Wings Land Richards

News: The Red Wings signed Brad Richards to a one-year, $3 million deal Wednesday, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The 35-year-old pivot scored 12 goals and added 25 assists in 76 games in his only season with the Blackhawks. He ended up leaving town with another Stanley Cup ring and will now look to continue his positive momentum with Detroit, where he could settle into a top-six role, especially considering Pavel Datsyuk's current health status.

Hawks Could Retain Richards Next Season

News: Brad Richards has been talking about coming back to the Blackhawks and possibly taking a reduced salary for 2015-16, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Brad Richards made $2 million this past season and is an unrestricted free agent. If he does come back, he probably would have to accept less than $2 million and possibly slightly above the NHL minimum, depending on the new salary cap. Richards' numbers dropped steadily during the regular season, as he only had eight points from Feb. 1 on, finishing with 12 goals and 25 assists in 76 games -- his worst-ever full-season output. The Blackhawks might bring him back for his playoff performance, though, as Richards stepped up his game, collecting three goals and 11 assists in 23 postseason games, including a pair of assists in the Stanley Cup clincher.

Richards Contributes As Hawks Win Cup

News: Brad Richards assisted on both goals in Monday's Stanley Cup-clinching win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Brad Richards didn't have quite as strong a series as in the Western Conference Finals -- in which he maintained a point-per-game pace with seven points -- but he finished his third Stanley Cup Final with a goal and two assists. With just 37 points, the center turned in the lowest output in a full season in his career, and despite a solid postseason, it's unlikely he'll trend much higher as he approaches his age-35 season.

Blackhawks' Richards Records Two Assists in Game 7

News: Brad Richards contributed two assists in Saturday's Game 7 win over the Ducks.
Analysis: Brad Richards was very productive in the Western Conference Final, recording a goal and six assists. The 35-year-old is now 8-0 in career Game 7's and is the first player in NHL history to win eight straight. With 11 points and a plus-3 rating in 17 playoff games, the second-liner is showing he's still got that offensive touch and can be a difference maker. Look for the veteran to make his presence felt in the Stanley Cup Final against Tampa Bay.

Blackhawks' Richards Sets Up Kane In Game 4 Win

News: Brad Richards assisted on Patrick Kane's game-tying power-play goal in Saturday's double-overtime victory over the Ducks in Game 4.
Analysis: Brad Richards has recorded a point in each game of the series thus far, giving the Blackhawks the offensive presence at the second-line center spot that was sorely missing during the past postseason. The 35-year-old submitted a mediocre regular season, but if he can remain productive for just a few more games, he'll be well worth the investment the Blackhawks made.

Blcakhawks' Richards Scores In Game 1 Loss

News: Brad Richards scored his second goal of the playoffs in Sunday's Game 1 loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: A good start to the third round for Brad Richards, who also fired three shots on goal. The 35-year-old now has five points and a plus-5 rating in 11 games this postseason. He's now scored 35 career NHL playoff goals and is continuing to find ways to produce points. He's no longer the elite offensive threat he once was, but Richards still has enough talent to be a difference maker.

Richards Gets Two Points As 'Hawks Lose Game 5

News: Brad Richards factored into both Chicago goals in Game 5 against Nashville on Thursday, opening the scoring in the first period and then assisting on Kris Versteeg's third-period marker in a 5-2 loss.
Analysis: The points were Brad Richards' first of the playoffs, snapping a five-game drought that dated back to the last game of the regular season. He's playing enough minutes that it's not out of line to ask more of him in terms of offensive contributions. Unfortunately, after posting just 37 points in the regular season, Richards doesn't look like he's ever going to make a return to the glory days. He's just a depth contributor now.

Blackhawks' Richards Should Be Back In Wednesday

News: Brad Richards (upper body) is expected to return to the lineup for Wednesday's playoff opener against the Predators, ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers reports.
Analysis: Brad Richards has practiced fully the last three days after missing the Blackhawks' final three regular-season contests, which probably offers enough indication that he's ready to go. In his return to the Blackhawks' second line, Richards will be rejoined by Patrick Kane, who was cleared to play Thursday after missing about seven weeks due to a broken collarbone. Richards' production even when playing next to Kane earlier in the year was rather disappointing, so postseason expectations for the veteran center should probably still be tempered.

Blackhawks' Richards Returns To Practice

News: Brad Richards (upper body) returned to practice Monday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: The upper-body injury ended up costing Brad Richards the final three games of the regular season, ending a disappointing campaign for the veteran center. While the ailment doesn't look as though it will jeopardize his availability Thursday for Game 1 of the Blackhawks' first-round series against the Predators, Richards won't represent the attractive target in playoff pools that his brand name would suggest. Despite playing alongside some of the best talent of his career, Richards recorded just 12 goals and 25 assists in 76 games this year.

Hawks' Richards To Miss Next Three Games

News: Brad Richards will miss the Blackhawks' final three regular-season games with an upper-body injury, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Coach Joel Quenneville said that Brad Richards should be okay for the playoffs, but his regular season is done, with the veteran pivot having recorded 12 goals and 37 points in 76 games. With Richards sidelined, Kyle Baun is set to make his NHL debut Tuesday against the Wild.

Hawks' Richards Assists In Win

News: Brad Richards assisted on Patrick Sharp's first-period goal in Friday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: It's just the third point in last 10 games for Brad Richards, who hasn't provided the impact the Blackhawks had hoped when they signed him to a one-year deal last summer. He's collected only 12 goals and 37 points over 75 games, putting him on track to finish with his lowest career production in a non-lockout year.

Hawks' Richards Scores In Win

News: Brad Richards recorded the game-winning goal in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Brad Richards found the back of the net midway through the third period against his old team, and that was all that 'Hawks goalie Scott Darling would need to seal up the victory. His production had been fading fast for about a month, but Richards has been much more effective since Chicago acquired Antoine Vermette at the trade deadline. The veteran pivot now has three points in his last four games, as his move to the third line has allowed him to feast against opponents' third pairings.

Hawks' Richards Ends Drought, Reaches Milestone

News: Brad Richards registered his 900th career point while also breaking a goal drought with a third-period game-winner against Arizona on Thursday.
Analysis: Brad Richards had not scored a goal since January 11, one of the longest power shortages in his long career. Unless he goes on a tear in the final 30 days of the season, Richards will have one of his worst goal productions. With Thursday's goal, he has 10 on the season after registering 20 goals last season.

Points Drying Up For Hawks' Richards

News: Brad Richards tallied an assist in Tuesday's shootout win over the Panthers, marking just his third point in the month of February.
Analysis: Brought in during the offseason to solidify the second-line center spot for the Blackhawks, Brad Richards hasn't taken as well to the role as the team anticipated. He's endured multiple lengthy scoring dry spells and has contributed nine goals and 23 assists in 58 games, which would put him on track to fall below the 50-point mark for just the second full season of his career. With linemate Patrick Kane (upper body) likely to miss the rest of the season, Richards' chances of picking up his scoring production don't figure to be strong.

Hawks' Richards Tallies Assist In Win

News: Brad Richards collected an assist in Friday's 2-1 overtime win over the Jets.
Analysis: Month-to-month inconsistency has marred Brad Richards' season thus far, as he's delivered double-digit point totals in both November and January but registered only seven points combined in October and December. Friday's outing will allow him to get off to a good start in February, but it's tough to trust him outside of mid-sized or deeper leagues at this juncture.

Hawks' Richards Chips In Two Helpers

News: Brad Richards contributed two assists and a plus-2 rating to the cause in Tuesday's 6-1 rout of Arizona.
Analysis: He'd gone minus-3 without a point over the last two games, so this is a nice bounce back for Brad Richards, whose scoring has been highly inconsistent lately. It's been multi-point effort or bust for him over the last nine games, as he's been held off the scoresheet five times, but has a combined nine points in the other four contests.

Hawks' Richards Tallies Two Points

News: Brad Richards scored and added an assist in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Brad Richards hasn't had his best season, but he's been getting on the scoresheet more consistently of late as he's picked up eight points in his last seven games. The 34-year-old is on pace for right around 50 points, so he represents a good option in deeper formats.

Richards Notches Three Assists For 'Hawks

News: Brad Richards handed out a trio of helpers in Thursday's win over the Wild -- one on a power play, one at even strength and one on an empty-netter.
Analysis: A nice effort by Brad Richards, who's picked up five points in the last three games after netting just a single point in the prior nine. Offense has come in fits and starts for the grizzled vet, whose fantasy utility is best confined to deeper formats.

Hawks' Richards Scores Eighth Goal

News: Brad Richards scored his eighth goal of the season, had an assist, and fired four shots on goal in Sunday's win over Dallas.
Analysis: Brad Richards now has 21 points in 36 games, to go with an impressive plus-10 rating. The second-line center has two goals in three games since returning from an upper-body injury, recording 10 shots on goal in that span. The former Ranger should land in the 45-50 point range this season, making him a dependable option in deeper formats.

Hawks' Richards Gets Goal In Return

News: Brad Richards (upper body) nabbed a goal in his return to the lineup Monday versus the Predators.
Analysis: Brad Richards had missed the previous three games with the injury, but came through for the Blackhawks on Monday, getting the team on the board to overcome a 3-0 deficit. In spite of his successes in his return to the lineup, Richards will continue to notice a significant downgrade in ice time with the Blackhawks compared to what he noticed a year earlier. Don't expect the production he provides to match his brand name.

Hawks' Richards (Upper Body) Will Play Monday

News: Brad Richards (upper body) will play Monday against the Predators, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Brad Richards participated in the Blackhawks' practice Sunday, skating on the second line with Kris Versteeg and Patrick Kane. Over 33 games this season, Richards has tallied six goals and 12 assists with a plus-9 rating. It will be interesting to see what the Blackhawks decide to do with the lines Monday when Richards returns, but Patrick Sharp was not among the top six forwards Sunday, making him the likely candidate for demotion.

Chicago's Richards To Sit Again Saturday

News: Brad Richards (upper body) will not play Saturday against the Avalanche, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Brad Richards didn't travel with the team to Colorado, but should start skating on his own back in Chicago at some point over the weekend. Coach Joel Quenneville seemed optimistic that Richards -- who will miss his third straight game -- would be available for Monday's match with Nashville, but he'll first need to partake with the team at morning skate before that materializes.

Hawks' Richards Improving, Will Miss Tuesday

News: Brad Richards (upper body) is improving and skated in the morning, but will miss Tuesday night's game against the Jets.
Analysis: Brad Richards also missed Sunday's victory over the Maple Leafs, but because he was at least able to resume skating Tuesday, it appears that he should be ready to go immediately out of the Christmas break. The center has six goals and 12 assists in 32 games, trailing the pace that led him to an already-disappointing 20 goals and 31 assists in 82 games with the Rangers last season.

Hawks' Richards (Upper Body) To Miss Sunday Night

News: Brad Richards will not be in the lineup on Sunday night against Toronto with an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: There is no word when Brad Richards suffered the injury as it was not apparent in Saturday night's loss to Columbus. Richards has six goals and 12 assists in 32 games and is behind last season's totals of 20 goals and 31 assists in 82 games with the Rangers.

Hawks' Richards Has Points In Three Straight

News: Brad Richards notched an assist Wednesday night against the Blues, stretching his point streak to three games, in which he's accumulated three goals and two assists.
Analysis: After taking almost the first two months to get adjusted to his new team in Chicago, Brad Richards appears to have settled in on the second line with Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg. Even with the slow start, Richards could match his numbers with the Rangers last year -- 20 goals and 31 assists in 82 games.
