Blue Jackets Pick Up Broadhurst In Saad Trade

News: Alex Broadhurst was acquired Tuesday by the Blue Jackets in the deal that also sent forward Brandon Saad and defenseman Michael Paliotta to Columbus. In return, the Blackhawks will receive forwards Artem Anisimov, Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin, and Corey Tropp, along with a 2016 fourth-round draft choice.
Analysis: Saad is the headliner of the deal, but the additions of Alex Broadhurst and Paliotta should help bolster the depth of the Blue Jackets' prospect pool. The 22-year-old Broadhurst tallied six goals and 14 points in 29 games for AHL Rockford last season, and will presumably open the 2015-16 campaign at the Jackets' minor-league affiliate in Columbus. The 5-foot-10 winger is probably still a year or two away from potentially making an impact with the parent club.

Analysis: Alex Broadhurst saw his first minutes since November 26 on March 23 logging 12 minutes of ice time. He scored his first goal since April 13, 2014 on Friday night and then added another goal on Saturday. Broadhurst is still only 21 and is in his second professional season - both with Rockford - and is one of the Blackhawks' top prospects. He only had two assists in 15 games for the IceHogs before he was injured. In 75 games last season, he was third on the IceHogs with 45 points, which included 16 goals and 29 assists.

Hawks' Broadhurst Out 4 Months With Arm Fracture

News: Alex Broadhurst, who was skating for Rockford of the AHL, will miss the next four months after having surgery on Friday to repair a fracture in his upper arm, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Alex Broadhurst is still only 21 and is in his second professional season - both with Rockford - and is one of the Blackhawks' top prospects. The Chicago-area native has two assists and is a plus-2 in 15 games for the IceHogs this season. In 75 games last season, he was third on the IceHogs with 45 points, which included 16 goals and 29 assists. Broadhurst suffered the fracture when he took an illegal hit from the Iowa Wild's Curt Gogol during the third period of a Rockford victory Wednesday. The hit led to an altercation which resulted in 57 penalty minutes handed out between the two teams.
