Sens, Chiasson Come To Terms

News: Alex Chiasson was awarded a one-year, $1.2 million contract Sunday through the arbitration process, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson was seeking a $2.475 million contract, but after the winger tallied just 11 goals and 26 points in 76 games last season, the arbiter determined that valuation was too high. The Senators' primary get in the trade last summer that sent Jason Spezza to the Stars, Chiasson will be need to step up his productivity in 2015-16 in order to meet the high expectations the Senators have set for him. However, with Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman emerging last season as viable top-six forwards, Chiasson's opportunities to earn increased ice time may be limited.

Sens' Chiasson A Healthy Scratch

News: Alex Chiasson will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's Game 3 against the Canadiens, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson has been in the lineup pretty consistently this season, but it appears Chris Neil will provide a little shakeup Sunday in his place as the Senators look to avoid dropping the first three games of the season.

Sens' Chiasson Nets Game-Winner

News: Alex Chiasson netted the game-winning goal in Monday's 5-2 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson had a few good opportunities to score earlier in the game and finished with four shot attempts on the night, but he didn't break through until the 12:11 mark of the third period. The 24-year-old hasn't shined to the extent the Senators had hoped this season, but he's begun to hit his stride in March, producing a point in each of his last three games.

Sens' Chiasson Helps Out In Win

News: Alex Chiasson recorded a helper and four PIM in Thursday's win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson hasn't been a fixture on the scoresheet of late, and really, not often enough all season. The Senators had hoped he'd emerge as a top-six player after acquiring him in the Jason Spezza deal last summer, but Chiasson has qualified as a major disappointment, generating only 10 goals and 23 points in 60 games. He's still only 24 years old, so while there's time for him to reach his full potential, he'll need to have a big finish to the season in order for fantasy players to feel optimistic about his prospects heading in to 2015-16.

Sens' Chiasson Provides Two Points In Win

News: Alex Chiasson contributed a goal and assist in Saturday's 7-2 thumping of the Oilers.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson was one of eight Senators skaters to record multiple points as the team tied its season high for goals. While it goes down as a productive day for the 24-year-old, his season has still been something of a letdown after the Senators were counting on him to hold down a top-six role. Instead, with only nine goals and 20 points in 48 games, Chiasson seems to have settled in as a third-line skater, and has even served as a healthy scratch on a couple of occasions.

Sens' Chiasson (Lower Body) Set To Return

News: Alex Chiasson (lower body) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jackets, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson missed the Sens' previous three games with the injury, but was able to return to practice Friday. He'll be plugged back in on the team's third line, joining Mike Hoffman and Curtis Lazar. Jean-Gabriel Pageau bows out of the lineup to make room for Chiasson's return.

Sens' Chiasson Won't Play Thursday

News: Alex Chiasson (undisclosed) won't be cleared to play Thursday against the Capitals, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson has apparently resumed skating, but hasn't yet been cleared to take contact. Until that materializes, he likely won't be considered as a lineup option. The Senators used Curtis Lazar in place of Chiasson on their second line during Tuesday's game, and figure to do the same for the match with the Capitals.

Sens' Chiasson On Track To Miss Another

News: Chiassion (undisclosed) is expected to miss Tuesday's game against the Devils.
Analysis: It will be the second straight game that the winger has missed. One of the primary assets acquired by the Senators in the offseason trade that sent Jason Spezza to Dallas, Alex Chiasson has contributed just eight goals and 10 assists over 44 games this season.

Sens' Chiasson Out Saturday

News: Alex Chiasson (undisclosed) will not play in Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson is considered day-to-day, after logging just 11:33 of ice time in Thursday's loss to the Stars. He did manage to score his seventh goal of the season during the game, giving him 17 points through 43 appearances.

Sens' Chiasson Helps Out With Power-Play Assist

News: Alex Chiasson gathered a power-play assist in Tuesday's loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson turned in a productive outing against his former team, but has otherwise struggled to turn in effective performances over the last few weeks. The assist in Tuesday's game gave him his first point since Dec. 15, snapping a stretch of 11 consecutive games without appearing on the score sheet. The Senators expected much more at this point from the winger than the 16 points and minus-10 rating he's provided over 39 games.

Sens' Chiasson Picks Up Goal, Assist Monday

News: Alex Chiasson scored his seventh goal of the year and dished out a helper in Monday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: The marker snapped an eight-game goalless drought for the former Dallas Star, who's now sitting on 15 points, 37 PIM, 37 shots and a minus-6 rating on the year. On pace for 43 points, Alex Chiasson has a good chance at besting his point total of 35 set last season as a rookie.

Sens' Chiasson Pots Sixth Goal

News: Alex Chiasson scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of the third period in Tuesday's shootout victory over the Blues.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson has fired off just one shot over his last two games, but he made the most of it Tuesday night, rocketing a rebound past Blues goalie Jake Allen to send the game to overtime. Despite the recent decline in shot attempts, Chiasson has otherwise been effective in November, potting three goals and gathering two assists in nine contests.

Sens' Chiasson To Return Tuesday

News: Alex Chiasson (undisclosed) will play Tuesday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson sat out both of the Senators' weekend back-to-back tilts while dealing with the undisclosed injury, which was more than likely related to the lower-body ailment that forced him out of action in a game earlier that week. With the full weekend to heal up, Chiasson should be on track to see his usual amount of ice time on the Sens' second line.

Sens' Chiasson (Undisclosed) Out Again Sunday

News: Alex Chiasson (undisclosed) will miss his second straight game Sunday against the Maple Leafs, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson returned Thursday from an upper-body injury, but was held out again Saturday and will now miss Sunday. It is possible he aggravated the injury at some point in Thursday's game.

Sens' Chiasson Won't Play Saturday

News: Alex Chiasson (undisclosed) will not play Saturday against the Jets, Elliotte Friedman of the CBC reports.
Analysis: There's no word on exactly what's ailing Alex Chiasson, but it's most likely the same lower-body injury that kept him out part of last week. Keep an eye out for another update over the next couple days.

Senators' Chiasson To Play Thursday

News: Alex Chiasson (lower body) will play in Thursday's game against the Wild, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson will return to action after sitting out Tuesday's game due to the setback. He will likely be the Senators' second-line right winger Thursday night after lining up there during the Senators' morning skate.

Sens' Chiasson Back At Practice

News: Alex Chiasson (lower body) was back at practice Wednesday, Brent Wallace of TSN Ottawa reports.
Analysis: The Senators made Alex Chiasson a surprise scratch Tuesday against the Red Wings with the injury, which the forward sustained over the weekend in a game against the Bruins. His presence at practice would seem to suggest the ailment is a minor concern, making it possible that he returns to the lineup Thursday versus the Wild.

Sens' Chiasson Out Tuesday

News: Alex Chiasson is dealing with a lower-body injury and will not play Tuesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson sustained the injury when he blocked a shot in Saturday's game against Boston, but it wasn't believed that he was at risk of missing Tuesday's contest. The Senators obviously thought otherwise, prioritizing the health of their young winger rather than risking further aggravation of the injury. Erik Condra or Colin Greening is expected to step into the lineup for Chiasson, who had registered a point in each of his previous five games.

Sens' Chiasson: Three-Game Point Streak

News: Alex Chiasson recorded his third goal of the season in Tuesday's win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Alex Chiasson has proven to be an adept sniper for the Senators on the power play thus far, with all three of his goals on the season coming on the man advantage. The young winger is in the midst of a three-game point streak, but because most of his production this season has come on the power play, he's still sitting on a minus-4 rating.

Sens' Chiasson Registers Second Goal

News: Alex Chiasson scored the game's first goal and attempted five shots in a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Devils on Saturday.
Analysis: Both of Alex Chiasson's goals on the season have come on the Sens' second power-play unit. The Senators have utilized Chiasson primarily as their second-line right wing at even-strength play this season, but he's yet to develop much rapport with Bobby Ryan and Mika Zibanejad.

Sens' Chiasson Pots Goal In Team Debut

News: Alex Chiasson notched a power-play goal in Thursday's season-opening loss to the Predators.
Analysis: The top get for the Senators in the offseason deal that sent Jason Spezza to the Stars, Alex Chiasson slotted in as the second-line right wing in his team debut. Like Chiasson's old squad in Dallas, the Senators have a decent amount of depth at forward as well, which may prevent him from noticing a huge boost in his production during Year 1 in Ottawa. That being said, Chiasson should still see the ice often enough to come close to or surpass last season's 35-point output.
