Zadorov Returns For Sabres

News: Nikita Zadorov, who was scratched the previous four games due to both a team-imposed suspension and coaching decisions, returned to action Saturday for Buffalo's 5-3 loss to the Panthers. He logged an assist and 15:09 of ice time, including 3:14 on the power play.
Analysis: Apparently, Nikita Zadorov has proved to coach Ted Nolan he's figured out how to work an alarm clock and as long as the 19-year-old keeps showing up on time, should continue to stay in the lineup as the team gives him valuable experience in a lost season. The youngster has eight points in the last 10 games he's played, so he's starting to merit attention in certain formats.

Sabres' Zadorov Could Return Saturday

News: Nikita Zadorov, a healthy scratch Thursday, saw teammate Mark Pysyk get demoted to the AHL on Friday, which could pave the way for Zadorov's return, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov was going to return to the lineup sooner or later, but that it came at the expense of Pysyk was the huge surprise. Regardless, the move also shows how much the Sabres want Zadorov to play, as he is expected to be one of the team's top defensemen in the future. Zadorov skated with Andrej Meszaros in practice Friday.

Sabres Scratch Zadorov Against Canucks

News: Nikita Zadorov will be a healthy scratch Thursday against Vancouver, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov has finished serving his team-imposed, two-game suspension for being late to a meeting, but head coach Ted Nolan has been happy with how the defense has been playing and will keep Zadorov out of the lineup. Mark Pysyk has been particularly impressive in limited showings and will remain active, while the surprise return of Mike Weber (upper body) will close off another potential opening for the young defenseman. Zadorov won't sit for too long because the Sabres want him to play and gain experience, but the team has played well recently, and you don't fix what isn't broken.

Sabres' Zadorov Poised To Return To Lineup

News: Nikita Zadorov is poised to return to the lineup Thursday against the Canucks, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov had sat out the last three games -- two as part of a team-mandated suspension. However, with Wednesday's demotion of Jake McCabe to AHL Rochester and Mike Weber (upper body) and Tyson Strachan (infection) still on the mend, an opening should exist for Zadorov to play Thursday. The 19-year-old has three goals and 13 points in 42 games this season.

Sabres' Zadorov To Serve As A Healthy Scratch

News: Nikita Zadorov will serve as a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov did take part in pregame warmups, so it would seem that he's no longer being placed under suspension by the Sabres. The defenseman's immaturity has irked the organization on multiple occasions this season, but he's still been one of the team's more productive blueliners, notching three goals and 10 assists over 42 games.

Sabres' Zadorov Feels Tardy

News: Zadarov was suspended by the team for Sunday's shootout loss to Nashville because he was late for the morning team meeting after his alarm clock didn't go off. Coach Ted Nolan has not decided whether Nikita Zadorov will skate Tuesday against Columbus, The Buffalo News reports. Said Nolan, "The defense last game, I thought they all played pretty well, so to make a change just to make a change, I don't think we'll do that."
Analysis: Translation: "We had this happen last month when you missed a flight, so you'll play again when I say you're good and ready to play again." The Sabres are in the middle of a lost season, and while Nikita Zadorov has been playing strong lately with seven points in his last nine games and has profusely apologized to the team for the transgressions, the team probably considers getting the player on the right mental track more important. We wouldn't be surprised if the 19-year-old blueliner sits for one more game.

Sabres' Zadorov Suspended For Sunday

News: Coach Ted Nolan indicated Nikita Zadorov will miss Sunday's game against the Predators "for team reasons".
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov has had some issues with the team in the past, and it appears they are popping up once again. "We had a number of discussions, and then another thing happened this morning. We'll just talk to him again," said coach Nolan. It's unclear how long he will sit, but he will leave the Sabres another man short along the blue line Sunday, with Mike Weber (upper body), Tyson Strachan (illness) and Josh Gorges (lower body) also unavailable. Mark Pysyk and Jake McCabe have been recalled from AHL Rochester and will figure into the lineup at some point.

Sabres' Zadorov Sits Out

News: Nikita Zadorov was a healthy scratch Friday against the Rangers, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov scored a goal and played over 21 minutes against Philadelphia but averaged a little over 15 minutes in his next two games. Head coach Ted Nolan says Zadorov looked overwhelmed and instead inserted veteran Tyson Strachan into the lineup. Even with Josh Gorges (lower body) and Mike Weber (upper body) likely out for the season, Nolan will continue to be careful deploying Zadorov, who will end up sitting as a healthy scratch a few more games the rest of the year. Zadorov's upside is huge, but he won't realize it this season. If he sits, expect Strachan to take his place.

Sabres' Zadorov Scores Lone Goal In Loss

News: Nikita Zadorov scored a power-play goal in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov has 13 points on the season, but more than half of those have come in his last six contests. It's tough to rack up too many points working on the blueline in Buffalo, but the 19-year-old could be worthy of consideration in deeper formats and should continue to increase his stock for fantasy owners in future seasons.

Sabres' Zadorov Assists Again In Win

News: Nikita Zadorov picked up an assist and fired off two shot attempts in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov drew the ire of the Sabres for his late arrival after the All-Star break and was a healthy scratch just a game earlier, but he still might be the top fantasy blueliner on the Buffalo roster. In the last four games he's played, Zadorov has recorded five assists, giving him nearly half of his point total (11) for the season. The 19-year-old will still carry much more value in dynasty formats, but he still might be worth a cursory look in deeper single-season leagues, too.

Sabres Scratch Zadorov Thursday

News: Nikita Zadorov will sit as a healthy scratch Thursday against St. Louis, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: It's those notorious "bad habits" again. Head coach Ted Nolan will be sitting the young but promising Russian defenseman, who played just 13:39 against Montreal on Tuesday despite being featured on the team's first power-play unit. Don't expect Nikita Zadorov to sit for too long. There's a huge learning curve when it comes to playing defense in the NHL and he's learning as he goes along. Zadorov has 10 points in 36 games with a minus-13 rating, but his fantasy value should grow in the coming seasons.

Sabres' Zadorov Points In Return To Lineup

News: Nikita Zadorov contributed a power-play assist in his return to the lineup Friday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov had served as a healthy scratch the previous two games after failing to report to the Sabres in a timely fashion following the All-Star break. It appears all has been forgiven at this point, which should make Zadorov a lineup mainstay in the subsequent contests to come. The young blueliner has two goals, seven assists and a minus-13 rating over 35 games this season.

Sabres' Zadorov Out Thursday

News: Nikita Zadorov will not play Thursday against the Oilers, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov, whose suspension was lifted by the Sabres earlier in the day, will be held out Thursday, as the team feels he may not be ready to play after experiencing travel issues over the All-Star break and only logging one practice since. While he won't play Thursday, he'll "more than likely" return Saturday in Vancouver.

Zadorov Back With Sabres

News: Nikita Zadorov's suspension has been lifted by the Sabres.
Analysis: Per the Buffalo News, Nikita Zadorov was bumped off an oversold flight from the Dominican Republic and thus did not make it back to Buffalo in a timely fashion following the NHL All-Star break. Now that he is back with the team, and reinstated, the blueliner is a candidate to return to the Sabres' lineup Thursday against the Oilers.

Sabres' Zadorov To Join Team In Calgary

News: Nikita Zadorov will join the Sabres in Calgary for Tuesday's game and will have his team-imposed suspension lifted once he arrives, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: While it looks like all is forgiven after Nikita Zadorov didn't report back to the Sabres in time following the All-Star break, it still seems likely that he'll sit out Tuesday's game as a healthy scratch. It sounds like Zadorov simply had a issue with his flight rather than neglecting to return on time, but because he's previously irked the Sabres with his lack of maturity, the team was less understanding about his absence. Look for him to rejoin the lineup before the Sabres' road trip draws to a conclusion.

Zadorov Suspended By Sabres

News: The Sabres have suspended Nikita Zadorov for failing to report to the team on time following the NHL All-Star break, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov, who has eight points in 34 games to date, shouldn't be out of commission too long, though. GM Tim Murray indicated that he expects the blueliner (who missed Monday's practice) to rejoin the team "at some point during this week's western road trip."

Sabres' Zadorov Picks Up Two Assists

News: Nikita Zadorov collected two assists and dished out four hits in Sunday's loss to Detroit.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov now has two goals and eight points in 34 games, to go with a minus-11 rating. Averaging 19:29 of ice time, the 19-year-old has made some nice defensive contributions this season, recording 78 hits and 40 blocked shots. While he has great potential, Sunday marked just Zadorov's second multi-point effort of the season and his first points in seven games. He's got some value in some very deep leagues right now, but he will need to develop more before we can recommend him in most formats.

Sabres' Zadorov To Sit And Think

News: Nikita Zadorov will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game Tuesday when the Sabres host the Red Wings, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov's game has faltered a little when he's not paired with Rasmus Ristolainen and he was made a healthy scratch after an ill-advised pinch led to a shorthanded goal by Travis Zajac. In general, Zadorov has made a good impression in his first full season with the Sabres, but he's only 19 and he's slipped of late, so the team wants him to watch and regroup. We don't think he'll be out much longer, but he'll get a second straight night off for this one. The 2013 first-rounder has six points though 31 games to go with 68 hits and 37 blocks.

Sabres' Zadorov May Be Staying

News: Nikita Zadorov, who has been selected to play for Russia at the World Junior Championships at the end of December, may be staying with the Sabres now that the team has injuries to the blue line, The Buffalo News reports. Said the young blueliner on Saturday, "I'm playing here. With 'Webby' out, what's the reason that you would send me? I love my country and the chance to play for them. But I think it's better for me to play in the best league in the world, so why send me somewhere? It's better to play in the big time here and help my team win every game."
Analysis: Give the Sabres credit for being willing to at least consider letting Nikita Zadorov get some experience playing for his homeland, but with Tyson Strachan day-to-day and Mike Weber out for a few weeks, he's now much more needed in Buffalo compared to just a few days ago.

Sabers Might Allow Zadorov To Play For Homeland

News: The Sabres may be willing to give Nikita Zadorov some time off in order to play for Russia at the world junior championships, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov has earned a regular spot on the Buffalo blue line, but the Sabres are playing for the future and realize the experience their promising youngster would get in a leading role during the tournament may not be a bad thing. Zadorov only has one point in 17 games, but his plus-3 rating is pretty incredible for such a young player on a team where only three guys are in the black.

Sabres' Zadorov Sticking Around

News: Nikita Zadorov will stay with the Sabres for the foreseeable future, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan said Nikita Zadorov has "earned his keep" and will remain with the Sabres past the nine-game mark after Zadorov plays against the Sharks on Tuesday. The saga has finally come to a conclusion as Zadorov spent the first part of the month wondering where he would play for the season. With Josh Gorges (lower body) out of the lineup, Zadorov has stepped in and played in seven straight games. Though he has tons of potential, he's off the fantasy radar given his inexperience, potentially inconsistent playing time and the Sabres' mediocrity in general.

Sabres' Zadorov Seeing Regular Ice

News: Nikita Zadorov is set to play his fifth straight game Tuesday when the Sabres take on the Blues, The Buffalo News reports. He's expected to continue pairing with Rasmus Ristolainen.
Analysis: Nikita Zadorov, the 16th pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, found himself in the press box a number of times at the start of the season, but he's getting some much-needed experience now. Playing with the equally promising Ristolainen seems to be a good move, as this team is going nowhere this season. We still don't know whether the Sabres plan on keeping Zadorov in Buffalo all season, but at least he's getting some run lately instead of wasting away in a suit.

Sabres' Zadorov Still In Limbo

News: Nikita Zadorov's future is still being determined with no timeline, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: General manager Tim Murray said he still hasn't come to a decision regarding the 19-year-old Russian defenseman. Nikita Zadorov made his only appearance of the season against the Kings and played a little over six minutes as the team's seventh defenseman. Murray said the decision could be Saturday or could be three weeks, even though the OHL's London Knights are calling "every day." Zadorov doesn't have a release from his KHL team and the Sabres don't want him to develop in a league so far away with so little control.

Sabres' Zadorov Game-Time Decision Tuesday

News: Nikita Zadorov is considered a game-time decision Tuesday against Toronto, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan said Nikita Zadorov's situation is "day-to-day" and felt he played well in his only appearance this season against the Kings, despite playing just a little over six minutes. Zadorov's future is still TBD at the moment - the OHL is still an option, but it's believed that the KHL is also interested in his services.

Sabres Will Sit Zadorov On Saturday

News: Nikita Zadorov will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Sharks, reports Paul Hamilton from WGR Sports Radio 550.
Analysis: The Sabres will go with the traditional six-man defensive corps against the Sharks after dressing seven defensemen in a 2-0 loss against the Kings on Thursday. Sam Reinhart will draw in for Nikita Zadorov, who played a little over six minutes against the Kings. The big Russian defenseman's future is in limbo at the moment as the Sabres try to decide what to do with him. They cannot send him to the AHL due to his age, so he will remain with Buffalo for the time being.
