News:Dany Sabourin was recalled Tuesday, the Capitals' official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: The 31-year-old goaltender went 3-2 with a 3.19 GAA in this year's Calder Cup (AHL) playoffs. Dany Sabourin hasn't appeared in an NHL game since 2008-09, but he may get a chance to back up Braden Holtby in Wednesday's Game 3 against the Rangers.
News:Dany Sabourin was assigned to the AHL on Friday, the Capitals' official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: The 31-year-old was called up on Apr. 7, but didn't appear in any NHL games this season. He posted a 2.76 GAA in 37 games for the Hershey Bears of the AHL this season, but he hasn't played in the NHL since the 2008-09 season. It appears Michal Neuvirth (lower body) could be ready to back up Braden Holtby in Saturday's Game 5 against Boston.
News:Dany Sabourin was recalled from the AHL on Saturday, Capitals.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Sobourin's call-up seems to imply that Washington could be without both Tomas Vokoun and Michael Neuvirth against the Rangers on Saturday.
News:Dany Sabourin was returned to Hershey (AHL) on Sunday, Katie Carrera of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: This is a good indication that Michal Neuvirth is almost healthy again, but we'll keep an eye out for any other transactions involving the Caps' netminders in the coming days.
News: The Caps called up Dany Sabourin from Hershey of the AHL on Saturday, The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The team had sent Braden Holtby back down to Hershey on Friday, but after Michal Neuvirth missed Saturday's practice, they still needed someone to be the backup Saturday night. Dany Sabourin will be that backup.
News: Sabourin cleared waivers Friday and reported back to AHL Hershey, Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Sabourin was no longer needed in D.C. as Semyon Varlamov is ready to return to the team Saturday. Sabourin was not claimed and will back up Braden Holtby in Hershey going forward.
News: The Capitals placed Sabourin on waivers Thursday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: With Michal Neuvirth steadily improving and Semyon Varlamov close to coming back from injury, Sabourin was no longer needed in Washington. Assuming he goes unclaimed, he'll likely report to the AHL.
News: Bruins G Dany Sabourin, who was up while Tuukka Rask dealt with a knee injury, was reassigned to the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: Sabourin has no Fantasy value while down in the minors. Continue to ignore him.
News: On Saturday, the Bruins promoted director of hockey operations Don Sweeney to assistant general manager and also announced they had trimmed the roster down to 24 by sending 10 players, including goalie Dany Sabourin, to Providence of the American Hockey League. That means Tuukka Rask will back up Tim Thomas in net.
Analysis: We fully expected Rask to open the season as the Bruins backup goalie since he has pretty much done all the can in the minors. He will definitely see time in net for Boston, so consider him a nice No. 3 Fantasy goalie and flier in leagues that use average points per game. Sabourin is nothing more than organizational depth and has minimal Fantasy appeal as he is third on the team's depth chart. The Bruins TG has high-end Fantasy appeal.
News: The Bruins signed goalie Dany Sabourin to a one-year deal Tuesday. Additional terms of the contract were not released.
Analysis: The 28-year-old Sabourin split the 2008-09 season between Pittsburgh and Edmonton. He appeared in 19 games for the Pens, going 6-8-2 with a 2.85 GAA and .898 save percentage. He was then traded to Edmonton Jan. 17 and did not appeared in a game for the Oilers before being waived Jan. 20. Sabourin spent the rest of the season with Springfield of the AHL. He went 5-6-2 with a 3.17 GAA and .904 save percentage. Sabourin will likely begin the season third on the Bruins' depth chart at goalie behind Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask. Sabourin is merely organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy until further notice. The Bruins TG is still a high-end Fantasy option because of Thomas.
News: TSN reports that the Oilers have placed newly-acquired G Dany Sabourin on waivers.
Analysis: The Oilers had already said they didn't intend to hold on to Sabourin, so this move wasn't a huge surprise. He'll either clear waivers and head to the AHL, or will be picked up by another team. For now, he has zero Fantasy value.
News:The Sports Xchange reports the Oilers finally took care of their overcrowding problem in goal, dealing netminder Mathieu Garon to the Pittsburgh Penguins. "I knew from training camp that something was going to happen," Garon said. "But you never know when or where." The three-goalie predicament -- dubbed the three-headed monster in Edmonton -- had been cutting into everyone's practice and playing time, making it a sure-fire recipe for rust. So Garon goes to Pittsburgh for goalie Dany Sabourin, minor league center Ryan Stone and a fourth-round draft pick. GM Steve Tambellini said Sabourin won't be coming to Edmonton -- they'll either flip him in another deal or ship him to Springfield (AHL).
Analysis: Sabourin wasn't in a bad situation with the Penguins, but he wasn't getting much PT since Marc-Andre Fleury returned from a groin injury. He has proven to be a capable backup goalie, so some other NHL team could very well scoop him up. But he won't be inserted into the lineup as a starter and has little Fantasy value until further notice.
News: The Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers each tried to shore up a weak spot by swapping backup goaltenders Saturday, with the Penguins acquiring Mathieu Garon for Dany Sabourin, minor league forward Ryan Stone and a fourth-round draft pick in 2011.
Analysis: The deal involves two goalies who weren't satisfying their teams. Sabourin, at 28, is three years younger than Garon. Sabourin, a third-teamer last season, is 6-8-2 with an .898 save percentage that ranked 36th in the league and a 2.85 goals-against average. Garon has similar numbers - a 6-8 record, an .895 save percentage and a 3.17 goals-against average - but was Edmonton's starter in 2007-08 before losing his job to Dwayne Roloson. Last season, Garon was 26-18-1 with a 2.66 goals-against average. Sabourin can't really be trusted even as a flier at this point, so look elsewhere unless you're really in desperate need of a goalie in an extremely deep league.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin gave up four goals on 25 shots at Colorado on Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the Avalanche. He was pulled after the second period in favor of Marc-Andre Fleury who came in and allowed a goal and made six saves. Sabourin is now 6-8-2 on the season with five straight losses.
Analysis: Sabourin has been flat out awful over the past month, allowing three goals or more in seven of his last eight appearances for Pittsburgh. He can't really be trusted even as a flier at this point, so look elsewhere unless you're really in desperate need of a goalie in an extremely deep league.
News: Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury was pulled from Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Panthers after a first period in which he allowed two goals on five shots. But Florida scored on their first shot against backup Dany Sabourin -- and tallied three against him on 12 second-period shots before Fleury returned for the third. Fleury also finished with three goals on 12 shots allowed.
Analysis: Fleury has now lost three starts in a row, and it really doesn't matter who is in goal for the Penguins lately, as they are really struggling. Fleury remains the starter in the Steel City for now, and he is barely holding on to his No. 1 Fantasy goalie status. While owners in deeper leagues would probably like to bench him, the Penguins play four times in Fantasy Week 14 (Jan. 5-11), so that's really not an option. Sabourin is worth holding on to in deeper leagues, but shouldn't be starting in any format. The Penguins TG remains a No. 1 option, but only just.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin stopped 22 of 25 shots against the Boston Bruins on New Year's Day but it wasn't enough as Boston won 4-2. Sabourin allowed three goals in the game and the final tally came on the empty net.
Analysis: Sabourin fell below .500 with the loss Thursday and now holds a record of 6-7-2 on the year. He's lost his last five starts and is ice cold right now for Pittsburgh. No matter, Sabourin is just the Penguins backup to Marc-Andre Fleury and is only a flier in leagues that use averages. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin came into Saturday's game against the Leafs with his team trailing 5-2 in the third period. He gave up two more goals and the final score was 7-3.
Analysis: Fleury is usually solid in net, but not Saturday and that gave Sabourin a chance to play. He didn't do much with it, allowing two goals on seven shots. Sabourin remains only a flier in leagues that use averages. However, the Penguins TG is a high-end option despite a poor performance Saturday.
News: G Dany Sabourin got shelled in Marc-Andre Fleury's return to the Pittsburgh roster on Saturday. Sabourin gave up six goals and had only 21 saves in the thrashing. Usual starting goalie Fleury was on the bench for the Penguins and active. This may be the end of the road for Sabourin in terms of getting regular starts.
Analysis: With Fleury back, Saoburin's value in Fantasy plummets because Fleury is one of the better goalies in the league. Unless Fleury gets hurt again, Saborun is nothing more than a flier in leagues that use averages or a flier. The Penguins TG is a high-end option no matter who is in net.
News: Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will be in uniform for the Pittsburgh Penguins' game at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon after missing 12 games with a groin injury. Penguins coach Michel Therrien wouldn't say Friday if Fleury or Dany Sabourin would start against the Flyers. Rookie goalie John Curry, who stopped 24 of 26 shots during a 9-2 rout of the New York Islanders on Thursday night, was returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday.
Analysis: Fleury, who helped lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cup finals last season, was 8-3-2 with a 2.86 goals-against average before getting hurt during a 5-2 win against Buffalo on Nov. 15. Sabourin has made all but two starts since Fleury was hurt and is 6-5-2 with a 2.20 goals-against average this season. Sabourin has been great in Fleury's absence, but he is not as talented and will return to his backup role shortly. His time as a stopgap Fantasy option appears up.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin allowed three goals and had 28 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Devils on Wednesday. It was his third straight losing effort, dropping his overall record to 6-5-2 on the season. Two of the goals allowed came in the third period.
Analysis: With three straight losses, Penguins fans may be longing for usual starter Marc-Andre Fleury who is supposed to practice this week and could be back in net soon. This is a bad time for Sabourin to be struggling if he wants to keep getting starts when Fleury comes back. Sabourin is only a stopgap option and the Penguins' TG is a high-end option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin blew a 3-1 lead as Buffalo rallied for a 4-3 win Monday. Thomas Vanek's go-ahead goal, his NHL-best 20th of the season, completed the rally 6:13 into the third period. Sabourin allowed no power-play scores and made 25 saves in the loss.
Analysis: Sabourin has lost his last two starts, but has been pretty good in net since Marc-Andre Fleury went down with injury. Fleury is expected to practice this week and could return to net shortly, meaning Sabourin's time as a starter could be running out. Sabourin remains a stopgap Fantasy option for the time being. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin took a rare 3-2 loss on Saturday at Ottawa. He allowed three goals on 28 shots, with all of the goals coming in the second period. Jason Spezza scored all three goals, recording the hat trick.
Analysis: Sabourin still hasn't allowed more than three goals in a game and has played exceptionally well. Unfortunately for him on Saturday, the Pens took only 19 shots against Sentators G Alex Auld. The Pens want to keep sitting Marc-Andre Fleury as long as possible, so Sabourin's good play will earn him more starts. Sabourin is a good stopgap option for Week 10 (Dec. 8-14). The Penguins TG is a high-end option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin turned away 34 shots during Thursday's 5-2 rout of the Hurricanes. He never trailed in the game and didn't allow a goal until Pittsburgh built a 3-0 lead 2:12 into the second period. Sabourin allowed one power-play goal while winning for the second time in three starts.
Analysis: Sabourin still hasn't allowed more than three goals in an appearance this season, and the long he plays well, the longer Pittsburgh can afford to sit Marc-Andre Fleury (lower body). Sabourin remains a decent stopgap Fantasy option heading into Week 10 (Dec. 8-14). The Penguins TG is a high-end option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin took a 3-2 shootout loss on Wednesday at the New York Rangers. He allowed two goals came up with 25 saves, but allowed three pucks to get past him in the shootout. The loss drops Sabourin's record to 5-3-1 on the year.
Analysis: Despite the loss, Sabourin has been solid in net for the Penguins with the absence of Marc-Andre Fleury. With the length of Fleury's absence in doubt, Sabourin's usefulness continues to go up. Sabourin is a good stopgap option until Fleury comes back. The Penguins TG is a high-end option, especially when Fleury gets back.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin stopped 29 shots on Saturday against the Devils in a 4-1 victory. Sabourin allowed just one goal in the game on Mike Rupp's 3rd period goal to improve to 5-2-1 on the year.
Analysis: Sabourin has got a 1.96 goals against average and that was before allowing just one goal to the Devils on Saturday. He's been starting for injured goalie Marc-Andre Fleury but the No. 1 option is close to a return so we don't know how many more starts Sabourin will get. Sabourin is only a stop-gap option as long as he gets starts with Fleury out. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option since Sabourin has been playing well in Fleury's absence.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin was pulled after allowing three goals and stopping 11 shots in 29 minutes Wednesday against the Islanders. The Penguins would eventually come back to win the game 5-3 behind a strong showing from third-string goalie John Curry.
Analysis: Sabourin was lucky to avoid the loss on Wednesday. He's been starting for injured goalie Marc-Andre Fleury but the No. 1 option is close to a return and Curry looked better on Wednesday, anyway. Sabourin is only a stop-gap option as long as he gets starts with Fleury out.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced in the Penguins 3-1 loss to Vancouver on Saturday afternoon. Sabourin allowed just two goals in the game, however, as the Penguins emptied their net late to get an extra man.
Analysis: Sabourin falls to 4-2-1 on the season with the Saturday loss. He had won his last three games in regulation and has allowed a total of eight goals in that span of four games. Pittsburgh is hoping injured starter Mac-Andre Fleury will play Week 8 (Nov. 24-30), so Sabourin might only be a stopgap option for Week 7 (Nov. 17-24). The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin stopped 21 shots during a 3-2 win Thursday against the Thrashers. Sabourin allowed one power-play goal and kept Atlanta off the board in the third period despite facing 12 shots.
Analysis: Sabourin has started the last two games in place of an injured Marc-Andre Fleury (undisclosed) and has allowed just two goals. His strong play in net will allow Pittsburgh to keep Fleury on the bench Saturday against Vancouver. Pittsburgh is hoping Fleury will play Week 8 (Nov. 24-30), so Sabourin might only be a stopgap option for Week 7 (Nov. 17-24). The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Pittsburgh G Dany Sabourin stopped 24 of 25 shots in overtime and regulation on Tuesday night against the Wild but could not win in a shootout. Sabourin allowed the first shootout attempt he saw, a wrist shot from Marek Zidlicky, to get by him as the Wild won 3-2.
Analysis: Sabourin may have lost in a shootout on Tuesday but he played extremely well throughout the game in only his fifth action of the entire season. He was 3-1-0 coming into Tuesday. Starter Marc-Andre Fleury is dealing with a bit of an injury right now but if you weren't already starting Sabourin there is no need to get him active as Fleury should return shortly. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Pittsburgh Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury will miss Tuesday night's game against Minnesota because of an undisclosed injury. "It's not a major injury," coach Michel Therrien said Monday. "We just don't want to take a risk." Fleury will be replaced by Dany Sabourin, who has a 3-1 record and a 1.68 goals-against average.
Analysis: The Penguins are scheduled for three games in Fantasy Week 7 (Nov. 17-23), so Fleury will only get two starts at most in the period. Luckily, the other two contests are not back-to-back, so Fleury could still be worth using this week, although he is obviously a major risk. When healthy, Fleury is a No. 1 Fantasy goalie. The Penguins TG is also a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury couldn't hold a three-goal lead Thursday against the Flyers and was pulled for the first time since March 6 during a 5-4 shootout win. Backup goalie Dany Sabourin, who replaced Fleury to start the third, stopped 11 shots before turning aside all six Philadelphia skaters in the shootout. Philadelphia's Jeff Carter started the comeback against Fleury at 7:46 of the second with his 10th goal. Barely a minute later, Simon Gagne cut through Alex Goligoski and Evgeni Malkin on a short-handed breakaway and, with Malkin draped on his shoulder, put a backhander past Fleury. Gagne tied it at 3 slightly more than five minutes later with his 11th career short-handed goal and second of the game, and Joffrey Lupul put the Flyers up by deflecting Kimmo Timonen's shot with four seconds left in the period.
Analysis: Sabourin has now won three of his four appearances this season and continues to be a solid backup to Fleury. However, he is not close to taking over the No. 1 job in Pittsburgh and remains just a flier in leagues that use average points per game. He is also a handcuff option for Fleury owners.
News: The Pittsburgh Penguins won 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night against the New York Islanders and Penguins goalie Dan Sabourin stopped 19 shots in regulation and overtime. He also allowed three goals in the game. Sabourin stopped shots from Doug Weight, Bill Guerin and Trent Hunter in the shootout and didn't allow one passed him for the victory.
Analysis: Sabourin picked up his second victory on the season in three games played. He's 2-1-0 and has allowed six goals in three starts. Marc-Andre Fleury remains the No. 1 option in Pittsburgh, but Sabourin is worth owning in deeper leagues because the Penguins are such a strong team. The Penguins TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Pittsburgh lost to San Jose, 2-1, on Tuesday night and G Dany Sabourin allowed both goals to cross through the pipes. He stopped 32 shots for the Penguins but it wasn't enough and Mike Grier got one past him in the 3rd period to put the Sharks up for good.
Analysis: This was just the second appearance of the season for Sabourin. He won his other outing and has allowed just three goals in two starts with 67 saves. Marc-Andre Fleury remains the No. 1 option in Pittsburgh, but Sabourin is worth owning in deeper leagues because the Penguins are such a strong team. The Penguins TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Penguins G Dany Sabourin will get the start Tuesday night at San Jose.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Fleury remains the No. 1 option in Pittsburgh, but Sabourin is worth owning in deeper leagues because the Penguins are such a strong team. The Penguins TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Pittsburgh goaltender Dany Sabourin's strong season debut spoiled the Bruins' home opener. Evgeni Malkin scored in the second extra round of the shootout to lift the Penguins to a 2-1 victory against Boston on Monday night. "If it wasn't for him (Sabourin) tonight, early on, we would have been down by two or three," Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik said. Sabourin had 35 saves in the win. He allowed only one goal on Phil Kessel's power-play goal 13:53 into the second when he unloaded a wrister over Sabourin's glove from the top of the right circle.
Analysis: Sabourin had to split time as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup in 2007-08 with Ty Conklin, who is now in Detroit backing up Chris Osgood. The Penguins have a lot of faith in Sabourin, but as long as Fleury is healthy, he will be the guy Pittsburgh turns to more often than not. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News:The Sports Xchange reports the Penguins will enter the season with a firm commitment to Dany Sabourin as their No. 2 goaltender. Sabourin held that responsibility for much of last season, but he was relegated to No. 3 after starter Marc-Andre Fleury returned from injury in late February. Ty Conklin was the Penguins' No. 2 during the playoffs, but his departure to Detroit has left a veteran void beyond Fleury and Sabourin in the organization.
Analysis: Sabourin played in a career-high 24 games last season, posting a 10-9-2 record. He also had a 2.75 GAA, .904 save percentage and two shutouts. Fleury will do most of the goaltending for Pittsburgh in 2008-09 as long as he is healthy. Therefore, Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game.
News: Backup goalie Dany Sabourin made 17 saves for the Penguins, who beat the Canadiens 5-4 for their third in a row and moved ahead of New Jersey for the Atlantic Division lead with 75 points.
Analysis: Sabourin is the backup in Pittsburgh and his Fantasy value is best as a No. 3 goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Penguins goalie Danny Sabourin was drilled with 46 shots on Thursday and gave up goals in each period in a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Sabourin made his second start in February, but only third in the last month and a half.
Analysis: Sabourin is the backup in Pittsburgh and his Fantasy value is best as a No. 3 goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin won for only the second time in the last 20 games he started for Pittsburgh in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Sabourin has only four appearances over the span. He made 26 saves despite allowing goals by Derek Armstrong and Brian Boyle in the third period.
Analysis: Sabourin is the backup in Pittsburgh and his Fantasy value is best as a No. 3 goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News:Dany Sabourin replaced Ty Conklin early in the third period and stopped all seven shots in the Penguins' 4-1 loss to the Thrashers on Wednesday night. Conklin allowed four goals on 20 shots.
Analysis: Sabourin remains the backup goalie in Pittsburgh and is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: The Penguins pulled Dany Sabourin from net Monday against the Capitals after he allowed four goals on 13 shots. Sabourin was pulled 7:42 into the second period and was replaced by Ty Conklin, who allowed one goal on 17 shots. However, he took the overtime loss after allowing two goals in a shootout.
Analysis: The Pens rewarded Sabourin's solid play Saturday against the Canadiens (shutout) with another start Monday, but he couldn't deliver for a second straight game. He remains the backup goalie in Pittsburgh and is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News:Dany Sabourin made 31 saves for his second shutout and the Pittsburgh Penguins won their first game without injured Sidney Crosby, 2-0 over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Sabourin got his first career shutout in a 5-0 win in New Jersey on Nov. 5.
Analysis: Sabourin made his first appearance since Dec. 21 one night after Ty Conklin took his first regulation loss in his 11th straight start. He can be used as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option. The Penguins TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: G Dany Sabourin may have gotten his hopes up before the pregame warm-ups when the public address announcer said he was starting Thursday against Tampa Bay. Instead, Ty Conklin made his seventh straight start one day after being named the NHL's No. 3 star last week.
Analysis: Sabourin has not started a game since Dec. 21. Sabourin can be used as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy option. The Penguins TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin made 20 saves during a 4-2 loss Friday against the Islanders. Sabourin was back in net after Ty Conklin played in Boston Thursday. Sabourin has now lost two straight starts and has allowed eight goals in that span. He has lost four of five as well.
Analysis: Sabourin has gotten out to a ho-hum start since learning he will be the No. 1 goalie in net as Marc-Andre Fleury is sidelined with an injury for the next two months. He is not as strong as a goalie as Fleury, but can be used as a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Penguins TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News:Dany Sabourin made 27 saves for the Penguins during a 4-0 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. It was his third loss in his last four outings. He has allowed a total of 14 goals in that span.
News: Pittsburgh got 27 saves from Dany Sabourin during a 3-2 win Saturday against the Islanders. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Sabourin, who learned Wednesday that he will become the team's starting goalie with Marc-Andre Fleury (ankle) out for two months.
Analysis: Sabourin has been a hot pickup in Fantasy leagues since he now inherits a starting NHL gig. He is not as strong as a goalie as Fleury, but can be used as a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Penguins TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin made 22 saves in his 21st career start during Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Senators. Sabourin, who allowed only three goals, made his first start since learning that he will be the team's starting goalie the next two months as Marc-Andre Fleury is sidelined with an injury.
Analysis: Sabourin has been a hot pickup in Fantasy leagues since he now inherits a starting NHL gig. He is not as strong as a goalie as Fleury, but can be used as a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Penguins TG is also a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, unbeaten the last three weeks, has a sprained ankle that will keep him out of the Pittsburgh Penguins' lineup for up to two months. Penguins forward Maxime Talbot has a similar injury and may be out a month. Both Fleury and Talbot were examined Wednesday by a team doctor after the Penguins returned from an eight-day road trip. Fleury and Talbot have a severe sprain that occurs in the ligaments of the upper ankle and takes longer to heal. The team said the minimum Fleury will be out is six weeks, or until late January.
Analysis: Even if Fleury can return in late January, he would miss 19 games - or nearly one-quarter of the schedule. Coach Michel Therrien does not expect the club to add another goaltender, which means the Penguins will go with former Vancouver backup Dany Sabourin as their starter. Sabourin, at least statistically, has played better than Fleury this season, but Sabourin was pulled after allowing five goals in two periods of an 8-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. He is 6-5-1 with a 2.50 goals-against average. Ty Conklin will back up Sabourin, but he has little Fantasy value. Sabourin becomes a solid Fantasy player as a No. 2 goalie. Before Tuesday's game, he has allowed just 12 goals total in five starts.
News: The Flyers scored five goals against Pittsburgh goalie Dany Sabourin before he was yanked for Ty Conklin to start the third Tuesday.
Analysis: Sabourin continues to start in goal for the Pens with Marc-Andre Fleury (ankle) still sidelined. Sabourin is a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie replacement.
News:Dany Sabourin goaltended the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Sabourin made 35 saves for the Penguins in regulation and overtime, then stopped five of six in shootout as Pittsburgh won for the seventh time in eight games. Sabourin never started a game in Vancouver during his season with the Canucks, but he was very familiar with their shooters. "Oh yeah, I was pretty familiar with what they were trying to do so that was an advantage for me," said Sabourin, who was starting after Marc-Andre Fleury hurt his ankle in Calgary Thursday night. "I have to take it like just another game but to win against my old teammates, I think it's a bonus for me." Fleury is listed as day-to-day, but was wearing a walking boot in the press box.
Analysis: Sabourin is used to watching Luongo, his opponent Saturday, since it's something he did from the bench to start 75 of 82 games last year. But this time he got to see it from across the ice. Sabourin was good when he needed to be, making his best early saves off Sami Salo power-play blasts before the Canucks seemed to find their legs midway through the second period. "He s made some huge saves, given us a chance to win," Crosby said of Sabourin. "Anyone will tell you without goaltending in this league, you're not going to go far." Fleury had won straight starts before the injury, but you should consider him an injury-risk starter for Week 11 (Dec. 10-16). Sabourin is a solid No. 2 Fantasy goalie replacement.
News: Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury left Thursday's game at Calgary just 4:39 into the first period and was replaced Dany Sabourin. Fleury had fallen and was momentarily out of position just prior to that, but recovered to get back into the net. Sabourin was able to pick up the OT win.
Analysis: Sabourin made 24 saves in regulation and overtime. Fleury continues to be the top goalie in Pittsburgh, so don't overreact here. The Penguins TG is also on the right track to being a high-end Fantasy option. Sabourin gets a start about three times every two weeks, and he's a nice No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin made 37 saves during a 4-2 loss Saturday against the Maple Leafs. He allowed just three goals and Toronto sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Alexei Ponikarovsky.
Analysis: Sabourin has now lost three of his last four starts, while allowing three goals in each of those four outings. He is once again in a backup role to Marc-Andre Fleury and is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option at this time.
News:Dany Sabourin came off the bench to replace Marc Andre-Fleury and stopped Ottawa's potent scorers in a shootout. Sabourin denied four shooters in a row and Jarkko Ruutu scored on Pittsburgh's fifth shootout attempt to give the Penguins a 6-5 victory over the Senators on Thursday night. Sabourin replaced Fleury after Chris Phillips' power-play goal gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead at 10:55 of the first. Sabourin stopped Antoine Vermette, Dany Heatley, Mike Fisher and Dean McAmmond in the shootout for the win after making 29 saves in regulation. Fleury made just two saves before getting the early hook.
Analysis: Sabourin won for the first time since Nov. 5 by beating the mighty Senators. With the way Fleury has been playing as of late, don't be surprised if Sabourin earns another start coming up. He is still nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or someone to use in leagues that have average points per game. The Penguins TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option until the wins consistently start rolling in.
News: Thursday night will mark the first time the Penguins and Senators have played and both will go into the game with different goaltenders. Ottawa will more than likely start Martin Gerber (13-2-0, 1.85 goals-against average), who is the odds-on favorite to win the Vezina Trophy at the season's quarter point, while the Penguins will play Dany Sabourin, who is 3-3-1 with a 2.18 GAA.
Analysis: Sabourin is still more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option at this time.
News:Dany Sabourin turned aside only 18 shots Monday against New Jersey as coach Michel Therrien again benched inconsistent starter Marc-Andre Fleury. "It's just too bad that one turnover cost us the game at the end," said Sabourin, who is 3-3-1. Therrien agreed, saying, "One scoring chance. It's tough to win in this league if you are giving up bad goals. That's happening to us right now."
Analysis: Sabourin allowed three goals to get by in the loss. Sabourin started for the first time since dropping a 3-1 decision to the Flyers at Mellon Arena on Nov. 7. Therrien said he still has faith in Marc-Andre Fleury, but admitted Fleury is struggling both on and off the ice. "There are a lot of guys doing well ... but there are a few guys struggling," Therrien said. "It always seems worse when it is your goalie. He is the last guy. But we did not lose faith in Marc-Andre." Sabourin is still more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option at this time.
News: Sitting on the bench and watching Dany Sabourin hasn't been easy for Marc-Andre Fleury. The Penguins' goaltender played only once since being yanked 49 seconds into the second period of a 4-3 shootout loss to Montreal on Oct. 27. In fact, since posting his eighth-career shutout against the Rangers on Oct. 23, Fleury has gone 0-2-0 with a no-decision, has stopped only 70-of-81 shots (86.4 percent) and a 4.73 goals-against average. Despite his recent struggles, he hasn't given up hope of reclaiming his starting spot. "I just have to work hard in practice and work on stuff I need to work on," Fleury said. "I think a lot has to do with what's in my head. I just have to come down and relax and play like I'm used to."
Analysis: Fleury is expected to start against the Rangers on Thursday, but at this point, considering Sabourin went into Wednesday's game against Philadelphia in the top 10 in the league in save percentage and goals-against average, Sabourin may have to play himself out of the lineup. "It's a great thing the way Dany is playing right now," Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. "He's a top-two goalie in this league and he deserves to play." Sabourin is still more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option at this time.
News: Penguins coach Michel Therrien stayed with Dany Sabourin on Wednesday against the Flyers after he shut out the Devils 5-0 on Monday, even though Marc-Andre Fleury was 8-0 against the Flyers last season and 10-3 with a 2.74 goals-against average in 14 career appearances. The gamble didn't pay off. Sabourin made only 17 saves during Wednesday's 3-1 loss.
Analysis: Don't be surprised if Therrien uses Sabourin while Fleury is struggling, but he is still technically the backup in Pittsburgh. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG is a low-end No. 1 Fantasy option at this time.
News: Dany Sabourin made 20 saves for his first shutout to lead the Penguins to a 5-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night. He preserved the shutout with a sensational glove save on Paul Martin midway through the period, the toughest of the six shots he faced in the final period. "I'm pretty happy to get the shutout, but it was a big night for the team," Sabourin said. "They played well in front of me all night."
Analysis: Sabourin started for the third time in four games, even though coach Michel Therrien said he was not displeased with G Marc-Andre Fleury's overall performance in a loss to the Islanders in New York on Saturday. Fleury stopped 36 of 39 shots in that game but allowed a late winning goal to New York's Miroslav Satan, who cashed in on a rebound. Sabourin is receiving about one appearance a week in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. Fleury still remains a high-end Fantasy goalie for the time being. The Penguins TG remains a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TG.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin made 30 saves while making his 18th career start, but it wasn't enough as Colorado rallied for three third-period goals during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Avalanche. It was Sabourin's first loss this season.
Analysis: Sabourin is receiving about one appearance a week in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG remains a low-end No. 1 Fantasy TG.
News: Dany Sabourin allowed two goals, but made 28 saves, in a win at Minnesota on Tuesday.
Analysis: Sabourin is receiving about one appearance a week in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Forty-nine seconds into the second period during Saturday's game against the Canadiens, Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury's night was over. Michael Ryder beat him high on the glove side on a clean wrist shot from just above the right faceoff circle. Fleury, who allowed three goals on 15 shots, was lifted by Penguins coach Michel Therrien and replaced with Dany Sabourin, who did not allow a goal on 13 shots. He failed to record the win after being beaten in a shootout.
Analysis: Sabourin has relieved Fleury twice this season and has made just two starts -- one in which he was pulled very early. He is receiving about one appearance a week in relief of Fleury. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Sidney Crosby had the winning shootout goal and the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Friday night. After Crosby's goal, Pittsburgh goalie Dany Sabourin made the first save of the shootout, using his glove on Ray Whitney's wrist shot to seal the victory. All three Penguins shooters scored in the shootout against goalie Cam Ward. Sabourin made 19 saves before the shootout period. He allowed a goal in the first period and two in the second frame.
Analysis: Sabourin was much better in his second start than his first against the Maple Leafs when he was pulled after one period. He is receiving about one appearance a week in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period. The Penguins TG is definitely worth using as a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Penguins G Dany Sabourin started in net Saturday against the Maple Leafs, but was pulled during the first period. Marc-Andre Fleury entered in relief and picked up the win. He allowed two goals and stopped 19 shots. Sabourin was pulled after allowing two goals on eight shots. The Penguins won 6-4.
Analysis: Fleury has had a rough start to the season, but the Penguins are a top offensive team and that should keep him surrounded by wins more often than not. He remains a must-start Fantasy option, as is the Penguins TG. Sabourin is more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and a flier in leagues that use average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury had a rough opening night Friday against the Hurricanes. He allowed two goals in the first and second period, and was pulled before the third period began. He stopped 22 shots in the 4-1 loss to Carolina. Dany Sabourin faced seven shots in the third period and stopped every shot that came his way.

Analysis: Sabourin was making his second start in 2007 and his first since February 20. He is only worth using as a reserve in all larger Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Sabourin stopped 38 shots for his first NHL victory, Daniel Sedin scored on a power play 2:19 into overtime, and the Canucks beat Anaheim 3-2 on Tuesday night in a matchup of division leaders. "It was a team effort, and Dany came up really big for us," coach Alain Vigneault said. "He did a very good job in there and we were able to score two power-play goals. That was the difference."
Analysis: Sabourin is rarely used and is not even worth using in most Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period unless Roberto Luongo suffers some sort of long-term injury.
News: Canucks G Dany Sabourin made 33 saves, but could not stop the Sabres in a shootout to earn his first win of the season on Friday. He allowed three regulation goals.
Analysis: Sabourin is not a recommended Fantasy option in any formats. He doesn't get that many starts playing behind Roberto Luongo.
News: Dany Sabourin saved 17 for the Canucks, who lost their second straight after winning all three games during last week's homestand. Sabourin, playing for the first time since Dec. 9 to give Roberto Luongo a night off, dropped to 0-3 on the season and 0-7 for his career.
Analysis: Sabourin is not a recommended Fantasy option in any formats, as he has just as many wins as you do while reading this.

News: Coach Michel Therrien announced Monday that Marc-Andre Fleury, the No. 1 pick in 2003, will start Thursday's season opener against Philadelphia. The 21-year-old Fleury was inconsistent throughout training camp before stopping 25 of 28 shots in a 4-2 exhibition loss Saturday to Buffalo. "We have a lot of confidence in the kid, even though during training camp he was not quite sharp," Therrien said. For now, the Penguins will carry three goalies in Fleury, Jocelyn Thibault and rookie Dany Sabourin. They risked losing Thibault or Sabourin on waivers if they tried to send either back to the minors.
Analysis: Sabourin could grow into a decent goalkeeper at some point, but he has too many obstacles to overcome before he becomes Fantasy viable in most leagues.
