Isles' Visnovsky Out Indefinitely

News: Lubomir Visnovsky has been ruled out indefinitely with a suspected concussion, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky was already ruled out for Thursday's Game 5 against the Capitals after failing to return to the ice for morning skate, and now it appears safe to rule him out for the remainder of the series, if not beyond. The blueliner missed 58 games last season with a concussion, and appeared to suffer another head injury that sidelined him briefly in Game 3 before the hit he took from Tom Wilson in Game 4 knocked him out for good. The 38-year-old will be a free agent after the season, and if he fails to return before the Isles' playoff run ends, it's possible his career could be over.

Isles' Visnovsky Out For Game 5

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (undisclosed) will not play in Thursday's Game 5 against the Capitals, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The Islanders haven't formally announced the nature or extent of Lubomir Visnovsky's injury, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he missed the remainder of the series after he took a jarring hit from the Capitals' Tom Wilson in Game 4 that bloodied the blueliner's face and quite possibly resulted in a concussion. Both Griffin Reinhart and Ryan Pulock will take part in pregame warmups Thursday, with coach Jack Capuano deciding thereafter which defenseman will replace Visnovsky on the third pairing.

No Update On Isles' Visnovsky

News: Coach Jack Capuano declined to provide an update on Lubomir Visnovsky (undisclosed) following Wednesday's practice, ESPN New York's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky left Tuesday's Game 4 in the second period after getting absolutely demolished on a hit by the Capitals' Tom Wilson. The Islanders haven't revealed the nature of his injury and likely won't have more information on the blueliner until he's formally evaluated later Wednesday. For the moment, it doesn't appear promising that he'll be able to play in Thursday's Game 5, which could open the door for top defense prospects Griffin Reinhart or Ryan Pulock to enter the lineup.

Isles' Visnovsky Exits With Injury In Game 4

News: Lubomir Visnovsky exited Tuesday's Game 4 against the Capitals with an undisclosed injury, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky took a huge hit from the Caps' Tom Wilson, bloodying the defenseman's face and sending him to the locker room. The nature of Visnovsky's injury should be made available at the conclusion of the game, but his absence will force the team to get by with five defensemen for the time being.

Isles' Visnovsky Picks Up Helper Sunday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky picked up an assist and put three shots on net in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: The 38-year-old was limited to just 53 games during the regular season, but he's come on strong of late for the Islanders now that he seems to be back to full health. He's notched a goal and seven assists over his last 11 games, dating back to March 13.

Isles' Visnovsky Scores In Isles Loss

News: Lubomir Visnovsky scored his fifth goal of the season in the Islanders 3-2 loss to Anaheim on Saturday.
Analysis: The goal had to feel good for Lubomir Visnovsky who had missed the past five games with a lower body injury. He has not had the season that neither he nor the Isles wanted and has also been a healthy scratch at times but with the team currently in an offensive slump he should remain back in the lineup as long as he stays healthy.

Isles' Visnovsky To Play Saturday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Ducks, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky will draw into the lineup for Calvin de Haan after skating the last two days without any complications. The 38-year-old missed the Isles' previous five games with the injury.

Isles' Visnovsky (Lower Body) Nearing Return

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) may return for Saturday's game against the Ducks, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky skated both Thursday and Friday, but he remains uncertain for the upcoming weekend. His return has already been delayed a couple of times.

Isles' Visnovsky Skates, But Return Not Close

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) was able to get in a skate Thursday, but it's not clear when he might get back into the lineup.
Analysis: Coach Jack Capuano indicated after Lubomir Visnovsky's skate that there was "no rush" to get the blueliner any action, so it seems as though he'll be brought along slowly while he recovers from the injury. The former top-tier defenseman looks to be a shell of himself at this point, as health issues have limited him to a combined 105 games over the last three seasons. With the Islanders boosting more depth than ever on the blue line with this year's additions of Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy, the 38-year-old Visnovsky simply isn't needed to take on a large role.

Isles' Visnovsky Doesn't Practice Wednesday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) didn't practice Wednesday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky practiced with the team Monday and has been skating with the team for a couple of days prior, so it would seem he suffered some sort of setback to not take to the ice Wednesday. There is no word from the Isles however if this was the case or if the team just thought it was best to give him a day off.

Isles' Visnovsky Closer To A Return

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) is getting closer to returning to game action, NHL.com's Brian Comptom reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky has been skating before practice for a few days now, but Monday marked the first time he participated with the team since suffering the injury. He won't return for Tuesday's tilt versus the Wild, but could play Thursday against the Kings.

Isles' Visnovsky Ruled Out For Saturday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (lower body) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Devils.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky was able to get in a skate prior to Thursday's practice, suggesting that his injury isn't being viewed as a long-term concern. Though the aging blueliner won't be available for the weekend, coach Jack Capuano is hopeful that Visnovsky will be back at some point next week.

Isles' Visnovsky Day-To-Day

News: Lubomir Visnovsky is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky won't play Tuesday against Chicago, with his status for Saturday's game against New Jersey now cloudy as well in light of the report that he is dealing with an injury.

Isles' Visnovsky Out Tuesday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky won't play Tuesday against Chicago, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky was also a scratch for Saturday's contest against Montreal, though at this stage it's unclear if his absence Tuesday is for added rest, or is an injury-related issue.

Isles' Visnovsky Back In The Lineup

News: Lubomir Visnovsky will draw back into the lineup Tuesday for the Islanders, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Coach Jack Capuano has been playing musical chairs between Lubomir Visnovsky and Brian Strait and Tuesday Strait was left without a chair when the music stops.

Visnovsky Won't Play Saturday For Islanders

News: Lubomir Visnovsky will be a healthy scratch Saturday for the Islanders, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: The Islanders and Lubomir Visnovsky played Friday, so this may be a case where coach Jack Capuano doesn't want the veteran defenseman to play back-to-back days. Brian Strait will enter the lineup in place of Visnovsky.

Isles' Visnovsky Will Play Sunday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky will return to the Islanders lineup Sunday versus the Canucks, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky is expected to take the place of Brian Strait. With the exception of Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy, coach Jack Capuano has been rotating five defensemen for four spots over the past few weeks with Visnovsky being sat most often. Visnvosky adds a powerful shot from the point but has has lapses in the defensive zone which has caught the wrath of Capuano and been the main reason for his being a healthy scratch.

Islanders' VIsnovsky Out Of Lineup Saturday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Capitals, but he will return to the lineup for Sunday's game against Vancouver Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Calvin de Haan will replace Lubomir Visnovsky on the third line Saturday afternoon.

Isles' Visnovsky Returns To Lineup

News: Lubomir Visnovsky is slated to return to the Islanders' lineup Thursday against the Preds.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky, who sat out Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, checks back into the the Isles' lineup with just one helper over his last six outings and with 13 points in 36 games to date, overall.

Visnovsky Won't Play Tuesday For The Islanders

News: Lubomir Visnovsky won't play Tuesday as the Islanders visit Carolina, according to the Islanders web site.
Analysis: No injury has been reported here so Lubomir Visnovsky is likely once again a healthy scratch. With Calvin de Haan ready to play once again it was either Visnovsky or Brian Strait who would ride the pine, and coach Jack Capuano prefers Strait at this point in time. However, some might wonder why, as Strait really doesn't add much on offense or defense.

Isles' Visnovsky To Be Healthy Scratch Thursday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky is healthy, but won't play Thursday at Philadelphia, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: "Last time we won a game Brian [Strait] was in there," coach Jack Capuano said. "He deserves it." This would be some interesting strategy, as Strait is far from anyone's idea of a top defenseman; he possesses little of the offensive ability Lubomir Visnovsky has shown in the past. Either way, Visnovsky shouldn't be out of the lineup for long.

Isles' Visnovsky Bags Goal In Return

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) scored the Isles' lone goal in his return to the lineup Saturday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: He finished the afternoon with three shots over 18:14 of ice time, with three of those minutes coming on the power play, where he tallied his fourth goal of the season. Lubomir Visnovsky will occupy a third-pairing role for the Isles now that he's back healthy again, with most of his scoring chances likely to come on the man advantage.

Isles Activate Visnovsky

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky appears to be ready to go after missing about three weeks with the injury. The veteran rearguard has seen his offense hit the skids over the last few seasons, with an inability to stay healthy undoubtedly factoring into his decline. Even with his career on the downturn, Visnovsky will still likely represent an upgrade over Brian Strait, who he figures to replace in lineup for Saturday's tilt with the Red Wings.

Isles' Visnovsky Could Be Option For Saturday

News: Coach Jack Capuano said Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) could be a lineup option for Saturday's game against the Red Wings, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Lubomir Visnovsky has been practicing since prior to the All-Star break, but wasn't cleared to return to game action when the Islanders resumed play Tuesday against the Rangers, as had been anticipated. It seems the Islanders are simply waiting for the aging rearguard to get closer to 100 percent health, and he may finally be at that point Saturday. The team's practice lines and defensive pairings during Saturday's morning skate should indicate whether or not Visnovsky will return to the lineup later that evening.

Isles' Visnovsky Not Back In Tuesday

News: Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Rangers.
Analysis: It sounded like Lubomir Visnovsky would be ready to play after he resumed practicing with the team last week, but evidently, the Islanders feel more comfortable about giving him some additional time off to recover. If he continues to skate without any setbacks over the next two days, he could draw back in the lineup Thursday versus the Bruins.
