Devils' Ryder Records Assist Tuesday

News: Michael Ryder picked up an assist in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: A healthy scratch for much of the last couple of months, Michael Ryder has since reentered the Devils' lineup the last two games while Patrik Elias deals with back spasms. Even so, Ryder's role with the team is far from secure, as he's seen less than 13 minutes in both games while occupying a bottom-six spot. Once Elias is cleared to play, it's likely Ryder will head back to the press box.

Devils Make Ryder A Healthy Scratch

News: Michael Ryder will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game Friday versus the Penguins, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The returns of Tuomu Ruutu and Jaromir Jagr from illnesses have forced the Devils to drop a forward from their lineup since the All-Star break, and Michael Ryder has been the casualty on both occasions. The Devils like the tenacity Jordin Tootoo brings to the fourth line on a nightly basis, so it wouldn't be surprising if Ryder remains a press-box regular until an injury opens up another opportunity for the winger.

Two Points For Devils' Ryder

News: Michael Ryder recorded a goal and assist in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Kings.
Analysis: It's the fourth two-point outing of the season for Michael Ryder, who skated on the Devils' second line next to Mike Cammalleri and Dainius Zubrus on Wednesday. Despite the decent-sized role he's carved out at even strength and on the power play, Ryder has only 18 points in 40 games this season. He'll need to deliver a sustained run of scoring before warranting more interest.

Devils' Ryder Strikes In Return

News: Michael Ryder returned to the lineup Friday, scoring a goal and recording four shots on goal in a loss to Montreal.
Analysis: Michael Ryder, who had missed the past four games with the mumps virus, now has 15 points (five goals) in 35 games. His goal Friday was his first point in 10 games, as the 34-year-old has been an inconsistent and frustrating fantasy option this season. Until he starts putting up points more consistently, Ryder can't be trusted in most fantasy formats.

Devils' Ryder Set To Play Friday

News: GM Lou Lamoriello said after Friday's morning skate that Michael Ryder (illness) would be activated to play in the game later in the evening against the Canadiens, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Michael Ryder wasn't expected to return to action until next week after he logged his first skate with the team Friday morning, but because he never ran a fever while dealing with the mumps, it doesn't appear that conditioning is an issue for him. He'll likely assume a spot with the team's bottom-six forwards in his return to action.

Devils' Ryder Skating With Team

News: Michael Ryder (mumps) rejoined the Devils for Friday's morning skate, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Michael Ryder skated as an extra forward and doesn't look as though he'll return to the lineup Friday night against the Canadiens, but it appears safe to say that he's past the infectious stage in his recovery from the mumps. He could be a candidate to return for Saturday's game versus the Flyers, but waiting until next week may afford him more time to regain energy and strength.

Devils Place Ryder On IR

News: The Devils placed Michael Ryder (illness) on IR on Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports.
Analysis: Michael Ryder is still out with the mumps, so the team will free up a roster spot while he's sidelined. Either Stefan Matteau or Joe Whitney will play in Ryder's place against the Penguins on Monday.

Ryder The Latest Devil With The Mumps

News: Michael Ryder was diagnosed with the mumps Saturday, NHL.com's Shawn Roarke reports.
Analysis: Michael Ryder will be isolated from the team until his symptoms subside. The virus appears to be spreading rapidly through the team, as Adam Larsson, Patrik Elias, Scott Clemmenson, and Travis Zajac have all dealt with or currently have the mumps. Most players who have succumbed to the mumps have missed about a week of action, so expect a similar timetable to be in store for Ryder.

Two Helpers For Devils' Ryder

News: Michael Ryder tallied a pair of assists -- one on the power play -- in Thursday's 5-3 win over Toronto.
Analysis: A nice effort for Michael Ryder after he watched Tuesday's game from the press box as a healthy scratch. The former 35-goal man nonetheless has not found twine since Nov. 6, and he has a modest five assists in 12 games since that two-goal performance against St. Louis.

Ryder's Two Late Goals Not Enough To Lift Devils

News: Michael Ryder scored two goals in the final four minutes of the third period Thursday against St. Louis, but he and the Devils were nonetheless stuck with a 4-3 loss.
Analysis: The Blues led 3-0 entering the late stages of the third period, only to see Michael Ryder lead New Jersey in a spirited comeback attempt that fell just short thanks to a late insurance goal by the Blues' David Backes. Ryder's offense remains highly inconsistent, but he does own a fairly respectable nine points in 13 games.

Devils' Ryder Claims Seventh Point Of Season

News: Michael Ryder picked up an assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: In addition to picking up his seventh point in 11 games this season, Michael Ryder paced the Devils with three hits on the evening. He's been a reliable contributor on the team's third line and could approach 40 points by the time the season concludes.

Three-Point Opener For Devils' Ryder

News: Michael Ryder scored a goal, handed out two assists and went plus-2 in Thursday's season-opening win over the Flyers.
Analysis: On a weird night for the Devils, Michael Ryder had his first three-point game since April 4, 2013, when he was with the Canadiens. Don't expect many more efforts like this from the 34-year-old, who had 34 points in 82 games last season and is stuck on the third line -- albeit a strong third line with Adam Henrique and Ryane Clowe.

Ryder Scores Again For Devils

News: Michael Ryder potted a power-play goal in Thursday's preseason loss to the Islanders, his third goal in two preseason games.
Analysis: Michael Ryder was maddeningly inconsistent last season, his first with the Devils. He is one of several New Jersey players expected to see significant power-play time and top-six minutes. Ryder can score, but how often he does so is the question. He finished last season with 18 goals scattered across all 82 games, his lowest total per-game total since the 2010-11 season.

Devils' Ryder Ends Goal-Scoring Slump

News: Michael Ryder scored his first goal in nearly three weeks Thursday in a shootout loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: In fact, it was the Devils' only goal of the game. Michael Ryder's last tally came March 20, and he'd had just two assists in the nine games since.

Devils' Ryder Mired In Massive Slump

News: Michael Ryder has just one goal in the last 27 games and has seen time on the team's fourth line in recent games.
Analysis: Michael Ryder's lone goal came in last Thursday's win over Minnesota, but he has been demoted to the team's checking line and has seen his power play-time drastically cut in the last three tilts, playing just 1:09 total while averaging over 2:20 most of the season. Ryder simply isn't a reliable player for consistent production.

Devils' Ryder Playing Saturday

News: Michael Ryder was on the ice for pregame warmups Saturday, while Ryan Carter was not, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: A previous report said that Michael Ryder was likely the unspecified Devil in danger of missing Saturday's game, but it now appears that Carter was the man all along. Carter thus figures to sit, while Ryder is presumably good to go.

Devils' Ryder May Be Game-Time Call Saturday

News: Michael Ryder has been dealing with a minor back injury and may be a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against Tampa Bay, Tom Gulitti's Fire & Ice blog reports
Analysis: Devils coach Pete DeBoer said that one of his team's forwards will be a game-time decision Saturday, and The Record's Tom Gulitti makes a very strong case that Michael Ryder is that forward. Whether or not Ryder plays Saturday, it would appear that he's merely day-to-day and not facing a prolonged absence.

Devils' Ryder Struggling

News: Michael Ryder racked up 16 goals and 11 assists in 59 games before the Olympic break.
Analysis: The Devils have leaned on Michael Ryder for offensive production since the departure of Ilya Kovalchuk, but he's been ice cold lately, posting just one point in the last nine games. The veteran winger will need to heat up after the break in order to retain his fantasy value.

Devils' Ryder On Goal Binge

News: Michael Ryder's goal streak now stands at four games and four goals after he opened the scoring for the Devils in Saturday's OT win over the Panthers. He has six goals in his last nine games after netting just 10 in his first 37.
Analysis: Looks like Rip Van Winkle has woken up. Michael Ryder came to Jersey to score goals and he's finally doing just that. Take advantage.

Devils' Ryder Only Man In Thursday

News: Michael Ryder was the only player to find twine Thursday in a 1-0 victory over the Stars.
Analysis: That's goals in three straight and a pair of game-winners in the last five contests for Michael Ryder, who's finally seeing some course correction in his stats following an atrocious start to the year. He's scored six goals and added two assists in his last 10 games. The fact that Thursday's goal came against his former Dallas employers, who traded him to Montreal last year, only makes it sweeter.

Ryder Scores In New Jersey Win

News: Michael Ryder scored the game-winning goal and assisted on New Jersey's other tally in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Michael Ryder has three points in the last two games and three goals in the last six contests. He has more value in deeper leagues, as he likely won't return to his 30-goal form in the season's final 41 games, but he could finish with close to 25 goals.

Ryder Scores In New Jersey Loss

News: Michael Ryder scored one of New Jersey's two goals in Friday's overtime loss to Anaheim, giving him five goals in the last nine games.
Analysis: Michael Ryder has seven points over that span and has been one of the Devils' more quietly productive offensive players the past month. Ryder has rebounded nicely from a slow start and figures to keep seeing scoring chances for the Devils. Give him a look in deeper leagues or if you need a spot start in a daily lineup.

Devils' Ryder Notches Two Points In Loss

News: Michael Ryder scored his seventh goal of the season and added an assist in Wednesday's loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: Both of Michael Ryder's points game in the third-period, as he set up Andrei Loktionov's game-tying goal before giving the Devils a temporary lead with a score of his own just five minutes later. Ryder would finish the game as the team leader with five shots on goal, tying his season-high.

Devils' Ryder Scores Power-Play Goal In Loss

News: Michael Ryder scored a power-play goal in Friday's loss to the Leafs.
Analysis: Michael Ryder's late third-period goal tied the game at one apiece to send the contest to overtime. Unfortunately, Ryder couldn't come up clutch another time, as goalie Jonathan Bernier stopped him on his shootout attempt en route to another Devils loss. With seven points in 16 games, Ryder isn't an egregious underachiever like some of his other mates, but more offense was probably expected after he amassed 10 goals and 11 assists in just 27 games with the Canadiens last season.

Ryder joins Devils for 2 years, $7 million

News: Michael Ryder has signed a two-year, $3.5 million per year contract with the Devils, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Michael Ryder will see a top-six role in New Jersey, lining up with either Ilya Kovalchuk on the first line or Patrick Elias on the second unit. A first power play gig could also be in the offering. The 33-year-old Ryder had 16 goals and 35 points in 46 games last season, split between Dallas and Montreal.
