Jackets' Wennberg Productive Since Return

News: Alexander Wennberg was credited with an assist in Monday's overtime loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: In his four games back from a hand infection, Alexander Wennberg has three assists, seven shots on goal, and a plus-2 rating. He's still a few years away from hitting his peak fantasy value, but he's closing what has been a mostly quiet rookie season on a high note. Wennberg has three goals and 19 points on the campaign for the Jackets.

Blue Jackets' Wennberg Set To Return

News: Alexander Wennberg (infected hand) is on track to play Tuesday against New Jersey.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg, who has been medically cleared to play, worked on a line with Scott Hartnell and Marko Dano at Tuesday's morning skate, indicating that he's in line to suit up for the team's evening tilt. Prior to being sidelined, Wennberg had notched five points over his past four games.

Blue Jackets' Wennberg Nears Return

News: Alexander Wennberg (hand) practiced fully Monday.
Analysis: Wenneberg, who has missed the last four games with an infection of his hand, skated with Scott Hartnell and Marko Dano at Monday's practice, and thus appears to have a shot to suit up as soon as Tuesday's game against New Jersey.

Blue Jackets' Wennberg Still Out

News: Alexander Wennberg (hand) will not travel with the Blue Jackets for their two-game road trip over the weekend.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg has since returned to Columbus after he was briefly required to remain in Vancouver upon sustaining a hand infection in a game last week against the Canucks, but it's not clear when his return to the lineup might come. He'll miss his third and fourth consecutive games due to the infection.

Jackets' Wennberg (Hand) Out Tuesday

News: Alexander Wennberg (hand) isn't expected to play on Tuesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Look for Alexander Wennberg to return to action on Friday in Chicago instead.

Jackets' Wennberg (Hand) Returning To Columbus

News: Alexander Wennberg (hand) has been cleared to leave Vancouver and is returning to Columbus, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg has been suffering from a hand infection, and was stuck in Vancouver because of it. The issue appears to have subsided enough for him to rejoin the team in Columbus. His next chance to return will come Tuesday against the Ducks, but his status for the contest appears questionable at best.

Jackets' Wennberg Dealing With Hand Infection

News: Alexander Wennberg was diagnosed with a hand infection Friday and will be unavailable for at least a couple of days, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The infection stemmed from a cut Alexander Wennberg sustained on his hand recently that required stitches. After he showed serious swelling on the hand Friday morning, doctors determined that the forward couldn't risk playing Saturday against the Flames and possibly spreading the infection to others. As a result, he'll stay in Vancouver, where the Blue Jackets played on Thursday, as he waits to receive clearance from doctors to rejoin the team. Boone Jenner (back) and Jeremy Morin (accelerated heart rate) were activated from injured reserve Friday and will help fill the void left by Wennberg's absence.

Two-Point Evening For Jackets' Wennberg

News: Alexander Wennberg picked up an assist, an empty-net goal and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 6-2 rout of the Canucks.
Analysis: He's been running warm of late, with five points in his last four games and a plus-6 rating to boot, but fantasy owners outside of very deep leagues shouldn't count on Alexander Wennberg to provide consistent offense right now. Still, the 14th overall pick in 2013 clearly is highly talented, and at just 20 years old, he's got a bright future in the league.

Jackets' Wennberg Picks Up Two Assists

News: Alexander Wennberg collected two assists in Friday's win over Edmonton.
Analysis: The 20-year-old now has two goals and 13 points in 58 games in his first NHL season. While he has potential, his current bottom-six role and minus-28 rating make him unappealing in most fantasy formats. He's one to keep an eye on, though.

Jackets' Wennberg Prepared To Play Tuesday

News: Alexander Wennberg (undisclosed) is set to play Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg was held out of Monday's practice after coach Todd Richards said the forward was still "banged up" following the past Saturday's loss to the Avalanche. It appears the maintenance day was all he needed to nurse himself back to full health, as Wennberg was a full participant during Tuesday's morning skate. Look for him to center the Jackets' third line alongside Scott Hartnell and Marko Dano during the game.

Jackets' Wennberg Questionable For Tuesday

News: Alexander Wennberg is dealing with an undisclosed injury and is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg's issue sounds more like a collective of injuries built up over time. His status for Tuesday's contest has come into doubt, but it should be updated at some point prior to the opening face-off Tuesday.

Jackets' Wennberg Tallies Two Assists

News: Alexander Wennberg picked up a pair of assists -- one on a power play, the other on an empty-netter -- Tuesday in a win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: He'd gone seven straight games without a point, so this was a nice bust-out for the young pivot. Alexander Wennberg has a ton of long-term upside, but at just 20 years old, he's only starting to learn his way around the NHL.

Jackets' Wennberg Gets Second

News: Alexander Wennberg scored his second goal of the season in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg showed great patience in waiting for a shot to bounce off the crossbar before he tapped the puck off his stick and into the net. Unfortunately, he hasn't found himself near the crease very often this season, nor has he thrived as a setup man, providing only four assists in 37 games. The 20-year-old is probably better served in the minors, but the Jackets' rash of injuries at forward has made him a lineup mainstay for most of the season.

Jackets' Wennberg Nets First Career Goal

News: Alexander Wennberg notched his first career goal, coming on the power-play, but finished with a minus-3 rating in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg also fired off four shots on net and skated for 15:44 as he added his fourth point of the season. The 20-year-old was recalled from the AHL on Friday, but will likely just be with the NHL team for as long as Brian Gibbons (upper body) is out.

Blue Jackets Recall Wennberg From AHL Springfield

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Alexander Wennberg from AHL Springfield on Friday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg will return to Columbus to take the place of Brian Gibbons (upper body), who will miss the next 2-to-3 weeks. Wennberg tallied three assists and posted a minus-14 rating in 21 games with the Blue Jackets earlier this season.

Blue Jackets Assign Wennberg To AHL

News: The Blue Jackets assigned Weinberg to AHL Springfield on Saturday, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg has seen limited ice time the last two games, and the Blue Jackets ultimately decided to shake things up, sending him down and recalling fellow forwards Kerby Rychel and Michael Chaput.

Jackets' Wennberg Notches Assist Tuesday

News: Alexander Wennberg picked up a power play assist in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Senators.
Analysis: The rookie has some ugly numbers to begin the season, including a minus-8 rating in eight games, but with the Blue Jackets now down six of their projected top nine forwards due to a plague of injuries, Alexander Wennberg will be asked to shoulder a significant role over the next week or two. He could provide a short term boost to your lineup in deeper leagues.

Jackets Recall Wennberg

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Wenneberg from AHL Springfield on Monday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg was just sent down to the AHL on Sunday, but he'll return to fill a roster spot as Matt Calvert (undisclosed) heads to IR.

Jackets Assign Wennberg To AHL Springfield

News: The Blue Jackets assigned Alexander Wennberg to AHL Springfield on Sunday.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg made the Blue Jackets opening night roster and was eventually able to move up to Columbus' second line due to various injuries on the team. Wennberg is making way for Ryan Murray who was taken off injured reserve on Sunday. In seven games played, Wennberg only managed one assist and a minus-7 rating.

Jackets' Wennberg Shifts To Center

News: Alexander Wennberg will center the Blue Jackets' second line on Thursday, skating between Matt Calvert and Cam Atkinson, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The rookie, who has just one assist and a minus-6 rating through five games, had been working on the wing, but Jackets coach Todd Richards is using the club's West Coast swing as an opportunity to shake up his forward lines. Hopefully, playing his natural position will light a spark under Alexander Wennberg.

Jackets' Wennberg Notches Assist In NHL Debut

News: Alexander Wennberg assisted on Artem Anisimov's third period goal Thursday as the Blue Jackets won their season opener 3-1 in Buffalo.
Analysis: Anisimov's goal came at even strength, but Alexander Wennberg saw nearly four minutes of power play time as well. The rookie will have a long leash given all the Jackets' injuries, but at least through one game Wennberg looks right at home.

Wennberg Cracks Jackets' Final Roster

News: Alexander Wennberg has made the Blue Jackets' Opening Night roster.
Analysis: With all of Boone Jenner, Nathan Horton, Brandon Dubinsky and Brian Gibbons opening the season on injured reserve, room was made for both 2013 first-round picks Alexander Wennberg and Marko Dano to both crack the roster. It will be tough to get a read on whether Wennberg will play the center or the wing until Ryan Johansen arrives in Columbus, but expect the Blue Jackets to support the youngster with two of their more capable forwards.

Jackets' Wennberg Adds Two More Assists

News: Skating between Cam Atkinson and Matt Calvert on Wednesday, Alexander Wennberg picked up two assists in a 6-3 preseason win over the Hurricanes, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He's making it very hard for the Blue Jackets to send him to AHL Springfield, but with Ryan Johansen (contract dispute), Nathan Horton (back) and Boone Jenner (hand) all currently sidelined the club has plenty of vacancies to fill on its forward lines.

Jackets' Wennberg Picks Up Power-Play Assist

News: Alexander Wennberg assisted on Brian Gibbons' power-play goal in Saturday's 2-1 preseason loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Alexander Wennberg led all Blue Jackets forwards in special teams ice time, with over two minutes on the power play and an even three minutes shorthanded. He hasn't won a roster spot yet, but the club is clearly giving him every opportunity to do so.

Jackets' Wennberg Already Impressing

News: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards was very impressed with his initial look at Alexander Wennberg during the first day of training camp, the Columbus Dispatch reports. "To me, he was at a level above a lot of guys that were (at the Traverse City prospect tournament), which says a lot, because there is some good talent up there," Richards said Friday. "You watch him out here and he fits right in. It's the first day (with) lots of energy, lots of excitement. But he comes across as a ‘headsy' player."
Analysis: Ryan Johansen's contract dispute could open up a spot at center in Columbus on one of the top three lines if it extends into the regular season, and the Jackets would love to see Alexander Wennberg step up and seize it. There's a lot of camp left yet, and the club has plenty of depth with NHL experience to compete with their prospects, but last year's 14th overall pick has the talent, hockey IQ and drive to force the Jackets' hand.
