Avs' Tanguay Picks Up Two Points

News: Alex Tanguay scored a goal, added an assist, went plus-2 and was stuck with two PIM in Tuesday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: Quite the stat-stuffing evening for Alex Tanguay, who's been scoring inconsistently, but has ridden a trio of big games to a total of seven points in his last six contests. However, his lack of shots on goal is pretty concerning, as Tanguay -- never a prolific shooter in the first place -- has posted zeroes in that column in four of the last seven games.

Tanguay Gets Two Goals, Assist In Avs' Win

News: Alex Tanguay scored two goals and added one assist in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: He has five points (two goals, three assists) in his last four games and 10 in his last 10. He's delivering reasonable output for his fantasy owners in deep leagues.

Avs' Tanguay Chips In Two Helpers

News: Alex Tanguay dished out a pair of assists, went plus-2 and added two penalty minutes Thursday against the Jets.
Analysis: He went without a shot on goal for the second straight game and third in the last five, but hey, at least Alex Tanguay chipped in some offense. He's actually been doing that with great regularity of late, having notched eight points in his last seven games despite going scoreless over the last two prior to Thursday's action.

Tanguay Leads Avs To 5-2 Win

News: Alex Tanguay scored a goal and added two assists in the Avs' 5-2 win over the Stars on Saturday.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay now has 15 points in 22 games this season and is playing some of his best hockey in recent memory. The 35-year-old left winger is the only holdover from the Sakic-Forsberg era and is providing a veteran presence in Colorado. He's one of head coach Patrick Roy's most trusted forwards but given his age and injury history his current scoring pace may not be sustainable. Tanguay hasn't played full season in over a decade.

Avs' Tanguay Likely To Play Wednesday

News: Alex Tanguay (fractured jaw) is considered likely to play Wednesday against the Blackhawks, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay appeared set to play Tuesday night in Arizona, but the Avs ended up scratching him after he was still suffering from blurred vision during the team's morning skate. This latest report would seem to indicate that Tanguay's being held out Tuesday was a precautionary measure, so assuming that he's now experiencing some improvement, it looks promising that he'll suit up. The veteran forward is tied with Matt Duchene for the team lead with seven goals on the season.

Avalanche's Tanguay Playing Wednesday

News: Alex Tanguay (jaw) will play Wednesday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay was not listed among Colorado's scratches, so he will return to action after missing the last two games.

Avs Reverse Course, Rule Tanguay Out Tuesday

News: Alex Tanguay (fractured jaw), who was expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Coyotes, will instead miss his second consecutive game, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: After it was indicated a day earlier that Alex Tanguay wouldn't have to miss further time due to the jaw injury, coach Patrick Roy said the forward was still experiencing blurred vision and pain on the side of his head following Tuesday's morning skate. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like the setback is significant for Tanguay at the moment, so with an extra day off, the possibility exists that he could be ready to go when the Avs return home for a game Wednesday versus the Blackhawks.

Avs' Tanguay Will Return On Tuesday

News: Alex Tanguay (face) has been cleared by doctors and will play against the Coyotes on Tuesday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay was hit in the face with a puck in Thursday's game against the Capitals and was forced to miss Colorado's game on Saturday. It was originally feared that he would be out indefinitely, but after further evaluation it was determined that the injury was not long-term. In 20 appearances this season, the 35-year-old winger has seven goals and four assists.

Avs' Tanguay: Condition Upgraded To Day-To-Day

News: The Avs are labeling Alex Tanguay (facial fracture) as day-to-day.
Analysis: It appeared the Avalanche were going with the "out indefinitely" tag with Alex Tanguay after he took a puck to the face Thursday night, but their evaluation Friday evidently showed the injury wasn't severe as expected. He'll still be forced out of action Saturday against the Hurricanes, with his availability in question for the team's next game Tuesday as well.

Avs Rule Tanguay Out Indefinitely

News: Alex Tanguay has been ruled out indefinitely with a facial fracture, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Coach Patrick Roy noted that Alex Tanguay avoided a fractured jaw in Thursday's loss to the Capitals, but he's still be forced out action for an undetermined length of time as a result of the fracture. The Avs will have to wait and see how much progress Tanguay makes in the next few days before having a clearer idea of when he might return. In any event, it looks like the Avs could be without their leading goal scorer for multiple games.

Avs' Tanguay Leaves Thursday's Contest

News: Alex Tanguay suffered a jaw injury during Thursday's loss to Washington and had to leave the contest, the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: The veteran was hit in the face with an Alex Ovechkin shot, which doesn't sound like fun in the least. Coach Patrick Roy later said the team will know more about Alex Tanguay's injury Friday. As for Thursday's game, Tanguay only saw 7:15 of action and logged a minus-1 rating with no points.

Avs' Tanguay Diagnosed With Facial Fracture

News: Alex Tanguay has been diagnosed with a facial fracture and won't play Saturday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The Avalanche haven't clarified if the injury will knock Alex Tanguay out of action for multiple games, but he'll be held out for at least one contest while the team continues to assess his condition. The winger, who suffered the injury when he was struck in the face by an Alex Ovechkin shot Thursday against the Capitals, has been one of the few players to live up to expectations in a disappointing season for the Avs. He has seven goals and 11 points over 20 games.

Avs' Tanguay Nets Seventh Goal

News: Alex Tanguay netted his seventh goal of the season in Thursday's shootout victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: Elevated to the Avs' top line for the first time all season, Alex Tanguay likely earned his stay there for at least one more game after giving the Avs a short-lived 2-1 lead in the second period. It was the third goal in four games for Tanguay, who leads the team with seven tallies on the campaign.

Avs' Tanguay To Play On New Line

News: Alex Tanguay will play alongside Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly in Thursday's game against the Rangers, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avs' offense has struggled to produce so far this season, so coach Patrick Roy continues to shake up the lineups looking for offense. Alex Tanguay was previously playing with the third line, and leads the team with six goals in 17 games. He should continue to have opportunities to score goals with his new line.

Avs' Tanguay Scores In Shootout Win

News: Alex Tanguay scored his fifth goal of the 2014-2015 season in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Maple Leafs, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: He scored on a breakaway to tie the game at 2-2, in the second period. Alex Tanguay ended the night with five shots and scored in the shootout as well. His five goals lead the team, and he has eight points in 15 games. Tanguay continues to be a bright spot on what can be seen as a disappointing Avs' season so far.

Shortie Gives Avs' Tanguay Six-Game Streak

News: Alex Tanguay scored a shorthanded goal in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Sharks, pushing his point streak to six games.
Analysis: While he hasn't managed any multi-point games over the course of this streak, the veteran winger now has four goals on his ledger after opening the season with four pointless contests. While he sat out of Monday's practice with foot soreness, it didn't seem to affect him on the ice Tuesday.

Avs' Tanguay Nursing Sore Foot, But Set To Play

News: Alex Tanguay was held out of Monday's practice with a sore foot, but is expected to play Tuesday against the Sharks, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The day off from practice essentially amounted to a maintenance day for Alex Tanguay, who will enter Tuesday's contest riding a five-game point streak. With the talented trio of Matt Duchene and Jarome Iginla joining him on the second line and the power play, Tanguay should continue to generate points with regularity if his health remains intact.

Avs' Tanguay Collects Third Goal Of Season

News: Alex Tanguay scored a goal on one of his two shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Panthers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay got off to a slow start to the season, being held without a point through the first four games, but he's starting to heat up with goals in each of his last three. Coach Patrick Roy considered putting Tanguay on the team's first line in the preseason, and if he can work his way back there, he'd have considerable fantasy value.

Avs' Tanguay Delivers First Point Of Season

News: Alex Tanguay collected his first point of the season with a goal in the second minute of Thursday's loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay became a hot waiver wire pickup after he opened the season in a top-six role, and while he still remains tied to Nathan MacKinnon on the second or third line, he's failed to provide the offensive spark the Avs have been looking for. He's mustered only six shots on goal while averaging 16:50 of ice time over five games.

Avs' Tanguay On Tap For Top Line Role

News: Avs coach Patrick Roy said at Thursday's training camp session that the Alex Tanguay is slated to open the season as the right wing on the first line, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: If that ends up being the case, it could be a boon for Alex Tanguay, who would be placed alongside Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon on a line full of offensive firepower. Even at the tail end of his career, Tanguay has shown an aptitude for collecting points, but staying healthy could prove problematic. Knee and hip issues limited him to 16 games last season, and he also missed a total of 26 contests across the previous two campaigns. There's still plenty of risk with Tanguay, but the prospect of playing with MacKinnon could greatly outweigh it.

Avs' Tanguay Skates Tuesday

News: Alex Tanguay (knee) took to the ice for an optional skate over the weekend, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: No, Alex Tanguay is not gearing up for a return to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 7 against the Wild. He's still slated to miss the rest of the season and looks to just be getting some conditioning work in as he recovers from February hip surgery.

Avs' Tanguay Done For Season

News: Alex Tanguay -- who has been dealing with a knee issue -- will undergo season-ending hip surgery on Friday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The report notes that the hip problem the surgery will address was a factor in Alex Tanguay's knee problem. The veteran forward, who last suited up on Jan. 30, thus finishes the 2013-14 season with 11 points in 16 games.

Avs' Tanguay To Miss Fifth Straight

News: Alex Tanguay (knee) will not play Saturday against the Islanders, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Alex Tanguay's sore knee left him unable to practice Friday, and he'll miss his fifth consecutive game as a result. Though the knee has caused problems for him all season, the Avalanche don't appear to be concerned about this latest setback, believing he'll be back in the lineup when play resumes after the break.

Avs' Tanguay Iffy Thursday

News: Alex Tanguay (knee) was not on the ice for Thursday's morning skate, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: As a result, Alex Tanguay, who last suited up on Jan. 30, remains very iffy for Thursday's game against the Flyers, with the report adding that he probably won't play again before the Olympic break.

Avs' Tanguay Out Again Tuesday

News: Alex Tanguay (knee) will not play Tuesday against the Rangers, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Alex Tanguay will miss his third straight game while he recovers from the knee injury. The team is still considering him day-to-day, but it's growing increasingly doubtful that he'll be back before the break for the Winter Olympics.
