Blackhawks Sign Richards To One-Year Deal

News: Brad Richards signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Blackhawks on Tuesday, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: The 34-year-old Brad Richards saw his numbers fall off a cliff with the Rangers last season, as the former point-per-game scorer notched just 51 in 82 contests, eventually falling outside a top-six role toward the end of the season. Though clearly on the downside of his career, he'll join a stacked Blackhawks forward corps that should provide him with a wealth of scoring opportunities. However, he'll more than likely have to content with a dropoff in minutes with his new team, as the Blackhawks intend to work Marcus Kruger and promising youngster Teuvo Teravainen into their center mix.

Isles' Have Been In Touch With Richards

News: The Islanders have been in touch with Brad Richards, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Although Brad Richards would seem to be a declining player, the Isles may be checking in to see if he would come a little cheaper than normal after being bought out by the Rangers. Richards' biggest value to the team could be as a veteran presence should he decide he'd rather not relocate this offseason.

Rangers Buy Out Richards

News: Brad Richards' contract has been bought out by the Rangers, ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Rangers will buy out the six remaining years on the nine-year, $60 million deal Brad Richards signed in 2011. Under the current CBA, teams are given two special buyout provisions that do not count toward the salary cap, and Richards accounts for the Rangers' second buyout after the team used one on defenseman Wade Redden in 2013. The 34-year-old Richards will hit free agency after recording 51 points and playing in all 82 games this season.

Rangers' Richards Declines to Address Media

News: Brad Richards did not officially address the media on the team breakup day, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: Brad Richards is by far the team's biggest offseason business. With the Rangers likely to buy out the six years remaining on his $60 million contract and the smell of the team's Stanley Cup finals failure in the air, Richards naturally has a lot on his mind.

Richards Finds Scoresheet In Rangers' Loss

News: Brad Richards notched a power-play assist on Chris Kreider's second-period goal in Friday's season-ending Game 5 loss to the Kings, his first point in six games this postseason and just his third assist since the end of the first round.
Analysis: There has been much discussion as to whether Brad Richards will be an amnesty buyout candidate in the coming weeks, but the veteran playmaker of the Rangers didn't deliver much from his role as the team's point man on their top power-play unit, notching a modest six points in 18 games following a six-points-in seven-games effort against Philadelphia in the first round. Richards is in the twilight of his career, but he did earn the series-clinching goal against Pittsburgh in the second round despite finishing the playoffs with no goals and two assists in the final 10 games. He saw his ice time cut on occasion and will be a hot topic in the coming weeks.

Rangers' Richards Sees Reduced Role In Game 4

News: Brad Richards saw his ice time diminish to 13:20 in Wednesday's Game 4 victory over the Kings.
Analysis: With head coach Alain Vigneault looking to shake things up and stave off elimination, Brad Richards spent most of a quiet evening centering the fourth line. Although Moore (eight points) and Richards (11 points) have made comparable offensive contributions in the playoffs, including two game-winning goals each, Moore has been much more reliable in the face-off circle and generally more visible on the ice this postseason. With an amnesty buyout possibly in Richards' future, there's no telling how a change like this could impact his long-term fantasy value.

Rangers' Richards Registers Game-Winning Assist

News: Brad Richards registered an assist in Sunday's 3-2 overtime defeat of Montreal.
Analysis: Although it was not the primary assist, the helper is certainly one of the biggest assists of the postseason, coming on Martin St. Louis' overtime game-winning goal. The assist snaps a modest two-game drought and gives Brad Richards 11 total points in 18 playoff games this season.

Rangers' Richards Quietly Having Solid Post Season

News: Brad Richards found the back of the net in a 7-2 dismantling of Montreal in Game 1 on Saturday.
Analysis: Despite a three-game lull in which the veteran center did not register a point against Pittsburgh, Brad Richards has quietly put together a nice post season, having tallied 10 points (five goals) in 15 playoff games.

Rangers' Richards Pots Game 7 Winner

News: Brad Richards' second-period power-play goal held up as the game-winner Tuesday, sending the Rangers to a seven-game series win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Brad Richards had had a cold series, with just two points in the first six games, but he came through big-time on the Rangers' only full-length power play of this game, giving New York a 2-1 lead just three minutes and change after Pittsburgh's Jussi Jokinen had scored the tying goal. He now has a total of nine points in 14 games this postseason.

Rangers' Richards Returning To Form

News: Brad Richards had a second period goal in a Game 1 overtime defeat of Pittsburgh on Friday.
Analysis: After a tumultuous campaign last year, the 34-year-old center has returned to a near point-per-game pace since the playoffs began. Brad Richards is now tied with nine other talented folks with seven points for eighth in league-scoring in the post season.

Rangers' Richards Collects Second Playoff Goal

News: Brad Richards collected his second goal of the post season in 4-2 Game 5 win over Philadelphia on Sunday.
Analysis: Brad Richards' game log will tell you he's on-again, off-again in this series, as is the team. Through five post season games thus far, the team's number two center is a plus-2 with two goals, three assists and 23 shots on goal.

Rangers' Richards Produces In Game 1

News: Brad Richards scored a power-play goal and chipped in two assists in Thursday's Game 1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Playoff poolers have to be happy about that, although Brad Richards probably wasn't the trendiest pick after recording just a single point in 10 playoff games for the Rangers last year. It'll be huge for the Blueshirts if he can keep this up as the playoffs continue.

Rangers' Richards Hits 20 Goals

News: Brad Richards scored a pair of power-play goals in Tuesday's victory over Carolina, giving him 20 on the season.
Analysis: Brad Richards has now reached 20 goals for the 10th time since entering the league in 2000-01. He also cleared 50 points with this fine night, the 11th time that's happened in his career. Nonetheless, this has been by far the worst full season of his career.

Rangers' Richards Tallies Goal, Assist Friday

News: Brad Richards scored his 18th goal of the season and assisted on another during the Rangers' 4-3 loss to Calgary on Friday.
Analysis: Brad Richards recently endured a rough stretch where he had just one assist over an eight-game stretch. Since then, he's tallied two goals, one assist and a plus-5 rating over a three-game span. With 18 goals and 31 assists over 75 games this season, Richards is an important cog in the machine as the Rangers look to hold onto their fifth-seed for the playoffs with just seven games to go.

Rangers' Richards: 'No Medical Issues'

News: After taking a hard slash in Friday's win over Carolina, Brad Richards is not expected to miss any action, reports Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record.
Analysis: With the team enjoying an off-day, vague terminology should be expected. While there's always a slight possibility of his hand tightening up before their tilt against Detroit on Sunday, it sounds like you can count on the veteran center to play.

Rangers' Richards Headed For X-Rays On Finger

News: Brad Richards (finger) will have x-rays taken to determine the severity of his injury suffered Friday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Brad Richards took a slash on the left hand from Carolina's Eric Staal, but the injury wasn't enough to keep him from staying in the game. He did record one assist, but that was before the incident. Gross cites that Richards will be sore but that it shouldn't affect his ability to play. Still, consider him day-to-day for now though until test results come back.

Rangers' Richards To Play Alongside St. Louis

News: Brad Richards and linemate Carl Hagelin will line up with Martin St. Louis in Wednesday's game against Toronto, reports Steve Zipay of Newsday.
Analysis: It's not a huge surprise since the duo won a Stanley Cup together for Tampa Bay in the 2003-04 season. While Brad Richards is a minus-4 in three games since the Olympic break, he's registered a goal and an assist in his last two contests. Though there's no guarantee the combination sticks, with speedy wingers on either side of the veteran center, the sky is the limit in the final six weeks of the season.

Fantasy-Friendly Line For Rangers' Richards

News: Brad Richards scored a goal, assisted on another and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-1 romp over Colorado.
Analysis: He's now scored goals in consecutive games -- and gone a combined plus-5 -- following a three-game slump. If Brad Richards has been anything this year, it's reliably streaky -- he's had four point streaks of three games or longer, and four pointless streaks of three games or longer.

Richards Lone Man In For Rangers Tuesday

News: Brad Richards scored the Rangers' lone goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Tampa, pushing his point streak to six games.
Analysis: After enduring a cold spell for much of December and the first game of the new year, Brad Richards has suddenly turned things on, with eight points over the course of the last six games. He'd managed all of two points in the nine contests preceding this streak, but that's pretty much Richards' M.O. at this point in his career. His fantasy owners are going to have to ride out the cold spells in anticipation of the hot streaks.

Rangers' Richards Riding Small Streak

News: Brad Richards grabbed two assists in the Rangers' 3-2 win over Dallas on Friday, giving him at least a point in each of the last four games.
Analysis: Brad Richards has six points over the last four contests and has been heating up the last month. His days of being an elite scorer have been over for a few years now, but he's still a talented player who seems to be meshing well with Rick Nash finally.

Rangers' Richards Picks Up Goal, Assist

News: Brad Richards had his 11th goal and 20th assist of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Brad Richards potted a slick feed from Ryan Callahan to give the Rangers an early lead to extend his scoring streak to three games. The goal also ties him with Carl Hagelin, Chris Kreider, and Mats Zuccarello for a share of the team lead.

Richards Nets Goal In Rangers' Win

News: Brad Richards registered a late goal in Saturday's 7-1 victory over Toronto.
Analysis: Though the goal meant very little to the game's outcome, it snaps a 12-game scoreless drought for the 33-year-old forward. The veteran center, who has just two points in his last eight contests, spent most of his ice time (16:10) with Carl Hagelin and Ryan Callahan. Brad Richards is a minus-7 with 10 goals and 18 assists in 43 games played.

Rangers' Richards Slumping

News: Brad Richards, who has 26 points (nine goals) in 38 games this season, heads into the break on a three-game point-scoring drought.
Analysis: After entering December on a six-game (three goals, four assists) point streak, Brad Richards has just three points in his last eight games. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise with the veteran center logging the most minutes on the second line (without Rick Nash) with forwards Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard over the past 10 games. The 33-year-old's monthly career numbers have always suggested more productive starts and ends to the regular season, so feel free to endure his streakiness or dangle as trade bait.

Richards Extends Point Streak In Rangers' Loss

News: Brad Richards collected a helper in Monday's 5-2 loss to Winnipeg.
Analysis: After enduring a five game point-scoring drought in late-November, Brad Richards owners have to be pleased with his goal and three assists over the last four games. Although his total of just five shots and minus-2 rating over that four-game span leave something to be desired, he's likely to improve in those areas against Thursday's opponent, the Sabres.

Rangers' Richards Tallies Two Points

News: Brad Richards scored a goal and added an assist Sunday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Brad Richards is enjoying a nice comeback season so far. He's scored 15 points in 17 games this season. He has six points in his last five games, and he is a plus-6 in those games as well.
