Canucks' Shinkaruk Scores Twice In AHL Friday

News: Hunter Shinkaruk scored two goals in Utica's (AHL) 4-3 win over Chicago on Friday.
Analysis: Hunter Shinkaruk now has four goals and seven points in his first 15 games for Utica. Those numbers are going to have to improve substantially for Shinkaruk to become an effective player at the NHL level. He's a poor skater and offers virtually nothing on the defensive end, so if he isn't putting up big offensive numbers, he isn't helping his team much. He's expected to spend the entire season at the AHL level.

Canucks Assign Shinkaruk To AHL

News: Hunter Shinkaruk was assigned to AHL Utica on Friday.
Analysis: Hunter Shinkaruk may be a future top-six forward for the Canucks, but it won't be his time just yet, even after a standout training camp. After finishing off a sensational junior career, Shinkaruk will test himself at the professional level.

Canucks' Shinkaruk Dominating Preseason

News: Hunter Shinkaruk scored for the second straight game and added an assist in Thursday's preseason win over Calgary.
Analysis: Hunter Shinkaruk has impressed in two exhibition games so far, netting two goals and two assists. If he keeps up this play, it's hard not to see the 19-year-old cracking the Canucks' roster this season. It may only be preseason, but this kid is on a roll and showing no signs of slowing down.

Canucks' Shinkaruk Strikes Against Sharks

News: Hunter Shinkaruk recorded a goal and an assist en route to earning first star honors in Tuesday's preseason win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Hunter Shinkaruk scored his goal by battling hard in front of the net and putting a loose puck past Sharks' goalie Alex Stalock. Shinkaruk has a realistic shot of sticking with the Canucks this season, but will need to continue playing like he did Tuesday night. If he keeps creating offense, Shinkaruk could steal a Canucks' roster spot in 2014-2015.

Canucks' Shinkaruk Strikes In Penticton

News: Hunter Shinkaruk scored twice in Sunday's 5-4 OT loss to the Jets in the Young Stars Classic tournament.
Analysis: Hunter Shinkaruk was credited with a game-high eight shots on goal, and now has three points (two goals, one assist) in two tournament games. The 19-year-old tallied his second goal of the game with just 39 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the game at four and sending it to overtime. Shinkaruk will need to keep up this level of play if he hopes to make the Canucks' roster out of training camp.

Canucks' Shinkaruk Aims To Shine In Penticton

News: Hunter Shinkaruk expects to be one of the best players, if not the best player, partaking in the Canucks Young Stars Classic tournament, TSN 1040's Jeff Paterson reports.
Analysis: The tournament will take place September 12-15 in Penticton, BC and will feature a number of notable NHL prospects from the Canucks, Flames, Oilers and Jets. 19-year-old Hunter Shinkaruk is yet to play a game with the Canucks, but impressed in a preseason stint last season, scoring two goals. The youngster was sent back to the WHL in 2013-2014, and was on pace for another great season before suffering a season-ending hip injury that required surgery. Deemed healthy, Shinkaruk will need to impress in training camp and preseason to earn a spot on the Canucks' roster this upcoming campaign.
