Isles Shopping Reasoner

News: The Islanders are shopping Marty Reasoner around the NHL, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: The Isles are unlikely to find a trade partner for Marty Reasoner as his best days are far behind him. He is likely to be placed on waivers whenever a roster spot is needed.

Islanders Activate Reasoner From IR

News: Marty Reasoner (hand) was activated from IR on Tuesday, ESPN's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: Marty Reasoner is available for Islanders, but his five assists in 35 games make him unlikely to present any fantasy utility.

Isles' Reasoner Out Until Mid-February

News: Marty Reasoner (thumb) is still about two weeks away from playing, according to Newsday.
Analysis: This is certainly not breaking news as Marty Reasoner is nothing more than a bit player for the Islanders and hopefully the same for your fantasy team.

Reasoner Practicing For Islanders

News: Marty Reasoner (hand) practiced fully Monday, NewYorkIslanders.com reports.
Analysis: Given this, it would appear that Marty Reasoner's presence on the IR was just a way for the Islanders to create some roster maneuverability rather than an indication that Reasoner's health was much of an issue. He seems no worse than day-to-day.

Islanders Place Reasoner On IR

News: Marty Reasoner (hand) was placed on IR on Monday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Marty Reasoner was expected to miss at least all of January and was placed on IR retroactive to Jan. 6, so this move doesn't necessarily reveal anything new about his condition.

Isles' Reasoner Breaks Hand

News: Marty Reasoner broke his hand in the game versus Anaheim on Friday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Marty Reasoner will pay the price for blocking a shot. He's expected to miss at least the rest of January.

Isles' Reasoner Has Yet To Score A Goal In 34 Games

News: Marty Reasoner has yet to score a goal in 34 games as an Islander.
Analysis: He does have five assists. His value is that of a checking forward, but a plus/minus of -16 makes you wonder what he is still doing on the team.

Isles' Reasoner Returns To Practice

News: Marty Reasoner (knee) returned to practice Friday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Marty Reasoner hadn't practiced all that much in his first week with the Isles, but the coaching staff wants to take it easy with the veteran and doesn't feel the need to rush him, preferring to wait until he is completely healthy.

Islanders' Reasoner Day-to-Day With Sore Knee

News: Marty Reasoner sat out Saturday's practice with a sore knee and is day-to-day, the Islanders' official site reports.
Analysis: Marty Reasoner should be a consistent, steadying presence on the Rangers' third or fourth line this season.

Isles Gain Veteran Presence In Reasoner

News: The Islanders have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Reasoner, according to the team's official site.
Analysis: It's not a big splash of a signing for a team that doesn't typically go that route in free agency, but he'll be a nice, steady veteran to have around some of the team's younger players. Reasoner played all 82 games last season with the Panthers, scoring just 17 points. He'll play on the third or fourth line, kill some penalties, and not score a lot.

Panthers' Reason To Hit Open Market Friday

News: Reasoner is set to hit free agency Friday after a season where he notched 32 points in 82 games with the Panthers, including 14 goals.
Analysis: Reasoner rebounded nicely this season after a four-goal campaign with the Thrashers in 2009-10. While there's certainly a possibility that the Panthers will re-sign both Reasoner and Sergei Samsonov (both over the age of 30), GM Dale Tallon may look to bring in younger -- and less expensive -- players in their place.

Panthers' Reasoner Leaves Game Tuesday

News: Reasoner left Tuesday's loss in the first period after taking a puck to the groin, the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Reasoner didn't return and no details about his condition were provided following the game.

Pens Interested in Reasoner

News: The Penguins are interesting in acquiring Reasoner, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: The 12th-year NHL veteran centerman has 13 goals and 27 points in 62 contests, but it's his faceoff ability that attracts Pittsburgh -- he holds a 54.3 percent faceoff win rate, 20th best in the NHL. Reasoner has a $1.2 million salary and a salary-cap hit of $1,150,000 this season. He'll be an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

Panthers' Reasoner Scores Friday

News: Reasoner netted the Panthers' only regulation goal Friday as Florida defeated the Thrashers in a shootout.
Analysis: Radek Dvorak and Chris Higgins were credited with the assist on Reasoner's 12th score of the season.

Two Helpers For Panthers' Reasoner

News: Reasoner picked up two assists Sunday versus the Sharks.
Analysis: Reasoner has a mere 23 points in 55 games, and hasn't done enough in any category to warrant owning.

Panthers' Reasoner Back In The Fold

News: Reasoner, who had recently been dealing with an undisclosed injury, was on the ice for close to 19 minutes in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Reasoner's been hitting the brakes in terms of production lately. He has just one point (a goal) in the past 10 games, making him an unreliable option in fantasy leagues.

Panthers' Reasoner Sits Saturday

News: Reasoner sat out practice Saturday with an undisclosed injury, the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: There isn't any information on the extent of the injury yet, so mark Reasoner as "questionable" to be safe. You will want to verify his playing status Tuesday if you are relying on him in a deeper league.

Florida's Reasoner Gets Two Goals In Loss Friday

News: Reasoner had two goals Friday night, but Florida still lost 5-3 to Carolina.
Analysis: They were his first points in eight games. Reasoner now has eight goals and nine assists on the season.

Reasoner Records 150th Career Assist In Panthers' Win

News: Reasoner notched his eighth assist of the season in Monday's 5-0 win over the host Flyers.
Analysis: Reasoner recorded his 150th career assist and has had a serviceable 12-year in the NHL. With this nifty three-game point streak he is on, Reasoner could challenge his 30-point career best. If that's enough for your league, he could prove to be useful this year.

Panthers' Reasoner Has Two-Goal Effort On Friday

News: Reasoner lit the lamp twice in the first period of Friday's eventual 6-2 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Reasoner propelled the Panthers to their 14th win of the season with one of his potted pucks counting as the game-winning goal. Still, we would need to see much more offense from Reasoner to recommend him in standard fantasy pools.

Reasoner Promoted to Third Line for Panthers

News: Reasoner was promoted to the third line Monday, just a night after scoring two goals against Edmonton, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Reasoner followed his outstanding performance in the season opener with two shots on goal and a minus-1 rating in 14 minutes of play. Coach Pete DeBoer plans to shift his lines in the coming games as the Panthers struggle to put the puck in the back of the net, so Reasoner's role on the third line may not be set in stone.

Reasoner Scores Twice in Panthers' Opener

News: Reasoner scored both of the Panthers goals in their season-opening loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: This despite coming back from a knee injury that had him on the injured list until immediately before the game. His production came in just 10:41 of ice-time, none of it coming on the power play.

Reasoner Tallies Two in Panthers Loss

News: Reasoner netted both of the Panthers' goals in Sunday night's 3-2 loss to Edmonton.
Analysis: The center showed no lingering effects from a knee injury that landed him on the injured list earlier last week. Both goals came in the second period, including a stuff shot off a David Booth rebound. "I was happy to be able to chip in a little bit, but not getting the win sours the whole thing for me," Reasoner said of facing his former team.

Reasoner Ready to Play for Panthers

News: Reasoner (knee) will likely be activated before Sunday's game against Edmonton, the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: "I feel good," Reasoner said. "It was good to take a couple of days off after the exhibition games to get some treatment." He'll likely center Florida's fourth line.

Panthers' Reasoner Skates Friday

News: Reasoner skated Friday, just a day after being placed on the injured list, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete DeBoer acknowledged that the possibility of Reasoner playing Sunday exists, but we think it's probably unlikely. If he does see ice time, however, it would be on the fourth line.
