Boston Trades For Ouellet

News: Boston received Michel Ouellet and a fifth-round pick in exchange for Benoit Pouliot on Saturday, BostonBruins.com reports.
Analysis: Michel Ouellet has been fairly productive in the AHL in recent years, but the fact that he has mostly been out of the NHL since 2007 means he probably won't do anything especially noteworthy with Boston.

Bolts' Ouellet Clears Waivers

News: Michel Ouellet cleared waivers Wednesday and will report to Norfolk of the AHL.
Analysis: He may get a call-up at some point in the season but we'll need to see immediate production even then to consider him as a waiver recommendation.

Bolts' Waive Ouellet

News: Michel Ouellet was waived Sunday for the purpose of sending him to the minors, reports Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times.
Analysis: He was looking for a second chance at the NHL but he'll have to earn that riding the buses in the AHL.

Bolts' Ouellet Eager To Get NHL Career Back On Track

News: Michel Ouellet is eager to re-establish his NHL reputation after spending the last two seasons in Europe, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
Analysis: "It's a second chance for me," he said. He last played in Tampa in 2007-08 but was limited to 64 games because of a dislocated shoulder. He'll need to work fast at camp because there's only one spot open and about seven or eight other guys vying for the same jersey. Camp opens Friday.

Bolts Lure Ouellet Back To NHL

News: Ouellet is returning to North America on a one-year deal with the Lightning, reports the Tampa Tribune. It's a two-way deal.
Analysis: He spent the last two seasons playing in Switzerland and Germany so the return to smaller ice could prove to be a challenge. The competitive level overseas -- particularly in those two countries -- isn't near that of the NHL. Expect him to start in the AHL and get occasional call-ups. Ouellet last played for Vancouver but was a Bolt prior to that. He has 52 goals and 116 points in 190 NHL games.

Ouellet has 11 January points in AHL

News: Canucks minor league forward Michel Ouellet is making the most of his time with Manitoba of the AHL. He has totaled five goals, six assists and a plus-7 rating in 11 January games. His season total stands at 13 goals, 26 assists and a plus-13 rating in 41 appearances.
Analysis: Ouellet spent some time earlier this season with the Canucks, but when he failed to produce he was sent to the minors. Ouellet has had some success in the past in the NHL, but just can't seem to crack a roster at this point. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Ouellet sent down to AHL

News: The Canucks sent down LW Michel Ouellet to the AHL on Wednesday.
Analysis: Ouellet has shown some decent offensive flair over his career in the NHL, but he has never been able to sustain for long periods and that is why he appears to be organizational depth at this time. Ouellet is not worth owing while he's in the minors.

Ouellet removed from top line

News: The Sports Xchange reports RW Michel Ouellet's shot to play on the Canucks' top line with C Henrik Sedin and LW Daniel Sedin didn't last long. After two periods, he spent most of the third period on the bench Thursday against Phoenix and was on the checking line with C Ryan Kesler and LW Alex Burrows on Saturday against Minnesota. His next stop may be back in the AHL because RW Jannik Hansen is skating and, after missing four games with a groin injury, could be back on that line Wednesday against Colorado.
Analysis: Ouellet has shown some decent offensive flair over his career in the NHL, but he has never been able to sustain for long periods and that is why he appears to be organizational depth at this time. Ouellet remains a poor Fantasy option since he could be back in the AHL shortly.

Ouellet jumps from AHL to top line

News: The Province reports that Canucks LW Michel Ouellet, who was only called up from the AHL on Tuesday, will play on the top line in Vancouver with the Sedin twins on Thursday night against Phoenix. He replaces Mason Raymond.
Analysis: First it was Steve Bernier. Then it was Raymond. Now Ouellet, who was acquired via a trade with the Lightning back in early October will get thrown onto the top line in Vancouver. Maybe they'll get third time lucky, who knows. Ouellet has 116 points in three NHL seasons, so he has proved he be a semi-decent offensive contributor in the league, but he's hardly top-line talent. The experiment might work though, who knows? For now, Ouellet remains only a low-end Fantasy forward, but he might be worth keeping an eye on over the next few games. Raymond's value takes a hit with this news, so only rely on him in the deepest of leagues as a reserve forward.

Ouellet clears re-entry waivers

News: TSN reports that Canucks LW Michel Ouellet has cleared re-entry waivers.
Analysis: Ouellet could have found his way on to another team vie the re-entry waiver process, but no one bit. Consider him only in the deepest of leagues as a flier option if he somehow earns ice time in Vancouver.

Ouellet left in minors

News: The Sports Xchange reports Canucks GM Mike Gillis left forward Michel Ouellet in the AHL after acquiring him in a four-player trade with Tampa Bay on Monday that also brought tough defenseman Shane O'Brien in exchange for skilled-but-soft defender Lukas Krajicek and prospect forward Juraj Simek.
Analysis: Ouellet, who is making $1.3-million this season, already cleared waivers and was in the AHL after being sent down by the Lightning the previous weekend. Just as some of the Canucks youngsters earned a spot with their preseason play, Ouellet will have to earn his way back to the NHL through good play. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Lighting trade O'Brien, Ouellet for Krajicek

News: The St. Pete Times reports the Lightning have sent D Shane O'Brien and RW Michel Ouellet to Vancouver for D Lukas Krajicek and minor-league LW Juraj Simek.
Analysis: Krajicek played in 39 games with the Canucks last season, recording two goals and 11 points with one power-play goal. He missed the majority of the season due to a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old has played in 207 career NHL games with Vancouver and the Florida Panthers. He has eight career goals and 50 points with five power play goals and two game-winning goals. His Fantasy value remains minimal. O'Brien recorded four goals with 17 assists last season with Tampa Bay in 77 games. Ouellet, 26, was signed by the Lightning before last season and had 17 goals and 19 assists in 64 games. O'Brien is one of the better two-way defenseman in the NHL, but is still just a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy defenseman. Ouellet remains nothing more than a low-end reserve Fantasy forward. Simek, a sixth-round pick by Vancouver in 2006, had seven goals and 17 assists with minor-league Manitoba last season. He should continue to be ignored in all formats.

Ouellet could be trade bait

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Michel Ouellet has been mentioned as a possible target to be moved before the start of the regular season, but might still find a way to earn a roster spot after a strong finish to last season. Ouellet had 12 points (seven goals) in the final 18 games of 2007-08.
Analysis: The Lightning let Ouellet go crazy at the end of last season when they were eliminated from playoff contention and he performed extremely well. The former Pittsburgh farmhand might have tapped out offensively as a 30-50-point player, and should only be considered a low-end Fantasy forward.

Ouellet tallies three points in win

News: Lightning LW Michel Ouellet tallied a goal and two assists Tuesday in an 8-4 win over the Islanders. With the points he reached the 30-point mark for a third straight season.
Analysis: Ouellet had 10 points in November before his season was basically derailed by a dislocated shoulder. At 25, he still has time for some maturing, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a third-line forward and a low-end Fantasy option in deeper leagues.

Ouellet has point in seven of eight

News: Lightning LW Michel Ouellet tallied an assist and finished at even during Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets. He now has at least one point in seven of his last eight games. He has five goals and three assists in that span.
Analysis: Ouellet was off to such a great start in his first season with Tampa before the injury hit in mid-December. He has been slow to recover since returning to the lineup, but has been playing well since the trade deadline. It might signal he is back to 100 percent. At this stage, he still remains a low-end Fantasy forward.

Ouellet has first point after injury

News: Lightning LW Michel Ouellet scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Canadiens. It was his first point in seven games since missing 18 contests with a dislocated left shoulder.
Analysis: Ouellet was off to such a great start in his first season with Tampa before the injury hit. He has been slow to recover since returning to the lineup, but Tuesday's goal might get him on the right path. For now, he remains a low-end Fantasy option.

Ouellet makes return for Lightning

News: RW Michel Ouellet returned to action Tuesday after missing 18 games with a dislocated left shoulder. Ouellet played 17 minutes and took two shots on goal in the 4-2 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Ouellet has shelled out 18 points in his first season with Tampa Bay and continues to do an admirable job manning the lower lines. Still, he remains just a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.

Ouellet could be back soon

News: Lightning LW Michel Ouellet is awaiting clearance to practice, according to the St. Pete Times. He could be back by the end of the month.
Analysis: Ouellet has shelled out 18 points in his first season with Tampa Bay and continues to do an admirable job manning the lower lines. Still, he remains just a low-end Fantasy option when healthy. Keep him out of active Fantasy lineups for Week 17 (Jan. 21-27), as it doesn't appear he will return during the period.

Ouellet not cleared to practice

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning RW Michel Ouellet, out since Dec. 15 with a dislocated shoulder, is close to returning to the ice but has not been cleared to begin to practice. He no longer wears a sling on the shoulder and has begun exercising with strength coach Eric Lawson.
Analysis: Ouellet has shelled out 18 points in his first season with Tampa Bay and continues to do an admirable job manning the lower lines. Still, he remains just a low-end Fantasy option when healthy. Keep him out of active Fantasy lineups for Week 16 (Jan. 14-20).

Ouellet slated to miss 4-6 weeks

News: Center Chris Gratton and right wing Michel Ouellet have joined the Tampa Bay Lightning's growing list of injured players. The team said Saturday that Gratton will be sidelined two weeks because of a hip injury. Ouellet dislocated his left shoulder Thursday night in a 9-6 loss to Calgary and is expected to miss four to six weeks. Blair Jones, recalled from Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Friday, and Craig MacDonald will likely fill in for Gratton and Ouellet.
Analysis: Ouellet has shelled out 18 points in his first season with Tampa Bay and continues to do an admirable job manning the lower lines. Still, he remains just a low-end Fantasy option when healthy. Keep him out of active Fantasy lineups for the considerable future.

News: Tampa Bay RW Michel Ouellet left in the second period Thursday against the Flames with a left shoulder injury. He managed an assist and plus-2 rating in 6:33 of ice time. He has one goal and two assists in his last four games.
Analysis: Ouellet has shelled out 18 points in his first season with Tampa Bay and continues to do an admirable job manning the lower lines. Still, he remains just a low-end Fantasy option when healthy.

Analysis: Ouellet has 17 points in 30 games in his first year with Tampa after opening his career with the Penguins. He is doing an admirable job playing on the lower lines for Tampa, but remains just a low-end Fantasy option at this time.

News: Michel Ouellet scored with 16.7 seconds left in the third against the Rangers Wednesday.
Analysis: Ouellet, a third-year forward, is in his first year with the Lightning after coming over from Pittsburgh. He posted a career-high 48 points last season, but is off to a slow start here in 2007. He remains just a low-end Fantasy option at this time.
