Sykora Signs With Swiss Team

News: Petr Sykora signed a contract with SC Bern in Switzerland on Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora was hoping to land an NHL job, but he couldn't find a taker, so he decided to head to Switzerland to play. Sykora could still wind up in the NHL this season, but he will have to clear waivers before signing with a team of his choice.

Devils Not Planning on Signing Sykora At Present

News: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello noted that Petr Sykora, a free agent, is not in New Jersey's plans "at this point," according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: The Devils have a handful of minor leaguers in camp and are not planning on bringing back the 36-year-old veteran presently. Petr Sykora potted 21 goals last season and has said he'd like to play in the NHL this season.

Free Agent Sykora Planning To Play In NHL

News: Petr Sykora is planning on playing in the NHL this season, The Star-Ledger reports
Analysis: Petr Sykora turned 36 late last year, and the lockout could have led him to play in Europe instead. However, he is drawing NHL interest after playing in all 82 games and totaling 44 points (21 G, 23 A) for the Devils last season. Sykora will have to wait until the CBA is officially ratified before signing on with a team, but New Jersey appears to be his top choice at this time.

Devils To Insert Sykora For Wednesday

News: Petr Sykora will play in Wednesday's Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has been out of the lineup since Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals due to a lack of production in the first three games against the Rangers. With the Devils desperate for any type of offense, the team is going to put the veteran Sykora, who will have played in six Stanley Cup Finals, into the mix in the hopes of staving off elimination.

Devils' Sykora Scratched For Game 4

News: Petr Sykora will be a healthy scratch for Monday's Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Newark Star-Ledger's Rich Chere reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has been largely ineffective in three games against the Rangers with no points and three shots on goal. The veteran will sit out Game 4 in favor of Jacob Josefson.

Devils' Sykora To Play Another Year

News: Petr Sykora said Friday that he plans to return for at least another season, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora played in just 14 NHL games between the 2009-10 season and the beginning of this season, but he rejuvenated his career by playing in all 82 games and helping the Devils reach the playoffs. Sykora and the Devils still have this postseason to focus on, but it looks like Sykora will be part of their plans for the next campaign.

Sykora Snags Goal For Devils

News: Petr Sykora scored New Jersey's only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout win over Chicago, his 18th goal of the season.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has been quiet for stretches this season, but he's closing in on 20 goals, which would be a good accomplishment for the veteran winger. He's giving the Devils solid secondary scoring and could be a savvy pick in playoff pools if you feel the Devils could win a round or two. Sykora, also, was nominated as the team's representive for the Masterson Trophy for perserverance.

Four-Game Streak For Devils' Sykora

News: Petr Sykora posted a goal in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay, extending a points streak to four games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has five points over the last four games and is giving the Devils a good boost on the second line with Patrik Elias and David Clarkson. Sykora will be a clear candidate for comeback player of the year and has a serviceable 33 points in 61 games.

Sykora Snags Two Points For Devils

News: Petr Sykora grabbed a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over Toronto, giving him three points in the last four games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has given the Devils a solid secondary scoring option and could challenge 45 points on the season. He likely isn't a factor in any but the deepest of leagues, but you could do worse, even though his upside is entirely gone.

New Jersey's Sykora Sits Wednesday

News: Petr Sykora (undisclosed issue) did not practice Wednesday, Bergen Record writer Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora had an ice wrap around his left wrist/forearm Tuesday after being struck by a shot in the Devils' win over Buffalo. According to a team spokesperson, Sykora is "resting" Wednesday, which suggests that he has a shot to play Friday against the Ducks.

Sykora Continues Scoring For Devils

News: Petr Sykora grabbed New Jersey's only goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to Boston, giving him four points over the last three games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has had stretches of productivity this year before vanishing for several games at a time. The goal on Thursday was his second in as many nights and he is providing solid secondary scoring for New Jersey with 12 goals in 42 games.

Sykora Grabs Assist In Devils' Loss

News: Petr Sykora's assist in Monday's loss to Ottawa gave him eight points in the last eight games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has been a solid source of secondary scoring for New Jersey but his upside is severely limited. He should finish with 20-25 goals, but expecting any more from the veteran is foolish.

Sykora Leads New Jersey Past Buffalo Wednesday

News: Petr Sykora scored New Jersey's first two goals of the game Wednesday night in a 3-1 win over Buffalo. Both goals came at even strength.
Analysis: Petr Sykora finished the night with a plus-2 rating and three shots on net. He now has 10 goals on the year with five of those coming in his last eight games.

Skykora Sparks Devils

News: Petr Sykora posted a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over Montreal, giving him three goals in the last four games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora is hardly the scorer he was 10 years earlier, but the veteran has been active during the Devils' recent four-game winning streak with five points over that span. Sykora can help in very deep leagues, but he is on pace for close to 40 points.

Sykora's Goal Enough For Devils

News: Petr Sykora netted his fifth goal of the season in Friday's 1-0 win over the Islanders, a power-play marker.
Analysis: Petr Sykora has been quietly useful for New Jersey, but his 11 points won't earn much attention. The Devils are finding a niche for him on the team's second line with Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias. Sykora has three goals and two assists the last two weeks, and has value in very deep leagues or leagues that only start players over 35.

Devils' Sykora Riding Small Streak

News: Petr Sykora has a goal and two assists over the last three games with a point in each contest.
Analysis: The crafty veteran sits with nine points on the season and three goals, several of which have come directly off face-offs won back to him. Petr Sykora isn't going to surprise many people and nine points in 17 games is the type of pace that was expected from the 35-year old. He has found some chemistry on the team's second line with Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias, making arguably up one of the oldest line combinations in the entire league. Consider him in very deep leagues if you need a scoring boost, just don't expect a deluge of production.

Devils' Sykora Snipes First Of Season

News: Petr Sykora scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Stars.
Analysis: It's his fifth point of the season. That's largely unspectacular but deep formats may find value in rostering and activating him.

Devils' Sykora Remains in Lineup Despite Illness

News: Though Petr Sykora was dealing with flu-like symptoms earlier this week, he has been able to play in each of the Devils' last two games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora's ice time - around 15 minutes per game - has remained consistent despite the illness. He'll continue filling a reserve center spot moving forward.

Devils' Sykora Dealing With Flu-Like Symptoms

News: Petr Sykora is questionable for Tuesday night's game with flu-like symptoms, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora remained at the hotel but the Devils' coach says there's still a chance he plays. If Sykora can't go, defenseman Mark Fraser will skate up to left wing.

Devils' Sykora: Possible Move Up Lineup

News: Petr Sykora will likely benefit from increased ice time after Jacob Josefson underwent shoulder surgery on Friday.
Analysis: Josefson is out three-to-four months and Petr Sykora's versatility will allow a shift to the wing on one of the top-two lines. His fantasy value takes an uptick in this situation.

Sykora Moving To Center For Devils

News: Petr Sykora centered a line of Mattias Tedenby and David Clarkson this week at practice, the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The Devils have juggled Petr Sykora around a bit the last few days and now have the veteran at center on a versatile line. Sykora has two assists in four games, but the new line which he's centering can be used in a variety of game situations from attacking to checking. Sykora will have to start producing at a higher rate to warrant consideration in most leagues.

Devils' Sykora Riding Mini-Streak

News: Petr Sykora secured an assist on New Jersey's only goal in Thursday's shootout victory over Los Angeles, his second assist in as many games.
Analysis: Petr Sykora's off to a solid start if you throw out his game against Philadelphia to open the season with two assists in the last two contests. Few veterans are in as opportune of a situation as is Sykora, skating alongside Zach Parise and Patrik Elias. Sykora has value in deeper leagues provided he remains with Elias and Sykora.

Devils Sign Sykora

News: New Jersey inked Petr Sykora to a one-year contract Wednesday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Analysis: Petr Sykora had a strong training camp and showed chemistry with Zach Parise and Patrik Elias, posting two goals on four preseason games. He could be worth a waiver pick-up or late draft pick in deeper leagues if he sticks on the top line with Elias and Parise.

Devils Open Spot For Sykora?

News: With the trade of David Steckel to Toronto, a spot opens up on the New Jersey roster possibly for Petr Sykora, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora's been the darling of training camp and has seen time on a line with Zach Parise and Patrik Elias. The Devils still have not extended the training camp invitee a contract, but it could be impending.

Sykora Survives Devils' Cuts, No Contract Yet

News: Petr Sykora does not have a contract offer yet from New Jersey, but remained with the club following Monday's round of cuts, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Petr Sykora had an impressive preseason and very well could end up skating alongside Zach Parise and Patrik Elias -- certainly a great situation for a training camp invitee. The Devils need a boost in scoring with Travis Zajac sidelined through November, and Sykora could provide that. He is 34 years old, but if he remains on the top line, he's well worth a flier in the late rounds of your draft in deeper leagues.
