Caps' Burakovsky Practices On Top Line Friday

News: Andre Burakovsky took line rushes with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom during Friday's practice, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky was a surprise healthy scratch for Washington's 4-0 victory over Pittsburgh despite registering two goals and two assists in Washington's prior three games. The rookie was replaced by Jay Beagle for that game, and Beagle was also practicing with Ovechkin and Backstrom on Friday. With Washington facing a back-to-back situation with Montreal and St. Louis this weekend, it's likely Burakovsky will draw back into the lineup in one of the next two games. However, Burakovsky's value is tied significantly to his keeping the RW spot opposite Washington's premier offensive talents. While this appears to be a short-term experiment, the situation is worth monitoring.

Caps' Burakovsky Notches Two Helpers

News: Andre Burakovsky assisted on one goal each by Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom in Tuesday's shootout loss to Edmonton.
Analysis: It pays to have star linemates. Andre Burakovsky's now found his way onto the scoresheet in consecutive games after having tallied just a single point in the prior six contests. His scoring remains inconsistent, but the long-term upside is extremely tantalizing.

Trotz: Will

News: Head coach Barry Trotz will "hold off" moving Andre Burakovsky back to the center position for the time being, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After starting the season behind Nicklas Backstrom on the team's depth chart, the 19-year-old Swede now finds himself alongside his countryman and Alex Ovechkin on the Caps' top line. While the Capitals still hope he will be able to ultimately make then transition, for now Andre Burakovsky will get an extended look as a top line winger opposite two of the game's best players. Already rewarding his coach's trust with a goal in his first game since the promotion, it's safe to own Burakovsky for the time being.

Caps' Burakovsky Nets Goal In Win

News: Andre Burakovsky scored on his only shot in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky responded well to being promoted to the team's first line, recording his fifth goal of the season and first since the end of November. After a hot start, the 19-year-old struggled throughout much of the past two months, but could gain some confidence if he continues to play alongside Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.

Caps' Burakovsky To Play With Ovie, Backstrom

News: Andre Burakovsky appears in line to play alongside Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on the top line Sunday against the Panthers, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After spending the last several games as a healthy scratch or fourth-liner for the Capitals, it's quite the promotion for Andre Burakovsky. The young Swede's numbers have tailed off since a hot start to the season, but seeing the ice with two of the game's better forwards could be exactly what he needs to regain confidence and ignite production. It's worth noting that Burakovsky will become the seventh player to man a wing spot on the Ovechkin/Backstrom line this season, so a permanent deployment may not necessarily be in store.

Burakovsky Will Rejoin Caps On Monday

News: Washington coach Barry Trotz said Saturday that Andre Burakovsky will rejoin the Capitals before Monday's game against the Senators, the Washington Post's Alex Prewitt reports.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky will only end up spending a couple of days with AHL Hershey before rejoining the big club on Monday. However, given that he was a healthy scratch in five of the last six games before his demotion, he doesn't figure to see significant playing time with the Caps.

Caps Reassign Burakovsky To AHL

News: Andre Burakovsky was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Friday, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The fact that Andre Burakovsky was dropped from the 23-man roster after he was a healthy scratch in five of the team's previous six games wasn't surprising; what was more odd was that the Capitals chose not to loan him to Team Sweden for the World Junior Championship. It does appear that coach Barry Trotz has his reasons, however, as he wants to keep Burakovsky in Hershey in the event that the Capitals require a call-up for injury purposes during the upcoming road-heavy stretch of games. While in Hershey, Burakovsky will also benefit from reclaiming top-six ice time, a luxury he hasn't been afforded since the middle of November.

Caps' Burakovsky Not Headed To World Juniors

News: Andre Burakovsky will remain with the Capitals rather than being released to join Team Sweden for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championships in Canada, The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Given his reduced ice time and recent absence from the Capitals' lineup as a healthy scratch, there was some speculation the 19-year-old Swede would be allowed to participate in the tournament, but the Capitals appear to have closed the door on that scenario. After starting the season on the second line with Troy Brouwer and Marcus Johansson, Andre Burakovsky is now playing on the left side of a line with Michael Latta and Jay Beagle. With only two goals and five points since October, Burakovsky is a reach in single-season leagues until he reclaims a role on a scoring line.

Caps' Burakovsky Returning To Lineup

News: Andre Burakovsky will return to the lineup Saturday against the Lightning, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: After watching his productivity dwindle in November, Andre Burakovsky was made a healthy scratch in each of the previous three games, with Michael Latta taking his spot in the lineup. It appears coach Barry Trotz has liked what he's seen from Latta as the fourth-line pivot, so Burakovsky will move over from his usual center spot to play left wing Saturday. He may need a strong showing in his return to the lineup in order to avoid more frequent trips to the press box.

Caps' Burakovsky A Scratch For Second Straight

News: Andre Burakovsky will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Lightning, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: It will be the second straight game Andre Burakovsky will spend in the press box, as his production has fizzled since the beginning of November. The rookie won't necessarily be a permanent fixture in the healthy scratch column, but it appears coach Barry Trotz wants to give another promising young center in Michael Latta some needed reps. Though his future remains bright, Burakovsky can probably be dropped in most single-season formats at this point.

Caps' Burakovsky Could Be Healthy Scratch Thursday

News: Andre Burakovsky could be a healthy scratch Thursday against the Hurricanes, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Due to his lack of recent production, Andre Burakovsky had been removed from the second line and dumped to the fourth line in favor of Evgeny Kuznetsov for the last several games. Burakovsky wasn't a part of the opening group of line rushes during Thursday's morning skate, putting him at risk of becoming a healthy scratch for the first time this season. The rookie sizzled in the early going with 12 points in his first 15 games, but it looks like he's hit the proverbial wall.

Caps' Burakovsky Gets Two Helpers

News: Andre Burakovsky notched a pair of assists and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's win over the Jackets.
Analysis: The rookie's certainly enjoying his run on the Caps' second line, with three goals and 11 assists over 16 games on the year. He's working out really nicely with Marcus Johansson and Troy Brouwer.

Caps' Burakovsky Pots Two Points Friday

News: Andre Burakovsky scored a goal and added an assist -- both in the second period -- of Friday's 3-2 win over the Balckhawks.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky and linemate Marcus Johansson hooked up for two goals in just under five minutes to tie the game 2-2, with each grabbing assists on each other's tally. The 19-year-old rookie is now up to an impressive 10 points in 13 games this season and should start making his way into Calder Trophy discussions if he can continue to produce at this pace.

Caps' Burakovsky Stays Hot Thursday

News: Andre Burakovsky tallied a goal in Thursday's victory over the Devils.
Analysis: With two goals and three assists in his first four NHL contests, Andre Burakovsky has performed better than the Capitals could have possibly hoped. He probably won't continue to produce at a point-per-game clip the rest of the way, but his equally impressive preseason and credentials as a former first-round pick suggest the 19-year-old may not be in line for a steep reduction in his scoring.

Caps' Burakovsky: Three-Game Point Streak

News: Andre Burakovsky had an assist in Washington's 6-5 shootout loss to San Jose on Tuesday.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky is off to a hot start, especially for a player thought to begin the year in AHL Hershey. Though assignment to the minors still remains a possibility, the 19-year-old Swede is making his case to stick at the NHL level. Consistency and faceoff troubles could pose a problem for Burakovsky in the future, as could a challenge by Evgeny Kuznetsov for the Capitals' second-line center job. But for now, the former Eerie Otter is looking the part of an NHL regular.

Caps' Burakovsky Stretches Streak To Two Games

Caps' Burakovsky Scores Goal In Debut

News: Andre Burakovsky scored the Caps' first goal of the new season in his NHL debut Thursday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: After surprisingly beating out Evgeny Kuznetsov for the second-line center job in training camp, Andre Burakovsky immediately validated coach Barry Trotz's decision, knocking home a one-timer from the slot just under seven minutes into the first period. In what the Capitals hope will be a positive omen, Burakovsky became the first Washington player to score a goal in his NHL debut since Alexander Ovechkin achieved the feat on Oct. 5, 2005. Burakovsky finished the night with a plus-1 rating and two shots on goal over 15:58 of ice time, with an additional 2:18 coming on the power play.

Caps Decide To Keep Burakovsky

News: Andre Burakovsky has made the Capitals' Opening Night roster, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Though Marcus Johansson and Evgeny Kuznetsov entered training camp as the favorites to claim the second-line center job, it appears those duties will fall to Andre Burakovsky, who wowed the team brass during practices and in this summer's prospects camp. The 2013 first-round draft pick accumulated two goals and two assists over six preseason contests, and certainly bears watching while he remains with Washington in a top-six role.

Capitals' Burakovksy Practicing On Second Line

News: Andre Burakovsky skated on the Capitals' second line between Brooks Laich and Troy Brouwer during Wednesday's practice, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports.
Analysis: The Capitals have apparently narrowed down the job of second-line center to Burakovksy and Evgeny Kuznetsov, with Kuznetsov the current favorite to win the job. Andre Burakovsky has had an impressive summer with the Capitals at various camps, and although he will be given another look for the job, the smart money would be on him being sent to the minors to get a full season of experience playing center with AHL Hershey. Still, this situation bears watching over the Capitals' final preseason games set to continue with Wednesday's match in Buffalo.

Caps' Burakovsky Scores First (Unofficial) Goal

News: Andre Burakovsky scored the only goal in the Capitals' 1-0 over Buffalo on Sunday night.
Analysis: Andre Burakovsky scored a nice wrist shot from the face-off circle, and continued to build on his impressive offseason. While Burakovsky is likely destined for AHL Hershey for the balance of the season, the 19-year-old Swede has impressed his coaches throughout the summer. With the leg injury to Tom Wilson and Burakovsky's emerging skills as a potential scoring line center, Burakovsky might be able to secure a roster spot if he keeps this level of play throughout preseason. Keep an eye on him, as Burakovsky has some burgeoning sleeper potential in single-season leagues, and is a must own in keeper leagues.
