Preds Reassign Mazanec

News: Marek Mazanec was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Friday, Nick Cole of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Someone had to go to the minors after Devan Dubnyk was acquired from the Oilers on Wednesday, and the choice ended up being the younger Marek Mazanec over Carter Hutton. Mazanec had a run of success in November before regressing badly thereafter. An extended stay in Milwaukee should help him regain some confidence.

Predators' Mazanec Lets In Four In Loss

News: Marek Mazanec gave up four goals on 23 shots in a loss to the Wild on Sunday.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec has lost four of his last five starts, and he gave up four goals in three of those games. He also only has a .902 save percentage on the year.

Preds' Mazanec Expected To Start Saturday

News: Marek Mazanec was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and looks set to start Saturday vs. the Senators, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec's fabulous November in which he earned NHL Rookie of the Month honors seems like a distant memory at this point, as the goalie his an ugly 3-5-3 with a .871 save percentage since Dec. 3. Look for coach Barry Trotz to rest Mazanec on Sunday against the Wild in favor of Carter Hutton for the second game of the weekend back-to-back.

Preds' Mazanec: 20 Saves In SO Loss

News: Marek Mazanec made 20 saves in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Senators.
Analysis: He'd gotten off to a bit clumsy start to 2014, going 1-1-2 and allowing 13 goals in four games prior to Saturday night, so a one-goal effort is a nice change. Unfortunately, he seems to have a hard time following up a good performance with another, so he's a risky activation at any point.

Preds' Mazanec Scuffles Thursday

News: Marek Mazanec stopped 24 of 28 shots to lose by a 4-3 count Thursday vs. the Ducks.
Analysis: With just three wins over his last 14 appearances, Marek Mazanec isn't inspiring much confidence for the Predators or the fantasy owners relying on him. The only thing that seems to be working in Mazanec's favor is the continued struggles of teammate Carter Hutton. In shallower formats, it might be best to just avoid the Predators' goalie situation in its entirety until Pekka Rinne (hip) returns from IR, or until one of the healthy goalies shows some level of competence.

Preds' Mazanec Gets Nod Thursday

News: Marek Mazanec will be in goal Thursday against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec did well to hold the Sharks to just two goals on 28 shot attempts in Tuesday's win, but he could be hard-pressed to duplicate that effort against the Ducks, who have won nine of their past 10 contests. He'll go up against fellow rookie netminder Frederik Andersen, who has been exceptional in limited duty this season.

Preds' Mazanec Fights Off Sharks

News: Marek Mazanec stopped 26 of 28 shots in Tuesday's win over the Sharks -- his first victory of 2014.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec had allowed seven goals over the course of two overtime losses to start the new year, but this time, he came away with the win against a powerful Sharks offense. Looking on the brightest of all sides, Mazanec hasn't lost a start in regulation since Dec. 7. However, he's posted save marks under .900 in five of the eight games in that span, putting the lie to his 3-1-2 record.

Preds' Mazanec In Net Tuesday

News: Marek Mazanec will start between the pipes in Tuesday's game against the Sharks, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec has had back-to-back decisions turn into overtime losses. He is 7-8-3 this season with a .904 save percentage and 2.82 GAA. With a high-powered offense in the Sharks on the other end of the ice, he will have a tough matchup Tuesday.

Preds' Mazanec Lets In Four In Loss

News: Marek Mazanec let in four goals on 29 shot attempts in Saturday's shootout loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec appeared to have no shot at gathering even a point with the Panthers leading 4-2 with just under six minutes to play, but the Predators rallied for two late goals to send the game to overtime. The goalie would ultimately fall in the sixth-round shootout to take his second consecutive overtime loss. After the exhausting defeat, look for backup Carter Hutton to man the net Sunday vs. the Hurricanes.

Preds' Mazanec Gets Starting Nod Saturday

News: Marek Mazanec will start in goal Saturday against the Panthers, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: This makes four consecutive starts for Marek Mazanec who appears to have wrestled the starting job away from fellow backup Carter Hutton, at least for the time being. However, he is batting below .500 on the season thus far with a 7-8-2 record, and his peripheral stats (2.77 GAA, .906 save percentage) are mediocre at best. Start him only if you have no other fantasy goalie options at your disposal.

Predators' Mazanec Loses In Overtime

News: Marek Mazanec made 22 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to Boston on Thursday.
Analysis: The loss snapped a two-game wining streak for Marek Mazanec, who has now fallen to 7-8-2 on the season. He played well against the Atlantic Division-leading Bruins though, helping his team collect a point in the loss. His play has improved lately after a brutal start to the month of December.

Preds' Mazanec Starting Thursday

News: Marek Mazanec will start in goal Thursday against the Bruins, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: After struggling mightily to begin December, Marek Mazanec came out on top in his final two starts of the month. The 22-year-old will look to keep the momentum going into 2014, though he faces a tough road matchup against the Atlantic Division-leading Bruins.

Predators' Mazanec Stops 21 In Win

News: Marek Mazanec made 21 saves on 25 shots in a win over the Red Wings on Monday.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec has a .907 save percentage and a 2.76 GAA on the season. Neither he nor Carter Hutton has stepped up to replace Pekka Rinne, and neither is providing much fantasy value so far.

Predators Turn To Mazanec On Saturday

News: Marek Mazanec will be the starter in the net Saturday vs. the Kings, Stu Grimson of the Predators Radio Network reports.
Analysis: The reeling Carter Hutton submitted another unimpressive showing in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Stars and will take a seat as Marek Mazanec makes his return to the crease. Things have gone downhill for Mazanec since the calendar flipped to December, but Hutton's struggles have re-opened the door for him, at least temporarily.

Predators' Mazanec Gives Up Four In Relief

News: Marek Mazanec gave up four goals on 29 shots in relief of Carter Hutton in a 6-2 loss to Boston on Monday.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec has now lost his past four starts and has given up 16 goals in that span. With Pekka Rinne out with a hip injury, the Predators need Hutton and Mazanec to step up their games.

Predators Start Mazanec On Saturday

News: Marek Mazanec will start in net for the Pradators on Saturday, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec gets a reward here after his 19-save relief appearance from Thursday. Prior to that, he had given up 12 goals over three starts and was pulled in one of them. He is currently 5-7-1 with a 2.44 GAA and .919 save percentage over 15 games (13 starts).

Predators' Mazanec Plays Well In Relief

News: Marek Mazanec didn't allow a goal on 19 shots in relief of Carter Hutton on Thursday.
Analysis: Hutton's cold play Thursday and Marek Mazanec's hot play could lead one to believe he will get the next chance to start in goal for Nashville.

Preds' Mazanec Back At Practice

News: Marek Mazanec (illness) returned to practice Wednesday, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec was feeling under the weather Tuesday, and missed that night's game against the Blackhawks because of it. Considering that Magnus Hellberg was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee Wednesday as well, it's safe to assume that Mazanec will be available Thursday against the Lightning.

Preds' Mazanec Feeling Ill

News: Marek Mazanec missed Tuesday's morning skate with an illness and won't be available for the team's game against the Blackhawks, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: The Predators recalled Magnus Hellberg from AHL Milwaukee on an emergency basis, and he'll serve as the backup to Carter Hutton on Tuesday. After stumbling in his five starts to begin December, Marek Mazanec appears to have returned the No. 1 job in goal to Hutton until further notice.

Bench Time Looming For Preds' Mazanec

News: Coach Barry Trotz was critical of Marek Mazanec's recent play at Monday's practice, the Tennessean reports. "Right now, unfortunately, we're not getting the goaltending that we need," Trotz said.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec is 0-4-1 in his last five starts with a 3.62 GAA and .858 save percentage over that stretch, so it's no wonder Trotz is less than pleased. Backup Carter Hutton, who hasn't started a game since Nov. 10, may get his chance again Tuesday against the Rangers. At this point, feel free to stick Mazanec on your fantasy bench in favor of a more reliable option.

Preds Give Goal To Mazanec On Saturday

News: Marek Mazanec will make the start in the net Saturday against the Capitals, Sky Kerstein of 106.7 The Fan reports.
Analysis: After receiving NHL November Rookie of the Month honors, Marek Mazanec has gotten off to a rough start to December, yielding seven goals in two starts. In a show of faith, coach Barry Trotz will stick with his young netminder, who should only be aided by the return of Shea Weber (eye) from injury.

Preds Yank Mazanec Thursday

News: Marek Mazanec allowed four goals on 13 shots before being pulled at the second intermission Thursday against the 'Canes.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec's been a wunderkind for the Hurricanes, but things have bit the skids lately, largely thanks to a lack of offensive support. He's taken four straight losses, and Nashville's scored only five goals in that span.

Preds Stick With Mazanec On Thursday

News: Marek Mazanec will be back in the net Thursday against the Hurricanes, Kristopher Martel of The Predatorial reports.
Analysis: The new-minted NHL Rookie of the Month will bring a 5-5-1 record and 2.09 GAA into Thursday's game. He's done yeoman's work to keep the Predators afloat while top goalie Pekka Rinne remains out with a hip injury.

Preds' Mazanec Allows Three In Loss

News: Marek Mazanec allowed three goals on 33 shots and took the loss Tuesday, but was still named the game's third star.
Analysis: The NHL's November Rookie of the Month has made 11 straight starts for the Preds, and he's looked good even in most of his losses. It's telling that the Czech netminder made enough quality saves in this game to get himself named the third star, albeit by home-team voters.

Predators' Mazanec Starting Tuesday

News: Marek Mazanec will take the start in goal Tuesday against the Canucks, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Marek Mazanec had an overtime loss in his last start against the Flyers, stopping 22 of 24 shots. He has been a solid stopgap for the Predators in goal, but faces a difficult start Tuesday against the Canucks.
