Lightning Re-Sign Sustr For Two Years

News: The Lightning re-signed Andrej Sustr to a two-year, one-way contract.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr received a qualifying offer over the weekend, and it didn't take long for the two sides to reach an agreement. He'll likely open 2015-16 as part of Tampa Bay's third defensive pairing, coming off a 13-point season (all assists) in 72 appearances. Sustr's two-year contract is worth $2.9 million, according to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

Bolts Make Qualifying Offer To Sustr

News: The Lightning have made a qualifying offer to Andrej Sustr, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis: The move simply secures his rights while the two sides continue to talk. He'll get a small raise, but expect a new deal that helps control his salary.

Lightning's Sustr Set To Return

News: Andrej Sustr (upper body) is slated to play in Thursday's playoff opener against the Red Wings, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: As is fellow defenseman Braydon Coburn, with Mark Barberio thus a candidate to be the odd man out on the Tampa Bay blue line Thursday night.

Bolts' Sustr Expects To Play Thursday

News: Andrej Sustr (upper body) expects to return to the lineup for Thursday's playoff opener against the Red Wings, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr skated on the Bolts' first defensive pairing alongside Victor Hedman at Wednesday's practice, with coach Jon Cooper indicating after the session that it looks "promising" that the ailing blueliner will be able to play. Expect a formal confirmation on Sustr's status to arrive after Thursday's morning skate.

Bolts' Sustr Continues To Target Game 1 Return

News: Andrej Sustr (upper body) practiced in a no-contact capacity Monday, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Though his activity was limited in Monday's session, Andrej Sustr remains optimistic that he'll be available for Game 1 of the Lightning's first-round playoff series Thursday against the Red Wings. After missing the team's final six regular-season games with the injury, Sustr will probably need to get in at least one full-contact practice before receiving clearance to play.

Bolts' Sustr Likely Ready To Play For Game 1

News: Coach Jon Cooper said Thursday that Andrej Sustr (upper body) is being considered probable for Game 1 of the Lightning's first-round playoff series, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: While it doesn't appear the Lightning are counting on having Andrej Sustr available for either of their two remaining regular-season contests, the blueliner seems to be on track to return to full health within the next week. Sustr was on the ice for Thursday's optional practice in a no-conduct jersey, but could increase his involvement in team activities over the next couple of days.

Bolts' Sustr May Not Practice Thursday

News: Coach Jon Cooper indicated that Andrej Sustr (upper body) may not be ready to practice by Thursday, NHL.com's Bryan Burns reports.
Analysis: The blueliner was able to skate on his own prior to Tuesday's team session to suggest his return was forthcoming, but Cooper didn't seem to be confident about that materializing a day later. It doesn't sound like Andrej Sustr has sustained any sort of setback; instead, the Lightning may just be preparing to have him prepare for a return for the first game of the playoffs rather than one of the final two regular-season matches.

Lightning's Sustr Nears Return

News: Andrej Sustr (upper body) skated before practice Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr -- who last played on March 28 -- noted that he hopes to participate in Thursday's morning skate, with an eye toward suiting up in one of the Lightning's final two regular season contests. Meanwhile, as the postseason approaches, fellow blueliners Victor Hedman and Braydon Coburn are also nearing a return to the Tampa Bay lineup.

Lightning's Sustr Sidelined

News: Andrej Sustr (upper body) will be out one-to-two weeks, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Andrej Sustr -- who has 13 helpers in 73 games -- sidelined, the Lightning have bolstered their blue line depth by recalling Luke Witkowski from AHL Syracuse.

Bolts' Sustr Gathers Assist In Win

News: Andrej Sustr pocketed an assist in Tuesday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Following the acquisition of Braydon Coburn at the trade deadline, the Bolts shuffled around their defensive pairings, with Andrej Sustr slotting in next to Mark Barberio. Both players profile as stay-at-home types, which should prevent either from accumulating much meaningful offensive numbers. Sustr hasn't exactly shined regardless of who his defensive mate as been this season, as his total of nine points over 61 games would attest.

Bolts' Sustr Picks Up Rare Point

News: Andrej Sustr picked up an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr has only been out of the lineup for three games this season, but he's not been able to do much while seeing a regular role. As neither an offensive-minded rearguard nor much of a grinder, Sustr's point, hit, and PIM totals aren't particularly impressive, despite the fact he's averaging over 20 minutes of ice time.

Sustr Notches Two Helpers For Bolts

News: Andrej Sustr picked up a pair of assists in Thursday's 5-0 stomping of the Sabres.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr's first multi-point game of the season -- and just the second of his career -- ends a string of eight games without a point for the hulking Czech defenseman, but this shouldn't be viewed as any kind of breakout. He doesn't see a lot of ice time -- just a bit over 16 minutes per game -- and essentially no power-play time at all, which makes it hard to sustain much offensive success.

Bolts' Sustr Gets Assist

News: Andrej Sustr picked up an assist in Thursday's loss to San Jose.
Analysis: It's just his third point of the season (15 games). He does deliver about one blocked shot per game, so he might have value in more obscure formats. But it's more likely that any fantasy value he has may lie in the future ... if his game develops.

Bolts' Sustr Set To Play Thursday

News: Andrej Sustr (hand) will play Thursday against the Flames, Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr joined Eric Brewer on the third pairing at the Bolts' morning skate. The 23-year-old missed just one game with what was evidently a mild hand injury.

Bolts' Sustr Practicing

News: Andrej Sustr (hand) practiced with the team Monday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr missed Saturday's contest with a hand injury, but looks like he could be back in the lineup Thursday against the Flames.

Bolts' Sustr Out Saturday With Hand Injury

News: Andrej Sustr (hand) will not play Saturday against the Capitals, Nick Williams of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr sustained the hand injury Thursday against the Flyers and is viewed as day-to-day at this time. It doesn't sound like he sustained any sort of fracture to the hand, an injury that forced fellow blueliner Victor Hedman to injured reserve a few weeks ago.

Lightning's Sustr Suffers Upper-Body injury

News: Andrej Sustr missed the third period of Thursday's game and is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr's injury is believed to be to the hand/forearm area, but it doesn't appear to be anything serious. The team should update his status in the next few days if anything changes, but he is day-to-day for now.

Bolts' Sustr Goes Minus-4 In Loss

News: Andrej Sustr posted a minus-4 rating in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr was collateral damage in the Wild's offensive onslaught Saturday, finding himself on the ice at inopportune times. With no points through eight games and middling totals in the specialty categories, it's hard to justify owning Sustr in just about any league format.

Bolts Scratch Sustr

News: Andrej Sustr was a healthy scratch for Monday's game against Montreal, according to Sportsnet One.
Analysis: He made room for Eric Brewer. Andrej Sustr could see a lot of roster shuffling this season until he grows his game a bit more.

Bolts Re-Sign Sustr To One-Year Deal

News: Andrej Sustr re-signed with the Lightning on a one-year contract Friday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: The contract is a one-way deal, which should help Andrej Sustr's chances of claiming a roster spot out of training camp. He totaled eight points in 43 games for the Lightning last season, adding 26 hits and 36 blocks defensively.

Lightning's Sustr Set To Make Playoff Debut

News: Andrej Sustr is set to make his playoff debut for the Lightning on Friday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Bay Tribune reports.
Analysis: It looks as though Andrej Sustr will start rather than Tom Pyatt or Ondrej Palat. Sustr scored his first career NHL goal on April 5, and now will be thrown into the playoffs. He will serve as the team's seventh defenseman, meaning the Lightning will go with only 11 forwards on Friday.

Bolts' Sustr Gets First NHL Goal

News: Andrej Sustr scored his first NHL goal in Saturday's loss to Dallas.
Analysis: He's not exactly an offensive force, but he's big and steady, and might grow into a 30-point guy some day.

Lightning Recall Sustr

News: The Lightning recalled Andrej Sustr from AHL Syracuse on Friday, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Andrej Sustr was brought up to add some depth on the defensive end with Mike Kostka dealing with a concussion. Sustr appeared in 38 games with the Lightning earlier this season and recorded seven assists and a plus-4 rating.

Lightning's Sustr Demoted To AHL

News: Andrej Sustr was demoted to AHL Syracuse on Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times' Damian Cristodero reports.
Analysis: The 6-foot-8 Czech defenseman will head to the AHL for the first time this season. He's registered fewer than 13 minutes of ice time per game in January, after regularly topping the 15-minute mark earlier this season. In all likelihood, he'll be back with the Lightning at some point before the end of the season.

Bolts' Sustr: No Points In Last Nine Games

News: Andrej Sustr has gone nine games without a point.
Analysis: He has six assists on the season, but he's focusing on quiet, at-home play instead of scoring. He's keeping his nose clean, too -- he's not throwing hits or picking up penalties. You'd be better off looking elsewhere for your dollar defenders.
