News: Mair signed an undisclosed contract with New Jersey Tuesday, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Mair was invited to Devils training camp this season and earned the respect of coaches and teammates alike. He'll be used in a variety of roles, mostly for checking. He's a solid grinder and a glue guy, but won't make much of an offensive impact.

Mair Expected To Sign With Devils

News: With the release of Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, the Devils are expected to officially sign Adam Mair, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Mair is a fourth-line grinder that can help the Devils in a variety of roles, but he won't be scoring too much. He has strong leadership skills and impressed the coaching staff during training camp.

Mair Battling for Roster Spot With Devils

News: Mair has been impressing coaches and teammates during training camp with the Devils, according to the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Mair is a gritty veteran and can be a valuable role player for New Jersey in a defensive forward role provided he gets a shot at the NHL level.

Mair scores second goal of season

News: Sabres C Adam Mair scored his second goal of the season in Wednesday's shootout win over the Devils.
Analysis: Mair has reached the 20-point only once in his career, and his penalty-minute count has really taken a dive this season. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.

Mair finally gets first goal

News: Sabres C Adam Mair scored a goal and finished at plus-1 on Monday against the Canucks. Making their first visit in four years and looking for their first win in Vancouver since 1999, the Sabres took the lead on Mair's first goal of the season 3:13 into the second period.
Analysis: No one is ever going to mistake Mair for an offensive threat. In fact, he was placed on waivers earlier this season. He has played regularly since mid-December, but clearly Mair hasn't done a lot. He has little to no Fantasy appeal.

Mair has rare offensive outburst

News: Sabres C Adam Mair tallied a pair of assists and finished at plus-2 on Friday against the Thrashers. It was his first points since recording an assist on Nov. 14.
Analysis: No one is ever going to mistake Mair for an offensive threat. In fact, he was placed on waivers earlier this season. He has played regularly over the last month, but clearly Mair hasn't done a lot. He has little to no Fantasy appeal.

Sabres choose to keep Mair

News: Veteran Sabres forward Adam Mair has cleared waivers and will be staying in Buffalo. Coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday he's electing to keep Mair in Buffalo as an extra forward rather than send him to Portland, Maine, the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate. NHL teams had until noon Tuesday to claim Mair.
Analysis: A nine-year NHL veteran, Mair has proven to be the odd-man out on a team stocked with forwards. Mair missed the start of the season after having hip surgery. He's appeared in only three games and registered no points this season so clearly he has no Fantasy value.

Mair placed on waivers Monday

News: Veteran Buffalo Sabres forward Adam Mair has been placed on waivers, with the other 29 NHL teams given until noon Tuesday to put a claim on him. Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier said the team has a glut of forwards with the addition of Tim Kennedy and Mike Grier, and he tried trading the 30-year-old Mair but couldn't find any takers.
Analysis: If Mair isn't claimed, the Sabres could either keep him or send him and his $775,000 salary to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Mair has played just three games this season, missing the first four after undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery. Mair played 72 or more games each of the past three seasons. He has played in more than 10 NHL seasons, including seven with the Sabres. Mair is pretty much just a checking-line forward and has value in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when active.

Mair returns to action vs. Thrashers

News: Buffalo C Adam Mair was able to return to action on Saturday against the Thrashers from a hip injury. He did not record a stat in the game.
Analysis: Mair is a 10-year NHL veteran who has spent the past six seasons with Buffalo. He scored a career-best eight goals and added 11 assists for 19 points in 75 games last season. However, his only real value is in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair, Lydman practice with Sabres

News: The Buffalo News reports that C Adam Mair (hip) and D Toni Lydman (hand) practiced with the Sabres on Monday. Both missed the season opener.
Analysis: Mair reportedly hasn't passed his preseason physical yet, so Lydman is likely to be back before him. Both have minimal Fantasy value anyway, so don't worry too much about when they will return to action.

Mair still not close to return

News: The Sports Xchange reports that Sabres C Adam Mair (hip) has yet to take his preseason physical after undergoing offseason surgery. He was scheduled to return the second week of the season.
Analysis: Mair is a 10-year NHL veteran who has spent the past six seasons with Buffalo. He scored a career-best eight goals and added 11 assists for 19 points in 75 games last season. Mair is pretty much a lower-line forward and best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair (hip) out for six weeks

News: Veteran Buffalo Sabres forward Adam Mair will miss the start of the regular season after having hip surgery. General manager Darcy Regier says Mair will miss at least six weeks. That means the gritty fourth-line player will be out until after the Sabres open the regular season on Oct. 3 against Montreal. Regier did not provide any details Tuesday as to why the operation was necessary.
Analysis: The announcement came a week before the Sabres are scheduled to open training camp. Mair is a 10-year NHL veteran, who has spent the past six seasons with Buffalo. He scored a career-best eight goals and added 11 assists for 19 points in 75 games last season. Mair is pretty much a lower-line forward and best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair returns, scores a goal

News: Buffalo RW Adam Mair was able to return to the Sabres lineup on Saturday against the Canadiens and made it a grand return with a goal off of Carey Price. It was his 8th goal of the season, increasing his points total on the season to 16.
Analysis: Mair had been out since March 14 with the knee injury, missing two weeks because of it. He still has little value even though he's back and scored a goal, so don't bother with him outside of leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair out a week with knee injury

News: Coach Lindy Ruff said the Sabres will be without gritty fourth-line forward Adam Mair, who will miss at least a week after hurting his knee in a 4-3 shootout loss to Atlanta on Saturday.
Analysis: The 30-year-old Mair has managed a career-high seven goals in 2008-09. He also has 10 or more points for the fifth time in six seasons. However, he still hasn't broken 20 points and is not an elite offensive player. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair has career-high seventh goal

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair scored a goal during Friday's 6-5 shootout win against the Sharks. Mair had his career-high seventh goal of the season when he beat Evgeni Nabokov with a tip-in to begin the scoring at 6:40. Mair has two goals and one assist in four games.
Analysis: Mair has been a decent two-way player in 2008-09 for the Sabres, but he still dresses on most nights to act as a checking-line presence. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair ends goal-less drought

News: The Sports Xchange reports Sabres RW Adam Mair was scoreless in his last 14 games before netting his sixth goal in the third period Saturday against the Senators.
Analysis: Mair has been a decent two-way player in 2008-09 for the Sabres, but he still dresses on most nights to act as a checking-line presence. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair suits up Monday vs. Ducks

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair returned to the lineup Monday against the Ducks after missing two games with a leg injury. He didn't record a point in 9:33 of ice time and finished at even.
Analysis: Mair has been a decent two-way player in 2008-09 for the Sabres, but he still dresses on most nights to act as a checking-line presence. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Mair sits with leg injury

News: Buffalo C Adam Mair was scratched Saturday for the second straight game with a leg injury.
Analysis: Mair has 80 PIM on the season and actually is having a pretty decent offensive campaign with 12 points. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair hasn't fought in January

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair failed to record a point and finished at even in 11:05 of ice time Wednesday against the Lightning. Mair doesn't have a point in four games and has just one assist in 10 January outings.
Analysis: Mair has 80 penalty minutes on the season, but has been flagged for just four infractions in January and hasn't fought anyone. Mair is having a good offensive season by his standards, but is still more of a checking-line forward. Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair spoils shutout bid Tuesday

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair prevented his team from getting blanked Tuesday against the Capitals with his fifth goal of the season. With Buffalo down 3-0 after two periods, Mair spoiled Jose Theodore's shutout bid at 7:41 of the third, lifting the puck over the goalie with a nifty backhand after a slick deke. It was his second goal in six games.
Analysis: Mair has four of his 11 points in the last six games, but it's not like we are expecting this offensive splurge to continue. He is primarily on the ice to act as a checking-line forward and Mair is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair reaches 10 points

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair assisted twice in Monday's loss to the Penguins to reach 10 points on the season.
Analysis: Mair is primarily on the ice to protect Buffalo's top scorers. He remains just a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair has three points in 16 games

News: Sabres RW Adam Mair failed to record a point and finished at minus-1 in 14:26 of ice time Wednesday against the Devils. He has no goals and just three assists in his last 16 games.
Analysis: Mair is having a decent offensive season by his standards, but the enforcer is primarily on the ice to protect Buffalo's top scorers. He remains just a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Mair tallies third goal Wednesday

News: Tim Connolly, Adam Mair and Henrik Tallinder each had a goal and an assist in Buffalo's 4-3 victory over St. Louis on Wednesday night. Mair opened the scoring with a slap shot past Manny Legace 2:46 into the game. It was his third goal of the season and first point in eight games. Mair also spent two minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: Mair has never had more than six goals in a season. He has spent the last six seasons in Buffalo creating havoc as a checking-line forward and Mair is pretty much just a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.
