Isles' Nelson Scores 14th Of Season

News: Brock Nelson scored his 14th goal of the season, had an assist, and was credited with six shots on goal in Friday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: Brock Nelson has now tallied 26 points in 32 games this season, to go with a plus-6 rating. With eight power-play goals and a plus-6 rating, the 23-year-old has been a fantasy gem in 2014-15. Centering the third line and playing on the top power-play unit with John Tavares, Nelson could reach 30 goals and 60 points this season. He should be owned in almost all leagues.

Isles' Nelson Snaps Brief Skid

News: After going scoreless for two games, Brock Nelson got right back at it Tuesday, scoring a goal and assisting on Thomas Hickey's overtime winner against the Senators. He finished the night plus-2.
Analysis: Brock Nelson just keeps on clipping along. He's fallen a little off that point-per-game pace -- now with 22 points in 25 games -- but looks like he'll have every chance to clear 60-plus, if not 70 points this year.

Isles' Nelson: 19 Points In 20 Games

News: Brock Nelson scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh. It was his third goal and fourth point in his last four games.
Analysis: His breakout continues -- he now has 10 goals and nine assists in just 20 games. His breakout is being overshadowed by the strong play of a few other young players around the league, but his work is just as impressive. Use him as much as you can.

Another Multi-Point Effort For Isles' Nelson

News: Brock Nelson tallied a goal and assist and fired off eight shots in Tuesday's win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Brock Nelson has racked up 15 shot attempts over his last two games, an encouraging development after he had been held without one in the two games before that. Wednesday's game also marked the fifth time this season that Nelson has contributed two or more points in a game.

Isles' Nelson: 16 Points In 17 Games

News: Brock Nelson scored his eighth goal of the season in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay. He has 16 points in 17 games this season.
Analysis: #nhlsurprise. That's Brock Nelson. Let's be real -- he's talented, but no one expected this. However, he does have the potential to be a second-line center who can score. The best is yet to come.

Isles' Nelson Nabs Another Goal

News: Brock Nelson netted the Islanders' only goal of the game in their shootout victory over the Kings on Thursday.
Analysis: While Brock Nelson didn't end up sticking on the Isles' top line after receiving a look with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo over the past weekend, he's continue to churn out production no matter where he slots in for the Islanders. With seven goals and 14 points in 13 games, Nelson has looked like a true cornerstone player for the organization for years to come.

Shot On Top Line Awaits For Isles' Nelson

News: Coach Jack Capuano said Friday that Brock Nelson would be elevated to the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo for Saturday's game against the Sharks, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It's a much-deserved appointment for Brock Nelson, who has been one of the young season's most surprising stars with an impressive six goals and 12 points in 10 games. He'll displace the disappointing Cory Conacher (two points in 10 games), who was unable to offer much production despite playing next to one of the game's best pivots in Tavares. Nelson seems better prepared to fit in with Tavares and Okposo, as the trio had already established some strong continuity as members of the Isles' top power-play unit. Those who own Nelson that were thinking of selling high on the young forward may want to think twice; his early breakout could very well last for the long haul.

Another Two-Point Night For Isles' Nelson

News: Brock Nelson finished with a goal and an assist in 18:16 worth of action Tuesday against the Jets.
Analysis: Brock Nelson fell into a brief scoring drought last week, but he's rebounded swiftly with back-to-back two-point showings. Nelson's lack of a track record at the NHL level makes it difficult to say with much conviction that he'll remain a point-per-game contributor throughout the season, but keep riding the wave while he continues to sizzle.

Isles' Nelson Breaks Temporary Slump

News: Brock Nelson tallied a goal and assist and finished with a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 7-5 victory over the Stars.
Analysis: The toast of the NHL after churning out seven points in his first three games, Brock Nelson has predictably fallen off that torrid pace, contributing three points over his last five contests. Even so, that more modest level of production along with an expected positive contribution in plus/minus rating probably exceeds what most projected for Nelson heading into the season. He's still worth rostering in most formats, even if his peak value has already come and gone.

Isles' Nelson: Eight Points In First Five Games

News: Brock Nelson's assist in Saturday's loss to the Penguins gives him eight points, including four goals, in the first five games of the season. He's picked up at least one point in four of those five games.
Analysis: This guy has talent and he's really starting to show it this season. He certainly won't keep up this pace, but he should deliver you solid fantasy value this year. After all, he's getting time on the team's first power-play unit, and that's a recipe for output.

Isles' Nelson Keeps Rolling

News: Brock Nelson scored the game-winning goal in the Islanders' 6-2 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Brock Nelson has come out of the gate scorching hot to begin the season, already compiling four goals and three assists in three games. The 23-year-old's production figures to trickle off eventually, but while he maintains a spot in the team's talent-rich top-six forwards in the power-play unit, the dropoff may not be extreme. It's probably worthwhile to own Nelson in just about any format, at least until he cools.

Isles' Nelson: Six Points In First Two Games

News: Brock Nelson's hot start to the season continued Saturday with a goal and assist in Saturday's 4-3 win over Carolina.
Analysis: On fire doesn't sum up the start this guy has had. He has three goals and three assists in his first two games, and has moved from sleeper to studly. Check your wire -- a lot of owners slept on him at their draft. Scoop and smile.

Isles' Nelson Tallies Four Points In Opener

News: Brock Nelson put on a clinic in Friday's season-opening win over Carolina, recording two goals and two assists.
Analysis: What a show by Brock Nelson, who also finished the night with three shots on goal, two hits, and a plus-2 rating. One of his goals came on the power play, where he was lined up alongside Kyle Okposo and John Tavares. Nelson also looked great at even strength, centering Ryan Strome and Mikhail Grabovski. The 22-year-old is primed for a big season and will get plenty of opportunities to produce, especially if he remains in the top-six and on the top power-play unit.

Isles' Nelson Has To Be Helped Off Ice

News: Brock Nelson was sent face first into the boards during Friday night's game, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This required Brock Nelson to take five stitches but apparently he is good enough to return to the game. One might wonder why the Islanders would even bother sending him back out n a meaningless preseason game. Perhaps it's because he's playing on the top line with John Tavares and they want the duo to get in as much work as possible before the real games begin.

Isles' Nelson Now the Favorite To Play Top Line

News: Brock Nelson is now the favorite to begin the season on the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, according to Newsday.
Analysis: This is a complete reversal from just a couple of days ago when coach Jack Capuano stated that he didn't want to move Brock Nelson off of center. What it comes down to is that no one has really stood out so far in camp and with the Isles overloaded at center, it makes sense that they would move someone to wing.

Isles' Want to Keep Nelson At Center

News: Islanders coach Jack Capuano said Monday that he would like to keep Brock Nelson at center, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This would seem to put the kibosh on any chance Brock Nelson had of playing on the top line with John Tavares. The problem is the Isles are loaded with young centers. They can't all make the team so at least one or two will have to move to wing or be sent down to the AHL.

Isles' Nelson Could End Up On Top Line

News: Brock Nelson could end up on the Islanders' top line with John Tavares, according to Islanders web site.
Analysis: The Isles have an opening on the top line and training camp could really be an open tryout for several players to get their chance to play with Tavares. Brock Nelson would have to move from center to wing if he were to make the change but so would several other players if they were given the chance. Nelson has the size and hands to play with Tavares and his fantasy value would rise quite a bit should he end up winning this job.

Isles' Nelson Finishes Season With 14th Goal

News: Brock Nelson capped his first NHL season with a goal Sunday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Brock Nelson's 26 points and minus-10 rating over 72 games weren't anything special for a player who saw a lot of time as a top-six forward, but it wasn't a bad showing for a 22-year-old. He probably won't be asked to play a frontline role with John Tavares set to return for the start of next season, but he'll still get plenty of run for the Islanders.

Isles' Nelson Scores Goal Wednesday

News: Brock Nelson recorded his 10th goal of the season in Wednesday's game against the Rangers at Yankee Stadium.
Analysis: Brock Nelson has been red-hot for the Islanders with seven goals in his last 13 games. He only took two shots on goal Wednesday, but connected to light the lamp in the second period. The youngster is showing some significant offensive development and could throw his hat into the ring for the Calder Trophy if he continues the strong performance.
