Sharks' Mueller Still Recovering From Broken Thumb

News: Mirco Mueller (thumb) won't be available to play for Switzerland in May's World Championships, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The fractured thumb prevented Mirco Mueller from playing in the Sharks' final eight games, and though the regular season has been over for more than two weeks now, the blueliner still hasn't quite recovered yet. The Sharks expect the 19-year-old to be ready to play by training camp.

Sharks Mueller Likely Done For Season

News: Mirco Mueller (thumb) appears done for the season, Curtis Pashelka of San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The 20-year-old Mirco Mueller, who last suited up on March 26, thus appears set to finish his first season with the Sharks with four points and 10 PIM in 39 games.

Sharks Now Ruling Mueller Out Indefinitely

News: Mirco Mueller was ruled out indefinitely Friday with a left hand injury, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller was initially listed as day-to-day after hurting his thumb while blocking a shot in Thursday's game against the Red Wings, but it appears after further evaluation, the injury was deemed more serious. Coach Todd McLellan was unwilling to concede that Mueller would miss the remainder of the season, but with only eight games left on the schedule and the rookie quite possibly dealing with some sort of fracture, a return wouldn't seem especially promising. Matt Irwin is slated to replace Mueller in the Sharks' lineup.

Sharks' Mueller Day-To-Day With Injured Thumb

News: Mirco Mueller missed most of the third period Thursday after blocking a shot due to an injured thumb, David Pollok of the San Jose Mercury News reports. He was sporting an arm sling following the game and is currently considered day-to-day.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller tallied an assist in the first period of the contest, giving him his fourth point of the season. His status for Saturday's game seems up in the air at this point, but the Sharks should provide an update on his status at some point prior to Saturday's game against the Flyers.

SJ's Mueller An Inconsistent Fantasy Option

News: Mirco Mueller has been getting inconsistent ice time and hasn't produced well when the time is there. He is without a point in his last 29 games.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller is a rookie and expectations should not have been high going into the season, but he's been underwhelming even considering the low expectations. He has been getting good ice time when he's in the lineup and should continue to with the Sharks outside the playoff picture and focused on the future. Nonetheless, he's been held without a shot in eight of the last 10 games.

Mueller Returns To Sharks

News: The Sharks recalled Mirco Mueller from AHL Worcester on Tuesday.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller, who notched one goal and four penalty minutes in three games with Worcester while on a conditioning assignment, has recorded three points and eight PIM in 24 games with San Jose to date.

Sharks' Mueller (Wrist) Activated From IR

News: Mirco Mueller (wrist) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday and assigned to AHL Worcester for a conditioning assignment.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller hasn't played since returning from the World Junior Championships, but his activation signals a return to the lineup after the All-Star break. He'll likely spend the next week in the minors to get back up to full speed before rejoining the Sharks.

Sharks' Mueller Nursing Wrist Injury

News: Mirco Mueller's upper-body injury is related to his wrist, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: The wrist was apparently bothering Mirco Mueller even before he took part in the World Junior Championships with Switzerland, so it sounds like the Sharks just wanted to give him a chance to rest up before an activation is considered. The team doesn't believe the issue is serious.

Sharks Place Mueller (Upper Body) On IR

News: Mirco Mueller (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller hadn't played in any games since rejoining the Sharks following the World Junior Championships, so he must have acquired the injury in practice or at some point during the WJC. The team should provide an update on his condition in the coming days. His move to IR allows the Sharks to activate Joe Thornton (shoulder) for Saturday's game.

Sharks' Mueller Returns From World Juniors

News: Mirco Mueller rejoined the Sharks on Monday following the conclusion of the World Junior Championships.
Analysis: He didn't end up suiting up for the Sharks in Monday's win over the Jets and isn't expected to play Tuesday against the Wild, either. It's likely more for rest purposes than anything after Mirco Mueller logged big minutes for Switzerland in the tournament, but he should find his way back in the San Jose lineup in the near future.

Sharks' Mueller To Participate In World Juniors

News: Mirco Mueller is expected to leave the Sharks in the coming days to play for Team Sweden in the World Junior Championships, CSN Bay Area's Kevin Kurz reports.
Analysis: The tournament will run from Dec. 26 through Jan. 5, so look for Mirco Mueller to return to the Sharks at the end of the competition or when his team is eliminated. The 19-year-old has been a healthy scratch in six of the Sharks' last nine games, so he'll likely benefit from picking up more regular ice time during the tournament.

Mueller Back in Sharks Lineup

News: Mirco Mueller logged 12:20 of ice time in Sunday's loss to Edmonton, registering two penalty minutes, two blocked shots, and two hits.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller was scratched for four straight games prior to Sunday night when he got the nod. Mueller probably isn't worth a roster spot until he's producing, seeing more ice time, and a sure thing to be on the ice every night.

Mueller A Minus-3 For Sharks On Sunday

News: Mirco Mueller logged a minus-3 rating and a single shot in Sunday's loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller is without a point over the last four games and is a minus-3 over the last five. Being paired with Brent Burns, who leads NHL defenseman in goals and is second in points, could pay dividends, but it hasn't yet.

Mueller Blocks Six Shots In Sharks' Win

News: Mirco Mueller blocked six shots and played a season-high 24:58 in Saturday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller has had some very strong play over the last three games. He logged a season-high TOI, registered his first NHL goal, blocked six shots Saturday, and has been showing real improvement since being a healthy scratch.

Sharks' Mueller Earns First NHL Goal

News: Mirco Mueller opened the scoring Thursday against the Wild with his first goal in the NHL, but also went minus-1 in what turned out to be a 4-3 shootout loss.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller threw the puck toward the net at a sharp angle, and it ended up beating Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper. The 19-year-old Mueller has pedigree as last year's No. 18 overall pick, but his offensive game remains a work in progress and he's only seeing third-pairing minutes for the Sharks right now.

Sharks Will Scratch Mueller Again

News: Mirco Mueller will again be a scratch Thursday against the Blue Jackets, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.
Analysis: That means Mirco Mueller will be out of the lineup for the third time in the team's first eight games. Many have speculated that Mueller could be headed to the WHL soon to get more ice time, but coach Todd McLellan has resisted that temptation, saying that the defenseman is "not going anywhere."

Sharks To Scratch Mueller Again Tuesday

News: Mirco Mueller will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Bruins, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: It will be the second time in a week that Mirco Mueller will serve as a healthy scratch for the Sharks. The team has been generally pleased with how the rookie has played in his first five games of NHL action, though he hasn't generated much offense (one assist, four shots on goal) to go along with his strong defensive statistics (five hits, 11 blocked shots). However, given the team's recent willingness to send Mueller to the press box, there's a real possibility the 19-year-old could be shipped to the minors if the trend continues in the games to come.

Sharks' Mueller Gets First Point

News: Mirco Mueller picked up his first NHL point on Thursday, assisting on Brent Burns' second-period goal in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Isles.
Analysis: The No. 18 pick in 2013, Mirco Mueller hasn't shown a ton of offense yet, but he's just 19 years old and has plenty of developing to do. For now, we'll just be happy that the Swiss blueliner got on the board.

Sharks' Mueller To Sit Out Tuesday

News: Mirco Mueller will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Capitals, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: The 19-year-old has posted a plus-2 rating and averaged 19:24 of ice time while playing in the Sharks' first two games, but he'll give way to Matt Irwin on Thursday. However, because Mirco Mueller has generally held up well in his first taste of NHL action, it doesn't seem likely that Irwin will regularly displace him in the lineup.

Mueller Makes Sharks Roster

News: After a few cuts on Monday, it appears clear that Mirco Mueller will be on the Sharks opening night roster, according to CSN Bay Area.
Analysis: Mirco Mueller is a very exciting prospect. He may not be draft-worthy at this point, but he's worth keeping an eye on for an early season waiver grab.
