Flames' Monahan Slated To Play in Game 1

News: Sean Monahan, who did not practice Monday and left the ice after 10 minutes on Tuesday, is slated to play Wednesday against the Canucks.
Analysis: "That was part of our plan," coach Bob Hartley said of Sean Monahan, who notched 31 goals and 62 points in 81 games this season. "He's been playing tons of hockey and we want to make sure that he's as rested as he can be. That was set right from the start." Supporting that notion is that Monahan skated on the Flames' top line during Wednesday's pre-game skate, between Jiri Hudler and Johnny Gaudreau.

Flames' Monahan Leads The Way Saturday

News: Sean Monahan paced the Calgary attack with a power-play goal and an even-strength assist in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Though the final outcome wasn't what the Flames were looking for, Sean Monahan still managed to capture first-star honors for the afternoon after giving him team an early lead with his 29th tally of the season. Great things were expected from Monahan after he was drafted sixth overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but few probably thought he would become such a dominant player this early in his career. The 20-year-old's 54 points rank third on the team, and probably only represent the floor for his production when he hits his prime in the next few seasons.

He's also got four assists for 11 points during that span and is carrying the Flames' offense right now as they scratch and claw their way into a playoff spot. Flames' Monahan Tacks On Late Points

News: Sean Monahan picked up an assist and an empty-net goal in the final 4:02 of Thursday's 4-1 win over the Coyotes.

He'd gone four straight without a point before busting out with these late-game points, and inconsistency has dogged Monahan since the start of December.

The fact that the 2013 sixth-overall pick's 25 points are good for fifth on the team is a testament to how far Calgary has come this season. Also, Monahan's 99 SOG lead the team and have him just outside the league's top 50 (53) in that department, which is especially impressive since he threw just 140 pucks on net last year in 36 more games.

Analysis: The scoring pace has slowed for the 20-year-old in recent weeks with the Flames suffering a long losing streak, but Sean Monahan still has a respectable 23 points in 38 games. News: Sean Monahan recorded his 11th goal of the campaign in a 4-3 loss to the Sabres on Thursday.
Analysis: There hasn't been a sophomore slump for the talented 20-year-old, as he has 20 points in 30 games and is on pace for a 30-goal season. He is one of the burgeoning stars in the league, and should be good for a long time.
