Blues' Ott Pots Goal In Win

News: Steve Ott potted a goal in Tuesday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The fourth-line winger usually offers most of his contributions in the form of hits and PIM, but he does have a few 30-point seasons on his resume. Unfortunately, none of those have come since 2011-12, as his minutes have declined steadily while he's transitioned into more of a grinder role. He only has three goals and 11 points over 64 games to date this season.

Blues' Ott Chips In Assist, Four Hits

News: Steve Ott contributed an assist and four hits in Friday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Steve Ott helped set up linemate Ryan Reaves for the game's first goal, giving him his second point in as many nights. The 32-year-old can't be counted on to provide consistent scoring totals, but he does carry relevance in deeper leagues for his strong hit and PIM numbers.

Blues' Ott Set To Play On Thursday

News: Steve Ott (illness) is slated to play Thursday against Detroit, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Analysis: Steve Ott, who has been battling the flu, did not participate in Thursday's morning skate. However, coach Ken Hitchcock said the forward was still scheduled to suit up later in the evening, so it's likely that he just took the morning off to rest up.

Blues' Ott Likely Out Due To Illness

News: Steve Ott (illness) is likely to miss Thursday's against Detroit, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Analysis: Steve Ott didn't skate during practice Thursday morning and is day-to-day.

Blues' Ott Dealing With Flu

News: Steve Ott missed Wednesday's practice with the flu, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: The Blues will reevaluate Steve Ott on Thursday morning before determine whether or not he's fit to play later that evening against the Red Wings. If Ott isn't feeling healthy enough to suit up, Joakim Lindstrom would likely reenter the lineup in his stead.d

Blues' Ott Nets First Of Season

News: Steve Ott scored his first goal of the season Saturday in a loss to San Jose on his only shot of the game. He added seven hits in 13:46 of ice time in the game.
Analysis: Steve Ott is a veteran role player and penalty killer at this stage in his career, so offensive contributions aren't what the Blues are expecting from him. Fantasy owners should look at him the same way.

Blues' Ott Will Return To Lineup On Wednesday

News: Steve Ott (groin) will return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Blackhawks, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Steve Ott was originally supposed to miss a few more games and not travel with the Blues on their current road trip, but after practicing with the team on Monday, he made enough progress to be put back in the lineup against Chicago. The 32-year-old center has struggled to find offensive production this year, scoring no goals and four assists in 23 games played.

Blues' Ott Practices

News: Steve Ott (groin) practiced with the team Monday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Steve Ott was originally not supposed to travel with the team on their current four game road trip, but considering he's already practicing, it sounds like he could make a return sooner. There's no word yet from the team, but keep an eye out for a status update.

Blues' Ott Will Not Travel On Upcoming Road Trip

News: Steve Ott suffered a groin injury during Friday's game and will not travel on the Blues' upcoming road trip, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Blues play four games on the road over the next week, and with Steve Ott staying in St. Louis, it appears he will be out at least that long.

Blues' Ott Registers First Point Saturday

News: Steve Ott picked up an assist Saturday against Chicago, his first point of the season. He had two hits and two PIM in the contest.
Analysis: Steve Ott has been bouncing around the top three lines for the Blues, but he is a checker at this stage of his career. He has three shots in seven games so far.

Blues' Ott To Receive Top Line Look

News: Steve Ott appears set to assume the top-line spot made available by Paul Stastny's upper-body injury, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It was believed that Alexander Steen would reunite with former linemates David Backes and T.J. Oshie in the wake of Stastny's injury, but coach Ken Hitchcock has surprisingly decided to give Steve Ott the first look. Ott offers a similar hard-nosed ruggedness to Backes on the defensive end, but doesn't provide the same sort of offensive impact that Steen would. Still, a potential multi-game stay with Oshie and Backes will afford him more scoring opportunities than he would receive in his typical bottom-six role.

Blues Re-Sign Ott For Two Years

News: Steve Ott (abdomen) re-signed with the Blues on a two-year, $5.2 million extension on Thursday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Steve Ott was a disappointment for the Blues after coming over in a deadline deal last season with the Sabres, totaling only three points in 23 games. However, the Blues apparently view him as a key cog on the second or third line, after Vladimir Sobotka decided to take his career to the KHL. Ott underwent surgery to repair his abdominal area after the season ended, but should be fully healthy by the time training camp commences.

Blues' Ott Undergoes Abdominal Surgery

News: Steve Ott underwent surgery to repair his abdominal area in Philadelphia earlier this week, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The procedure likely won't jeopardize Steve Ott's chances of being healthy before training camp. The 31-year-old totaled only three points in 23 regular-season contests after the Blues acquired him from Buffalo at the trade deadline. He'll be a restricted free agent in the offseason, but it remains to be seen if the Blues have any interest in retaining him.

Blues' Ott Receives Top Line Assignment

News: Steve Ott spent Game 1 against the Blackhawks on the Blues' top line with captain David Backes and Alex Steen, the team's leading scorer. He was productive in his new role, setting up Steen's game-winner in triple OT and firing three shots on goal.
Analysis: Steve Ott, normally a bottom-six guy since arriving in St. Louis 24 games ago near the trade deadline, got the nod to fill in for the injured T.J. Oshie (upper body). The abrasive veteran actually saw the fourth most ice time (30:53) among Blues forwards in the triple OT marathon, and could get another shot with the big boys as Oshie is questionable to play in Game 2 on Saturday. His assist was just his fourth point as a member of the Blues.

Blues Tab Ott For Second Line Duty In Debut

News: Steve Ott will slot in on the second line with Derek Roy and T.J. Oshie when he makes his Blues debut Sunday against the Coyotes, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: The Blues boast one of the deepest stables of forwards in the game, so even if he fails to come close to the 19:42 of ice time he was averaging with the Sabres, Steve Ott's fantasy value will almost certainly be bolstered by the move to St. Louis. Expect his minus-26 rating to improve dramatically the rest of the way.

Sabres Trade Ott, Ryan Miller To St. Louis

News: Steve Ott was traded with Ryan Miller to the Blues in exchange for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier, and draft picks on Friday.
Analysis: Steve Ott, the captain of the Sabres, was a late scratch for Friday's game and that was due to a trade about to be announced. He has played in 59 games this season for Buffalo, totaling 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. He will head to a contender in St. Louis and give then some added veteran depth and leadership, likely on the second or third line.

Sabres Expecting To Trade Ott

News: Despite being team captain, Steve Ott's departure from Buffalo is inevitable, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: This comes at no surprise as the Sabres continue their re-build under general manager Tim Murray, who will be unloading veterans at the trade deadline for picks and prospects. Steve Ott has just nine goals and is minus-26 on the season, but he adds veteran leadership and plenty of grit in the bottom-six. Once Ott gets traded, most likely to a playoff team, his stock will increase. Already a good source of PIM, the former 20-goal scorer has more offense in the tank, but just hasn't been able to be realized playing on the league's worst team.

Sabres' Ott Pots Goal Monday

News: Steve Ott potted his ninth goal of the season in Monday's loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: It was the second goal in three games for the forward. Steve Ott also picked up three hits and four penalty minutes in his 22:01 of ice time.

Two Power-Play Points For Sabres' Ott

News: Steve Ott notched a goal and an assist -- both on the power play -- in Tuesday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: A very fine effort indeed for the veteran pivot, who hadn't picked up a power-play point since Jan. 4 and had a season total of just three goals and an assist with the man-advantage entering Tuesday's action.

Sabres' Ott Productive, Physical In Loss

News: Steve Ott handed out two assists and dished out seven hits in Tuesday's loss to the Flyers. He also went plus-1.
Analysis: Despite winning just six out of 17 faceoffs, Steve Ott had a very strong game. Over the last four games, he's picked up four helpers and laid 17 hits while going plus-2.

Sabres' Ott Will Play Thursday

Sabres' Ott Resting Saturday?

News: Steve Ott was not on the ice for practice Saturday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: No ailment has been reported, so it's possible that Steve Ott is simply receiving a maintenance day.

Ott Propels Buffalo

News: Steve Ott snagged a goal and an assist in Friday's win over Toronto, giving him his first goal since October 28.
Analysis: Steve Ott has not scored as much as owners would like, but he's hardly been the only Buffalo player disappointing this season. Ott does much on the ice that does not appear in the box score, but he does offer owners in leagues which count penalty minutes a boost, but a boost in scoring would be nice.

Ott Sparks First Home Win For Sabres

News: Steve Ott was moved to the top line alongside Cody Hodgson and Matt Moulson and responded beautifully, registering an assist and 10 hits in a 3-2 win over the Kings on Tuesday.
Analysis: Steve Ott didn't register a shot on net, but he doesn't need to with Hodgson and Moulson running a two-man offensive game on most possessions. Instead, the Sabres' captain made sure his two linemates had room to operate, registering 10 hits on a season-high 28 shifts. Hodgson continues to struggle in the dot, so having Ott (who won 10 of 18 face-offs) on the ice is a nice insurance policy. With a 3-2 win over the Kings, head coach Ron Rolston will most likely keep his top line intact. If Ott manages to stick for the season, he'll be in good position to pick up some assists and get lots of playing time. Fantasy-wise, Ott's performance is a reminder of why he can be a valuable commodity in leagues that count peripheral stats like PIM, hits, blocked shots and face-offs.

Sabres' Ott Potential Trade Target

News: The Sabres began the season with two captains, and now that one of them is already gone, there's a good chance Steve Ott will follow, reports the CBC.
Analysis: As the Sabres continue to struggle, their number one goal will be to stockpile assets and the easiest way to do that is to hold a fire sale for all of their impending unrestricted free agents. Despite being the team captain, the 31-year-old agitator doesn't look like he'll be part of the team's plans moving forward. Steve Ott is a player that any team can use, bringing a good mix of trash-talking, grit and skill to the lineup. Players often perform well in their contract years, and there's good incentive for Ott to do so. If he plays well, he'll attract the attention of playoff-bound teams and possibly land a lucrative contract in the summer. Henrik Tallinder, Ryan Miller and Cody McCormick are all in the same boat.
