Bolts' Drouin Quiet In Debut

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) turned in a quiet outing in his NHL debut Monday against the Oilers, attempting one shot on goal and finishing with a minus-1 rating over 16:10 of ice time.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was activated from his rehab assignment at AHL Syracuse on Sunday, but was expected to sit out Monday's game, until an injury to Alex Killorn (undisclosed) ushered the youngster into the lineup. With both Killorn and Ryan Callahan (upper body) doubtful to play Tuesday versus the Flames, Drouin will slot into the Bolts' top-six forwards for a second straight game. It shouldn't take long for the much-hyped Drouin to cement himself as a mainstay on the top two lines and the team's power play.

Lightning's Drouin Will Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will in fact play during Monday's game against the Oilers since teammate Alex Killorn (undisclosed) won't be available, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: After getting called up from the AHL on Sunday, Jonathan Drouin was originally sitting out Monday due to active player limits. However, the injury to Killorn will open things up for Drouin to get some time on the ice, albeit limited.

Bolts' Drouin Won't Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play Monday against the Oilers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was recalled from his AHL conditioning assignment Sunday and is apparently ready to get back in the lineup, but he'll watch a game from the press box first. He'll see his first NHL action later on the team's current road trip.

Lightning Recall Drouin From AHL Assignment

News: The Lightning recalled Jonathan Drouin (thumb) from his conditioning assignment with AHL Syracuse on Sunday.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was assigned to Syracuse on Thursday to give him a chance to see game action after being sidelined for a month with his thumb injury. He scored three points in two games with Syracuse, so the Lightning figured he was ready to play for the big club. It seems there is a good chance he will make his NHL debut in the Lightning's next game Monday against the Oilers.

Bolts' Drouin (Thumb) Scores Goal In AHL Debut

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) picked up the winning goal Friday night in a 3-2 win for Syracuse over Springfield in AHL action. He scored unassisted at 7:18 of the third period on a rush down the left wing and ripped the puck over the goalie's left shoulder.
Analysis: The goal was his first as a pro. He also finished plus-3 while skating on line with Cedric Paquette and Jonathan Marschessault. He's scheduled to play again Saturday night and the conditioning assignment could last up to two weeks.

Lightning Send Drouin On Conditioning Assignment

News: The Lightning sent Jonathan Drouin (thumb) on a conditioning assignment with AHL Syracuse on Thursday, Michelle Gingras of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin can spend a maximum of two weeks with Syracuse before the Lightning need to make a decision on his status. It's not clear how much AHL action he will need before the Lightning deem him ready, but he will have a chance to make his NHL debut before the end of October.

Bolts' Drouin Expected To Need Conditioning Stint

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) is expected to require a two-week conditioning stint at AHL Syracuse before the Lightning bring him onto their roster, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin appeared to be closing in on his season debut after returning to practice last week, but it seems receiving clearance for contact has been a major roadblock in his recovery. The Lightning are expected to decide on Drouin's fate after Thursday's practice, but with the young forward having not appeared in any games since Sept. 18, it may make sense for the team to send him to Syracuse, where he can be eased back into action without as much fanfare.

Lightning's Drouin Not Yet Cleared For Contact

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) has not yet been cleared for contact, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was able to skate and take faceoffs following Tuesday's morning skate, but he will miss another game Tuesday night. He does continue to make progress, however, so his NHL debut may not be far off.

Bolts' Drouin Not Expected To Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) is not expected to play in Monday's game against the Canadiens, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was the third overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but has yet to make his professional debut due to a lingering thumb injury. Once he's cleared, the 19-year-old is expected to start the season with the Lightning, although he could spend time in the AHL as well.

Lightning's Drouin Out Until Tuesday At Earliest

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play Saturday against the Senators, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Jonathan Drouin still not fully healed from his thumb injury, coach Jon Cooper will stick with the same lineup he used in Thursday's opener. However, Drouin appears to be making progress in his recovery, so there's a good possibility that he makes his NHL debut next week, perhaps as early as Tuesday.

Lightning's Drouin Limited In Friday's Practice

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) practiced again Thursday, but didn't take part in all of the team's line drills, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: While it's encouraging to see Jonathan Drouin back on the ice again while absorbing full contact, his absence from line drills suggests he might not be ready to go for Saturday's game against the Senators. We'll find out official word on his status at Saturday's morning skate.

Lightning's Drouin Out For Opener

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play in Thursday's season opener against the Panthers, The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin is still feeling soreness when shooting the puck, so he will not be in the lineup for Thursday's season debut. Drouin has not ruled out for any action beyond Thursday, but he Lightning play three games in five days following their debut contest, so Drouin could miss several more games if his thumb does not improve soon.

Bolts' Drouin Practices Wednesday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) practiced again Wednesday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin wasn't taking regular line shifts and was sporting a different colored jersey than his teammates, so it still appears unlikely that he'll be able to suit up for Thursday's opener against the Panthers. That being said, he appears to be recovering far quicker than the Bolts anticipated, perhaps putting him on track for a return to action in the team's second game Saturday against Ottawa.

Bolts' Drouin Close To Return

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) is on the ice for Monday morning's skate, participating in drills and doing a lot of shooting, reports Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis: He's still in the red, no-contact jersey, but the shooting is a great sign -- that's the last piece of healing before he's ready to return to the team. The opener might not be a huge stretch after all, but it's more likely he'll be ready for the weekend.

Bolts' Drouin (Thumb): Ready For Start Of Season?

News: Jonathan Drouin could be ready for the regular-season opener after follow-up X-rays on his fractured thumb showed the healing is progressing well, according to Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman.
Analysis: It sounds like he'll be ready shortly after opening night if he can't skate that game. The Bolts were expected to send him down to the minors for game conditioning, but there's no word on that option right now. He might just be ready to roll.

Bolts Could Move Drouin To IR

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) could be placed on injured reserve to open the season, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin seems likely to miss beyond the seven-day minimum for an IR stint after fracturing his thumb in training camp, so it shouldn't be surprising that the Bolts are already entertaining the idea of stashing him there to create roster room. Once he gets closer to full health, he could take part in some rehab games at AHL Syracuse, but it's clear that Tampa Bay is pegging him for a top-six role upon his return. Even with the expected missed time, Drouin is worth drafting in just about any format.

Bolts' Drouin Practicing Without Contact

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) was on the ice in a non-contact jersey Tuesday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: That he's on the ice in any capacity is certainly a good sign in his recovery. The current expectation is that Jonathan Drouin will miss at least the first week of the regular season as a result of the injury which is believed to have been suffered earlier this month.

Lightning's Drouin Out 3-4 Weeks

News: Jonathan Drouin will miss three-to-four weeks while recovering from a fractured thumb, the Tampa Tribune's Erik Erlendsson reports.
Analysis: The team expressed optimism regarding the injury over the weekend, with Jonathan Drouin originally expected to be back on the ice sometime this week. That won't be the case, however, as it now appears Drouin will miss the first week of the regular season.

Bolts Send Drouin (Upper Body) For More Tests

News: Jonathan Drouin (upper body) as shown little improvement in his injury over the last week and has been sent for further testing, reports Eric Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: Expect him to miss the rest of the week as a result. We're a little worried about the lack of progress -- fingers crossed there's no surgery in his future. Jonathan Drouin is expected to play an integral role with the Bolts this season.

Bolts' Drouin Out With Minor Upper-Body Injury

News: Jonathan Drouin was held out of practice Saturday and will miss Sunday's scrimmage due to an upper-body injury, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "This is not a long-term thing," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Saturday. "By no means is this serious. He'll for sure be back (this) week at some point."
Analysis: Cooper indicated that Jonathan Drouin got "nicked up a bit" in a freak injury during rookie camp which opened Sept. 11. Drouin will return to action this week and be able to play in an exhibition match. The injury shouldn't impact his ability to make the team out of camp.

Bolts' Prospect Drouin Impressing Veteran Players

News: Jonathan Drouin heads into camp in tremendous shape and he is already impressing veteran Lightning players during informal workouts, reports the Tampa Bay Times. "Physically, he looks bigger, stronger," said team captain Steven Stamkos. "Skating looks great, shot looks great. And he always had the smarts and quickness and playmaking ability ... he looks great out there."
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin is out to show the team that he has grown up over the course of the past year after he was sent to juniors after last year's camp. "Last year didn't work out the way I wanted it to, but this year is a different story," Drouin said. "I want to be on this club. I'm a step closer than I was last year. I'm way more tested, I've got to push hard. It's going to be a month full of work." Prospect camp started Thursday for the Bolts and Drouin will be front-and-center in that competition after busting it in training six days a week since the start of July. He's a Calder favorite already.
