Petersen's Status For AHL Stars Uncertain

News: Toby Petersen's status is still unclear for the AHL Stars. He was injured blocking a shot in Game 4 of the Western Conference Championship against the Toronto Marlies.
Analysis: Toby Petersen was a part of a dynamic fourth line - centered by 2012 first-round draft pick Radek Faksa - that took the Marlies by surprise. The team has not officially disclosed the nature of Petersen's injury or a timetable for return.

Stars Send Petersen To AHL

News: The Stars announced they have sent Toby Petersen to AHL Texas, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Toby Petersen saw 6:40 worth of ice time in his only appearance with the big club during his recall, on March 31. He'll return to Texas, where he has recorded 23 points in 65 AHL contests.

Stars' Petersen Recalled

News: Toby Petersen was recalled by the Stars on Saturday, Mark Stepneski of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Peterson has 33 goals and 81 points in 397 career NHL games. The 34-year-old journeyman hasn't exactly been tearing it up in the AHL this year, scoring only seven goals and 23 points through 65 games. He won't be in an option in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Petersen Back With Dallas

News: Toby Petersen signed a two-year, two-way contract with Dallas on Monday, the Stars' Official Site reports.
Analysis: Toby Petersen notched five points in 39 games with Dallas, averaging roughly 7:39 per contest. Odds are he will begin the season a bit further south with the Texas Stars, rather than with the big club.

Stars' Petersen Plays After Being Healthy Scratch For Past 15

News: Toby Petersen played Saturday against San Jose after being a healthy scratch for the past 15 games, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Toby Petersen played on the Stars' fourth line and logged just 4:46 minutes of ice time. The 33-year-old has posted five points (2G, 3A) in his 39 games this year, and at this point, it's hard to imagine Petersen will ever become fantasy relevant.

Stars' Petersen Returns To Lineup

News: Petersen (leg) rejoined the Dallas lineup Tuesday.
Analysis: Peterson didn't see any power play time despite numerous injuries to the Dallas forward group, and figures to skate on a depth line going forward. Dallas' team-wide scoring woes at the moment makes it tough to recommend a player that's not on the top two lines.

Stars Send Petersen On Conditioning Stint

News: The Stars assigned Petersen (leg) to AHL Texas on Monday for a conditioning assignment, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Petersen is getting close to a return, but he hasn't played since suffering the injury in early January, so he needs a little time to get back into game shape.

Petersen Nearing Return For dallas

News: Petersen (leg) could return Tuesday against Edmonton or Wednesday against Calgary, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: He's technically considered doubtful for Sunday's game against Columbus. His return likely won't affect the fantasy realm a whole lot, in any case, as he typically only hovers around the double-digit point range over the course of an entire season.

Dallas' Petersen Remains Hobbled

News: Petersen (leg) remains sidelined and won't play Tuesday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Petersen's nothing more than a fourth liner and penalty kill option for Dallas when healthy.

Stars Place Petersen on IR

News: The Stars have placed Petersen on IR with a bruised leg, according to ESPNDallas.com.
Analysis: The move was made retroactive to Saturday, so perhaps it's not too serious, plus it looks like it's not a structural issue. Philip Larsen was called up from Texas of the AHL to take Petersen's spot on the roster.

Stars ink Petersen to extension

News: ESPN reports the Stars have signed C Toby Petersen to a two-year contract extension worth $1.55 million. "Toby Petersen's character and work ethic are the type of attributes we want in our players," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said in a release. "He is a very versatile forward that can play throughout your lineup. He is a good example of the type of professional we want."
Analysis: Petersen, 31, has played in 75 games this season with nine goals and five assists. He has played in 295 career NHL games over six seasons. He continues to have minimal Fantasy value.

T. Petersen has 1st goal in 11 games

News: Stars C Toby Petersen scored for the first time in 11 games when he lit the lamp in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Petersen plays less than 12 minutes a game for the Stars and has little Fantasy value if any.

Petersen has 1st shorty since '06-07

News: The Sports Xchange reports Stars C Toby Petersen's shorthanded goal on Thursday against Vancouver was his first since he tallied two with the Oilers in the 2006-07 season. Petersen has five goals this season, with two coming in his last four games.
Analysis: Petersen has also scored three times in his last seven games and has gotten a few more scoring chances since Mike Riberio bowed out with a throat injury. While Petersen is cashing in, he still isn't an elite offensive player. Petersen still has marginal Fantasy appeal.

Petersen has first point since Nov.

News: Stars C Toby Petersen scored a goal and finished at plus-1 on Friday against the Islanders. Petersen got the game's first goal at 4:44 of the first period when his deflection glanced off the stick of Islanders defenseman Brendan Witt and through Rick DiPietro's pads. It was his fourth goal and first point since Nov. 25.
Analysis: Petersen went the whole month of December without a point and has only five points in 400 games. That should speak volumes about his Fantasy potential. Petersen continues to chew up lower-line minutes for the Stars, but he isn't on the verge of becoming a breakout Fantasy player. He has little to no Fantasy appeal despite the score.

Petersen caps scoring with tip-in

News: Stars C Toby Petersen scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Wednesday's game against the Predators. Petersen completed the scoring with 2:13 left as he beat Pekka Rinne on a tip-in. It was his first goal of the season.
Analysis: Petersen continues to chew up lower-line minutes for the Stars, but he isn't on the verge of becoming a breakout Fantasy player. He has little to no Fantasy appeal despite the score.

Petersen past ankle injury

News: Stars C Toby Petersen (ankle) was able to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Avalanche. He had no points and two penalty minutes in 15:11 of ice time.
Analysis: Petersen's 2008-09 campaign came to an abrupt end when he broke his ankle late in the season. He had 11 points in 57 games. Petersen has pretty much been just a lower-line forward in his career and we don't expect that to change. He has little to no Fantasy appeal.

Petersen out at least a month

News: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Stars RW Toby Petersen broke a bone in his ankle after he was struck with a puck Monday against the Sharks and will miss at least one month.
Analysis: Petersen doesn't have a point in nine games and hasn't scored since Dec. 20. He sees regular minutes for Dallas when healthy, but mostly as a lower-line presence. Petersen has little to no Fantasy value.

Petersen stays hot with goal

News: Stars RW Toby Petersen scored the team's lone goal during a 2-1 shootout win Friday against the Avalanche. Petersen's deflection of Mike Modano's centering pass provided Dallas with the game's first goal at 7:57 of the second period. Petersen notched his first goal for the Stars and first in two seasons in a 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 30, and has remained hot with three goals and an assist in the four-game span.
Analysis: Petersen has never been much of a goal scorer in his first few NHL stints and wasn't scoring a lot this season until recently. He will likely cool off at some point, so Fantasy owners shouldn't get overly excited. He still has little to no value.
