Bolts' Drouin Scores In Loss

News: Jonathan Drouin scored a power-play goal in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin has been fighting for playing time lately, and could still ultimately be released to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. It's an encouraging sign to see the 19-year-old find the back of the net, albeit for just the second time this season, and though he hasn't been great in general, the winger does have three points in his last five contests.

Will Bolts Release Drouin For World Juniors?

News: Jonathan Drouin, who was a healthy scratch Tuesday for the fourth time in the last 12 games, could still be released to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. The Lightning have until December 19 to make a decision.
Analysis: The Rangers released Anthony Duclair to Team Canada on Tuesday, so the odds may be improving for Jonathan Drouin to get the same treatment ... especially with all the healthy scratches of late. Two weeks ago, he was described as a long shot for Canada.

Bolts' Drouin A Scratch Again

News: Jonathan Drouin will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Capitals, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Despite recording an assist in each of his last two games, Jonathan Drouin will have to head to the press box as the Bolts continue to rotate him and J.T. Brown in and out of the lineup. It's the fourth time Drouin has been a healthy scratch this season, making him a difficult player to own in daily formats given his ever-changing lineup status.

Bolts' Scratch Drouin For Third Time

News: Jonathan Drouin wasn't present on the ice for pregame warmups and looks to be a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Sabres, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: It's the third time that Jonathan Drouin has been a healthy scratch in his brief career. The 19-year-old has one goal and eight assists over 19 career games.

Bolts' Drouin A Scratch Again

News: Jonathan Drouin will be a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Rangers, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: It will be the second scratch in the past two weeks for Jonathan Drouin, who hasn't been helped by the Bolts' vast collection of talent at forward. Despite remaining relatively productive during his time with the Lightning with nine points in 16 games, Drouin may have to rotate in and out of the lineup with Vladislav Namestnikov and Cedric Paquette on a fairly consistent basis.

Bolts' Drouin A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Jonathan Drouin will be a healthy scratch Saturday, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: There were whispers prior to Thursday's game against the Sharks that Jonathan Drouin could be headed to the press box, but that never ended up materializing. However, after a rather invisible effort in the loss to San Jose, it appears coach Jon Cooper is following through with the plan to scratch Drouin this time, as the young forward didn't take the ice for warmups. Cedric Paquette will replace him in the lineup, but don't expect Drouin, who entered the season as arguably the top prospect in the NHL, to sit out with any regularity.

Bolts' Drouin To Stay In Lineup

News: Jonathan Drouin was on the ice for pregame warmups and looks set to remain in the Tampa lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: There was speculation that Jonathan Drouin would be scratched Thursday due to the impending return of Alex Killorn from an injury, but it looks like Cedric Paquette will instead draw out of the lineup. Drouin hasn't seen much action in the Bolts' top six of late, but he's still contributed a very respectable one goal and seven assists over 11 games.

Lightning's Drouin Could Sit Thursday

News: Jonathan Drouin may be a healthy scratch Thursday night, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin has tallied four assists in four games since Nov. 6, but the Lightning are in need of a lineup spot with Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn returning from injuries. The rookie was one of the last skaters off the ice Thursday morning, so it appears he could be held out Thursday night. A final call on Thursday's lineup will be made just before pregame warmups.

Bolts' Drouin Tallies Two Assists

News: Jonathan Drouin collected two assists in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin has noticed a decline in his ice time in recent games, but that's probably more attributable to the stellar play of several of the team's other depth forwards rather than poor play on his part. Despite his limited role, Drouin has still managed to produce five points in eight games. He could find his way back into the Bolts' top-six forwards once regression sets in for the likes of Nikita Kucherov or Tyler Johnson.

Bolts' Drouin Gets Assist

News: Jonathan Drouin picked up an assist and finished plus-2 in a win over Calgary on Thursday. He has two assists in his last three games.
Analysis: He does have five points, including a goal, in his last seven games. But he remains on one of the Bolts' lower lines so he can ease into NHL life. He has a great fantasy future, but his single-year value will remain muted until he can move up the lines.

Bolts' Drouin Dropped To Fourth Line

News: Jonathan Drouin has been dropped to the fourth line, reports the Tampa Bay Times. The move is designed to take "... a little bit of pressure off him."
Analysis: The team has no intention of fast tracking him and there are plenty of other players who deserve ice time in the top six. "I don't know too many people who jump into the league at 19 (years old) and are playing 22 minutes a night, it just doesn't really happen, added Bolts' coach Jon Cooper. "Jo is an ultra-talent, he's a really good player, but he has to learn to play away from the puck just like everybody else has to."

Bolts' Drouin Scores First NHL Goal

News: Jonathan Drouin scored his first NHL goal and had an assist in Friday's win over Winnipeg.
Analysis: You better believe it folks, this kid is the real deal. Jonathan Drouin set up Steven Stamkos for a goal in the first period, before scoring one of his own in the middle frame. If Drouin continues to skate with Stamkos on the top line and first power-play unit, there is no ceiling on what the 19-year-old can achieve in 2014-15. He has the Calder Trophy written all over him.

Bolts' Drouin Picks Up First NHL Point

News: Jonathan Drouin picked up his first NHL point Tuesday versus the Flames, garnering a secondary assist on Valtteri Filppula's game-tying goal late in the third period.
Analysis: The assist came when Jonathan Drouin tracked down a puck in the corner, then sent it cross-ice to Jason Garrison, who fired off a slapshot that Filppula knocked in on a rebound. The 19-year-old, who was on track to play Opening Night before suffering a fractured thumb, skated primarily with Filppula and Steven Stamkos in his 19:57 of ice time.

Bolts' Drouin Quiet In Debut

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) turned in a quiet outing in his NHL debut Monday against the Oilers, attempting one shot on goal and finishing with a minus-1 rating over 16:10 of ice time.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was activated from his rehab assignment at AHL Syracuse on Sunday, but was expected to sit out Monday's game, until an injury to Alex Killorn (undisclosed) ushered the youngster into the lineup. With both Killorn and Ryan Callahan (upper body) doubtful to play Tuesday versus the Flames, Drouin will slot into the Bolts' top-six forwards for a second straight game. It shouldn't take long for the much-hyped Drouin to cement himself as a mainstay on the top two lines and the team's power play.

Lightning's Drouin Will Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will in fact play during Monday's game against the Oilers since teammate Alex Killorn (undisclosed) won't be available, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: After getting called up from the AHL on Sunday, Jonathan Drouin was originally sitting out Monday due to active player limits. However, the injury to Killorn will open things up for Drouin to get some time on the ice, albeit limited.

Bolts' Drouin Won't Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play Monday against the Oilers, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was recalled from his AHL conditioning assignment Sunday and is apparently ready to get back in the lineup, but he'll watch a game from the press box first. He'll see his first NHL action later on the team's current road trip.

Lightning Recall Drouin From AHL Assignment

News: The Lightning recalled Jonathan Drouin (thumb) from his conditioning assignment with AHL Syracuse on Sunday.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was assigned to Syracuse on Thursday to give him a chance to see game action after being sidelined for a month with his thumb injury. He scored three points in two games with Syracuse, so the Lightning figured he was ready to play for the big club. It seems there is a good chance he will make his NHL debut in the Lightning's next game Monday against the Oilers.

Bolts' Drouin (Thumb) Scores Goal In AHL Debut

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) picked up the winning goal Friday night in a 3-2 win for Syracuse over Springfield in AHL action. He scored unassisted at 7:18 of the third period on a rush down the left wing and ripped the puck over the goalie's left shoulder.
Analysis: The goal was his first as a pro. He also finished plus-3 while skating on line with Cedric Paquette and Jonathan Marschessault. He's scheduled to play again Saturday night and the conditioning assignment could last up to two weeks.

Lightning Send Drouin On Conditioning Assignment

News: The Lightning sent Jonathan Drouin (thumb) on a conditioning assignment with AHL Syracuse on Thursday, Michelle Gingras of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin can spend a maximum of two weeks with Syracuse before the Lightning need to make a decision on his status. It's not clear how much AHL action he will need before the Lightning deem him ready, but he will have a chance to make his NHL debut before the end of October.

Bolts' Drouin Expected To Need Conditioning Stint

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) is expected to require a two-week conditioning stint at AHL Syracuse before the Lightning bring him onto their roster, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin appeared to be closing in on his season debut after returning to practice last week, but it seems receiving clearance for contact has been a major roadblock in his recovery. The Lightning are expected to decide on Drouin's fate after Thursday's practice, but with the young forward having not appeared in any games since Sept. 18, it may make sense for the team to send him to Syracuse, where he can be eased back into action without as much fanfare.

Lightning's Drouin Not Yet Cleared For Contact

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) has not yet been cleared for contact, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was able to skate and take faceoffs following Tuesday's morning skate, but he will miss another game Tuesday night. He does continue to make progress, however, so his NHL debut may not be far off.

Bolts' Drouin Not Expected To Play Monday

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) is not expected to play in Monday's game against the Canadiens, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin was the third overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but has yet to make his professional debut due to a lingering thumb injury. Once he's cleared, the 19-year-old is expected to start the season with the Lightning, although he could spend time in the AHL as well.

Lightning's Drouin Out Until Tuesday At Earliest

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play Saturday against the Senators, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Jonathan Drouin still not fully healed from his thumb injury, coach Jon Cooper will stick with the same lineup he used in Thursday's opener. However, Drouin appears to be making progress in his recovery, so there's a good possibility that he makes his NHL debut next week, perhaps as early as Tuesday.

Lightning's Drouin Limited In Friday's Practice

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) practiced again Thursday, but didn't take part in all of the team's line drills, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: While it's encouraging to see Jonathan Drouin back on the ice again while absorbing full contact, his absence from line drills suggests he might not be ready to go for Saturday's game against the Senators. We'll find out official word on his status at Saturday's morning skate.

Lightning's Drouin Out For Opener

News: Jonathan Drouin (thumb) will not play in Thursday's season opener against the Panthers, The Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Drouin is still feeling soreness when shooting the puck, so he will not be in the lineup for Thursday's season debut. Drouin has not ruled out for any action beyond Thursday, but he Lightning play three games in five days following their debut contest, so Drouin could miss several more games if his thumb does not improve soon.
