Afanasenkov officially to Russia

News: Dmitry Afanasenkov officially joined Moscow Dynamo of the Russian Elite League, joining former NHLers D Mark Giordano and F Jamie Lundmark.
Analysis: Afanasenkov will not be all that missed from Fantasy leagues. He is only worth a look in the deepest of leagues normally. Drop him from all cheat sheets.

Afanasenkov likely headed to Russia

News: The St. Petersburg Times reports Dmitry Afanasenkov is likely to play in Russia in 2007-08. It appears he is going to sign with Moscow Dynamo of the Russian Elite League.
Analysis: Afanasenkov and the Flyers have very different views on his overall value. He feels he should be a second-line player, but the team added many other viable options and he looks like he will fit in as a third- or fourth-line player if he stays in Philadelphia.

Afanasenkov keeps good times going

News: Flyers LW Dmitry Afanasenkov had a goal, assist and a plus-1 rating in a 4-1 win over the Bruins Saturday. He now has at least one point in three straight games. In the last seven games he has four goals and four assists.
Analysis: Afanasenkov has seen more opportunities to score with Peter Forsberg now in Nashville, but he still should only be used as a stopgap Fantasy option in larger leagues.

News: Flyers LW Dmitry Afanasenkov scored his ninth goal of the season Thursday night. He has three goals in his last six games.
Analysis: Afanasenkov has seen more opportunities to score with Peter Forsberg now in Nashville, but he still should only be used as a stopgap Fantasy option in larger leagues.

News: LW Dmitri Afanasenkov, LW Kyle Calder, RW Sami Kapanen and D Joni Pitkanen each posted an assist and plus-1 rating in Monday's game against the Red Wings.

Flyers claim LW off waivers

News: The Flyers claimed winger Dimitry Afanasenkov off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Afanasenkov had spent his entire career in Tampa after being drafted by the Lightning in 1998. He was part of the 2004 team that won the Stanley Cup.

Afanasenkov sits again

News: LW Dmitry Afanasenkov was a healthy scratch for the third consecutive game, coinciding with the re-acquisition of LW Andre Roy.
Analysis: Afanasenkov had gone 11 consecutive games without a point (his most recent goal came on Nov. 8 against Pittsburgh) before his benching. Cut him loose in all formats.

Afanasenkov to be replaced?

News: Dmitry Afanasenkov is skating on the team's top scoring line at left wing, but his days might be numbered if he doesn't get on track soon. Poor decisions in Saturday's game against the Bruins coupled with the hot start of Ryan Craig might have coach John Tortorella shaking things up before long.
Analysis: Afanasenkov is worth using in most Fantasy leagues, but keep in mind his ice time might be changing drastically if he doesn't turn it around.

Afanasenkov not getting it done

News: Dmitry Afanasenkov was scoreless again on Wednesday at Anaheim and he is mired in a seven-game scoreless stretch.

Afanasenkov remains with Tampa

News: The Lightning re-signed Dmitry Afanasenkov to a one-year contract on Tuesday.
Analysis: Afanasenkov posted six goals and 10 assists in 71 games, but he should be much improved in 2005-06. He is worth a late-round pick on Draft Day when filling out a roster because of his upside.
