Panthers' Barkov Unlikely To Return This Season

News: Aleksander Barkov (knee) is unlikely to return this season, Erin Brown of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov was able to skate Friday, but with the Panthers well out of playoff contention, there is not much benefit to bringing him back this season. Expect Barkov to be back at 100 percent well before the next campaign kicks off.

Panthers' Barkov Won't Need Surgery

News: Coach Peter Horachek said that while Aleksander Barkov (knee) won't require season-ending surgery, he will remain out indefinitely, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: While the Panthers are now backing away from a definitive return date for Aleksander Barkov, the initial four-to-six week timetable that the team issued would still seem to be a good baseline for the rookie. The Panthers are expected to use Nick Bjugstad on their top line with Sean Bergenheim and Brad Boyes while Barkov remains out.

Panthers' Barkov Out 4-6 Weeks

News: Aleksander Barkov is expected to miss four-to-six weeks after he received an MRI on his ailing knee following Friday's game, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: There have been whispers that the knee injury that forced Aleksander Barkov out of the Olympics could end up costing him the rest of the NHL season, though the Panthers will undoubtedly be hopeful the projected timetable they received from the Finnish team trainer holds true. Fortunately for Barkov, it's not believed that the knee injury will require surgery, but it qualifies as a major setback for the rookie nonetheless. The 18-year-old was enjoying a respectable campaign for the Panthers, totaling eight goals and 16 assists in 54 games.

Panthers' Barkov (Knee) Out Of Olympics

News: Updating an earlier report, Aleksander Barkov suffered a knee injury and will miss the rest of the Olympics, reports CBC.ca. He was forced from Friday's game after a few shifts because of the injury.
Analysis: This is bad news for Florida -- this kid is their best player. And by a country mile. There's no word yet on what ligament was injured and that will have a bearing on the duration of Aleksander Barkov's absence once NHL play resumes.

Panthers' Barkov To Miss Rest Of Olympics

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) will miss the rest of the Olympics, Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: No specific details were given on the exact nature of the injury he suffered Friday during the game against Norway, but he won't hit the ice again during the Olympic Games. He'll have some time to heal before the NHL starts back up again, but he'll have to be re-evaluated by the team once he returns home.

Panthers' Barkov Has Rough Night In Return

News: Aleksander Barkov was a minus-2 rating in 17:50 of ice time during Saturday night's 4-1 loss to Columbus.
Analysis: It was Aleksander Barkov's first game back in the lineup after missing the past four with a lower-body injury. He will continue to play top-six minutes and see regular power-play time, but the 18-year-old rookie should be hit-or-miss in terms of production the rest of the way.

Panthers Activate Barkov

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) was activated from injured reserve and will play Saturday vs. the Blue Jackets, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov has missed the previous four games to a lower-body injury, but his return to the lineup was confirmed during the team's morning skate. Look for the 18-year-old to occupy a top-six role in his return to the lineup.

Panthers' Barkov May Not Return Saturday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) may not return for Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets, Steve Goldstein of FOX Sports Florida reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov had been on track to be activated from IR in time for Saturday's game, but now may play it safe. The next game for the Panthers is Tuesday against the Maple Leafs. His official decision will likely be made sometime Saturday before the game.

Panthers' Barkov Slated To Practice Friday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) will practice Friday and still looks on track to return Saturday vs. Columbus, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Coach Peter Horachek said Aleksander Barkov skated well on his own Wednesday and received clearance to fly with the team to Columbus. It doesn't look as though fantasy owners will have to worry about him not being available beyond Thursday's game vs. the Maple Leafs.

Panthers' Barkov Expected To Return Saturday

News: Coach Pete Horachek said he expects Aleksander Barkov (lower body) to return to the lineup Saturday vs. the Blue Jackets, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov is not yet traveling with the team and is set to miss the Panthers' two games before Saturday, but Horachek seemed confident the young forward wouldn't miss much time beyond that after X-rays previously showed no structural damage to his knee. He'll likely attempt to skate on his own back in Florida before a weekend return to the lineup is confirmed.

Panthers' Barkov Transferred To IR

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: With Aleksander Barkov not expected to be available until Saturday's game vs. Blue Jackets, the Panthers went ahead and placed him on IR retroactively to open up a roster space for Tomas Kopecky's (shoulder) return to the lineup. Barkov had missed the previous two games due to the lower-body injury.

Panthers' Barkov Likely Out Next Two Games

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) is expected to miss the next two games for the Panthers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov has already been ruled out for Tuesday's game vs. the Bruins after he was unable to travel with the team to Boston, and his status now appears in doubt for Thursday's contest vs. the Maple Leafs as well. With absences in the Panthers' previous two games already on Barkov's ledger, a move to injured reserve could be forthcoming.

Panthers' Barkov Hopes To Join Team In Boston

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) has been skating on his own and is hoping to join the team in Boston, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The leg injury will cost Aleksander Barkov a second straight game Sunday, but he'll likely join the team in Boston in hopes of suiting up Tuesday. Coach Peter Horacheck said that he'll need to see Barkov practice Monday before making any decisions.

Panthers' Barkov Will Not Travel To Detroit

News: Aleksander Barkov (leg) will not travel with the team to Detroit, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Aleksander Barkov has not practiced all week and missed Friday's game against Colorado. The 18-year-old rookie will remain day-to-day for the time being and could return to action at some point during the team's four-game road trip.

Panthers: Barkov To Sit Out Friday With Leg Strain

News: Aleksander Barkov (leg) will miss Friday night's game against the Avalanche, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: This comes as no surprise since Aleksander Barkov has been held out of practice most of the week. He is listed as day-to-day with a leg strain at this point and it is unknown when he will return to the lineup.

Panthers' Barkov Doubtful For Friday

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) is doubtful to play Friday vs. the Avalanche, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The news isn't especially surprising after Aleksander Barkov was unable to practice Thursday. The rookie has emerged as a cornerstone player for the suddenly playoff-contending Panthers, and his absence will force the Panthers to reshuffle their top six.

Panthers' Barkov Misses Practice

News: Aleksander Barkov (lower body) was not present at Thursday's practice, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete Horachek will give Aleksander Barkov some time to recover after he was forced out of Tuesday's game with the lower-body injury. The team hasn't shed much light on the extent of the ailment, so consider him questionable for Friday's game vs. the Avalanche for now.

Panthers' Barkov Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Aleksander Barkov exited Tuesday's game vs. the Sabres with a lower-body injury, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: It's not clear exactly how Aleksander Barkov sustained the injury, but he'll be held out for the rest of the night and likely reevaluated afterwards. The rookie at least managed to pick up an assist for fantasy owners before leaving.

Panthers' Barkov Extends Scoring Streak To Six

News: Aleksander Barkov registered an assist in the Panthers' 2-1 loss in Montreal, Monday night.
Analysis: With the assist, Aleksander Barkov extended his impressive point streak to six games and has 12 points in his last 11 contests. The 18-year-old Finn is now leading the Panthers in scoring and will certainly log enough ice-time and power-play time to continue his scoring pace.

Panthers' Barkov: 11 Points In Last 10 Games

News: Aleksander Barkov's point streak now stands at five games and six points (one goal, five assists) after he set up two goals in Saturday's shootout win over the Predators.
Analysis: Most impressively, he has 11 points, including eight assists, in his last 10 games ... proof positive he's already adjusting to the smaller NHL ice. Use him right now and stash him in keeper formats. He could be the next Ryan Getzlaf or even Jumbo Joe.

Barkov Busy In Panthers' Loss

News: Aleksander Barkov assisted on Florida's lone goal in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Rangers, giving him a four-game points streak and nine points over the last 10 contests.
Analysis: If you haven't seen Sasha play, the kid has serious skill and can take over the offensive zone. He's starting to find his consistency and his 19 points have been concentrated more in the last month than through the bulk of the season's 41 games.

Panthers' Barkov Putting It Together?

News: Aleksander Barkov netted the game-tying goal in the second period of Thursday's 4-2 win over Ottawa.
Analysis: For those not counting at home, Aleksander Barkov is a plus-5 with two goals and three assists during Florida's current five game winning streak. The 18-year-old winger, who has seen the most time with Brad Boyes and Sean Bergenheim, has totaled five goals and nine assists through 35 games played.

Panthers' Barkov Named First Star

News: Aleksander Barkov dished out two assists, went plus-2 and was named the game's first star Tuesday against Toronto.
Analysis: A very nice game for the second overall pick in this year's draft, but Aleksander Barkov had notched just two points in his prior 11 games. He's currently far too inconsistent to be trusted in most non-keeper fantasy formats.

Panthers' Barkov Expected To Play Saturday

News: Interim coach Pete Horachek said he expects Aleksander Barkov (lower body) to play Saturday against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The lower-body ailment that Aleksander Barkov suffered in Thursday's win over the Jets is considered minor, a fortunate development for the team's prized rookie. Barkov will presumably fill his usual second-line center role Saturday.
