Flyers Sign Schultz To Two-Year Extension

News: The Flyers have signed Nick Schultz to a two-year, $4.5 million contract extension Wednesday, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nick Schultz's offensive numbers (13 points in 55 games) don't jump off the page, but the Flyers brass has been very impressed with his work in front of the team's goalies this season. With the blue line still representing a weakness for the organization, the Flyers jumped at the chance to extend a reliable defenseman like Schultz to an affordable contract.

Flyers' Schultz Finds Twine In Loss

News: Nick Schultz scored his second goal of the season in Thursday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Nick Schultz isn't a big offensive contributor, but he has scored twice in his last three games. The 32-year-old does average 19:03 of ice time, but he's only got 12 points on the season, making him valuable in only the deepest of leagues. With a plus-7 rating and solid defensive play, Schultz is way more valuable to the Flyers than he is to fantasy owners.

Flyers' Schultz Scores First Goal Since 2013

News: Nick Schultz scored his first goal since the 2012-13 season Thursday, and it held up as the game-winner against Winnipeg.
Analysis: That last tally came on April 8, 2013, so Nick Schultz was coming up on a two-year goal-scoring slump. Now he can try for the next step: scoring more than one goal in a season for the first time since 2010-11.

Flyers' Schultz Set To Play Tuesday

News: Nick Schultz (upper body) appears set to play Tuesday against the Coyotes, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Nick Schultz was sidelined for the Flyers' final game prior to the All-Star break due to the injury, but a full week off to recover appears to have done the trick for the blueliner. He's expected to pair up with Michael Del Zotto in the Flyers' first game of the second half.

Flyers' Schultz Out On Tuesday

News: Nick Schultz (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Penguins, the Flyers' official site reports.
Analysis: Nick Schultz, who has notched 10 assists and 31 PIM in 46 games to date, was injured Monday, along with fellow blueliner Carlo Colaiacovo, so it looks like the Flyers may need to make a recall in advance of Tuesday's contest.

Rare Points For Flyers' Schultz

News: Nick Schultz picked up his first multi-point game of the season Thursday, handing out two assists in an overtime win against Washington.
Analysis: That's well and good, but there's more or less nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective. Nick Schultz produces decent blocked-shot totals and he hits a little, but that's about it.

Flyers' Schultz Gets Assist In Loss

News: Nick Schultz assisted on R.J. Umberger's second-period power-play goal in Wednesday's shootout loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: With only six points in 24 games, Nick Schultz isn't on the radar in most standard fantasy formats, but he's been one of the more trusted blue line options for the team this season for his work on the back end. He's only sat out one game this season and leads all Flyers defensemen with 53 blocked shots.

Flyers Ink Schultz To Contract

News: Nick Schultz signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Flyers on Wednesday.
Analysis: Nick Schultz will give the Flyers another option on the third defensive pairing, but he's unlikely to see any major fantasy relevance given the way his scoring numbers have tailed off in recent years. He compiled a mere five points in 69 games in 2013-14, finishing with a minus-13 rating while splitting time between the Oilers and Blue Jackets.

Jackets' Schultz Likely To Test Market

News: The Blue Jackets haven't had any contract discussions with Nick Schultz, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The unrestricted free agent played just nine games with Columbus after coming over from Edmonton at the trade deadline, managing just one assist and a minus-2 rating. After this year's 69-game total of five points (all assists) and a minus-13 rating, Nick Schultz could have difficulty securing a job with an NHL team this offseason.

Oilers Deal N. Schultz To Blue Jackets

News: Nick Schultz was traded to the Blue Jackets for a fifth-round draft pick on Wednesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: In dealing Nick Schultz, the Oilers open up a spot for top prospect Oscar Klefbom to join the parent club. The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, get a quality depth defenseman to plug into the lineup while Ryan Murray (lower body) and Fedor Tyutin (ankle) nurse injuries. Schultz had only four points in 60 games with the Oilers, but he did supplied 64 hits and 120 blocks on the defensive end.

Oilers' N. Schultz Blocking Shots, But Little Else

News: Nick Schultz has a team-leading 113 blocks over 57 games this season.
Analysis: Aside from that, Nick Schultz has otherwise been a non-factor in the fantasy game, as he has just four points on the campaign. He'll continue to see a fair amount of playing time for the Oilers, but almost all of his utility for the team comes in the work he does in front of his own net.

Oilers' Schultz Struggling To Score

News: Nick Schultz has a lone assist and a minus-1 in 18 games this season for the Oilers.
Analysis: Surprisingly, he's one of the few Oilers whose plus-minus doesn't remain in terrible shape in the wake of the club's league-worst -1.50 goals per game differential. However, until he starts producing more offensively than the one point and eight shots on goal he's mustered thus far, he's probably safe to ignore in most fantasy leagues.

Wild Deal Schultz To Oilers

News: Nick Schultz has been traded to the Oilers in exchange for Tom Gilbert, according to the Oilers' Twitter feed.
Analysis: Nick Schultz will be a nice addition to the Oilers' blueline, but has brought underwhelming fantasy numbers throughout his career. He had just three points in 62 games this season for the Wild.

Wild's Schultz Back From Concussion

News: Nick Schultz was on the ice for 20:23 in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis. It was his preseason debut with the Wild after suffering a concussion in April.
Analysis: He deal with post-concussion symptoms this summer, so his health will be something to monitor early in the season.

Schultz Out For Wild Saturday

News: Schultz (undisclosed) won't play Saturday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Analysis: Maxim Noreau will be in the lineup for the Wild while Schultz is unavailable. He remains day-to-day at this time with the unknown ailment.

Schultz Questionable For Minnesota

News: Schultz (undisclosed) is questionable for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Minneapolis Star Tribune writer Michael Russo reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what his deal is, but his presence or absence shouldn't affect many fantasy matchups either way.

Minnesota's Schultz Back In The Fold

News: Schultz earned 22:51 of ice time against Chicago in his return from a head injury Tuesday.
Analysis: Fortunately, Schultz's injury did not prevent him from participating in the Wild's final game before the All-Star break.

Wild's Schultz Will Return Tuesday In Chicago

News: Schultz (head) will play Tuesday against the Blackhawks, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Barring a last-minute setback, Schultz appears to be a safe play for Minnesota's final game ahead of the All-Star break.

Wild's Schultz Expects To Play Tuesday

News: Schultz (head) expects to play Tuesday against Chicago, the Wild's official site reports.
Analysis: It's the team's final game before the All-Star break, however, so you have to think there's still a slim chance he gets scratched in the event of a setback before the opening faceoff.

Wild's Schultz Skates Sunday

News: Schultz (head) skated with the team Sunday and hopes to play Tuesday in Chicago, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild haven't called anyone up from the minors yet, so team is still holding out hope that Schultz can play. If not, he should return after the All-Star break.

Wild's Schultz Suffers Head Injury

News: Schultz suffered a head injury in Saturday's loss to San Jose, according to the Wild's Official Twitter Feed.
Analysis: The Wild only have one game before the All-Star break -- Tuesday at Chicago -- but coach Todd Richards thinks his blueliner might not be ready for that one. Obviously, a concussion is the first fear here.

Minnesota's Schultz Set To Return

News: Schultz (concussion) will return to the Minnesota lineup against Columbus on Monday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: How much ice time Schultz (who has missed four games) will see Monday will depend on how he feels as the game progresses.

Wild's Schultz Healthy, But Will Not Play Sunday

News: Schultz (head) has been cleared to play, but will be scratched Sunday anyway, reports Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Analysis: Schultz could play Monday for the first time since December 18, against Columbus.

Wild's Schultz Out With Head Injury

News: Schultz (head) missed Tuesday's practice and probably won't play again until after Christmas, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: He'll miss Thursday's game at a minimum, but he could also miss games on Dec. 26 and Dec. 27. The Wild are not calling his head injury a concussion and he won't be evaluated until after Christmas.
