Devils' Merrill (Arm) Will Not Play Tuesday

News: Devils' coach Pete DeBoer has confirmed that Jon Merrill (arm) will not play in Tuesday's game against the Jets, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill has been out since Nov. 4 with the arm injury but has been skating with the team at practice so expect him to return to action soon. The 22-year-old defenseman has scored one goal and three assists in 11 games played this season.

Devils' Merrill Starting To Skate

News: Jon Merrill (arm/hand) has resumed skating on his own, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill still isn't ready to practice quite yet, so a return for either of the Devils' two games this weekend doesn't appear to be in the cards. He's been out since Nov. 4 with the arm injury.

Devils' Merrill (Arm/Hand) Won't Play Monday

News: Jon Merrill (arm/hand) won't play Monday against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill didn't participate in practice and now has been confirmed as out. He could return Tuesday at home, but the team would likely want him to practice before returning to game action.

Devils' Merrill (Arm/Hand) Not Practicing Sunday

News: Jon Merrill (arm/hand) didn't practice with the team Sunday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill was placed on injured reserve Thursday which guaranteed his absence from Thursday's and Friday's games. He would be eligible to return Monday, but it appears his status is cloudy on that front as well.

Devils Move Merrill To IR

News: Jon Merrill (arm) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill had been ruled out from playing in the Devils' upcoming road games against the Blues and Red Wings, so the team just decided to move him to IR to open up a roster spot for another player temporarily. The Devils will be able to stash Merrill on IR retroactively to Nov. 1, which will allow him to be activated in time for Monday's game against the Bruins if he's ready to go.

Devils' Merrill Ruled Out For Next Two Games

News: Jon Merrill (arm) will not travel with the Devils for their next two games, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill was held out of Tuesday's loss to the Blues after suffering a slash to his arm in the Devils' previous game over the weekend. The defensemen wasn't diagnosed with any structural damage following an X-ray, but he is still dealing with enough soreness to prevent him from playing at full health. General manager Lou Lamoriello said Merrill has resumed skating, but hasn't been cleared yet to shoot the puck. Eric Gelinas will likely be called upon to take Merrill's spot in the lineup for the next two contests.

Devils' Merrill Out With Injury Tuesday

News: Jon Merrill will be held out of Tuesday's lineup with an undisclosed injury, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: It's not known if Jon Merrill sustained the ailment at some point during Saturday's win over the Blue Jackets or in a practice over the last couple of days, but more details should emerge on his condition in the near future. Eric Gelinas will reenter the lineup in his stead, joining Adam Larsson on the Devils' third pairing.

Devils' Merrill Scores First

News: Jon Merrill scored his first goal of the year Tuesday against the Rangers, a power-play tally that gave the Devils a 3-1 lead at the time in an eventual 4-3 overtime loss.
Analysis: Jon Merrill's posted three points in the first six games of the year, which may not sound extraordinarily exciting, but he's got pedigree as a 2010 second-round pick and produced noteworthy offense during his brief time in the AHL. He's worth a speculative add.

News: Mitchell (head) is ready to return to game action, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.

Merrill Practicing For Devils

News: Jon Merrill (head) practiced with a group of players not suiting up for Sunday evening's preseason game against Philadelphia, according to The Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: This is Jon Merrill's first practice since colliding with teammate Ruslan Fedotenko. The Devils have noted that they will not expose Merrill in preseason contests, adding that he should be ready to go when the puck drops on the regular season.

Devils' Merrill: Injury A Non-Issue

News: Jon Merrill (head) is fully expected to be ready to play once the regular season starts, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The Devils are still labeling Jon Merrill day-to-day for precautionary purposes, after he collided with a teammate during practice last weekend. Coach Pete DeBoer acknowledged Merrill would be skating with the team if this were the regular season, which would seem to suggest the injury is a non-issue. The 22-year-old is ticketed for a full-time role with the Devils this season after an impressive showing as a rookie.

News: Jon Merrill (head) will resume workouts either Monday or Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Jon Merrill collided with Ruslan Fedotenko Sunday, but head coach Peter DeBoer said the defenseman is already feeling better, and should continue working out again soon. He'll continue to progress, and should be ready to go for the start of the regular season.

Merrill To Sit Monday For Devils

News: Jon Merrill (head) will not play Monday against the Rangers in the Devils' preseason opener after suffering a slight head injury Saturday.
Analysis: Jon Merrill collided with Ruslan Fedotenko on Saturday and appeared woozy. He will not play Monday simply as a precaution and will likely be limited in the coming week.

Devils' Merrill Misses Practice With Head Injury

News: Jon Merrill missed the second day of Devils' training camp on Saturday due to a head injury he suffered after colliding with teammate Ruslan Fedotenko during Friday's practice, Rich Chere of NJ.com reports.
Analysis: Luckily for Jon Merrill, the Devils' first regular season game isn't until October 9. While head injuries are never a good thing, the promising young defender should have ample time to get healthy before the regular season kicks off.
