Jussi Jokinen scored in the shootout, and Manny Legace and the Carolina Hurricanes rallied from three goals down to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5 on Thursday. After an uneventful overtime, Ruutu and Jokinen beat Jonas Gustavsson with wrist shots and Manny Legace stopped Phil Kessel and Lee Stempniak to preserve his first victory with the Maple Leafs. Legace stopped 27 shots as he rallied from a 3-0 first-period deficit.
Analysis: It wasn't pretty, but Legace finally got his first win in four outings for the Hurricanes. As expected, Legace hasn't been stellar in net for Carolina and is pretty much just bridging the gap until Cam Ward is healthy. Continue to view Legace as a stopgap Fantasy option. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option.
News: Carolina G Michael Leighton, who was on the Canadiens' roster but never played a game at the tail end of the 2006-07 season, started in goal Tuesday against Montreal. Leighton stopped 10 of 11 shots he faced but left the game at the 7:12 mark of the 2nd period after he suffered a lower-body injury. Leighton appeared to have strained his groin while doing the splits to make a save. He was replaced by Manny Legace, who stopped 23 of 24 shots in the game but suffered the shootout loss as he gave up Maxim Lapierre's shootout goal.
Analysis: This was a shame as Leighton actually held a 2-1 advantage before he left the ice. Legace couged up the game-tying goal in the 3rd period and then allowed the shootout goal to score for the loss. Legace's record falls to 0-2-3 on the season as he's yet to win. He's given up nine goals now in two starts and one backup appearance and that won't get the job done. Of course, Leighton hasn't been much better at 1-2-0. It looks like the Hurricanes will just go with whoever's hot between Leighton and Legace, but with the way Carolina has been playing lately, you're better off just avoiding both guys and the Hurricanes TG in all Fantasy formats.
News: The Raleigh News and Observer reports that Hurricanes G Michael Leighton will make a second straight start Tuesday at Montreal.
Analysis: It looks like the Hurricanes will just go with whoever's hot between Leighton and Manny Legace, but with the way Carolina has been playing lately, you're better off just avoiding both guys and the Hurricanes TG in all Fantasy formats.
News:Kyle Okposo snapped a shot past Carolina netminder Manny Legace with 14.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Islanders a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes on Friday. With time winding down in overtime, Hurricanes defenseman Bryan Rodney tried to clear the Carolina zone. Okposo anticipated the play and intercepted the puck before beating Legace blocker side. Legace, making his second start for the Hurricanes since signing Monday, made 21 saves.
Analysis: Legace actually battled back from a 3-0 first-period deficit to make it a game on Friday, but he came up short. It has been very interesting to see Legace make both of the team's starts since Cam Ward went down with a leg injury. It seems coach Paul Maurice really hates Michael Leighton. Legace is merely a stopgap Fantasy option until Ward returns. The Hurricanes TG has low-end Fantasy appeal.
News:Manny Legace stopped 26 shots in his first start with Carolina during a 5-2 loss to the Kings on Wednesday. He was playing for the AHL's Chicago Wolves when the Hurricanes signed him two days earlier to replace Cam Ward, who will miss about four weeks after suffering a deep cut to his left leg in last week's loss at Columbus. It didn't take the Kings long to welcome the veteran goalie back to the NHL -- or to put the Hurricanes in yet another deficit. Ryan Smyth made it 1-0 about 3 1/2 minutes in by backhanding the rebound of Dustin Brown's shot past a sprawled Legace and into an uncovered net for his ninth goal. It was the quickest goal allowed by Carolina this year. The Hurricanes did tie the game at 2 early in the third before Los Angeles went on a three-goal outburst. "I just didn't make a big save in the third period to give our guys a chance to win," Legace said.
Analysis: It's going to be interesting to see how Carolina works the goalie situation with Ward sidelined. Legace and Michael Leighton could battle it out until one of them emerges as a steady option. Regardless, Legace is merely a stopgap Fantasy option for larger formats. He has definitely lost a step in his career. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option until further notice.
News: The Raleigh News & Observer reports that Hurricanes G Manny Legace will start Wednesday against the Kings.
Analysis: Legace was signed Monday and will fill in on occasion for Michael Leighton while Cam Ward is out with his leg injury. He will have minimal Fantasy value for now unless he somehow manages to get the majority of starts in Carolina.
News: The Carolina Hurricanes are turning to veteran goalie Manny Legace to help replace the injured Cam Ward. The Hurricanes on Monday signed Legace to a one-year contract that will pay him $500,000 at the NHL level or $105,000 if he is sent to the minors. Legace will battle Michael Leighton for playing time while Ward is sidelined. Carolina was searching for help in net because Ward will be out for up to four weeks. The 2006 Conn Smythe Trophy winner's leg was cut by a skate Saturday night in Columbus during the Hurricanes' club-record 12th straight loss.
Analysis: The 36-year-old has a career NHL record of 177-92-36 and was 2-2 with a 3.21 goals-against average this season with the AHL's Chicago Wolves. While he does have NHL experience, his game has really fallen off since last season. Legace is merely a stopgap Fantasy option for the deepest of formats while Ward is out. The same goes for Leighton. The Hurricanes TG is a risky option without Ward available.
News:The Raleigh News and Observer reports that minor league goalie Manny Legace could be an option for the Hurricanes with starter Cam Ward expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a leg injury. Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford has not made a decision yet on the team's next move, but the 36-year-old Legace has won 177 NHL games and is currently playing for Chicago of the AHL.
Analysis: Legace is 2-2-1 with a 3.21 GAA and .898 save percentage in six games with Chicago. While he does have NHL experience, his game has really fallen off since last season. If Legace is signed by Carolina, he probably won't fill in full-time and will be just a stopgap Fantasy option. Don't make any roster moves with Legace until further notice.
News: The Chicago Wolves (AHL) recently signed G Manny Legace to a 25-game tryout contract.
Analysis: Legace was cut from Thrashers camp last month and no other NHL team wanted a look. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats for now.
News: The Thrashers have released two players, including goalie Manny Legace. The 36-year-old Legace appeared in one preseason game for Atlanta, stopping 25 of 27 shots against Carolina. He was cut Monday along with forward Dan Fritsche.
Analysis: Legace has appeared in 337 career games with Los Angeles, Detroit and St. Louis. Last season, he played in 29 games for the Blues and 23 for the team's AHL affiliate in Peoria. It was a real shame he couldn't latch on with Atlanta since Kari Lehtonen (back) will likely start the season on IR. Legace might be done in the NHL, but even if he signs with another team, he won't have much Fantasy appeal. Let him sit on Fantasy waivers until further notice.
News:The Sports Xchange reports goalie Manny Legace was considered the Blues' most disappointing player in 2008-09. Legace had a record of 13-9-2 through January, but in early February the club put him on waivers because of off-the-ice issues they had with the goalie. Legace cleared waivers and was assigned to the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria (Ill.) Rivermen. Legace was a model teammate in the AHL and helped lead the Rivermen into the playoffs, but his contract with the Blues expires July 1 and all indications are that he won't be re-signed by the team.
Analysis: Had Legace not gotten injured early in the season, his '08-09 season might have gone differently. But he never really rebounded from the freak hip injury which was a result of him slipping on a red carpet laid out for then vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Some team might take a flier on the veteran Legace in 2009-10, but it will likely be in a backup role. Continue to track his offseason progress, but Legace is likely to have minimal Fantasy appeal Draft Day.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Blues goalie Manny Legace cleared waivers Saturday and will report to Peoria of the AHL, St. Louis' minor league affiliate. "I'll go to Peoria and help them try and win a Cup down there," Legace said. "Helping out (Blues goalie prospect Ben Bishop) down there will be great. Maybe we can bing and bang and win a championship. I don't care where you are... if you can win a championship, it's going to be fun."
Analysis: The 36-year-old goaltender will be a free agent in the offseason, but he could be back on a NHL roster at some point this season. Don't forget he was an All-Star just last season. Perhaps some team in dire need of a veteran goalie will be willing to trade for Legace. "That's where my head has to be... just go down there and play hard and let the chips fall where they may," Legace said. "Then I'll go to free agency next year and see how that goes. I just want to get my game back going." Fantasy owners in the deepest of leagues should hold onto Legace at this time. Otherwise, if you need the roster spot, feel free to drop him.
News:The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Blues goalie Manny Legace was placed on waivers Friday as the team recalled Chris Holt from Peoria of the AHL. Holt will serve as Chris Mason's backup. If Legace is not claimed by another team by Monday, he will be sent to Peoria. "It's extremely tough," Legace said. "You play your heart out for a team, and the minute you hit a little bit of a rough patch, they dump on you. It was very hard to hear." Legace is 13-9-2 this season with a 3.18 GAA and an .885 save-percentage. Blues President John Davidson defended the Blues' actions. "Manny has his own opinions, I'm not going to speak to Manny's opinions. We provided Manny an opportunity to revive his career with the St. Louis Blues... This is about performance, that's what it's about. If Manny had a better season stopping the puck, he wouldn't be going to Peoria -- if he clears waivers - to get back to stopping the puck there."
Analysis: Legace's last appearance with the Blues was Monday against the Red Wings. He was pulled after allowing three goals on his first eight shots. There was much speculation that Legace, who will be a free agent in the offseason, would be on the trading block leading up to the March 4 deadline. It appears a contending team can now snag a veteran goalie without having to give up anything. Legace got off to a decent start this season before suffering a freak hip injury in late October after slipping on a red carpet prior to a ceremonial puck drop. He really never regained his form after that and the door was open for Mason, who was acquired in the offseason. Mason has performed very well as of late and that forced St. Louis to make a move. They did and now Legace awaits his fate. Fantasy owners in the deepest of leagues should hold onto Legace at this time. Otherwise, if you need the roster spot, feel free to drop him and possibly pick up Mason or another Fantasy viable goalie.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Monday's game in Detroit might have been the beginning of the end for Manny Legace in a Blues uniform. Given the start despite the fact that Chris Mason had a 36-save shutout Saturday against Philadelphia, Legace allowed three goals on eight shots and was chased from the game in the second period. The Blues fell 4-3 to the Red Wings in a shootout, and afterward Legace shouldered the blame. "I was the worst player in the league tonight by far," Legace said. "We should have won that game 3-0. The guys played great. I'm the reason that we lost in a shootout." Despite being frustrated with his goaltender, Blues coach Andy Murray stood by Legace. "There's been nights since I've been coaching the Blues where he's been the best man in the NHL," Murray said. "That's how I would counter that."
Analysis: Murray said he gave Legace the start because the Blues were in the midst of back-to-back games, including Tuesday night's game in Columbus, and he felt the goalies should split them. "We need to play both goalies here this week," Murray said. "We have a game Thursday night as well, we have a game Saturday night as well." But with 33 games left and Legace an unrestricted free agent, the Blues may turn their attention to Mason, who has one year left on his contract. Right now, Legace is not a good play in Fantasy, but can be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie at times. He is also a risky option because a trade could render him a backup for a contender.
News: Blues goalie Manny Legace got the start Monday against his former team, the Red Wings, but he didn't finish up in net as Detroit went on for a 4-3 shootout win. Legace was pulled after allowing Marian Hossa to score his second goal 11:21 into the second period. Legace gave up three goals on just eight shots. He stopped both the shots he faced in the first period, but left trailing 3-2 as Chris Mason took over in net. Mason stopped all 13 shots he faced in regulation and overtime, but allowed Jiri Hudler and Marian Hossa to score in the shootout.
Analysis: Legace had some of the best years of his career in net for the Red Wings, but his career has been in decline since joining St. Louis in 2006-07. He has also been an injury-risk player over that span. Legace hasn't seen many appearances after the All-Star break since Mason has been playing so well, and this could just help St. Louis in wanting to deal Legace at the trade deadline. Right now, Legace is not a good play in Fantasy, but can be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie at times. The Blues TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Blues G Manny Legace, who left Monday's game with a groin injury in the first period, practiced in Chicago on Wednesday and dressed as the backup against the Blackhawks on Wednesday.
Analysis: Considering that Legace dressed, he should be good to go after the All-Star break despite the groin injury. His replacement Chris Mason did shut out the Blackhawks on Sunday but that shouldn't factor into the Blues' decision on whether to start or sit Legace. He's a No. 2 option for the next scoring period assuming he returns to play.
News: Blues G Manny Legace left Monday's game at Boston with what the team called a lower-body injury after the 5-4 shootout win. He made one save on two shots in 10:35 but was not saddled with the loss.
Analysis: Legace's 13-9 record this season isn't horrible, but his GAA (3.10) and save percentage (.889) leave a lot to be desired. He is also turning into a pretty injury-prone guy, which is limiting his Fantasy value. Hopefully he can heal up over the All-Star break and get to being a useful No. 2 option, but for now just leave him on the bench or the wire.
News: Blues G Manny Legace made 19 saves and allowed two goals in a 2-1 loss to the Blackhawks on Saturday. Legace had won three of his last four starts coming into the game. He has allowed two goals in his last three games, two of which were losses.
Analysis: It's hard to win if only allowing two goals isn't enough to do the trick. Legace is looking to move out of St. Louis which should motivate him to continue putting up solid numbers in the second half of the season. He should be thought of as a low-end No. 2 option in Fantasy while the Blues TG is a low-end option.
News:Manny Legace stopped 24 shots for the Blues during Thursday's 5-2 win against the Avalanche. St. Louis built a 3-0 lead before Cody McLeod spoiled the shutout 2:18 into the third period. Milan Hejduk got Colorado within 3-2 before St. Louis pulled away. Legace has won three of his last four starts.
Analysis: Legace has allowed two goals in three of his last four starts. He finally seems back to his old self after injuries slowed him early in the season. Wins could still be a little scarce at times, but Legace is playing for his next contract and will be motivated in the second half. View him as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is a low-end option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace made 26 saves during a 2-1 loss to the Oilers Sunday. Legace shutout the Oilers in the first period and had a 1-0 lead before Gilbert Brule tied the game 8:49 into the second period. Sam Gagner scored the winning goal 6:31 into the third period. Legace saw a two-game winning streak end Sunday.
Analysis: Injuries have really sideswiped Legace's season, but he finally seems to be back at 100 percent and is starting most nights for the Blues. The wins might be a little scarce at times, so view him as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is a low-end option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 18 shots during a 6-4 win Friday against the Canucks. Legace battled back from a 2-1 first-period deficit to take a 3-2 lead into the third. Vancouver tied the game at 3-3 and 4-4 before St. Louis took the lead for good with 2:10 remaining. Legace allowed one power-play goal while winning his second straight start.
News: Blues G Manny Legace had to make only 20 stops and saw his team score five goals in a 5-2 win over the red hot Blue Jackets on Saturday. The win improves Legace's record to 11-8-1 on the season. However, the Blues have not been good recently, going 3-10 over their last 13 contests.
Analysis: Legace isn't going to have five goals scored in front of him too many times this season, so he has to take advantage of any big offensive outbursts that come his way. Legace may get traded at some point this season which may increase his worth, but for now he's a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 option. The Blues TG is a low-end option.
News: Blues G Chris Mason stopped 26 shots during Friday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes before he was replaced by Manny Legace with 1:22 remaining. Legace made one save in the 28 seconds he played before skating off for an extra attacker. Mason fell to 3-12-1 for St. Louis, which has dropped 10 of its last 12 overall.
Analysis: Legace had a strong start to the season, but it all went downhill for him when he was injured in a freak accident in late October. He hasn't regained his All-Star form and has become a very risky Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace made 22 saves during a 4-3 loss to the Devils Tuesday. Legace had a 2-1 lead after the first period before New Jersey scored three unanswered goals. The Blues lost for the ninth time in 11 games. "We're in every game. We're playing great hockey," Legace said. "We're playing good. It's just really weird. Can't figure it out."
Analysis: Legace has lost three of his last four starts and has allowed four or more goals in each outing. He seems to be getting most of the starts in net again after Chris Mason was playing well early in December. Legace still could be traded at some point this season, so view him more of a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is a low-end Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace made 25 stops in a 3-2 shootout win over the powerhouse Sharks on Saturday. The win snaps a two-game losing streak for Legace who gave up nine goals over that span.
Analysis: Legace beating the Sharks is certainly an interesting twist but it doesn't really mean all that much to Fantasy owners. Legace remains nothing more than a No. 2 option at goalie and the Blues TG is a low-end No. 2 option as well.
News: Blues G Manny Legace was victimized four times by the Red Wings Tuesday in a 4-1 loss. Legace did have 37 saves, but the Detroit offense was too much for him to deal with. Legace has allowed nine goals in his last two games which were both losses.
Analysis: Legace gives up way too many goals to have all that much value in Fantasy. He isn't the everyday starter and should be reserved for only very deep leagues.
News: Blues G Manny Legace was pulled from his start following the second period Sunday against the Bruins after allowing five goals on 23 shots.
Analysis: Legace had won three of his last four starts before Sunday and things were looking up. Now, his value takes a bit of hit after this latest yanking. The Blues play three times in Fantasy Week 12 (Dec. 22-28), and you have to think Legace might only get one start in the period. Don't use him unless you're in a super-deep league and have no other choice.
News: Blues G Manny Legace allowed only two goals and earned a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in his return from suffering a concussion Nov. 10. Legace came up with 24 saves in the win, improving his season record to 9-5-1.
Analysis: Playing for the Blues, Legace is not likely going to be anything more than a No. 2 goalie despite how well he has played lately. Legace can be started Week 12 (Dec. 22-28) as he is back from the concussion. Consider him a No. 2 option for the week and the Blues TG is a No. 2 option as well.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues G Manny Legace has been diagnosed with a mild concussion sustained on Wednesday night. He will be required to go on IR and will miss a week.
Analysis: Legace missed time earlier this season with a hip injury, but was playing well as of late after having some turbulent times in November. When healthy, Legace is still at best a No. 2 Fantasy goalie, but be sure to bench him for Fantasy Week 11 (Dec. 15-21). The Blues TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option as well.
News: Blues G Manny Legace is listed as day-to-day after getting kneed in the head Wednesday night. Legace was hurt in the first period of a 4-2 loss at Anaheim. He gave up one goal on 11 shots before leaving. The Blues have recalled G Ben Bishop from Peoria (AHL) to cover for Legace.
Analysis: Legace missed time earlier this season with a hip injury, but was playing well as of late after having some turbulent times in November. When healthy, Legace is still at best a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option as well. Don't worry about Bishop, as he'll likely just back up Chris Mason.
News: Blues goalie Manny Legace left Wednesday's game against the Ducks after being kneed in the head late in the first period, and Chris Mason replaced him. Legace faced 11 shots and allowed one goal, and Mason gave up two goals on 24 shots as the Ducks won 4-2.
Analysis: Legace was injured as Bobby Ryan shot from the right circle and George Parros knocked in the rebound at 13:25 for his third goal of the season. After the puck went in, Legace, sprawled on the ice, raised up just as Ryan skated past, and Ryan's knee struck him in the head. The goalie lay on the ice for several moments, then was wobbly when helped off. Legace already missed time earlier this season with a hip injury and it appears he might have to go back on IR. He has been playing well as of late after having some turbulent times in November, but Legace is still at best a No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy. The Blues TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option as well.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 18 shots during a 6-3 win Monday against the Predators. Legace battled back from a 2-1 deficit and allowed just one power-play goal. It was his second straight win.
Analysis: Legace has started the last two games for St. Louis and has won them both. He might finally be winning back coach Andy Murray and his teammates after some turbulent times and comments in November. Legace still could be traded at some point this season and will lose some starts to Chris Mason, so treat him as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace picked up a 4-3 win on Saturday over the Coyotes. He has allowed at leas three goals in his last three games.
Analysis: Legace is a free agent next year so he has a lot to play for in St. Louis. However, he isn't much of a goalie in Fantasy because the Blues don't win all that much. Consider him and the Blues TG a lower-end No. 2 option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace allowed four goals in Saturday's 4-2 loss against Edmonton. He stopped 18 shots in his second straight loss.
Analysis: Legace is in a free-agent year and has a lot to play for. Still, since St. Louis is not a top contender, Legace remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option at best.
News: St. Louis netminder Manny Legace stopped 25 shots on Wednesday night in a loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Legace allowed three goals in the 3-1 loss and fell to 6-4-1 on the year.
Analysis: Legace won in his previous start and has allowed seven goals in his last three. Legace is in a free-agent year and has a lot to play for. Still, since St. Louis is not a top contender, Legace remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option at best.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 26 shots during a 3-2 overtime win Friday against the Ducks. Anaheim appeared to have momentum after Scott Niedermayer capitalized on a wild scramble at the end of regulation, scoring his third goal of the season with only 0.9 seconds remaining. The puck slid between Legace's pads after the Ducks' Corey Perry, perhaps pushed by a Blues' player, fell over backward over the goalie. "I was just fishing for the puck," Niedermayer said. "It just happened to come to my stick."
Analysis: Legace has struggled a bit since returning from a hip flexor injury, but it seems he is finally turning a corner. He has allowed just four goals in his last two outings and has won two of his last three appearances. Legace is in a free-agent year and has a lot to play for. Still, since St. Louis is not a top contender, Legace remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option at best.
News:Alexei Kovalev scored the lone shootout goal past Manny Legace to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night. After the Blues missed on all three of their shots in the tiebreaker, Kovalev beat Legace with a high backhander for the win. Legace allowed two even-strength goals and is winless in five of his last six appearances.
Analysis: The good news here is that Legace has allowed just five goals in his last two outings after allowing seven in his first two since returning from a hip injury. He seems to finally be getting his legs back under him, so consider Legace a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 32 shots during a 4-3 overtime win Friday against the Blackhawks. Legace allowed a short-handed goal and lost a 3-1 lead, but Andy McDonald's power-play score 2:15 into overtime gave him the win. It was his first in five outings.
Analysis: Legace needed that win badly after his first two starts since returning from a hip injury didn't go all that well. Legace looked like his normal self Friday and hopefully it gets his confidence back up. Consider Legace a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Chris Mason made 24 saves during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres in relief of starter Manny Legace, who was pulled after Jason Pominville's goal at 5:18 of the first. Legace allowed three goals on just seven shots in making his second consecutive start after returning from a hip injury. The Sabres chased Legace with the first-period spree in which they scored three times in the first five minutes. Adam Mair got things rolling with his third 2:46 in, and Tim Connolly made it 2-0 at 4:55. Twenty-three seconds later, Pominville's wrist shot from the slot squirted past Legace's pads to end the goalie's night. Mason then allowed just Henrik Tallinder's goal in the third period.
Analysis: It's the second time Legace has been pulled this season. He was yanked after allowing two first-period goals in a game against Los Angeles on Oct. 24. He has lost four straight starts and has allowed seven goals in his first two games back following the injury. Perhaps Legace is a little rusty or not fully recovered. Don't be surprised if Mason is back in net Friday against the Blackhawks. Legace was doing well to open the season and firmly entrenched himself as the team's No. 1 goalie. If he can ever get healthy again, Legace has what it takes to be a reliable No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option as well.
News: St. Louis G Manny Legace came off IR on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Kings but could not avoid losing the game, 5-3. Legace stopped 26 shots in the game but allowed four goals -- the final one coming on an empty net. Legace was seeing his first action since Oct. 24 against the Kings.
Analysis: Legace picked up right where he left off -- losing to the Kings. He's now lost three straight starts and has allowed 10 goals in those starts. He is a No. 2 goalie when healthy, which he should be for Fantasy Week 6 (Nov. 10-16), while the Blues TG is more of a low-end option in deeper formats.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues G Manny Legace worked out after practice Wednesday and could return to action as soon as Saturday.
Analysis: Legace was a very risky start heading into Fantasy Week 5 (Nov. 3-9) and it looks like he might only make one start in the period, so you were probably wise to bench him if you did. He is a No. 2 goalie when healthy, which he should be for Fantasy Week 6 (Nov. 10-16), while the Blues TG is more of a low-end option in deeper formats.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues G Manny Legace did some drills Monday and will go on his team's three-game road trip that begins Wednesday in Anaheim. "I'll practice (Tuesday) and then we'll see how it goes," said Legace.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Blues G Manny Legace (hip) still has not practiced following his fall on a piece of carpet on the ice Oct. 24. Legace remains on injured reserve.
Analysis: The Blues don't play again until Wednesday, so Legace has a few days to rest up before he might return to action. However, he still appears to be too risky of a start Week 5 (Nov. 3-9). He is a solid No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy.
News: Blues G Manny Legace (lower body) missed his third straight game Saturday against Pittsburgh. He was again replaced in net by Chris Mason, who recently returned from an appendectomy. Legace is day to day.
Analysis: The Blues were hoping Legace would be back in net Thursday, let alone Saturday. It appears as though he might need another few days. Legace is 4-2 with a 2.94 goals-against average in six games this season. He sees most of the starts in net when healthy and remains a viable No. 2 Fantasy goalie. He's now a major Fantasy risk for Fantasy Week 5 (Nov. 3-9).
News: Blues G Manny Legace (lower body) missed his second straight game Thursday against the Hurricanes. He was replaced in net by Chris Mason, who just returned from an appendectomy. Legace is day to day and questionable for Saturday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: The Blues were hoping Legace would be back in net Thursday with almost a week to heal, but it appears as though he might need another few days. egace is 4-2 with a 2.94 goals-against average in six games this season. He sees most of the starts in net when healthy and remains a viable No. 2 Fantasy goalie. Continue to track his progress leading up to Week 5 (Nov. 3-9).
News:The Sports Xchange reports it appears the Blues got lucky with goaltender Manny Legace's freak injury Friday night. With Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in St. Louis to drop a ceremonial puck, Legace tripped on the carpet that was laid out for Palin and her family. Legace suffered a strained hip flexor, and although he didn't dress out for Saturday's game against Florida, he's expected to be ready for the Blues' next game on Thursday.
Analysis: Blues goalie prospect Ben Bishop started Saturday's game against Florida, and Marek Schwarz was the backup. "He's taking the day off, obviously," Blues president John Davidson said of Legace on Saturday. "He'll have treatment Sunday, and then we'll see how it is Monday. But it's day to day from what I understand."" Legace is 4-2 with a 2.94 goals-against average in six games this season. He is 313-291 in his nine-year career. He was selected to the Western Conference All-Star team last season. Legace was seeing most of the starts in net with Chris Mason already out following an appendectomy. Legace is a No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy and it appears as though he is a low-risk start for Fantasy Week 4 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2).
News: St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with an injury that might have occurred when he tripped over the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench for Palin, her husband and two of her daughters to walk to center ice. Just before the ceremony, Legace was the first player onto the ice for St. Louis. A team official pointed to the carpet, but as Legace stepped onto it with his skate, he fell, then gingerly made his way to the crease. Legace played one period, giving up two goals on 12 shots. Legace, who was replaced by Ben Bishop, described the injury as a strained left hip flexor. He doesn't believe it is serious but said it is painful. He said he won't play Saturday when the Blues host Florida, but wasn't sure if he'd miss any additional games. "I felt a pull right away," Legace said. "I was hoping it would just go away."
Analysis: Despite the freak accident, Legace holds no ill-will toward Palin. "She's been pretty good for our game," Legace said. "I'm starting to like her more and more. No grudge." Legace has had knee problems in the past and just be glad this injury is not related. Legace is 4-2 with a 2.94 goals-against average in six games this season. He is 313-291 in his nine-year career. He was selected to the Western Conference All-Star team last season. Legace was seeing most of the starts in net with Chris Mason already out following an appendectomy. Legace is a No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy, but is now an injury-risk start for Week 4 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2). It's probably best to reserve him anyway since the Blues play just twice during the upcoming scoring period.
News: The Red Wings got the best of former Detroit goalie Manny Legace during a 4-3 win Wednesday. The Red Wings built a 3-0 lead against Legace, who lost for the first time in five starts. Detroit scored two power-play goals as Legace, who played for Detroit from 1999-2006, made 30 saves.
Analysis: Legace has allowed three or more goals in three starts this season, but the Blues have had a very effective offense. Legace is seeing most of the starts in net as Chris Mason recovers from an appendectomy. He will still see most of the starts when Mason is healthy, so continue to treat Legace as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: St. Louis G Manny Legace stopped 23 shots and allowed three goals against the Blackhawks on Saturday but defeated Chicago in a shootout.
Analysis: Legace has won all four of his starts this season for the Blues. Legace has been pretty solid in the first few weeks of the season and is starting to put distance between him and backup goalie Chris Mason. Legace is in his free-agent year, so he will be motivated for a big season. Continue to view him as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is more of a low-end option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 29 shots during Thursday's 6-1 win against the Stars to improve to 3-0 on the season. "We were fresh, waiting for them," Blues coach Andy Murray said. "We played a team that played (Wednesday) night and had a battle (against Nashville). We took advantage." Legace never trailed in the game and allowed just a first-period goal to Krys Barch on a tip-in.
Analysis: Legace has been pretty solid in the first few weeks of the season and is starting to put distance between him and backup goalie Chris Mason. Legace is in his free-agent year, so he will be motivated for a big season. Continue to view him as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is more of a low-end option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace stopped 34 shots in regulation and overtime, and allowed just one goal in a shootout during a 5-4 win Monday. Legace stopped Nik Antropov, allowed a goal to Nikolai Kulemin and then stopped Pavel Kubina in the shootout to win it. He has two wins in his first two starts.
Analysis: Legace had to really battle back Monday after allowing three goals in the opening period. He made the necessary changes and stayed strong in net for his second win in as many starts. Chris Mason is nipping at his heels, but Legace should see most of the starts for St. Louis. He remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Blues G Manny Legace made 20 saves during Friday's 5-2 win against the Predators. Legace said players were inspired by a raucous sellout crowd during pre-game ceremonies. "The guys were just all fired up," Legace said. "If we can play to that intensity every single night, I like our chances." The Predators scored on the game's first shot, when Ryan Suter beat Legace on a 3-on-1 break, but the Blues built a three-goal cushion entering the third. Legace allowed just two even-strength goals.
Analysis: The Blues have already announced that Chris Mason will start Saturday against the Islanders, but Legace made a strong case Friday to retain his No. 1 job. We feel Legace will see most of the starts in net for St. Louis this season as long as he is healthy. But, he remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues G Manny Legace can finally see his right kneecap. Legace dealt with severe swelling in his right knee last season, but had offseason surgery to remove two bone spurs. He said his knee is at 98 percent at the beginning of training camp. "My doctor (Rick Lehman) couldn't believe that I could straighten out my leg last year," Legace said. Legace was also stunned about how well he played in 2007-08 despite knee problems. He earned his first All-Star appearance at 35 years old and finished 27-25-5 with a 2.41 GAA. He said it was better than his 2005-06 season with Detroit, when he was 37-8-3 with a 2.19 GAA. "Last year was the most consistent I've played -- no big ups or downs," Legace said. "There would be months in Detroit when I was just awful. We'd still win games because we'd score six goals, but guys were bailing me out. But last year, I was consistent for the whole year."
Analysis: Legace believes his second season in St. Louis helped him reach a new point mentally in his career. "I'm just comfortable in the league now," he said. "I'm not relaxed -- the game is too hard to relax -- but I'm more comfortable in my own skin." Legace might not want to get too comfortable as the Blues brought in Chris Mason during the offseason. Blues President John Davidson said in June that Mason would compete with Legace for the No. 1 job. It's worth noting that Legace is in the final year of his contract while Mason, a former starter in Nashville, has two more seasons left on his deal. "I'm going to go out and make them have a decision to make," Legace said. "I'll just try to have a year like last year and make them make a decision." We believe Legace will eventually win the starting job in St. Louis, so consider him a No. 2 Fantasy goalie until further notice.
News: Blues G Manny Legace claimed the 27th shutout of his career Saturday as St. Louis blanked the Blue Jackets 3-0. Legace made 25 saves.
Analysis: Legace was a top goalie to open the season, but as soon as the calendar hit 2008, his season turned. He has just 13 wins in his last 39 outings. News: St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace surprised the franchise's front office Tuesday, saying he'll probably need additional surgery on his right knee after the season. Coach Andy Murray said Legace's remarks after the morning skate prior to the Blues' 5-4 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers were the first he's heard on the topic. Legace is on injured reserve after hurting the knee again and has missed four games, but anticipates being activated on Wednesday. Murray said team doctors have discussed another operation as an option, but not as a certainty. "To be honest with you guys, I have to say I heard that for the first time tonight," Murray said. "I have no idea what Manny was talking about. It's possible he could require some minor surgery, but I don't know where Manny was coming from."

He's 11-6-1 with a 2.22 goals-against average. Legace is wearing a knee brace to reduce wear and tear and believes he can make it through the season. "You bang it, you ice it, it goes down the next day and you're perfectly fine," Legace said. "It's just getting the swelling out. This is the worst it's going to be."
