Flyers Ink Schultz To Contract

News: Nick Schultz signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Flyers on Wednesday.
Analysis: Nick Schultz will give the Flyers another option on the third defensive pairing, but he's unlikely to see any major fantasy relevance given the way his scoring numbers have tailed off in recent years. He compiled a mere five points in 69 games in 2013-14, finishing with a minus-13 rating while splitting time between the Oilers and Blue Jackets.

Jackets' Schultz Likely To Test Market

News: The Blue Jackets haven't had any contract discussions with Nick Schultz, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The unrestricted free agent played just nine games with Columbus after coming over from Edmonton at the trade deadline, managing just one assist and a minus-2 rating. After this year's 69-game total of five points (all assists) and a minus-13 rating, Nick Schultz could have difficulty securing a job with an NHL team this offseason.

Oilers Deal N. Schultz To Blue Jackets

News: Nick Schultz was traded to the Blue Jackets for a fifth-round draft pick on Wednesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: In dealing Nick Schultz, the Oilers open up a spot for top prospect Oscar Klefbom to join the parent club. The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, get a quality depth defenseman to plug into the lineup while Ryan Murray (lower body) and Fedor Tyutin (ankle) nurse injuries. Schultz had only four points in 60 games with the Oilers, but he did supplied 64 hits and 120 blocks on the defensive end.

Oilers' N. Schultz Blocking Shots, But Little Else

News: Nick Schultz has a team-leading 113 blocks over 57 games this season.
Analysis: Aside from that, Nick Schultz has otherwise been a non-factor in the fantasy game, as he has just four points on the campaign. He'll continue to see a fair amount of playing time for the Oilers, but almost all of his utility for the team comes in the work he does in front of his own net.

Oilers' Schultz Struggling To Score

News: Nick Schultz has a lone assist and a minus-1 in 18 games this season for the Oilers.
Analysis: Surprisingly, he's one of the few Oilers whose plus-minus doesn't remain in terrible shape in the wake of the club's league-worst -1.50 goals per game differential. However, until he starts producing more offensively than the one point and eight shots on goal he's mustered thus far, he's probably safe to ignore in most fantasy leagues.

Wild Deal Schultz To Oilers

News: Nick Schultz has been traded to the Oilers in exchange for Tom Gilbert, according to the Oilers' Twitter feed.
Analysis: Nick Schultz will be a nice addition to the Oilers' blueline, but has brought underwhelming fantasy numbers throughout his career. He had just three points in 62 games this season for the Wild.

Wild's Schultz Back From Concussion

News: Nick Schultz was on the ice for 20:23 in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis. It was his preseason debut with the Wild after suffering a concussion in April.
Analysis: He deal with post-concussion symptoms this summer, so his health will be something to monitor early in the season.

News: Schultz (undisclosed) won't play Saturday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.

Schultz Questionable For Minnesota

News: Schultz (undisclosed) is questionable for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Minneapolis Star Tribune writer Michael Russo reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what his deal is, but his presence or absence shouldn't affect many fantasy matchups either way.

Minnesota's Schultz Back In The Fold

News: Schultz earned 22:51 of ice time against Chicago in his return from a head injury Tuesday.

Wild's Schultz Will Return Tuesday In Chicago

News: Schultz (head) will play Tuesday against the Blackhawks, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Wild's Schultz Expects To Play Tuesday

News: Schultz (head) expects to play Tuesday against Chicago, the Wild's official site reports.
Analysis: It's the team's final game before the All-Star break, however, so you have to think there's still a slim chance he gets scratched in the event of a setback before the opening faceoff.

Wild's Schultz Skates Sunday

News: Schultz (head) skated with the team Sunday and hopes to play Tuesday in Chicago, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild haven't called anyone up from the minors yet, so team is still holding out hope that Schultz can play. If not, he should return after the All-Star break.

Wild's Schultz Suffers Head Injury

News: Schultz suffered a head injury in Saturday's loss to San Jose, according to the Wild's Official Twitter Feed.
Analysis: The Wild only have one game before the All-Star break -- Tuesday at Chicago -- but coach Todd Richards thinks his blueliner might not be ready for that one. Obviously, a concussion is the first fear here.

Minnesota's Schultz Set To Return

News: Schultz (concussion) will return to the Minnesota lineup against Columbus on Monday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: How much ice time Schultz (who has missed four games) will see Monday will depend on how he feels as the game progresses.

Wild's Schultz Healthy, But Will Not Play Sunday

Wild's Schultz Out With Head Injury

News: Schultz (head) missed Tuesday's practice and probably won't play again until after Christmas, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: He'll miss Thursday's game at a minimum, but he could also miss games on Dec. 26 and Dec. 27. The Wild are not calling his head injury a concussion and he won't be evaluated until after Christmas.

Wild's Schultz Doubtful For Monday

News: Schultz (upper body) is doubtful to play against Calgary on Monday, Minneapolis Star Tribune writer Michael Russo reports.
Analysis: It looks like he will remain day-to-day heading past Monday's game.

Wild's Schultz Plays Despite Losing Teeth

News: Schultz was on the ice for over 20 minutes in Thursday's loss to Atlanta despite getting stitches and losing two teeth in last Saturday's game after blocking a shot with his face.
Analysis: It will take more than losing a few teeth to keep the defensive stalwart off the ice.

Wild's Schultz Leaves Game Saturday

News: Schultz left Saturday's game against Columbus in the third period after taking a puck to his face, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Coach Todd Richards praised Schultz for his defense. "He can bring some certain qualities to us offensively as far as creating, but when he's focused on defending and winning battles, with his size, his strength and his speed, there aren't too many guys that can match that." Schultz did not return to the game, so double check his status for Thursday's game against the Thrashers.

Fewer Shots For Wild's Schultz

News: After trying to make his defensemen attack more last season, head coach Todd Richards will have Schultz back to focusing almost exclusively on defense, the Minneapolis Star Tribune. reports.
Analysis: Schultz had a career-high 20 points last season and nearly doubled his shots on goal (83), but that's not a viable output for most fantasy leagues. Expect even less this year.

Schultz reaches 20 points for 1st time

News: Wild D Nick Schultz assisted twice in Sunday's OT loss to the Canucks, propelling him to 20 points for the first time in his eight-year career.
Analysis: Schultz has obviously had a solid campaign by his standards, but a 20-point defenseman who behaves himself isn't much use outside of the deepest of leagues.

Schultz has four assists in last five

News: Wild D Nick Schultz tallied an assist and finished at even in 25:33 of ice time on Monday against the Penguins. He has four assists in his last five games.
Analysis: When Todd Richards arrived in the offseason, he made it a point to approach Schultz and told him to work on his offensive game since Minnesota would be transitioning to an up-tempo style. Unfortunately, Schultz is only starting to come around on offense. And yet his numbers still aren't that impressive. He is most useful in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.
