Lindholm Signs Two-Year Extension With Hurricanes

News: Elias Lindholm signed a two-year, $5.4 million contract extension with the Hurricanes on Thursday.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm was a solid contributor in his first full NHL season in 2014-15, registering 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) in 81 games with the team. He will return to his role as a top-six forward with Carolina this season, and should have a great shot at improving upon his offensive numbers from a year ago as he continues his development as an NHL forward.

Canes' Lindholm Dropped To Third Line

News: Elias Lindholm failed to register a point during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Detroit. He was also a minus-2 for the second consecutive game.
Analysis: Sure, Elias Lindholm is going through a bit of a rough patch right now, but overall it hasn't been a bad season for the 20-year-old Swede. With 39 points in 79 games, Lindholm currently sits third on the team in scoring, behind Eric Staal and Justin Faulk, and has a good chance of cracking the 40-point mark in his first full season. As he matures, Lindholm should develop into a solid top-six NHL forward with plenty of value in medium to deeper fantasy formats. Don't overlook him in the middle to late rounds of your drafts next year.

Canes' Lindholm Claims Goal In Defeat

News: Elias Lindholm kicked off the scoring Saturday with a first-period tally, but the Rangers came back to claim a 3-2 shootout victory over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Those who hoped Elias Lindholm's three-goal, five-point performance two weeks ago was a harbinger of things to come have probably been disappointed. While Lindholm hasn't completely fallen off the map with two goals and an assist in his seven games since, his fantasy value lies very much in the future rather than this current talent-bereft version of the Hurricanes. At just 20 years old, it might take a while before Lindholm fulfills the annual 60-point production that might be his destiny.

Canes' Lindholm Explodes For Five Points In Win

News: Elias Lindholm had a career-performance, netting a hat trick on just three shots and adding two assists in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: An absolutely incredible outing for Elias Lindholm, who had recorded only one multi-point effort since Nov. 2. The five-point game propels the 20-year-old's total to 32 points on the season, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect this type of showing again anytime soon. Lindholm has shown flashes of his potential, so he could be worthy of consideration in deeper or keeper formats.

Canes' Lindholm Earns Power-Play Assist

News: Elias Lindholm was credited with a power-play assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: The 20-year-old is five points ahead of his mark in the same amount of games (58) from a season earlier, but it's not anything that should be regarded as a breakout. Elias Lindholm remains largely off the radar outside of deeper formats, but he still looks like a promising asset in keeper leagues. Over time, it's possible he'll develop into an annual 50-to-60 point threat.

Canes' Lindholm Hits 10 Goals With PP Tally

News: Elias Lindholm scored a power-play goal and added an assist in Saturday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm has now hit the 10-goal mark for the first time in his career. Playing in his second NHL season, the 20-year-old has 23 points in 51 games, including four power-play goals and four game-winners. With five points in his last six games, the second-liner is a rising fantasy player who's worth looking at in deeper formats.

Canes' Linholm To Rejoin Lineup

News: Elias Lindholm will rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Ducks, Mike Maniscalco of 999 the Fan reports.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm was a surprising healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Rangers, but he'll rejoin the lineup in short order.

Canes To Scratch Lindholm On Saturday

News: Elias Lindholm will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Alexander Semin will come on to take Elias Lindholm's spot in the lineup. The demotion to the press box is a bit surprising for Lindholm, who has registered points in two of his last three games. It likely amounts to just a one-time lineup decision in an effort to give the 20-year-old a breather.

Canes' Lindholm Assists In Win Over Avs

News: Elias Lindholm registered an assist and had five shots on goal during Tuesday's shootout win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm now has 18 points in 43 games this season, and will surely surpass the 21 points he posted as a rookie last season. He continues to skate on the Canes' top line with the Staal brothers (Eric and Jordan) and offers modest fantasy value in deeper formats.

Scoring Pace Slowing For Carolina's Lindholm

News: Elias Lindholm gathered an assist and attempted five shots in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Even with the recent return of Jordan Staal (leg) to the Hurricanes' top six, the team is still woefully short on offensive firepower, much to the detriment of Elias Lindholm. The 20-year-old carried the team's attack in the early part of November, but has been rather invisible since then. He's mustered only seven points over his last 22 games.

Canes' Lindholm Could Be Switching To Center

News: Elias Lindholm, who has been playing right wing on the Canes' top line with Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner, may be moved to center, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Following a 2-1 loss to New Jersey on Monday, the struggling Canes are now winless in their last three games, with the top line of Skinner, Staal and Elias Lindholm having gone pointless over that stretch. By switching Lindholm to center and Staal to the wing, coach Bill Peters is no doubt trying to mix things up and create some chemistry. Lindholm is a natural center, so the move should not take much getting used to. Hopefully it results in a few more points on the board, both for the team and for fantasy owners alike.

Canes' Lindholm Will Play Saturday

News: Elias Lindholm (foot) will play Saturday against the Bruins.
Analysis: The injury prevented Elias Lindholm from practicing Friday, but it won't prevent the red-hot sophomore winger from suiting up Saturday. Lindholm has been tremendous in November after a slow start to the season, producing six goals and two assists over seven contests.

Hurricanes' Lindholm Dealing With Foot Injury

News: Elias Lindholm did not take part in Friday's practice due to a foot injury, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: It's not exactly clear what type of injury Elias Lindholm is dealing with, so it remains to be seen if it will threaten his availability for the Hurricanes' next game Saturday. Carolina figures to provide an update on Lindholm's status after he is reevaluated Saturday.

Hot Streak Rages On For Canes' Lindholm

News: Elias Lindholm potted the Hurricanes' only goal in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: The second-year forward has simply been sizzling for the Hurricanes of late, as Thursday's power-play tally marked his sixth time in the last seven games that he's provided at least a point. Elias Lindholm's offensive surge figures to lock him into a second-line role until further notice.

Lindholm Plays Overtime Hero For Surging Canes

News: Elias Lindholm netted the overtime-winning goal Friday against Columbus.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm has been red-hot as of late, compiling four goals and six points in his last four games. He is tied for the NHL lead with three game-winning goals, and is a big reason why the Hurricanes have won four straight games. Skating on the second line, the 21-year-old should easily surpass the career-high nine goals and 21 points he recorded as a rookie in 2013-14.

Canes' Lindholm Adds Two More Points

News: Elias Lindholm picked up two more points with a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm now has multiple points in consecutive games after Saturday's two goal effort. He has just one other point on the year though, coming in the season opener, and skating with a team largely lacking talent he probably won't get too many point opportunities.

Canes' Lindholm Nets First Two Goals Of Season

News: Elias Lindholm netted his first two goals of the season in Saturday's win over Arizona.
Analysis: Elias Lindholm only has three points in nine games this season to go with a minus-4 rating. Skating on the second line with Riley Nash and Nathan Gerbe, Lindholm isn't exactly playing with the best offensive players. The 2013 first-round draft pick possess a superior skill set, though, and he should surpass the career-high nine goals and 21 points he recorded in 2013-14.

Canes' Lindholm Struggling On Offense

News: Elias Lindholm has just a single assist through five games so far this season, along with a minus-2 rating and five shots on goal.
Analysis: It's been a disappointing start for Elias Lindholm, who was promoted to a top-six role this year after registering 21 points in 58 games last season. That said, Lindholm hasn't had much help, as the banged-up Canes have thus far been dealing with an assortment of injuries to the likes of Eric Staal (upper body), Jordan Staal (broken leg) and Jeff Skinner (concussion). Now that Skinner is back in the lineup and skating on the second line with Lindholm, hopefully things will turn around soon for the talented young Swede. Feel free to deply him as you normally would, however it's worth noting that Lindholm is currently worth much more in keeper leauges compared to single-season formats.

Canes' Lindholm To Practice Tuesday

News: Elias Lindholm (foot) has been diagnosed with a bruise and is expected to rejoin his teammates for practice Tuesday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: All signs here point to Elias Lindholm being ready to roll when the Hurricanes host the Islanders in their season opener Friday.

Possible Foot Injury For Canes' Lindholm

News: Elias Lindholm left Sunday's preseason game against Washington after blocking a shot with his foot, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: There was no immediate update on Elias Lindholm following the game, so hopefully this is an indication that he did not suffer any serious injury on the play. Consider him day-to-day for now until more information becomes available.

Canes' Lindholm Pots Three In Win Over Sabres

News: Elias Lindholm registered a hat trick in Friday's 5-1 preseason win over the Sabres.
Analysis: After a fine training camp and preseason, it looks like the 19-year-old Elias Lindholm has secured himself a spot on the Canes' second line alongside Jeff Skinner and rookie Victor Rask. He's worth a late-round sleeper selection in most fantasy formats.

Canes Prefer To Keep Lindholm On Wing

News: Updating a previous report, the Canes are more in favor of keeping Elias Lindholm on the wing, instead of moving him to the No. 2 center spot in place of the injured Jordan Staal, according to Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: While Elias Lindholm may still see some time at the center position, the Canes feel moving him there full time will leave them weaker on the wings, where they have even fewer options. The plan instead - at least initially - will be to move third-line center Riley Nash into Staal's spot on the second line, and also give rookie Victor Rask a look anchoring the third unit.

Canes' Lindholm Shifting From Wing To Center

News: Elias Lindholm will likely be shifted from wing to center, filling in for Jordan Staal who suffered a broken leg during a preseason game Tuesday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: So far in training camp, Elias Lindholm had been skating on the Canes' top line with Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner, so a move down to the second line would certainly have a negative impact on Lindholm's fantasy value to start the season. Hopefully, the team finds another option for the No. 2 center position between now and opening night, allowing Lindholm to shift back up to the top line. Monitor carefully.
