News: Alexei Ponikarovsky agreed to a two-year deal with St. Petersburg SKA of the KHL on Tuesday, the N.J News reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky recorded only nine points in 42 games with the Jets and Devils, respectively, last season, and will join his former Devils teammate Ilya Kovalchuk with St. Petersburg SKA.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Returning Friday

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (lower body) will return to the lineup Friday against Tampa Bay, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky has missed the last week of games with a lower-body injury but will be back to give the Devils' forward corps a boost.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Out Monday

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (lower body) skated on Sunday but will not play Monday against Ottawa, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. He was retroactively placed on injured reserve to March 19.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky has missed the last two games and will make it three when the Devils travel to the nation's capital Monday. He suffered the lower-body injury in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers. Odds are Ponikarovsky will return for one of the Devils' two contests in Florida this coming weekend. He is eligible to come off IR on Wednesday.

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (lower-body injury) won't play Saturday against the Panthers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky noted Friday that while he is not ready to play yet, he is "probably getting there." He's a self-proclaimed day-to-day, as a result.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Misses Practice

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (undisclosed injury) did not practice Wednesday, the Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: As a result, consider Alexei Ponikarovsky, who was forced out of Tuesday's loss to the Rangers with an undisclosed injury, day-to-day.

Deja Vu For Devils, Ponikarovsky

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky scored his third goal of the season and first as a Devil in Friday's win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored against Philadelphia in his debut for New Jersey last season. He was reacquired from Winnipeg on Wednesday to help fill the void left by an injured Dainius Zubrus (wrist). Ponikarovsky is on the top line for now, a line that combined for two goals and four assists on Friday.

Ponkarovsky To Re-Debut For Devils Friday

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky will play Friday against Philadelphia and likely skate on the team's top line with Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky was acquired on Wednesday to help fill the void left by Dainius Zubrus, who's expected to miss more almost two months recovering from wrist surgery. Poni played solidly with the Devils following a trade from the Hurricanes last February. Expect him to fill a variety of roles for the Devils, like Zubrus, but Ponikarovsky could have some value in deeper leagues should he get the odd assist on the team's top line.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Will Be Available To Play Friday

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky, who was traded to the Devils on Wednesday, said he will be available to play Friday against the Flyers, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Dainius Zubrus will need wrist surgery and could miss anywhere from two-to-eight weeks, so the Devils went ahead and reacquired Alexei Ponikarovsky from Winnipeg in exchange for draft picks. Ponikarovsky's set to join the Devils on Thursday, and considering his familiarity with the team, he could see a pretty decent chunk of ice time Friday.

Jets Trade Ponikarovsky To Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky was traded to the Devils on Wednesday in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2013 and a fourth-round pick in 2014, Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: A return to New Jersey is in store for Alexei Ponikarovsky, who played 33 games for the Devils last season. The 32-year-old winger has gotten off to a pretty slow start this season, but with Dainius Zubrus reportedly needing surgery, the Devils acquired Ponikarovsky, who's at least a replacement they're familiar with.

Jets' Ponikarovsky Quiet

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky has just one goal along with a minus-2 rating through eight games this season.
Analysis: The days of Alexei Ponikarovsky chipping in at a 50-point clip (full season) are well in the past, while his role now with the Jets doesn't portend much for fantasy owners to get excited about as he's skating just 12:29 per game with minimal power-play time.

Jets' Ponikarovsky Headed To KHL

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky has agreed to a deal with Donbass Donetsk of the KHL with the NHL locked out, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky, who agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets in July, will join Philadelphia's Ruslan Fedotenko as teammates on the Ukraine-based club. He'll return to the Jets when the lockout ends.

Jets Ink Ponikarovsky To One-Year Deal

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million deal with the Jets on Sunday, The Sporting News reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky registered 33 points for the Devils last season. He was a difference maker in the final two games of the Devils' Stanley Cup Finals loss to the Kings, as he recorded an assist in each of the last three games, two of which were Devils wins.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Pots OT Winner In Game 3

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky scored his first goal of the playoffs Thursday, putting his own rebound past the Flyers' Ilya Bryzgalov to send New Jersey to the win and a 2-1 series lead. He also assisted on Ilya Kovalchuk's first-period tally.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky is perhaps the unlikeliest of heroes, as he'd recorded just two assists and 10 shots on goal in the first nine games of the playoffs. He certainly clicked with his countryman Kovalchuk in this game, and could see more time opposite him in Game 4.

Ponikarovsky Fits In With Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky finished the season with just 33 points, though he did have 18 of those and a plus-9 in 33 games with the Devils, with whom he's entering the playoffs.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky seemed to fit in well with New Jersey after being acquired from the Hurricanes, with whom he had a disastrous first 49 games (15 points, minus-12). He's been a 20-goal scorer in the league before, and perhaps he'll be able to recapture that next season with New Jersey. A strong playoff performance would make the Devils more likely to re-sign Ponikarovsky, who will be a free agent.

Ponikarovsky Returns For Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky returned from a minor knee injury in Thursday's win over the Islanders, finishing with no points in 13:32 of ice time.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky has 11 points over 16 games for New Jersey and was missed on the team's checking line over the last three games. In league's that roll many forwards, the well-traveled winger is worth a look, but keep your expectations tempered.

New Jersey's Ponikarovsky To Play Thursday

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (right knee) will play Thursday against the Islanders, Bergen Record writer Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky, who has notched 11 points in 17 games with the Devils, missed Tuesday's game against the Rangers, but that fact he has been green lit for Thursday confirms that his MCL sprain was indeed minor.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Out With MCL Sprain

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky will miss Tuesday's game against the Rangers due to a minor MCL sprain, Bergen Record writer Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky plans to practice Wednesday, however, so it seems as if the sprain is less severe than is typical with knee ligaments.

New Jersey's Ponikarovsky Avoids Serious Injury

News: An MRI on Alexei Ponikarovsky's knee showed that everything is fine, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky won't play Sunday against the Islanders, but coach Pete DeBoer said that he anticipates the veteran will skate Monday. Consider Ponikarovsky day-to-day, as a result.

Ponikarovsky Doubtful For Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (knee) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Islanders, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Given that Alexei Ponikarovsky had an MRI on his knee on Saturday, it's unlikely he will play Sunday, marking the second-straight game he's missed. The veteran has fit in well on the Devils since arriving from Carolina with 11 points in 15 games.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Undergoes MRI

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (leg) underwent an MRI exam Saturday, Tom Gulitti of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The results of the MRI were not immediately available, but head coach Pete DeBoer was optimistic about the results, noting the exam was "precautionary." Despite DeBoer's positive outlook, the coach also added that Alexei Ponikarovsky will likely sit out Sunday because he did not skate Saturday. Expect an update on Ponikarovsky's status when more details of his injury become available.

Ponikarovsky Out Friday For Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky (leg) will miss Friday's game against Washington, Bergen Record writer Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Those who have capitalized on Alexei Ponikarovsky's surge in post-trade production will need to look elsewhere Friday.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Playing Solidly

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky scored his third goal in five games, grabbing one of New Jersey's three tallies in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky has 11 points in 15 games since joining the Devils and has fit in well on the team's third line with Dainius Zubrus and Steve Bernier. The well-traveled Russian makes a heady pickup in leagues that roll many forwards; if only the Leafs had players like Ponikarovsky.

Ponikarovsky Scores Again For Devils

News: Alexei Ponikarovsky grabbed one of New Jersey's two goals in Friday's shootout win over Anaheim, giving him three points in the last four games.
Analysis: Alexei Ponikarovsky has ingratiated himself well into New Jersey, being active on the team's checking line and putting up a solid amount of points for a defensive-minded player. Since arriving in New Jersey, Ponikarovsky has nine points in 11 games and is well worth a look in deep leagues that roll many forwards.

Devils' Ponikarovsky Strong Post All-Star Performance

News: Ponikarovksy registered a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-4 win over Philadelphia, the second-straight game in which he has posted two points.
Analysis: Odds are that Alexei Ponikarovsky will not play at a two-point-per-game pace the remainder of the season, but he has made a positive impact since his arrival in New Jersey. He's being used mostly as a third-line forward, but he is showing some chemistry with his new teammates. Those in very deep leagues may want to look at Ponikarovsky, but don't expect too much.
