Blackhawks' McLean Joins Team Canada For Spengler Cup

News: The Blackhawks have reassigned Brett McLean to Team Canada for the Spengler Cup according to the team's official site.
Analysis: The veteran center has been with Rockford of the AHL this season, but was given the opportunity to play for Team Canada in Switzerland for the week. He will return after the Spengler Cup finals and will be on the short list of players to receive a call-up in case of injury.

Blackhawks Assign McLean To Rockford

News: Brett McLean cleared waivers on Tuesday and the Blackhawks assigned him to Rockford of the AHL.
Analysis: The veteran center could be called upon during the season if the Blackhawks are hit with some injuries for veteran leadership. Before signing a contract in the summer with the Blackhawks, he had skated for Bern of the Swiss-A hockey league from 2009-11.

Blackhawks Place McLean On Waivers

News: Brett McLean was placed on waivers Monday by the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The veteran center could be resigned by the Blackhawks and sent to Rockford of the AHL, but he will probably find another landing spot. Before signing a contract in the summer, he had skated for Bern of the Swiss-A hockey league from 2009-11.

Chicago Brings McLean Back To Windy City

News: The Blackhawks have agreed to terms with McLean on a one-year contract, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: In McLean, Chicago has landed a veteran center who has played for a number of different hockey leagues in his career. From 2009-11, he played for Bern of the Swiss-A hockey league, totaling 60 points (23 G, 37 A) in 84 games between those two seasons. But he isn't a new face to long-time Chicago fans, as McLean played a pair of games with the club in 2002-03, and made 76 more appearances with the Blackhawks in 2003-04, when he recorded a 31-point campaign.

Lightning giving McLean a shot

News: The Lightning have invited forward Brett McLean to training camp on a tryout basis.
Analysis: McLean has spent the last few seasons with the Panthers, but really fell into a rut in 2008-09, his first and only year with coach Peter DeBoer. He never found his rhythm on the fourth line and managed a career-low 19 points. McLean could make the Lightning as a lower-line addition, but even if that happens, he is going to have minimal Fantasy appeal.

McLean has three goals in seven games

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers C Brett McLean scored his third goal in the past seven games Tuesday against the Flyers. He had four goals in his first 71 appearances.
Analysis: McLean hasn't done much offensively in his first season under coach Peter DeBoer and his 30-point potential is a flash in the past. McLean has little to no Fantasy appeal in what is turning out to be his worst season as a pro.

News: Panthers C Brett McLean scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Wednesday's game against the Sabres. McLean opened the scoring 9:31 into the game with a tip-in past Mikael Tellqvist. It was his fifth goal. He has three points in his last three games.
Analysis: McLean hasn't done much offensively in his first season under coach Peter DeBoer and his 30-point potential is a flash in the past. McLean has little to no Fantasy appeal in what is turning out to be his worst season as a pro.

News: Panthers C Brett McLean failed to record a point and finished at even in 9:57 of ice time Monday against the Hurricanes. He has no goals and three assists in 11 March games.
Analysis: McLean hasn't done much offensively in his first season under coach Peter DeBoer and his 30-point potential is a flash in the past. McLean has little to no Fantasy appeal in what is turning out to be his worst season as a pro.

McLean finds scoring touch

News: Panthers LW Brett McLean scored a goal during Sunday's loss to the Canadiens. He now has two goals and one assist in his last four games and has scored three times in eight outings. He had no goals in his first 31 games.
Analysis: McLean has been able to contribute a bit of offense as of late despite being a fourth-line player. McLean has had some good offensive seasons in his career, but has limited Fantasy appeal at this time.

McLean plays less than 10 minutes

News: Panthers C Brett McLean didn't have a point in 9:33 of ice time Monday against the Canadiens. He finished at even while not taking a shot on net. McLean has just one assist in five games.
Analysis: McLean has seen some time this season as a top-six forward, but hasn't done much. That's probably the reason why he was limited to less than 10 minutes Monday. McLean has had some good offensive seasons in his career, but has limited Fantasy appeal at this time.

McLean has third straight multi-pointer

News: Panthers C Brett McLean recorded a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Islanders to put together his third straight two-point game.
Analysis: McLean has been a solid Fantasy contributor since the start of February with 18 points in his last 20 games. Unfortunately, his nice performance has gone pretty much unnoticed while playing with the inconsistent Panthers. He has some minimal value in deeper formats, but this late-season surge means his value should rise for next year.

McLean scores twice on power play

News: Brett McLean hit for two power-play goals on Saturday and the Florida Panthers beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2 to match a season-high fourth straight win. Both of McLean's goals bounced in off Atlanta players.
Analysis: McLean has scored in successive games taking his season total to 13 goals. He also collected 14 assists. McLean is worth a flier in deeper leagues but don't rely too much on him. He is a low-end Fantasy option.

McLean scorer shorthanded goal

News: Brett McLean scored 12:18 into the second period to give Florida a 2-0 lead over the Penguins who in the end rallied for a 3-2 win. While on the power play, a pass from Pittsburgh's Jeff Taffe was not handled properly by Darryl Sydor. McLean stole the puck at his own blue line and had a breakaway -- Sydor was signaled to be called for hooking -- and beat Ty Conklin stick side for the second short-handed goal of his career.
Analysis: McLean's goal was the Panthers' third while short-handed this season. McLean has now picked up points in five of the last six games and has improved his productiun since Richard Zednik went out with his neck injury. McLean is worth a flier in deeper leagues as a result, but don't get too attached. His upside is not very high at all.

McLean finds back of the net

News: Panthers C Brett McLean scored a goal in Saturday's loss at Carolina, his first in four games.
Analysis: McLean has had a point in four of his last six games and is becoming slightly more productive with the absence of Richard Zednik. He's worth a flier in deeper leagues as a result, but don't get too attached. His upside is not very high at all.

McLean has six assists in four games

News: Panthers C Brett McLean tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 during Sunday's game against the Sabres. He extended his points streak to four games. He has two goals and six assists in that span.
Analysis: One of the hottest lines in the NHL right now is the Panthers' top unit of McLean, Olli Jokinen and Richard Zednik, who suffered an unfortunate incident when a skate cut his neck Sunday. Zednik is in stable condition, but is expected to make a full recovery. McLean has played some of the best hockey of his career recently, but is still a low-end Fantasy option.

McLean with five point night

News: Brett McLean took advantage of a big night by the Florida Panthers and came up with a big gaem himself. McLean capped the scoring for the Panthers with his sixth goal for a 8-0 win at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. But what also was noticeable were the four assists he picked up before scoring the goal.
Analysis: McLean has six goals and 10 assists for the season, obviously not impressive numbers. "The coaches really stressed to keep going and not let them back into the game," McLean said. "We've had a couple games this year where we have had leads in the second and third periods and we have let teams creep back in, so we really wanted to keep our foot on the gas pedal and we obviously did that." The Panthers are mixing up their lines and McLean is skating with the likes of Olli Jokinen and Richard Zednik, but still remains a low-end Fantasy flier for the time being.

McLean nets first point in seven games

News: Panthers C Brett McLean tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Thursday's game against the Thrashers. It was his fourth assist of the season and first point in seven games.
Analysis: McLean missed a month from mid-November to mid-December with a broken right hand, but has managed to stay in the lineup since. He started off well with two goals and two assists in five games, but has gone a little cold since. The Panthers are mixing up their lines and McLean is skating with the likes of Olli Jokinen and Richard Zednik, but still remains a low-end Fantasy flier.

McLean returns to lineup Sunday

News: Florida C Brett McLean returned to the lineup Sunday against the Blackhawks after missing 15 games with a broken right hand. He made an impact by recording an assist in 13:13 of ice time. He also spent two minutes in the penalty box for hooking.
Analysis: It's good to see McLean already mix it up in his first game back, but let's not jump ahead of ourselves. He has just three points in 18 games this season. He is merely a low-end Fantasy reserve at this time.

McLean all smiles after workout

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers C Brett McLean was all smiles after working out at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday. He said his broken hand is healed and he's ready to play. McLean has been out since breaking his right hand last month. It's possible he could play Tuesday in Montreal. "Everything feels good right now," he said. "I want to get out there and play as soon as a I can."
Analysis: McLean has posted a goal and an assist in 17 games this season. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy. Consider him an injury-risk start for Fantasy Week 12 (Dec. 17-23).

Brett McLean doubtful

News: The Miami Herald notes that David Booth (bruised knee) is out for Thursday's game at St. Louis and he likely won't even travel with the team. He might fly to Detroit to play against the Red Wings Saturday. Anthony Stewart was called up from Rochester of the AHL to play in his place. Brett McLean (hand) is doubtful for the game also, but he made the trip.
Analysis: McLean has posted a goal and an assist in 17 games this season. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy. Continue to keep him out of active Fantasy lineups.

McLean has cast removed

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers C Brett McLean (broken hand) had his cast removed, but says he has no timeline on a return. "It just needs to get its strength back and I have no idea how long that will take," McLean said. "Getting the cast off means I'm one step closer to playing and that's big for me. Hopefully, this won't take much longer."
Analysis: McLean has posted a goal and an assist in 17 games this season. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy. Continue to keep him out of active Fantasy lineups.

News: C Brett McLean (broken hand) sat out Monday's game against Carolina.
Analysis: McLean has posted a goal and an assist in 17 games this season. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy. He will likely be sidelined for a few weeks, but continue to track his progress.

C McLean gets on the board

News: Brett McLean and Nathan Horton scored second-period goals in Thursday's regular season opener loss at N.Y. Rangers. Each player turned in an even rating in the loss.
Analysis: Despite the goal, McLean is not a recommended Fantasy option except in the deepest of leagues. McLean scored 15 goals last season with Colorado, all at even strength, making him the only NHL player with that many without one on the power play or shorthanded.
