Panthers Activate Barkov From Injured Reserve

News: The Panthers activated Aleksander Barkov (hand) from injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov is ready to return to action after missing the last two weeks due to his hand injury. He's plenty talented, but with just four points in 19 games this season, he's not much of a fantasy factor just yet.

Panthers' Barkov Cleared To Play

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) has been cleared to play, Matthew DeFranks of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was expected back over the weekend, but wasn't quite ready. It sounds like he's a good bet to suit up for Tuesday's matchup with the Capitals for now, but we won't know for sure until we get another update after Tuesday's morning skate.

Panthers' Barkov Likely To Remain Out Friday

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) isn't expected to rejoin the Florida lineup for either of the team's two weekend games against the Red Wings or Sabres, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov did join the team for the trip north and took part in Thursday's practice, but was still icing his hand after the session, a sign that there's still some lingering pain. He seems to have turned his sights to a return Tuesday against the Capitals.

Panthers' Barkov Expected To Practice Thursday

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) is expected to return to practice Thursday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov, who has missed the previous four games, will meet the team in Detroit in an attempt to prove his hand has healed. Since he's been out for over a week, it's difficult to say if Barkov would immediately reenter the lineup Friday against the Red Wings, even if he looks good in practice the day before.

Panthers Place Barkov On IR

News: The Panthers placed Aleksander Barkov (hand) on IR Monday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The move was retroactive to a week ago, so he'll be eligible to return as soon as he's ready. The center has already been ruled out for Monday's game against the Blues, but could get back in the lineup Friday against the Red Wings.

Panthers' Barkov (Hand) Out Monday

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) will not fly with the team to St. Louis for Monday's game, George Richards of the Miami Hearld reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was expected to miss just a couple games with a swollen hand as the result of blocking a shot, but that will extend to at least a three game absence. Coach Gerard Gallant indicated that he could join the team Friday in Detroit, however.

Panthers' Barkov (Hand) Scratched Saturday Night

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) will not play Saturday against the Sabres, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was able to resume skating Friday, but it appears likely he'll miss another game or two due to the swelling in his hand.

Panthers' Barkov Skates Friday

News: Aleksander Barkov (hand) resumed skating Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Panthers indicated Thursday that Aleksander Barkov was expected to miss a couple of games with the injury, so it still seems unlikely that he'll play Saturday against the Sabres. He may need to get a full-contact practice in before the Panthers sign off on his return to the lineup.

Panthers' Barkov To Miss A Couple Games

News: Aleksander Barkov will miss a couple of games due to a swollen hand, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Although the Panthers ruled out any sort of fracture to the hand, which Aleksander Barkov sustained while blocking a shot Monday, the swelling is still severe enough to inhibit the center when he holds the stick. It sounds like he'll just have to take a few days off for the inflammation to calm down, keeping him out of the lineup through the end of the weekend. It sounds like he hopes to be ready to play for the Panthers' Dec. 8 tilt with the Blues. Jussi Jokinen will man center in Barkov's place until he returns to full health.

Panthers' Barkov Has Hand Injury

News: Aleksander Barkov's upper-body injury is more specifically a swollen hand, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov suffered the injury when he blocked a shot in Monday's game. X-rays revealed that Barkov was able to avoid a fracture, so he could only need an extra day or two to nurse himself back to health.

Panthers' Barkov Ruled Out Tuesday

News: Aleksander Barkov has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Red Wings with a minor upper-body injury, the Miami Herald's George Richards reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov hurt himself while blocking a shot in Monday's loss to the Blue Jackets. The Panthers are considering him day-to-day for now, and with the ailment being labeled as minor, there's a good chance he'll be ready to go for the team's next game Thursday.

Panthers' Barkov Back In Thursday

News: Aleksander Barkov (illness) will be back in the lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was scratched from Tuesday's game with an illness, but demonstrated he was healthy by taking part in the Panthers' early skate without incident. The 19-year-old has all the promise in the world, but his production has yet to match his immense gifts. He's tallied just two goals and an assist over 13 games this season.

Panthers' Barkov Likely Out Tuesday

News: Aleksander Barkov is dealing with an illness and looks set to miss Tuesday's game against the Kings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Rocco Grimaldi has already been scratched AHL San Antonio's game, suggesting he could be en route to Los Angeles to fill out the Panthers' forward ranks. Aleksander Barkov, who previously missed two contests earlier this season with a lower-body injury, has just three points and a minus-4 rating over 13 games.

Panthers' Barkov Records Assist In 4-3 Loss

News: Aleksander Barkov connected with Brian Campbell for a power play assist in the third period in Friday's shootout loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov has had a slow start to his 2014-15 campaign but he has posted two points in his last two games, which is a positive sign he could turn things around. Barkov is still being relied on to produce and he led the Panthers' forwards with just under 20 minutes of ice time Friday, including three minutes on the power play in the loss.

Panthers' Barkov Scores In Win

News: Aleksander Barkov scored his second goal of the season Tuesday in a 4-1 win over San Jose. He also added two shots and two hits.
Analysis: This is only the second point of the season for Aleksander Barkov and the goal Tuesday ended up being his first game-winner. Barkov is still centering the first line and it was his first game with new line mates, Tomas Kopecky and Scottie Upshall. Florida has been changing their lines regularly so don't expect this line to stay together for very long, but Barkov is certainly the number one center now and will be going forward this season. Watch him closely and if he can string a few games with consecutive points, he should be available on the waiver wire.

Quiet Return For Panthers' Barkov

News: Aleksander Barkov made his return from a two-game absence due to a lower-body injury on Thursday, finishing minus-2 with one shot on goal over 16:32 of ice time in a loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: While no one on the Panthers had a very good game, Aleksander Barkov's performance stuck out as particularly rough, especially his 2-for-13 performance on faceoffs. But hey, it was his first game back and he did get credited with a takeaway. At only 19 years old and on an unattractively constructed Panthers team, it's hard to project a big offensive breakout season for Barkov, but we're certainly expecting more than one point in nine games.

Panthers' Barkov Draws Back In Thursday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) will be back in the lineup Thursday against the Flyers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: As was expected after he took part fully in Wednesday's practice, Aleksander Barkov will receive clearance to play following a two-game absence. The young center was scuffling prior to suffering the injury, supplying only one goal and no assists over his first eight games. Barkov doesn't exactly have a lot of talent to work with on the top line, but he'll have to find ways to create more offense if the Panthers have visions of making the playoffs this season.

Panthers' Barkov Skates Wednesday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) was present for Wednesday's practice, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov missed his second consecutive game Tuesday with the injury, despite being considered likely to play earlier in the day following the team's morning skate. It's possible the Panthers ended up holding him out an extra day for precautionary purposes, so there's a good chance that if the young center made it through Wednesday's session without any issue, he'll reclaim his spot in the lineup Thursday versus the Flyers.

Panthers' Barkov To Miss Second Straight Game

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) isn't taking part in pregame warmups and will not suit up Tuesday against Boston, George Richards of The Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov did participate in Tuesday's morning skate, so it was generally expected that he would play against the Bruins. However, it appears the Panthers decided to exercise some precaution, ruling the center out for a second straight contest. Defenseman Colby Robak will move over to the wing to help the Panthers fill out their forward ranks.

Panthers' Barkov Will Likely Play Tuesday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) will likely play in Tuesday's game against the Bruins, George Richards of The Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov participated in Tuesday's morning skate, so he should be able to play Tuesday after missing the Panthers' last game Saturday. Expect the Panthers to make a final call on Barkov's status just before game time.

Panthers' Barkov Ruled Out Saturday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Flyers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov suffered the injury at some point during Thursday's 2-1 win over the Coyotes and hasn't resumed practicing. With Sean Bergenheim (lower body) and Brandon Pirri (concussion) also ruled out Saturday, the Panthers recalled Rocco Grimaldi and Vincent Trocheck from AHL San Antonio.

Panthers' Barkov Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: Aleksander Barkov sustained a lower-body injury Thursday against the Coyotes and didn't practice Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov ended up seeing only 13:31 of ice time in Thursday's contest -- about three minutes lower than his season average. The Panthers will reevaluate his condition at Saturday's morning skate, but if he's deemed unfit to play later that evening against the Flyers, the team could be forced to call up a forward from the AHL ranks.

Panthers' Barkov Scores First Goal Of Season

News: Aleksander Barkov scored his first goal of the season Tuesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov has had a slow start to the season, so coach Gerard Gallant decided to reunite him with Brad Boyes and Sean Bergenheim. The Killer B's line showed solid chemistry last year before Barkov's season ended early with a knee injury, so hopefully the trio can find a way to produce for the offensively challenged Panthers in 2014-15.

Panthers' Barkov Scoreless After First Three Games

News: Aleksander Barkov has yet to obtain any points this season as Florida's No. 1 center.
Analysis: The second overall selection in the 2013 draft had a solid rookie season last year, scoring 24 points in 54 games. He was anointed the top center for the Panthers this season, but has yet to hit the scoresheet in his first three games. The good news is that he'll continue to get his chances because of the lack of depth at center for the Panthers, but let's just hope this is not the beginning of a sophomore slump for the promising 19-year-old Finn.

Panthers' Barkov Unlikely To Return This Season

News: Aleksander Barkov (knee) is unlikely to return this season, Erin Brown of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was able to skate Friday, but with the Panthers well out of playoff contention, there is not much benefit to bringing him back this season. Expect Barkov to be back at 100 percent well before the next campaign kicks off.
